Good info, thanks. Note if its all you can do then extracting the fluid with some type of pump (you can find one at most car parts stores) then that is better than nothing. But note that is mixing clean fluid with dirty fluid, so you might have to use 2-4 liters and probably would not be as clean as this method. Again way better than 10 year old mixed fluid sludge. If you can't jack up the wheels, cut 6 pieces of 12"x12" cardboard, stack them up in front of the tires (3 per wheel), drive the vehicle onto the cardboard. That way you may be able to muscle turn the wheels by hand. If You can't turn the wheels then use the extraction method. And you can start the vehicle and turn the wheel a few times. I had someone ask why not start the vehicle using the method in the video, and I think the answer is that the PS pump will quickly push the fluid through the lines and PS cooler and out the hose into the catch bucket/jug, but that is not getting fluid out of the rack. And use spec fluid. I don't care that the auto parts store guy tells you a fascinating tale about is grandpappy using Pepsi and cow pi_s_s as antifreeze in his 1978 Buick. Just use spec fluid. And note for example CHF 11S is basically aviation hydraulic, made to perform under extreme conditions. Last point- for spec fluids and parts check out Blauparts. I have no affiliation, just a satisfied customer.
Thanks mate for the video. Most of the videos on UA-cam are using something to suck up the liquid from the reservoir which is stupid they don't get everything out.
wanted to see the detailed close up steps of clearing the way to get to the fluid well. the camera was off during those steps. ...and those clips and grommets are tricky ...and, was there something in the little enclosed chamber next to the reservoir ? there is in my audi.
It's a shame I don't have a multi-camera setup for sure, but I am a car guy 1st and UA-camr 2nd so I haven't made it a priority. That enclosed chamber contains a small filter and apparently you can remove it (to clean it) which is something I should do certainly. Good luck with the job if/when you do it.
I can't remember, but I recall it not being hard so I suspect the factory clamp had already been removed and replaced with a jubilee clip - the type that you can undo with a screwdriver.
I see that the bracket that normally houses the brake booster vacuum pump is empty. I have the same situation in my 04 B6. Why it's empty? Don't they have brake booster vacuum pump at all? Or is it somewhere else in the engine compartment? Cheers
Hi Ard, thanks for your question. My brake booster is under the scuttle panel to the right of the battery as you look at the engine. I don't know where the vacuum pump is though - could it be run off the auxiliary belt?
@@MostlyHelpful Thank you for the tip. It is indeed in front of brake booster behind the firewall. Some Audis have it on the front. BTW are those G4000 power steering fluid? And how many litres? And did you change the hydraulic filter? Cheers
Hi Ricardo, I bought 2 litres and used 1.5 litres to do the job. I don't know the capacity of the system, but this worked well for me and I still have 0.5 litres left in case there are any leaks.
Sì, per misurare il livello il motore deve essere spento e il coperchio ben chiuso. Quindi riempire fino a quando il livello non mostra "max". Yes, to measure the level the engine needs to be off and the lid on tight. Then fill until the level shows at "max".
@@MostlyHelpful thanks.. job has been done about month ago..thanks to your DIY video.. and tube does looks like it coud be 8 or 10mm by eye..soo i bought both..
Hi! Thank you for all,but I'd like to know the name used fluid VWAudi. Is it G004000M2 (synthetic and green)? Is it good instead G0002000?It is the FAQuestion about change this fluid.I guess only looking Your video.I need replace fluid in my A4B6'2004.Thank you for your response.
Hi and thanks for watching the video. You are right, the fluid I used is G 004 000 M2. G00002000 was the previous version of this fluid so yes, it should be fine to use. Good luck.
Hi Jay, yes it felt like there was slightly more assistance so the steering was a little lighter. Not night and day but it was definitely there. Cheers, James
For about 6 months yes, but after that it came back. I think there is another issue somewhere, probably the reservoir based on other things I've since seen.
You do not need to go to Audi dealer for power steering fluid you can get the same thing at any car shop Audi trusted I've been there never will agian they are the biggest con ever
I don't disagree, although it depends where you live. The simplest way to ensure that you are using the right thing is to get it from Audi and while it may cost a little bit more, in the grand scheme of things the difference is irrelevant. Here in the UK that difference is about £5 saved. Get it wrong though and it can cost plenty.
I’m watching this at 9pm before I go to sleep, plz be the solution to all my problems.
The solution to your problems with your Audi or the solution to not being able to sleep? Hopefully the former!
Gonna tackle my S6, got a bottle of fluid, I need more. great vid pal
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment and good luck with the job. Would love an S6 myself too.
just completed my power steering flush on my 05 allroad with your help. Running smooth 😎
That's great to hear Eddy, thanks for taking the time to comment.
I used this method on my B7 A4 1.9tdi. worked a treat and much easier access than your B6 too.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment and it's great to hear that it worked well for you too.

Thanks Snowdog, that's some very helpful info.
I am going to use Liqui Moly 20038 1127 Central Hydraulic Oil 1 L which complies to VW G004000. Would you recommend this oil?
Very Helpfull,I used this method on my Audi A5 3.0,everything works great, thank you so much for the video! 🤗
Hi Christian, that's great to hear and thanks for letting me know 👍
Helped allot. Thank you. Also beautiful Audi!
Hi Dustin, thanks for watching the video and I'm glad it helped you out.
Thank you so much, worked dreams for my b6 s4 with the same power steering whine!
This is great to hear and thanks for letting me know. Wishing you many more enjoyable miles behind the wheel of your S4!

What size barb was that used to connect to return line??
Hi Stephen thanks for watching my video. The barb is 10mm or 3/8 and if you are in the UK here's the eBay item number 121375775922. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the comment - appreciate it. 👍
That first cover does not need to be unbolted. It is made to slide on and off without unbolting it.
Thanks, I hadn't realised that. I will check it out next time I am under the bonnet/hood.
What did you use to get the clamp off the return hose on the reservior?
I can't remember, but I recall it not being hard so I suspect the factory clamp had already been removed and replaced with a jubilee clip - the type that you can undo with a screwdriver.
This is great!
Thanks Mark, feels loads better.
where did the return like come from
Hi Joshua, if I recall correctly it comes from the return of the rack, but I think there's a cooler in-line so it's from there.

What size is the clear tubing you used?

Is there a modified exhaust?
For this model of car? I've no idea as I've never checked but I imagine you are only a Google search away from being able to find out yourself.

Hi Marek, including getting it up on axle stands it took just over an hour. Thanks for watching my video.

That fluid is brown (red) because somebody's actually use ATF oil to top it up
