With the AVGN Superman 64 episode being revisited we decided to cover another awful Superman property... Superman IV: The Quest for Peace! Which is probably the worst Superman movie, though Superman III and the new DCU films have their terrible moments. Let's see what James, Justin, and Tony have to say.

When I was a kid my parents gave me the choice to see this or Robocop at the theater. I was 8 and chose Robocop. To this day I still believe I chose correctly.

You did! Superman IV was and still is a truly dreadful movie. Superman Returns is the REAL sequel to the third movie, IMO.

Also Man of Steel, best live action Superman movie? The same movie where Superman doesn't even try to lure Zod to an open field with no civilians but instead fights in the middle of the city, destroying buildings left and right, most likely killing millions? The same Superman that has the personality of a rock? Yeah, no.
@Fred Casden's Basement it does feels like an actual Superman story and it yet it's less watchable than Man of Steel or Superman 3 and 4.
@jason lewis to this day, Superman 3 is still the only Superman movie that I haven't seen in full. My uncle loved Superman 4 for some fking reason. Is #3 worth revisiting?
At least none of these movies had the brass balls of steel to put Loud Nigra in a show set on Krypton.
My mom took me to the theater to see this in a double-feature with Jaws - The Revenge. Incredibly, I survived the ordeal and am here to type this to you in 2019.

I went to see this in the theater with some friends when it came out in 87. I remember leaving the theater feeling so sorry for Christopher Reeve that he was ever involved in this. It was a disaster.

There is some spots in craters at the south pole of the moon that the walls of the crater as so high they haven't had light in like a million years, he could have dumped the dude there.

My favorite scene in super man 4 is when they are up in space with no space suits on and everyone is breathing just fine.

Actually no that's not the case Mattel put up the money for masters of the universe when cannon was supposed to. They did however put half of Superman 4 budget towards other projects

Kryptonite are parts of the planet Krypton, radiated to the point of being toxic to Superman. The power crystals are just that, crystals that bestow various powers or abilities as needed.
Fun fact: Wes Craven was supposed to originally direct Quest for Peace, guess that means we would have gotten Robert Englund as Nuclear Man!

Electric Boogaloo was a great documentary. I grew up watching almost all their movies, and the documentary definitely explains a lot of what was going on behind the scenes. Including what was very sketchy finance handling.

The "dark side of the moon" isn't literally dark; it's called that because we can't see it from Earth because the moon is tidally-locked to the Earth, so the same side of it is always facing us. As the Earth and moon rotate, all sides get exposed to sunlight.

Superman III is honestly a worse movie than Superman IV. Like yeah, the fourth one is still bad, but it's so bad that it's good. Superman III, on the other hand, was dreadful to watch. The only funny moment from it is the scene in the Olympic Games, other than that it's just Richard Pryor being unfunny and shoehorned deep down into your throat.
The Moon rotates but is tidally lock with earth. The "Dark Side" is facing away from the Earth all the time but the Sun does shine on that side.

Superman IV: The Quest For a Budget
The Clark Kent thing makes sense if you assume that people in the DC universe don't even know Superman has a secret identity. It would be like finding out that Brad Pitt is also secretly an insurance agent in Wichita named Bob Johnson.
Except everyone would think "huh, you look a _lot_ like Brad Pitt, wait, you actually have literally the exact same face. I'm pretty sure you're Brad Pitt". I mean, if Brad Pitt went to Wichita wearing glasses and referring to himself as "Bob", I think he'd still get recognized pretty quickly.
It's not just Supergirl, all Superman media loves to bring back actors from former superman projects in new roles, a lot of the time as the parents of the current versions of the characters.

Totally agree regarding 'Man Of Steel'. Strangely NOT a Superman movie. Tried to watch it twice. Just cannot make it to the end.
Jon Cryer told a story once about how on the set of Superman IV, Reeve took him to one side and warned him that the movie was going to be a piece of shit.
Like, the one good thing about it was Reeve's idea, where he suggests that he'd be willing to help them get rid of their nukes. Everything else was shitcanned and harved in quality.
Like, to be chained to a movie like that was embarrassing regardless of whether you were contractually obligated to or not.
Cryer was just a young fella, and thought he had landed the big time with a Supes movie.
