That's true ! This issue is the definition of "food" though. We've been tricked into eating non-nutritious slop that actively damages our bodies. That's not food. The worst thing about that though is that we're addicted to it.
When I first started out healing my relationship with food, I would allow myself to "overeat" or binge, just with healthy food. Eating too much of something good for you is better than eating too much fast food was my reasoning. And... It worked! It made me view healthy food as something I COULD enjoy, and I worked from there. Now I eat the right amount of food that's good for me every day and allow myself snacks that previously I would binge on. :) Honestly, you just have to be kind to yourself and let yourself eat what you feel you need, and if you're serious about caring for your health, it'll work out.
Why not both? I think you need be informed about what it is you're eating. At the same time you should also be aware of what that food does to your body and emotions.
@Diah Reea Meat is a pretty healthy food and many species are obligate carnivores and can only eat meat. Meat is very calorically dense. Fat is healthy, needed for absorbing fat soluble vitamins, tasty and something our body requires because we can't produce fatty acids. Fat has twice the calories of other macros. There are also plenty of veggies that are calorically dense, like nuts, avocados, anything with dairy, etc. Healthy vs. unhealthy food is such a bad and vague way to look at food.

Surprise, surprise increased these foods & my bp returned to normal...in a day. Had to balance my sodium potassium ratio!
yes cravings tell you what your body needs but it doesn’t necessarily mean it needs that food you’re craving. like craving mcdonalds (aka fatty food) means your body needs calcium, for chocolate would be magnesium etc. so if i’m craving a non nutritious food, i try to give my body what it’s actually asking for, then if i still have my craving after a while i’ll allow myself to have it. listening and actually understanding my body’s cues has helped me fix my relationship with food so much.
I never understood people who can do this, like wtf how do you know that mcdonalds = calcium? That's just impossible. It's like saying I feel like eating a steak and what you really need is a bicycle. What is the logic? Furthermore, how is this easier than just sticking to your calories and macros? I love food. Having a good connection with food was built from my mom (has a nutrition degree) who taught me that technically no food is bad food. Food becomes unhealthy when you have a big amount constantly that doesn't correctly (nutritionally) sustain you. ❤
I think that this is a healthy mindset for people who aren’t addicted to food. I think in the same sense that alcoholics can’t moderate their drinking and therefore must become entirely avoidant of it, people who are food addicted need to completely restrict least they fall into an unhealthy spiral

