It "demands" to be seen from all angles, of course! And it is a tour of the whole world through a particular lens. The figures look like they might fall from their rock ledges. It's a wonderful piece. Excellent commentary.

I'm an aspiring art historian, and I love the way you presented this piece! I currently live in America but want to badly to live in Italy among all of the art I've studied. I'm also writing an analysis on this piece and this video has helped me greatly :)

U did a great job of describing it. Nothing else I watched made me want to see it in person but ur description and background information made it more interesting to a non-art person like myself a great job.

Thank you Nikki! :) I'm glad you enjoyed learning about it, it really is worth visiting in person. Let me know if there is any work of art in particular you've always wanted to learn about :)

Excellent, as always, Tatyana!!! Thank you!
The Four Rivers is one of my favourites, too. I love Bernini. When I was young (I'm 75), one was thought to have no artistic taste if you liked Bernini's sculptures (the same with Sargent's paintings, and with Caravaggio's). Unfortunately for me, I loved all three artists. As you know, all art comes in and out of fashion-before too long, Pablo Bigarsehole's work will go out of fashion, and the world will want Lessdigliani.
I quit art school in Canada (it was all finger-painting and its equivalent, with disdain for representational painting) and came to Italy in the late 1960s to apprentice to Pietro Annigoni. Rome is my favourite city in Italy (Copernicus was wrong: the universe revolves around Rome!!), but I have lived and worked in Florence for the past 32 years (I'm the Director of Studies at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence-named after me, flatteringly, but not owned by me). For 25 years before returning to Florence, I was a successful portrait painter in the U.S.
Please keep making your wonderful videos. They are a joy to watch.

Gracias! 😊 I will try my best! And that’s a very good point; the Rio de la Plata River God has been depicted as a black man :)

Very well narrated. I am pleasantly surprised to know that our Holy Ganges is one of the rivers depicted in the fountain but at the same time your comment that *"spiritual ignorance"* of the continent, seems out of place as records show that India has a civilization of spiritual and religious culture older than 12000 years... May be ignorance on the part of writers of history told in certain places

    • @aboutartbytatyana

Thanks for your comment. In the eyes of 17th century Romans, Asia was considered to be ‘spiritually ignorant’ simply because they were not Catholic.

Tatyana is explaining the 17th-century Italian viewpoint. Pay attention, for God's sake!

Ganges representing spiritual ignorance of Asia???? Spiritually ignorant? The birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism...the Vedas and Upanishads and puranas...all signifying spiritual ignorance?
And what? The immaculate conception and spontaneous creation represented spiritual awakening?? Really?? I feel like shooting myself in the head with a bullet of irony !!! 😂😂😂😂

  • @anthonymaloney6838

This is a lie. Why would he call it the 4 rivers when the rivers you mention have nothing to do with each other and are spread on 4 continents? This is a statue of the 4 rivers of Eden, found at the North Pole before the Deluge.

    • @ydodel6707

The point is that they're the biggest rivers on each of the continents that they knew about at the time lol
