I've just done 87 press ups prior to reading your comment lol, I started out only being able to do 3/4 at best. The biggest trick that I've learnt is to have patience and to do them religiously without a break in your routine. Do them every day, or every 2 days if you'd like. Make it a habit, to the point where you're waking up and the first thing on your mind is a coffee, breakfast and press ups. I give it a week, maybe 2 before you're doing many, many more than you could prior. - again routine, keep it going..
@GGR Makes could do reverse ones, start from the up position and lower yourself to the floor, keep doing that Also planks do some of those. I know it's frustrating particularly when you can't do one and you're wanting to. It's a massive satisfaction though when you get to that point. Another good technique is to do them on your knees instead, that'll help. Push yourself up on your knees and lower yourself on your toes maybe.
My goal is to finally be able to do a push-up since I've never been really fit and I want to do one of those military races lol and I have to start somewhere, so thanks for the video!

@@Lea-tz1bs 3 sets × 10 reps means you have to repeat a particular exercise 10 times without a break, then after a break of may be 30 sec repeat it again for 10 times. So the process of repeating the reps again is called a set. So here you will do 3 sets with 10 repetitions. (Btw no question is a stupid question 😊)

Thanks for posting this! I'm embarrassed to say that I can't do a single chest to floor push-up 😕 I've been feeling pretty discouraged lately in my lack of progress but I'm definitely going to give these exercises a try 🤓
Great advice, thank you for posting this! I have a goal to do my first ever pushup this year and I think these strength building tips will be helpful. It's also comforting to know I'm not the only one who is struggling to do a pushup! It's such a common excercise that I get really discouraged that I can't do even one.
YOU BOTH ARE SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST! 😊 I got the push up routine going and I am not going to let it go. Thanks a million for taking the time to show me the right positioning!
This comment is gonna very long, so dont click "Read more" unless you really want to :p This video is good guide for beginners like me. I'm 18 and my upper body was pathetically weak. And I'm too lazy to go to the gym(and tbh a little shy lol). So I thought I should atleast be able to do the most basic bodyweight exercise, the pushup. But I couldn't even lower my body with proper form, let alone 1 normal pushup. I found a new goal (although a little silly) to do 1 basic pushup without breaking form. So before I began my search for pushup videos for absolute beginners, I tried building some basic strength by doing those slanted pushups against the edge of my bed. I could somehow do 2-3 sets of 2-3 reps. Then over 2 weeks, I increased that to 2sets of 7 reps Now, I decided to finally start some of the routines mentioned in this vid. I began with knee pushups( 2reps, 3sets) and high plank(30 sec, 3 reps). I did this routine in 30-40 minutes everyday, gradually increasing my reps and time. Finally, after 3 weeks I guess, I could do 10 knee pushups(3 sets) and 1 minute high plank(3 sets). Now I felt I should try doing the normal pushup. And I did it. 1 basic pushup with perfect form. I felt kinda proud of this little mediocre "feat". Being very, very lazy due to my lifestyle and quarantine,I was surprised I was able to keep at it for this long lol. So yeah, this video was very helpful to a beginner like me. Edit1: Now, I'm able to do around 5 sets of normal pushups( 8,7,8,7,6 reps) with around 4-5 minutes of rest in between. Thanks again! Edit2: Thought of updating my progress once more (ik I should get a diary :p). I can do 10 pushups of 2-3 sets now but couldn't progress more after this. I knew I had to get my stamina up but exercises for stamina felt long and bothersome. Hence, I got an old backpack and filled it up with total 5kgs of books and some small folded bedsheets to uniformly distribute the weight. While wearing the backpack, I managed 3 sets of 4 reps and got to 3 sets of 7-9 reps. When I tried doing pushups at this point, I could do 15 pushups without much exhaustion! Edit3: Well I was pleasantly surprised! I had to undergo a surgery around 2.5 months ago to remove a screw implant from my healed ankle. The doc barred me from doing any sort of risky exercise, including push-ups, for 6 weeks. This fueled my lethargy further and also led to me developing a fear of losing all the progress I made. I wondered if I should start again, as reaching that level I reached before all over again would be too much work. Fast forward 7 weeks, I thought screw it, and tested out of curiosity if I can still do it. And I did! 10 regular pushups in perfect form(although only 1 set)! I realised that you don't lose your built up strength that easily. Edit 4: Thanks for the positive comments guys! I'm not sure if I should post such long threads here lol. Oh and I have another update. So I began my routine of weighted pushups using a backpack again filled with 5kgs of books and now my routine is 8kg 3 sets of 6-8 reps of pushups, done within 15-18 minutes(including 3 minute rest in b/w), every other day. Well now my knees might be getting weak as I don't have to travel around that much in lockdown. So Im wondering if I should start a weighted squat routine. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Edit 5: Today I realised how much the distance between your arms can affect your pushups. I had been doing pushups with my elbows close to my sides comfortably, but when kept a palms a little farther away, it was a struggle! I could feel the upper part of my chest way more than I did before. Maybe that's why I saw more changes at the back of my arms compared to my chest ever since I started doing pushups.
This was very helpful. I'm doing lots of running and hiit, but somehow I can't get one push up done. So reading your experience really helped. Stay safe! ❤
I used to do push ups in my youth, but now I’m not able to do it at all. Started following your advice today. But some of my muscles were very sore after training with Redcord slings yesterday, so I could only hold the plank for 22-24 seconds. (I’m probably to weak in my muscles also). But 3 x 22-24 seconds, is way better than nothing at all. Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing! I've always kinda shunned body weight exercises as being boring but I think I clearly bailed out because it was harder for me to do a lot of them properly and I didn't know how to build strength, which kept me from feeling motivated. While my gym is closed I'm going to take advantage of this!
I am 21. I couldn't do a single pushup 3 months back. I just couldn't lift up my body. Even though it was a failure, I tried that for around a week ( each time I tried to lift a bit further). And then suddenly one day I could do a perfect pushup. I then continued with 1 pushup trying to increase it to 3 or 5. And now I am able to do 20 pushups in a row..
Thank you so much! I've always had problems strengthening my upper body! I hope this push-up workout will help me to, finally, do nice push-ups! How many times a week you recommend doing this? and how long you think it will take to get to do a proper push-up?
Great tutorial and tips. Noticed that a lot of beginner push up videos start at assisted pushups which from experience are still impossible if you haven’t built your arm/shoulder strength. Anyway, currently on step 3 and can’t wait to be able to do a full pushup!
TY so much I started going to the gym like 3 months ago. This video will help one of my weaknesses. I’m a 63 y/o female retired veteran. I retired age 47 with 21 years service I only weighed 145 lbs. Use to be able do over 100 crunches. Most I’ve done in good push ups was 88. I got sick with thyroid and over weight over 200 lbs. I was trying to lose on my own with intermittent fasting. I went down to 190 when I started gym June 2023. Today I’m at 170 lbs. When I started couldn’t even get down on floor. Couldn’t do jumping jacks. No planks nor push ups. Now I’m doing a tad bit better. I’m able to do most exercises with correct form. It’s not easy just takes motivation and commitment. I’m in.
I have a couple of questions about these exercises. For a complete beginner, how many times a week should I do this? I understand at the beginning that I'm going to be sore since my body's not used to it, but I really want to start doing this to be able to do a push-up. I don't want to overwork myself at the beginning. My other question is, should I do all of this at once at the beginning? Or should I only do the first 2-3 until I get stronger? Thank you for uploading this video and for your time!
The best push-up variation/training video I've ever seen. Thank you! I can do about 5x3 push-ups at the moment but I struggle after that. I'll add some of your variations into the mix.

