I love this damn thing. I have it a little over a month and finished ghosts of tsushima on it. Played a lot of overwatch. Now cyberpunk and helldiver's. Its perfect for fathers like myself.
@@purepsx helldiver's is freaking awesome on the portal .There is no lag or anything like that that I can tell. Performance has been flawless. I haven't even turned on my TV that my PS5 is connected to since I got the portal.

I got my hands on one today. I just only had enough time to go through the update and set up but I’m looking forward to actually using it. I’m a father of a two-year-old and most of my free time is hanging out with him and watching his shows. So it would be nice to actually start using my PS5 again.

@@purepsxIt’s been more a hit than a miss. I don’t think I have the strongest Internet connection but when it works, it works well. I was playing grandblue Ocean relink for 2 hours, and I completely forgot I was streaming the game. It’s very nice and premium looking device but I do have issues with it.
That won't last. I cannot game on anything without my boy quickly wanting to play it himself. He is 5 years old and it has been like this for a few years.
@@techhead78 I have 360, ps3, switch, series x and ps5. My game time gets constantly interrupted no matter what because if he is on the switch then he wants me to help him. Great thing is that he does enjoy 2 player games and we have been playing Mario Wonder quite a bit.

@@hotheadspuggyYes it is the new normal for all new devices not just Sonys, the scalpers buy them all up and sell them for double or triple the price, they did the same for the PS5 and sony doesn’t care because somebody bought them, they don’t care who.
I love my PS Portal...have had one since day 1. Have taken it on vacation, to family member house and haven't had issue. I did some port forwarding and my wired connection is super strong. My only issue is screen glare in the sun.....it feels like a playing facing a mirror. After the patch for the Explore Earbuds...the combo of Portal and Explore earbuds is the closest you can get to playing on a actual PS5....which is the intent i guess. I've actually even done some Helldivers 2 co-op with it in my home and surprisingly enough it wasn't unplayable. All around great supplement to a PS5.

@@purepsx Best PS Portal games right now.... Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Also Baldur's Gate 3. I have been playing Final Fantasy 7 remake in the lead up to Rebirth (its a second playthrough). I played Granblue Fantasy Relink on my Portal to grind some but no co-op. I also played Remnant from the Ashes 2 both co-op and solo. If you play alot in your home co-op can work on the Portal because it is not so much as reaction to other players as it is single player content with a friend.
@@julianf147 My cellphone (S23) works as a mobile hotspot....I connect to my phone and then connect my phone to a wifi source. If you have your PS5 connected with wired internet connection then you get pretty much the same performance as in your home over 5g. I've used my mobile hotspot over mobile data before but you have to have really good cell service to make it work.
Not being cliché bit genuinely this is the most informative and in depth video of long term use of the ps portal. You really went into proper specifics and scenarios and it answered so many questions for me that almost all the other videos didn't. 🙏🏻🙌🏻

I bought a Portal and sold it after 3 hours of total use. The dualsense controller is unbeatable but there was a slight noticeable delay, with rare lag spikes here and there. I sold it and bought a ROG Ally. The experience has been much better for me, no lag due to the play being processed on the device itself.

It looks like it's somewhat easy to replace with just unscrewing things without any soldering. I just bought one and looked into whether I should get a repair/replacement plan. I decided it should be fine without one, and self-repair will be viable if needed.
Massive problem with these that should be discussed. Can't connect to hotel Wi-Fi or any Wi-Fi that requires a webpage to pop up to sign in. Also doesn't seem to like using hotspot very well at all.
I swear if sony would have marketed this as a remote play controller, and less of a streaming console, it'd be more well received in terms of narrative. I also think they should release an update for it to be able to be used as just a standalone controller for the ps5, including wired in. That'd really bring the value of this machine to the max!
I do use it as a second controller. Fire up remote play and then my son joins us with the controller. There is the annoying Remote Play message on screen but I can live with it.
Just received mine couple days ago , was hard to get anywhere , I like it so far my only concern is if the buttons go wrong what do you do ? Replace the whole thing ? My regular controllers lasted me only couple months so I’m little concern bout it since I play a lot of mortal kombat .
I got mine a few days ago now and i absolutely love it. I live in a rural area and its given me no issues whatsoever. Been playing ff7 rebirth in my backyard and not a single issue, decided to take it further back in my yard on destiny 2 strikes and not a single frame drop ive noticed. As a parent that cant be in my game room due to parenting its been amazing for me.

