An In(out) Law gifted me his mother's deceased boyfriend's 55 LP JR. It arrived in a destroyed original alligator paper carry case. A very hip man of color. It sat in a closet tuned up way too much and for way too long. I immediately took it to a luther. I have a large number of cool old and new guitars, but there is indeed something profoundly special about my LP JR.. Needs no EFX. Has a nasty growl and all my guitar mates are waiting for me to croak, so's they can sweet talk my amazing wife into parting with it, before I even am cold and in the ground. Changed the wraparound tail piece for one that improved the intonation on this beast of a guitar. Traipsing through the back room of a guitar shop in Poughkeepsie NY, I stumbled upon the Exact Original alligator case in perfect condition, which the store owner gladly GAME me. Bagged that up and have the axe in a HSC. Bought a reissue LP JR as I didn't like taking mine to gigs, afraid it might vanish or get busted. That new expensive LP JR was for shite. There's something magical about the mahogany and an aged dog eared P90. Thanks for reading. I am deeply in love with my 55 JR. It was, and is a wonderful gift. May you have such good luck... Leslie West destroyed many lp jr's just by playing them and sweating on them. God Bless Leslie...may he RIP. Peace out and Rock like there's no tomorrow. Keep it real...
A lesson in pure tone for sure. Somebody spend their whole life searching for tat sound when all you need is a '50s Gibson with a single coil into a classic fender amp. Awesome!
Just killer. P90+Tweed=perfection. Doug, your demos are always awesome. Perfect balance between explaining the instruments and then shuttin' up and showing 'em off.
the 55 did sound a little thinner and bit less highs than 57 , that my imagination ? played one thru marshall stack bout 30-40 years ago , to my memory thats what these were best at . more power, more speakers really brought out the tone . can you do a vid with an esquire thru tha old fenderamp ?
Thanks for the great demo, the tones are great on all the guitar and amp combinations. I don't see any mics in the shot, would you mind sharing how was the audio recorded? The tone on the Satellite amp in one of your other vids is amazing as well. Thanks.
55 was the best - amp just wasn't quite as cranked as for the 57. I play my 55 through a 59 Gibson GA8 Gibsonette tweed amp. A 50s Junior and a blackguard is all you need..........................
what pickup goes into the replica you mentioned? thanks! ....I have a 55 LP jr...and a Collings and the Collings is sweet, but just can't capture the mojo and tone of the 55. I have bare Knuckle pups in the Collings.
the red 58 Les Paul Jr, was my very first guitar, i had paid 50 bucks for it . I was 13 yrs old, in 1970. that,s when I first got it. It was stolen from me about 15 yrs later. I had purchased a replica at musician,s friend music warehouse but its not the double cut away like the one I used to own.but it is a nice piece of mahogany1 it plays and looks great, I want to possibly buy one of yours with the double cut away . how much are they

Great video and demo!! And no pedals or add ons , just guitar, cable and amp , as all reviews should be, thanks very much
really glad you liked the video!!!!

Pro tip; Lindy fralin makes vintage style p90's that actually sound just like these real ones !
People underestimate Jrs. They're rock and roll machines. Sustain and tone like no other guitar

A Les Paul Jr. and a 5e3 tweed deluxe. Like a rabid she wolf in heat at midnight next to a liquor store burnin' down. The kine tone.
Very helpful...thanks for doing this one!
The old P-90’s sound soooo goood.
57 and 58 sounded the best!
Nice Work!
Nice job, Dougie! You sound great!
(Big Dan)
the tweed deluxe is just awesome!!!
True dat. I had a TV yellow single cut and it was amazing. Best Gibson I ever owned.
Great tone!
All are great. Even the new one. But the `57 is the best for my ears!
I own a 57 and play it through a Fender tweed 59 Vibrolux
Awesome video.....what changed in 57? Was the pickup route moved or the T.P studs to avoid cracking between the stud and route?
Great demo. Good job and I don’t think you could do better in this comparison.
Want one so bad
omg sooooo many jrs!!!! so jelly....
A 50's Junior into a Tweed Deluxe equals KILLER tone!
You guys should do a potion 57 singlcut exclusive too! That 57 is killer!
The 57 sounded the best to my ears.

I bet you all the ladies ask this guy to get random shit down off the top of the fridge.

The 57 is king.
Tom Howland yup.
The 57 rules them all.
Love that dirty 1958!
in 1954 and the first half of 1955 the bodies were made of Maple, not sure where this 1955 Jr falls in that
That new replica is every bit as nice as the old ones, and the oldies sound sensational. A very good demo.
Dude makes it look like a Fisher-Price guitar.
Dude I was thinking the same thing! We need a banana for scale.

how many videos did you tell this story on, I feel like I read your sad story on the last video I just watched and who knows where else.
Yes, 57 followed closely by the 59.
The 57 is the best
I love LP jr
i had a 69 les paul custom(tuxedo black),paid $600,sold it for $1200,now its worth $10,000
How tall are you? 7 foot?
How can I contact Potvin? I can find any tortoise pickguard for my own 58 LP Jr. Copy :(
are you really 7'2" tall? somebody wrote you were over 7' tall, damn! nice demo
He looks damn near close, that guitar looks tiny on this dude.
Sorry for my stupid question, dident see the years, are they connected right into the amp or you have any pedals. Sorry for my english :)
those shrunken head skulls ?
Junior!!!!!
I have a 1957, but needs some work on the electronics.
...I'm very very very jealous!
do you have any tattoos?
Why do you have 2 of each?
Better question: why don't I?
i get my fix with a 56 :o)
Dude crank it up, these arent timid guitars.
ガイコツは何年ものだ
same old usual guitarsってなコメントでいいのかね??
All the same..do your parents know you're out of the basement?

The '57 wins!

I think you missed the concept of the reply button.
I HAVE OLD AND NEWER VOS ONES ETC THE NEW ONES SOUND BETTER THAN THE VINTAGE....VINTAGE ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER.
NOT MUCH DIFFERERNCE IN TONE THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME
I doubt anyone cared on this video, or the one before. Just sayin'
This comment didn't age as well as these 50's les Paul jr. Guitars !?
