    I did this step by step to 4 items (that I wasn’t attached to, thank Goodness). I did not dilute the bleach because she never says to, I didn’t wet the item before bleaching because, again, she never says to. I followed the video step by step and waited 4-5 hours (over my better judgement, because she says to), 1 of my blue shirts turned completely white and was shredding like a paper towel as I took the rubber bands off. The other 3 pieces didn’t look tie-dyed at all, this method just insanely thinned out the material and ruined all 4 pieces. DILUTE your bleach- DON’T “saturate” the clothes.

    Good video. Your visuals make clear what you're doing. I have wondered about doing the bleaching twice, but cut back the time drastically for the first rinse. And or start w/ a diluted bleaching solution. Then do a 2nd bleaching focusing on areas you want to enhance. And also with multiple bleachings, vary the strength ratio of the bleach. I assumed you are using full bleach in your method.
    I really like the crunch gathering method you use. You finished pieces look great. It is the modern update to tie-dyeing. Being in the geezer realm, the traditional spirals and such make me think that a VW Bus would be mandatory to go along w/ the old Hippie style.
    Looking forward to more videos from you.

    You “Bleach Tie Dye” came out really adorable! I’m a little confused though... I was is using the “Clorox Bleach Tie Dying Method” back in the early 1970s. After only a couple of washing every one of the 100% cotton T-Shirts I dyed was falling apart. My Mom then explained that using straight up Bleach and letting it sit for 2 - 3 hours... Was weakening the fibers causing it to disintegrate. Was the Bleach of yesteryear, stronger? My Levi’s were fine and actually much softer.

    • @spira543
      @spira543 4 роки тому +3

      You need to dilute it!! Using pure bleach and saturating the clothes will cause them to fall apart. 1 part water to 1 part bleach should be fine. So like 2 cups of water and 2 cups of bleach is what I heard works best. She definitely should have mentioned this in the video, as it seems many are having the same problem. Sorry to hear about your shirts!

  • @Jess-rr5mh
    @Jess-rr5mh 4 роки тому

    I tried this with an 100% cotton black shirt and your idea of using a squirt bottle for the bleach. The color didn’t really change from 15 minutes to 5.5 hours, it remained a light brick reddish color. I took off the rubber bands after nearly 6 hours only to find that there were any bleach marks! I don’t know if I scrunched/rubber banded my fabric too tightly or what. Since it’s a cheap test shirt (fortunately), I just re-scrunched, literally SOAKED in bleach & threw it into a ziplock bag to sit overnight. I hope there’s a difference in the morning 🤞. Worse comes to worst I’m out $3

    So, what ratio of bleach/water did you use here? Because using 1:1 will typically start shredding clothing after an hour or so... I like the look and it looks diluted, and clearly must be since you left it on for hours without the t-shirt disintegrating

    Great idea in terms of the crumpling method. However, mix your bleach with water (1:1 ratio). And don't leave it for as long as the video says. I would say anywhere under 30 minutes is enough, especially if the fabric you're using is not very thick.

      You’re literally bleaching the color out, it can’t go back to what it was anyway
