    Excellent! I am not a professional, but I've tackled 5 kitchens and countless pieces of furniture with paint. White paint usually only yellows if you don't prime it or clear seal it with polyurethane. A better clear coat to seal is Polyacrylic which is a long-lasting crystal clear coat. I use it after painting for two reasons: the cabinets become easier to wipe clean and it prevents chipping around knobs much longer.

    Great video. The only thing I would add is if you're using the previous holes on the hinge side, add a tiny piece of toothpick into each hole so that it gives your screw a new bite to grab onto. I learned this lesson the hard way. I rescrew the old screws into the previous holes without the toothpick trick. My son left the cabinet door open and the weight of the door pull the screws off the cabinet because once I reattached the old screws without giving it extra bite, (toothpick) there wasn't enough strength to hold the door to the cabinet. That little toothpick trick works for just about anything that you want to rescrew into on a wood project. I hope that makes sense.

    We painted our last cabinets. We used Rustoleum cabinet transformations. It's a great product that comes with everything you need to paint cabinets. We were at our house 3 years, and didn't have any chips. The house has been rented out for 4 years since that, and is still in great shape.

    I painted my kitchen cabinets in 2014 and their STILL perfect! No kidding....it's the prep work and curing time. If you follow all of the directions, without cutting corners.....you'll have beautiful results! 👍🏻

    I was getting ready to use the same paint you mentioned in the video on my cabinets. However, I saw another video with a guy demonstrating that this paint scratches off when oil gets on it. (We have oil on our fingers, and kitchens get a lot of oils on the cabinets and walls when cooking). Then he performed the same test on the Behr scuff resistant paint, and it did not scratch off. I saw another video demonstrating the same thing with the scuff resistant paint. So, I'm going to go with the scuff resistant. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't scratch off. Because who wants to go through all of this prep work, time, money, and effort, just to end up having to redo it in a couple years? I sure don't.

      Interesting! This is the third summer we've had our cabinets painted with the Behr Cabinet & Trim and there are no scratches.

    I just finished painting my porch railing and window frame with a white oil based outdoor paint, and the concrete floor as well, last month. I always prep with tsp cleaner, sanding, and primer. Love your tips. I did my kitchen in the same way about 17 years ago. It's chipping in places now (wish I had a battery operated sander back then) and I should repaint again but I won't. I need to replace my counter top and some of my cabinets I've repaired myself over the years, but I kind of want to replace them next.

    Very good advice. The only detail not in the audio that is critical to success is labeling every piece you remove so that you know where it goes back to - also, marking the hinges and screws as to which door they go to. You show it in the video, but because this is a podcast...Thank you for your work and suggestions.

      I’d consider staining them to preserve the wood look of the grain but also I’ve stained thing before so it doesn’t seem nearly as scary as painting. 😂

    Timely for me as well. I’ve been debating hiring someone to paint my cabinets or to tackle them myself. After watching your video you have motivated me to give this a try. But not till the Spring when I can paint the doors in the garage. I painted all of our trim wood recently after my husband painted our main floor, but as he will attest I am not the neatest of painters., (no matter how hard I try. ☹️)Thank you so much for the inspiration.

    The best tip I have seen regarding numbering your doors was to write the number where the hinge attaches, it won't show when reattached.

    No I am not a professional at all but I saw people using a paint spray wonder if the result would have a better result??.. like without any brush strikes … even if I know there are technics to hide the strikes of the brush ..what do you think?

    • @thediymommy
      @thediymommy  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, my preference is a paint sprayer and I go into detail on it in my podcast today. Foam roller is my next favorite tool.

    • @thediymommy
      @thediymommy  2 роки тому +1

      We've done interiors before, and I've painted them the same way as the rest of the cabinetry. Allowing the proper amount of drying time and adding shelf liner seems to help the durability.

    • @choosehappygratitude8802
      @choosehappygratitude8802 2 роки тому

      Yes - what a difference! Absolutely recommend painting inside. We didn’t sand, just primed / painted 1 coat. *cure as long as possible* For liner we used vinyl contact paper but didn’t peel off the backing.

      There are some great tips in the other comments. At my first house I painted inside the cabinets and it was an older place so it had really deep spaces. If yours are similar, since it’s also an older house, a long handled roller might be helpful so you don’t have to lean into the cabinet so much. Good luck.