Just like to thank for sharing the upper body strength gaining techniques before doing the full pushup. Thank you 🙏🙏
Thanks for posting this. Last Feb I had the flu 2x or flu 1x and Covid 1x, not sure which, then pneumonia. 1 year later, I'm finally not feeling exhausted 24/7 and am getting back into exercise. I added these to my routine today, and looking forward to getting my pushup game back on. Starting over sucks, but at least I'm finally able to try.

Can I just say THANKS for treating us as equals. So many people like to be all "IM BETTER THAN YOU" and "I CAN DO BETTER SO I AM BETTER!" bullshit and that's just not conducive. IMO if someone makes the choice to change, they should be given help, not have someone ego them! After severe depression, several family deaths, my mom getting stage 4 cancer and being in a very abusive relationship - I have decided I want to change, I am a great human, now it's time to love myself enough to BE healthier. I am on a training plan and a meal plan and I feel good, no BIG changes yet but its been a week. Anyway, I am trying to get into things that I USED to be able to do, like a god damn push up HAHA and I am so weak I can't do it. But you guys are giving me 5 other options to "assist" myself until I get stronger, so... Thank You. I will start with the one that works the best for me, work towards getting strength back in my arms and then we gonna do dis unassisted lol ♥
At 64 I went from 0 to 50 in 4 months and I still feel like I'm failing. I just did two 50 pushup sessions with a 5 min rest in between and I want more. Long story short: the more you do the more you feel you can accomplish and so the more you want.

Great advice, thank you for posting this! I have a goal to do my first ever pushup this year and I think these strength building tips will be helpful. It's also comforting to know I'm not the only one who is struggling to do a pushup! It's such a common excercise that I get really discouraged that I can't do even one.
Thanks guys! I have been following the tips and I went from 5 to 25-30 in fifteen days. You guys are awesome. Lots of love 😘.
YOU BOTH ARE SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST! 😊 I got the push up routine going and I am not going to let it go. Thanks a million for taking the time to show me the right positioning!
This comment is gonna very long, so dont click "Read more" unless you really want to :p
This video is good guide for beginners like me.
Then over 2 weeks, I increased that to 2sets of 7 reps
Now, I decided to finally start some of the routines mentioned in this vid.
That's awesome!! Thanks for sharing your story and i hope you are healed well. Take care of yourself
I'm gonna follow wat u did 👍 and get well soon 😊
This was very helpful. I'm doing lots of running and hiit, but somehow I can't get one push up done. So reading your experience really helped. Stay safe! ❤

Didnt want to
I used to do push ups in my youth, but now I’m not able to do it at all.
*I CAN NOT do a push up for the life of me!* I'm definitely going to try this. THANKS! 👍🏽
All the best 👍🏻✌🏻
Dud u succeed?
@@txunamii6382 no, but that's my fault. I should be more consistent with my workouts

Pushups are easy
I’m in.

Excellent stuff, definitely going to add these to my routine! I'm even going to get my 12yr old to try a few of these to help him with his push ups!
Thank you, that has really helped me start! I haven't done push-ups for about 50 years so this is an excellent way to get back into them.
Same question

Do high planks (the one you hold as if you're at the top of a pushup) itll build the muscle in the wrist also if doing pushups make sure to spread your fingers as far apart as possible I heard it helps a lot but I've never done it as I got threw the feeling/pain of it quickly from other exercises
