Pan American World Airways introduced the 747 to the world. No livery looks as iconic as Pan Am's does on such a majestic airliner as the Boeing 747. Wish Pan Am was still around today to see it's classic logo on the new Boeing 747-8 intercontinental. Thank you for posting this fine collection of flying clippers.
I flew LHR to JFK in early April 1970 on a Pan Am 747 aged seven. Maybe you served me my first prawn cocktail which was delicious and gave me those square Pan Am childrens story books. I remember one was about Brer Rabbit. We continued on down to Nassau Bahamas on a Pan Am 707 for a holiday with friends. What a childhood I had thanks to Dad working for airlines.....Cunard Eagle...BOAC.....Bahamas airways......BUA......British Caledonian......Orion.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I only flew Pan Am once (1981) when they were still in their hayday. My trip was LAX-LHR-Hamburg-West Berlin /Tegel. Return: Berlin-Hamburg-LHR-JFK-LAX. Loved the attention from the crew. "Welcome Aboard Pan Am Clipper" was the greeting!
3:44"Clipper Empress of Skies" I really like this name,747 is indeed the queen of skies! Pan Am ,TWA ,BOAC and Swissair are few names in aviation which are hard to forget.I wish if Pan Am were still here, then we would see a Pan Am 747-8! and a Pan Am B 777.
I am actually kind of glad PanAm and TWA are both gone. I could not imagine them today with the terrible service on airlines. I want to remember PanAm like when I was a kid and young adult, how the Stews always treated me like a human. TWA too! I've done the JFK/MAD flight so many times I almost know how many clouds are in between..LOL...When I travel today, I travel with my PanAm bag proudly! And those of us older folks still give a smile at the airport when they see my bag. The good old days...LOL...Never thought I would ever be one to say that :)
Theres no way the legacy airlines could survive. Deregulation really hurt the legacy airliners, especially TWA and Pan Am since they couldn't adapt to the change. I could imagine them having maintenance nightmares and even cutting back on maintaining there aging fleets of planes which would lead to more accidents.
Even if they survived, Pan Am would have been hammered greatly by 9/11, and coronavirus would most likely have sealed the coffin if it lasted up until now
If they where still a thing , at least today’s big airlines will have to give a better service because there’s more options from passengers to choose from
🇪🇸Beautiful video. And best song to go with. Love the PanAm Clipper names. Romantic, Poetic, and reminiscent of a beautiful planet. 🇺🇲Bello video. E inmejorable canción para acompañarlo. Me encantan los nombres de los Clippers de la PanAm. Románticos, Poéticos, y con reminiscencias de un bello planeta.
blap200 same here. I had an aunt that used to live in Hendon. Hendon is right by LHR. As a kid, I used to love standing in her garden just waiting to see if I saw one of them coming into land. Why I did, I just in awe.
N739PA "Clipper Maid of the Seas" ("Clipper Morning Light") - намеренно пропустил или забыл? Но этот самолёт был! Его нельзя забывать! Ради людей, которые на нём погибли.
thank u i can remember my 1st time i saw a PAN Am 747 in 1970 i was helping my dad work on a snackbar at a drivein the city i lived in the aiport departure was over the drivein whin we gaught there a united B-727,a TWA 707 was in the training cerkit it was on a lunch brake win all of a sudden my dad and i herd a differant sound i no what a 707 ,727 sounds like but this was differant there it was a PanAm 747 IT WAS HUGE it made a left turn and made 7 T and Gs it was pilot training thanks
I don’t think this song came to the US. I have never heard of the song until recently. Apparently it was a big hit in Europe and Asia. It’s a great song! The Pan Am jumbos are great too, specially I love the livery of the last phase.
God, how I miss Pan Am. And TWA. Yesterday (today is 10apr17) that poor man was dragged off a UA flight. Can you imagine that back then?? What a disgrace air travel has become.
At the end you wrote that Clipper Beacon Light was the last scheduled 747 from Rio to Miami, however that 747 and flight number continued from Miami to Los Angeles (with Miami crew) and THAT was the last and final scheduled 747 flight. I know because I was working that flight! Great video though even though Clipper Maid of the Seas was omitted.
increible ya son 30 años, fue para los venezolanos la segunta linea aeria que usabamos despues de VIASA la mejor linea aeria del mundo. que recuerdos trae el volar con PAN AM....