It is perfect to me for all the reasons you had listed. Kids, busy house, wife watching TV. Sony made a bet that people would not play this any place without wifi and that is me. I couldn't be happier. It is beautiful to play on
Honest question. I don’t see why you wouldn’t just buy a monitor? Can’t help but feel this is a gimmick. Being able to play in the bath is cool though. Not being able to watch media is what totally kills it off for me. Ludicrous
@@purepsx I’ve been going back and forth between MK1 and a replay of Red Dead 2. It’s awesome playing those games in any room on a handheld. The device itself feels like the best handheld I’ve ever played with.
I love my tv but there’s times I just want to hop on a game for a few minutes and not boot up my tv so the Portal been nice for that. Plus if you go to setting and turn off the setting that boots your tv when the console turns on then you can play the portal without your tv on which is nice no need to unplug the hdmi
The portal is truly for family people. I love my portal. I knew it would have bugs when it first came out. Anyone that got rid of it off bat is missing out
I got mines Monday and I've been back on my PS5 like it's day one. Between this and my Steam Deck I'm in heaven. And I was so about to give up on my PS5 cause I wanted to play my games portable cause of the steam deck and now I can !!! Boy this device is amazing!!
Honestly that’s my 3rd month with this and i am gonna be honest, i LOVE IT. I use the Ps5 during the day but i pick the Portal many many times cause i simply love to lay on my bed or in the bathroom and play some Cyberpunk or Skyrim. You may be thinking, how can you even play such an High Graphic and Colorful game like Cyberpunk on a Portal? That’s simple, the connection and stability has been so much improved at the point that i cannot even see the difference from my monitor which still, it is a High flagship one from LG. i’ve never seen such a GOOD vibrant and colorful screen on a mobile device and i THINK that it is an HDR IPS panel which looks amazing.
@@purepsx actually i did, i bought a white semi trasparent cover just for the 2 section where the controls are cause i love to see the screen section completely naked, plus a screen protector which i think might be really helpful. I’m playing right now Cyberpunk 2077 :)
Its been working very well. Sometimes, i do get disconnected from PS5 for whatever reason but a quick reconnect fixes that problem. Otherwise, in our busy household with two kids its been a savior for myseelf. I can actually catch up on my library. Very convenient and with proper, steady internet it a great purchase.
When I first got it I had internet connection issues. I went and upgraded my router and bought an extender that works in mesh mode with my router and that really improved my experience no more connection issues plus I have the slowest internet on earth 25mb down 5mb up so I learned it’s not about speed it’s about overall coverage.
I got mines on December 23rd I've had no issues with it I did drop the resolution to 1080p and I have mines directly connected to the ethernet cable with HDR turned off and it runs smooth I've even took mines to other friends houses on their Wi-Fi And I've had no issues.. I even play on my lunch break sometimes through my phone's hotspot in a warehouse that's located on the lobby floor of a hospital where I only get three bars.. I don't play any first person shooters or are you online competitive games because it's not really made for that It's that should be pretty much given because it's a remote player. That's just my opinion based on the experience that I have had I have a friend at work in the warehouse with me who sold his and said he it was almost unplayable because of the stutter. I thought maybe I can't see this letter if there is and set him a video of me playing and he couldn't believe how smooth mine was and we both have the same internet provider And he's done all the hacks to make it supposedly run smoother..
I was playing it the other day. I learned that if you have your wifi on your phone turned on and use it next to the ps portal, it will cause interference and lag your game. Having your phone on mobile connection is fine.
Yes , i just got it . Its super good ! Hope sony comes in another portable like this but standalone .. but then , better to have it stream also ... used to leave my ps5 alone and my son using it , but now its different ! enjoying every single moment ...
Its really good when you are in gaming mood and your partner wants to watch shows I basically use it for night gaming inside the duvet and its fun guys I don't know for the previous updates but i got an update recently as its only 2 weeks old and i am loving it and believe me no video is doing justice to the screen quality it actually has

