My husband is a "collector" as well. As I'm watching this in bed, he comes in from the living room to see what I'm watching because he heard a power tool go off and thought I was watching This Old House without him 😂.

The timing of this video is perfect! I find my lack of power tool use is holding me back from more ambitious projects so thank you for the nudge:)

Thank you for this, I am so nervous to use power tools and this has been so helpful. Also, it is great to have found a Canadian DIYer UA-cam channel.

A nailer is definitely on my wish list, Christina! My brother is about to help me build a garden shed / summer house from scratch, so I can do a few projects! Never too old to start - I’m 64!! Can’t wait! A jig saw is also quite useful, I find. Thank you both for the information. Kind regards.from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕

For the mitre saw, I would add to spend a little extra and get one that tilts in both directions. Mine only tilts in one direction, and I’m sure that there is a way to feed the board through to get the opposing mitre, but I’m also equally sure that in my lifetime I’m not going to figure that out.

Awesome! Thank you both for sharing. My husband does all my cutting but being a CDL driver he isn't always home. It is definitely time for me to learn how to use them myself.

I haven't done much DIY that needs power tools in recent years after getting serious health issues, but I did use them a lot back in the day. 😊 If a mitre saw is a bit pricey an ordinary jig saw can be a reasonable substitute, because it's not much more expensive than a drill. I agree with other posters in getting a sander too, very handy in creating or fixing up stuff. We also have a circular saw that works on larger pieces of wood, if you're building fences or decks, but the mitre saw is definitely most useful for creators. In uni doing art we had to make our own stretchers and frames and I loved that mitre saw. 😊 My sons have both been collecting tools and building their own stashes for a few years so we are borrowers now. Power tools have improved a lot since we bought our first ones a very long time ago, much easier to use and with more convenient features. Rather like calculators. 😁 Thanks for the ideas. 👍

thank you for this. I've been searching what to buy as a beginner woman. I finally figured out to get a finishing nailer, not a brad. I need to build a chicken run. I have an electric drill, but need to move on to the big girl stuff. :)

I love my tools and am starting to learn the miter saw. Just got the Ryobi hand sander and I love it. I have a hand nailer/stapler as our Ryobi one is so big and not handy for small projects and I have hand held miter scissors which I love again for small projects.

I just bought a bunch of Ryobi because of the ryobi days sale at home depot. I have some Dewalt & porter cable too. I stopped buying porter cable though because the stopped updating and adding to their tool line a few years ago. I feel like they are gonna close up soon even though they have been around for over 100years.

in Greece the houses have not much wood. so a nailer isn't so necessary. I would replace it with a sander. 😃😃

I don't know if you'd consider it a power tool, but as a furniture artist, I can say I'd be completely lost without my dremel. I have a bunch of different attachments to it, and use it at least once a day. Cheers😊
