R.O.T.O.R. Was one of those movies I’d beg my dad to rent because the cover looked cool, and my dad would be like “just keep walking, son. Just keep walking.”
V.M.A. D.L.E. Accordingly with Wikipedia there’s no 80’s movie named Turbocop . The actual name was The Wraith. Apparently they renamed Turbocop at the rental place. I lived a lie !
I'm surprised you guys never mentioned all the weird instances of Beach Boys song titles shoehorned into the dialogue. And they really stand out, too. Especially in the scene where Coldyron is showing ROTOR to that committee. Every response they give him has a Beach Boys line in it.
Kieran's love for this movie reminds me of my love for the 90s low, LOOOOOW budget live-action version of Fist of the North Star with Roddie Freakin' McDowell as some sort of spiritual guide/teacher...thing. So bad...so, so bad...but I absolutely love it. You guys need to review it lol
Honestly love Rental Reviews. I think Turbo Kid would be an awesome review. If you guys haven't watched, I think it deserves at least one watch. It's has that cheesy 90s action, gore, cyborgs, and BMX bike chases. You either love it or hate it.
It is funny how we all seem to have that one "bad movie" that just becomes part of our lives through some strange happenstance. With Kieran, it's R.O.T.O.R. at Christmas and for me, it's Attack Of The Crab Monsters in the summer.
James I don't know if you read your comments but I just wanted to let you know that you have helped me get through many days that I've felt down and out. You just have this way of putting a smile on my face and making my day that much better.
I saw a triple feature with Robocop, The Terminator and R.O.T.O.R in Egyptian Movie theatre a few years back. And the presenter admits he only wanted to show R.O.T.O.R but knew people most likely won’t see it so he added the other two. And had a interview with the main actor and the Producer, I don’t remember everything he said but he did say the director was hard to work with and wanted to shoot it in artistic way like Stanley Kubrick which it explains the long shots.
21:58 While on the topic of guns magically changing in different scenes, There's a part during the final battle where R.O.T.O.R. has Dr. Steele at gunpoint with a Desert Eagle, Then Coldryon shoots him in the back, And then all of sudden R.O.T.O.R. is holding a Colt Python instead of the Desert Eagle.
The only difference between a hero and a villian is the amount of compensation they take for their services. At our pay scale, I'd say we're closer to heroes.
Please review A.P.E.X. from 1994. Low budget terminator ripoff with robots that look like Chinese toys you would buy in a late 80’s discount store. Loving your vids, by the way.
"HEROES AND VILLAINS???" The writer must have been a Beach Boys fan. That's a Beach Boys reference. I know for sure it is because there were like TWO OTHER ONES in that same scene.
I remember seeing "R.O.T.O.R" on the shelf back then. My Spidey senses told me to ignore it and keep looking and I'm glad Hey guys review "Hardware" 1990 or one of my favorite underrated sci fi's "Screamers" 1995 starring Peter Weller. Not 80's movies but still antiquated. Or perhaps "Slipstream" 1989 (The other Mark Hamill movie).
I vaguely remember seeing ROTOR at the video store way way back in 1988. I thought it was similar to Mad Max. It's funny to recall movies from way way back, which I couldn't see because I was a kid, and hearing about them today or watching them. Because they were mysterious much due to the VHS cover art work.
The scene where they are having a conference about the rotor prototype - the reason that dialog is so strange is because everyone involved in that scene is literally making tongue in cheek references to Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, the members names, and songf titles ie "Heroes AND Villians?"...It's actually unexpectedly clever and a real moment where you could think to yourself; "Hey, maybe the filmmakers/writers KNEW this movie is a joke, and just turned it up to 11?"
Great Video. This rental reviews keeps getting better an better. Sometime the audio gets to chaotic with everybody talking at once. This reminds me of Best OF the Worse by Red Letter MEdia and what they do that I think is really cleaver is that they use separate audio tracks and they mix in edit the audio from only one person so that they seem liek they are not talking on top of each other.
The Blood Eagle was a Viking form of torture/execution that involved cutting the back open, separating the ribcage from the spine, and pulling the lungs out of the opening in the back. ...I watch a lot of top 10 lists on Vikings.

I watched this right after watching the review and it was a damn mess LMAO XD Even though you guys pointed out a whole bunch of shit there was SO MUCH MORE. My favorite part is where Sonya drives off after Coldyron fights off ROTOR and he calls her on the radio and says she needs to keep him busy until 4 PM...but it's like 2AM!!! H wants her to drive for 15 HOURS XD WTF LMAO
The "I reckon you got a bargain" ADR scene is actually (I'm pretty sure) the two characters making a Road Warrior reference. Afterwards the lady says, "We're partners!" So . . . they're doing a poor and out of place Max and the Gyrocaptain reference. Yeah.....
Are the robot cop's handcuffs called R.O.T.O.R. cuffs? If he was patrolling a waterway does he get a R.O.T.O.R. boat? Does his desk at the police station have a R.O.T.O.R.ry phone?
discovered this movie a few years ago; immediately it was my most favorite thing of all time! it's the definition of rolling on the floor laughing my ass off! 10/10; best movie ever, period!
Fun facts about R.O.T.O.R. : Screenwriter Budd Lewis disowned the film after its release, blaming director Cullen Blaine and lead star Richard Gesswein for rewriting his original screenplay, Blue Steel, eliminating most of the humor and inserting several extraneous scenes in order to replace parts of Lewis' screenplay that were deemed too expensive to film. He had a cameo in the movie as the scientist who told Coldyron that he had a phone call! Also Michael Hunter who portrayed Buglar (politician who wants R.O.T.O.R. in 60 days) is also in RoboCop as the homeowner being interviewed that police aren't suppose to strike!!! Both RoboCop and R.O.T.O.R. were filmed in Texas too!