Thank you so much, dooby. Everytime I eat something not healthy, I feel so guilty for eating for the fear of gaining weight. Feels good to know that my favorite youtubers also have problems. Much love xoxo
I notices that my body doesn't feel good wehenever I eat something unhealthy 🤔. I also gained the habit of googling what the fruit or vegetable I'm currently eating is good for 😂 like wich vitamins are inside.
I mean...look at her she is ín extremely good shape. She sure as hell minds what she eats to look like that. And there is no need to feel bad about the occassional junk food binge as long as it doesn't become your everyday go to food solution if you ask me :)
I feel like it’s important to learn the difference between a nutritional craving and like an urge to splurge. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint the difference, I’ve just kind of developed a sense of when I’m craving something because my body needs it and when I just want to eat something for a hit of dopamine. Though the latter is also okay on occasion.
preach! these days I eat whatever I crave and pay attention when I eat something that makes me feel really good, and I've never been better emotionally or physically. there truly are no good or bad foods, it's just about making sure your body is getting what it needs at the end of the day. (or week)
This is a great mentality to have about food. As long as you are listening to your body and not your emotions. I have a habit of being an emotional eater and it took me a long time to tell the difference between emotional cravings and physical ones. Honestly I'm still working on it but I've gotten a lot better at listening to my body now and dealing with my emotions in a healthier way as well 😌
Something that really helped me is really thinking through my cravings for what actual nutrient my body wanted. Craving a soda is probably my body actually asking for water and vitamin C. Potato Chips is my body asking for carbs and electrolytes. A big hamburger could be a lot of things, but probably protein, salt, and carbs. Etc
You should still keep in mind what foods are good and what are not, different foods affect your body in different ways and my cravings didn’t start changing until I actively tried to eat better. Convenience food is specifically made to be as palatable as possible and be as addictive as legally possible, so just keep that in mind before you eat whatever whenever.
Once i had a long lasting craving for broccoli. Like i would chop it up and steam it for few minutes. I added it to every dish or eat it the broccoli as a whole meal. So yes i think your body can give you hints by craving special food but you need to have a healthy relation to it.
How do you manage to seamlessly end your videos in a way that when they replay it doesn’t seem like they ended so I just keep watching one big loop 🔁 lol 😂 you’re unbelievably talented ❤
I gain weight when I don’t honor my cravings because I end up eating anything and everything to hopefully fill the void. Honor your cravings yall! Your body may need it💖
I’ve noticed I get really strong cravings when log en has been hectic and I haven’t been eating full meals regularly. It’s a pretty good indicator for me that I have to slow down and put some order in my life. Nothing wrong with indulging.
Not completely true.... the sugar and or, "junk" craving is linked to your body craving dopamine. The body created the craving to attain the boost of the neurotransmitter. There are other avenues to get this, "boost", but your body does need it. It's all about understanding the cravings and utilizing the best method to get your body what it needs.
ED TW: shout out to my ex, whos still a close friend to me. We dated when we were kids but he immediately recognized that I was having difficulty with eating infront of others, etc. Even when we used to call, he always respected that I'd call much later in the night because I always feel uncomftorable eating infront of people. I think he may be the only one in my life thats noticed this and I really appreciate how he respects it :')
Part of what she probably should have mentioned is listening to your body as means listening to when it’s full. Your body tells you it isn’t happy when it’s overstuffed. Also, she did kinda cover listening to your body vs listening to your mind. In the hot Cheetos example haha she craved a comfort after an emotionally turbulent time (a breakup), but it’s not what our body and mind need most of the time (hopefully). The body needs hydration and varied nutrition and will show those, although sometimes it’s delayed or subtle. Plus, she’s right about training our bodies to crave nutritious things. The more you eat yummy fruits and veggies regularly, the more you’ll notice going without them. But, you’re also right. All bodies are different based on genetics and lifestyle and access to food, so listening to your body doesn’t at all mean you’ll be slim. It should just hopefully mean a person’s mind and body will be some vague version of healthy
FACTS!! recovered (every ed) here, this is what they said throughout treatment. wasn't until i got better on my own terms that i can look back and say that this is true. to myself and everyone reading: keep balance. perfection isnt real🖤🖤
I crave ice cream every day so my body must really need it. Most Americans, including myself, are addicted to sugar. Let’s not pretend like anyone needs it when they are craving something sweet
usually when people crave sugar what they're "really" craving is something calorically dense, for example women tend to crave sweets before/during their period because they burn more calories during it. if you suffer from a lot of sugar cravings you might not be eating enough and or might not be getting enough nutrients from your food. all that being said: yes, most people in the west are most likely addicted to sugar.
@@cloudberry0164 women actually don’t burn more calories during their period, and most likely the cravings for sweets come from the need for something of comfort during an emotional/painful time for many
Seeing cravings as your body needing something does NOT apply if you have binge ED, which is the most common ED. Eat proper meals, have filling foods & an occasional treat, but do not give in to cravings
Yea no I’ll continue giving into my cravings that occasionally appear every 2-3 months and instead of this thinking, I’ll give in to eating a reasonable portion of my favorite Indian cuisine comfort food ❤️
@@leila.7754do you not know what Binge eating disorder is? You say 2-3 months thats ok but most people are talking about 5 times a day kind of thing.BED is a serious thing and obviously you don’t have it so I’m confused why you think it related towards you.
I hope you know it is very powerful to me and many others that a popular youtuber like you is spreading this message. It might not seem revolutionary but there are a lot of very wrong and guilt-driven ideas about food, nutrition, and body image in mainstream culture. Many other people in eating disorder recovery also commented, which is nice to see, and I will join the crowd by saying that THIS is really helpful and will probably help me feed myself this week. Thank you.
For those who don't know, this is not a video to teach you how to lose weight. This will either help you maintain your weight if you exercise and gain weight for those who need to. If you want to lose weight, add all the nutritions you need while cutting down on sugar and exercising 3-5 days a week. And no, if your cheat days are every day, it wont work.
Succumbing to yours craving means more cravings and the harder it is for you to be satisfied, some health expert says that it's exactly the same as instant and delayed gratifications, if it becomes a habit it is almost impossible to satisfy your cravings unless you consume more sugar, sodium, etc.
I agree, but sometimes it takes "succumbing" to cravings to understand that a certain food is not that great. For example, for the longest time ice cream was my "off limit unhealthy food" and I would obsesses over when I could finally indulge and when I did, it was just ok tasting. However my cravings still came because I kept restricting. In regards to your idea of delayed gratification, our brain forms habits primarily through dopamine, or things that feel good. You may delay the slice of cake with a salad, but that is highly unsustainable. Sheer willpower will lead to burn out real quick. It is way more effective to find gratification in heathy food rather than thinking "omg I have to eat this trash salad so I can eat chocolate cake". "self control" will only get so far if for you look at every healthy meal as eating sad bland food.

I love how you make the video loop so effortlessly. Also love the messages you spread about food
My body needs a whole block of cheese at 4 am
that first shot of the mushroom moving low-key reminded me of The Last of Us

I love food. Having a good connection with food was built from my mom (has a nutrition degree) who taught me that technically no food is bad food. Food becomes unhealthy when you have a big amount constantly that doesn't correctly (nutritionally) sustain you. ❤
I think that this is a healthy mindset for people who aren’t addicted to food. I think in the same sense that alcoholics can’t moderate their drinking and therefore must become entirely avoidant of it, people who are food addicted need to completely restrict least they fall into an unhealthy spiral
I'm currently recovering from an ED and this type of video is actually what I need 😭

May I have the recipe please? Looks divine.
This looks like a relatively straightforward variation of a mille-feuille nabe recipe.
Napa cabbage
Thinly sliced beef
Enoki Mushrooms
Looks like baby kale is used for the greens, but traditionally its shiso.
Dashi broth
The dipping sauce looks like a mix of peanut butter, soy sauce, sake, and hard to tell the last liquid but probably either rice vinegar or mirin. But honestly do whatever you think would taste good in the dipping sauce, I would add some garlic or chilis :).
@@choilive This sounds yummy, thanks for sharing!