@MPCapricorn thanks for you comment and information Chears from Argentina!! about your question: looks like a third engina but obviously it is not a third engine Your observation is excellent
By 1986 to 90s ,747-300/400 came into production for most airlines to purchase. Pan Am must have brought 2nd ones from other airlines ( all of them were 747-200 series) in the late eighties and up to 1991.
I noticed you included the some of the 747 SPs in this. I flew Clipper Mayflower many times as a kid from New York to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in the early 80's.
I miss Pan Am! Does anyone know the name of the 747 clipper that would fly from LAX to GUA in the late 70's early 80's. Best flying experience as a child! No airline can match Pan American!
A railroad company brought the pan am logo and name and attempted to bring back pan am as a small commuter airliner. The Guilford Rail Systems is now know is a Pan Am rail systems complete with the pan am logo on the locomotives.
maxspears chong Yes, but that was because Victor ended up being the first 747 to fly a commercial flight with Pan Am - so that couldn't really be avoided.
That is not true Pan Am had very good safety record take into account that it was the most popular airline in the world and also it had one of the largest fleet of aircraft with that being said it flew to more cities and destinations than any other airline their pilots were arguably the best trained so yes they were a few accidents along the way which were in all likelihood mechanical than pilot error
Nice video! But, I believe you missed N737PA ‘Clipper Ocean Herald’ and N739PA ‘Clipper Maid of the Seas’. You probably missed others as well, but never mind.
I've asked the uploader of the original photo. It is indeed a spare engine, carried by "Clipper Live Yankee" to Kai Tak for another Pan Am 747 that was awaiting service... Very interesting to hear that story frome someone who has actually been there... :-D It was in 1973.
MrCrusher24 They didn't get N739PA plane even when it was Clipper Morning Light and when It was Clipper Maid Of the Seas, I find it sad to even look at a picture of the old bird. R.I.P PAA103
@elmauriplatense yo guardo muchos recuerdos de esta compañía que fue toda una hgistoria en nuestros países verdad? la primera vez que me enamoré de los aviones fue viendo los 707 de panam buen video amigo saludos desde mi pequeño país
I am a bit confused. It looks like the underside colors differs from each other. Just makin a model of Juan T Trippe and i would appreciate some experts advise on how to paint this beauty ;)
I wonder how many aircraft flown by Pan Am wore the name "Clipper America" besides the 747 mentioned in the clip. I know that a Lockheed Constellation wore the name (it flew the first scheduled passenger flight around the world) and there was also a 707 that wore the name (to the best of my knowledge it was the first jet aircraft delivered to the airline).
You're missing Clipper Derby and Clipper Midnight Sun. I flew the Midnight Sun on my first trip as a PAA steward, 1973, Miami - Panama City - Los Angeles - San Francisco and back.
Dude, thanks for the video, but it goes too fast! Please slow it down somewhat so we can actually savor the different planes...By the time my eyes really set on it to study the differences from the others, it changes...yes, I know what the pause button is...just saying! Thanks!

This video, this music, all is nostalgic. I love you 747❤
I was a Pan Am stewardess from 1970 to 71…wonderful airline…dream job…thank you for this video 🇺🇸🌹👍
You certainly were there in the glory days. Congratulations!
Awesome and pretty full on job, did you ever fly to Australia ?? 747 was King!

thanks for the memories! I flew twice on Pan Am 747 back in 1973..Clippers Midnight Sun and Derby Hat,from JFK-San Juan..love the presentation
I am so glad I had the opportunity to work for Pan Am and fly every experience was just awsome

I’d like to see the A380 in the Pan Am livery!
@@jeremiahwallNL1011PA It is unlikely that I bought mainly Boeing airliners

No that's TWA=American Airlines
Pan Am=Delta

I think the music is perfect too for your video.
Yes! It clearly represents Pan Am’s global odyssey

I miss these planes so much. I remember whenever I saw a Pan Am jet I would be in wonder.

I flew on clipper maid of the seas in March 1st 1977. A beautiful flight from Frankfurt main to JFK.
The 70's. Great memories!!! Love this song. Love this aircraft and this airline.
thank You Pan Am for the safe trips and memories----may your logo and trade name take to the skies again one day.
i think you took the PERFECT song for this vid. great choice! :)
Good Memories. Thanks.

1:30 Accident Tenerife
That accident was caused by a KLM
Catchy Song !
Outstanding video, perfect song choice and some great images. was a real joy to watch.
1:36 Pan Am Clipper Friendship Force is my favorite Airliner
Was Clipper Bostonian before and after she was temporarily named Friendship Force, I believe there was a special reason. Was N731PA.
Fun Fact: clipper victor (the first 747 delivered) was involved in the Tenerife runway disaster!
Unfortunately 😢 we lost the first ever production 747 made…
Very cool!

No mention of 'Clipper Maid of the Seas' - was that deliberate?
Yes because :
Search on Google :
"N739PA"
Yes, I know about Lockerbie, I was just asking whether Maid was purposefully not featured because of that.
In fact they mentioned Clipper victor, a plane that was involved in the deadliest plane crash in history
maxspears chong
Yes, but that was because Victor ended up being the first 747 to fly a commercial flight with Pan Am - so that couldn't really be avoided.
hell the first 747 to be put in commercial service

Those clipper names sure are original and creative.
