If kayaking in the '90's makes one an old school, I guess being someone kayaking in there prime in the 1950's makes one positively antediluvian. Sadly, no matter how good you are, or how hard you struggle to stay stay in fit and in condition, there comes a time when you body revolts and says, "no more!" That's when you become grateful for videos, both old and new. You begin to live vicariously through them, and to root even harder for the folks out there opening new vistas in the world of kayaking.

I worked some 13 years in various hospitals in my area. One thing I learned. Is there are only two kinds of people in this world. Doesn't matter how rich or poor, or where you come from. Your either the person who talks about all the adventures you have had in your life. Or your the person who talks about all the things you wished you had done.

Started kayaking in 1990. Been at it ever since. And I can honestly say. It saved my life in so many ways. I will be forever grateful for every moment on the water.

I started kayaking back in the 1980's when my wife was pregnant with our second child and hung it up in the 1990's after the birth of our fourth child. No regrets and a lot of great memories. Now my youngest child (early 30's) is wanting to take up whitewater kayaking. I'm really excited to be able to share our experiences together!

such a fun video. Im in my 40's but only been paddling for 6 years so it is all new. It always amazes me how bad people were at boofing 20 years ago. I call the it PAR technique, Plug and Recover.

I started wwkayaing when the perception dancer was the one of the only plastic kayak, soon after came the dagger crossfire big change. I was friend with a paddleshop dealer so got the very first Dagger transition (awful design) then the first RPM in western canada. After that Corran Addison showed me kevlar hammer surfboat which I got in crosslined poly soon after. I also got to paddle Spike the designer from Necky kayaks the rip and the Jive prototypes. All the while squirt boating my enigma squirt boat on and off.

Oh man I loved this. I was all over the alps in 1999 to 2003, as well as the Zambezi. Now I am 42 and haven’t been in a boat for about 18-19 years. really want to get back into a boat

I think some the most important piece of gear I carried when I started running rapids in 1978 was duct tape and tennis balls. I would duct tape 1/2 tennis ball to the bow of my fiberglass Lettman Mark IV kayak so the tip wouldn't crack if I hit a rock. One slalom race I dropped into a hole with a rock it and the rock punctured through the bottom of the boat. Ran the rapids the next day with the bottom duct taped.

I was hard into kayaking from about 81 to 97. Best times of my entire life. Seems like as I got older the desire to spend all day driving to/from a river sort of faded away. Now I do lots of mountain biking and hiking but I miss those river trips.

I started kayaking in the early nineties, and I recognise so much of what you show here.
Having recently started taking my kids kayaking, I look forward to seeing what the next generation brings to this sport.

Definition of old school kayaking. Is you how to be a kayaker. Definition of new school kayaking is you have to have a kayak. The kayaks today make it so much easier to do stuff that you had to really work hard to do in the past.

You should do another video and interview old schoolers like Woody Callaway and current stars of whitewater kayaking for a new school versus old school format.

I'll tell you what, this doesn't have much to do with old school vs new school kayaking but if you ever get a chance to play Rochambeau with Woody Callaway, you will laugh your ass off and have the time of your life! LOL Woody is a fierce Rochambeau player!