I think the dipping looks more like sesame paste instead of peanut butter? not entirely sure tho

Omg…that’s such a smart way to make this dish. My friends and I were layering the meat and cabbage one at a time.
Dooby we actually NEED more wholesome content like this ❣️❣️it's not eat pray lovey at all , it's so wholesome to actually maintain a healthy relationship with food !
@@Cuteemogirl94 ah thats good for you, im also trying to develop better eating habits
(or week)
I need the full recipe 😩✋
This is a great mentality to have about food. As long as you are listening to your body and not your emotions. I have a habit of being an emotional eater and it took me a long time to tell the difference between emotional cravings and physical ones. Honestly I'm still working on it but I've gotten a lot better at listening to my body now and dealing with my emotions in a healthier way as well 😌
me craving 샤브샤브 and finding this as soon as I open youtube technology's scary
Something that really helped me is really thinking through my cravings for what actual nutrient my body wanted.
Craving a soda is probably my body actually asking for water and vitamin C.
Potato Chips is my body asking for carbs and electrolytes.
A big hamburger could be a lot of things, but probably protein, salt, and carbs. Etc
Yes my body 100% definitely needed those 3 bags of cola haribo at 2am
yes, but the sauer ones!
I stopped eating those, diabetes sucks
You should still keep in mind what foods are good and what are not, different foods affect your body in different ways and my cravings didn’t start changing until I actively tried to eat better. Convenience food is specifically made to be as palatable as possible and be as addictive as legally possible, so just keep that in mind before you eat whatever whenever.
Once i had a long lasting craving for broccoli. Like i would chop it up and steam it for few minutes. I added it to every dish or eat it the broccoli as a whole meal. So yes i think your body can give you hints by craving special food but you need to have a healthy relation to it.
if you only crave snacks and sweets, don't until you heal your body

You are so right!! As someone with an ED, this shift was so vital! Thank you for putting that out there.
Sugar and junk craving is usually emotional eating/addiction, and not physical craving of something your body desires and needs.
How true is this
Not completely true.... the sugar and or, "junk" craving is linked to your body craving dopamine. The body created the craving to attain the boost of the neurotransmitter. There are other avenues to get this, "boost", but your body does need it. It's all about understanding the cravings and utilizing the best method to get your body what it needs.
@@redcandi01 a lot of times the "need" for the boost is an addiction to dopamine and/or sugar
@@psychopeticahermetico9478 yes that is also a possibility
@@redcandi01 Or in simpler case, we're just bored of what we eat everyday and wanting some variations

We dated when we were kids but he immediately recognized that I was having difficulty with eating infront of others, etc. Even when we used to call, he always respected that I'd call much later in the night because I always feel uncomftorable eating infront of people. This is a really good message and this is the attitude I am really trying to have about food. Great video and that meal looks so delicious :3
Girl…how did you know. It’s nearly 1am and I’m in the kitchen searching for snackies
And not to mention taking the time to plate your food beautifully is a form of self care ❤🥰
I’m in a happy relationship and I still fell asleep with half a bagel in my bed the other day lol
I love and appreciate you for that
Bro, if I listen to my body I'd be 200lbs
Also foods correspond to vitamins and minerals? Like if you crave sweets you may need magnesium I think or something
This is a great message for people who do not already have disease
I can't explain to you how beautiful this dish it. I love the message as well. Well done.

That looks like fungus from the last of us 💀
I crave ice cream every day so my body must really need it.
@@cloudberry0164 women actually don’t burn more calories during their period, and most likely the cravings for sweets come from the need for something of comfort during an emotional/painful time for many
This idea applies to so much of life, though it's so hard for me to express. Thanks for expressing it too
the way tubbo is like those people in western standoffs where they play music while the others fight
Seeing cravings as your body needing something does NOT apply if you have binge ED, which is the most common ED. Eat proper meals, have filling foods & an occasional treat, but do not give in to cravings
Yea no
I’ll continue giving into my cravings that occasionally appear every 2-3 months and instead of this thinking, I’ll give in to eating a reasonable portion of my favorite Indian cuisine comfort food ❤️

In regards to your idea of delayed gratification,
our brain forms habits primarily through dopamine, or things that feel good. You may delay the slice of cake with a salad, but that is highly unsustainable. Sheer willpower will lead to burn out real quick.
It is way more effective to find gratification in heathy food rather than thinking "omg I have to eat this trash salad so I can eat chocolate cake". "self control" will only get so far if for you look at every healthy meal as eating sad bland food.
idc what anyone says dooby created this style of ending with the beginning and she does it the BEST ❤ it never sounds corny unlike the 99.999% of other creators who TRY. truly a creator legend.