Just got one on order. I played remote play with the steam deck and it worked great but I’m missing the dual sense features and I had some Amazon credit so it worked out. I like that it’s lighter weight and will pair up with the pulse elite headset I already have.
I pre ordered mine and i use it every single day . I mainly play remnant 2 and final fantasy online on it . At home its nice. My Internet is 🔥so i don't notice any kind of lag . 2 kids and a wife. The thing feels like gold when the tv is occupied . I also use it on my breaks at work . Best 200 ive spent in a long time . Only gripe is battery life when screen brightness is maxed .
@@purepsx I'm honestly not sure . Anything that isn't a competitive shooter runs like a dream on it . I play almost every game in my library even ow2 I can throw down on if I'm on my home network
Do I need to disable HDR before connecting it to my ps5? I normally play on oled tv. Wouldn't it look terrible if it took hdr picture and converted it to sdr on the device? tonemapped
200 bucks is a steal with how hefty this thing is ...I actually bought one as a replacement for my duel sense , one of my duel sense triggers got sticky cause one of my kids spilled soda on it lol...This is like a premium controller with an added screen.

There was so much complaining but yet it keeps selling out. And whats more its success seems to have led to Sony now working on a full on mobile gaming device (a ps Vita) based on rumours.
I live in Manchester and work away 3 to 4 times a week and, it streamed perfectly while i was in Edinburgh tethered to my 5G hotspot and the other end my ps5 is connected to my wireless virgin media box.
It was a very positive and optimistic review of the PS portal. I’m getting mines tomorrow and I can’t wait! I believe it’s one of the most desired products of this year…

Will it work with playstation plus where you can cloud stream games over your PS5 while mirroring it over to the portal or do they need to be downloaded?
Not only did I preorder mine, I exclusively use it during downtime at work and on weekends when I’m hanging out around the house. Pro tip: if you unplug the hdmi from the ps5, you get more power going straight to the portal since it’s not splitting imagery w/ your tv
Whoa this is the first time I’ve heard about this remedy. My PS portal is cool but the input lag kills me. So the lag is completely gone when you disconnect the HDMI ?
@@anthonycruz5661 my ps5 is also hardwired so that helps tremendously. I did see a boost in consistency w/ frame rate and input when I unplugged it. I plat’d lies of p and play hell divers with minor to no issues at all.
I bought on day one release & I use it only when Im away for work in other countries & honestly Im extremely disappointed with it. The internet connection sucks & most of the times it disconnects & lags.
My one complaint is I can’t get the PS5 to start up from rest mode with portal. Yes I have all the necessary settings on and yes I’ve tried turning them all off and on. It’s not working. I always have to use a regular controller to turn the system on first before I try to turn the portal on
@@remyboymontana1738 I did fix this recently. I just did a hard reset on the portal and then reconnected it to my console. Now it does what it’s supposed to. ✌️ try that.
@@remyboymontana1738 just go to the settings and I think it’s under “System”. There should be an option to reset the portal. Click yes and it should turn off and reboot. You will then have to set it back up like the first time you turned it on. But that should fix it
Just got mine yesterday after a 2 week delay, got 2 hours or so last night on it, had 1 or 2 little stutters while playing FF7 Rebirth, but my ps5 isn’t wired and my internet speeds are good, so will have to pop an Ethernet cable into the PS5 and see if that helps
Does having a lock on your PS5 cause issues with the portal? My PS5 is locked with a PIN and it seems like the Portal does not wake it up after I go into rest mode
Love my ps portal works great. I only use it with Wi-Fi at home or friends family house that have Wi-Fi . The phone hotspot is crap if the phone does not have strong signal.

Finally was able to order one through Walmart a few hours ago. Crazy that I’ve had a harder time securing a Portal than I did than a PS5 when it first released
I have a Galaxy Ultra with a pretty good Almost 7in OLED screen with a backbone. Its good enough for me plus i can play emulators as well as my ps5 games while using Bluetooth and always having internet connection

Did you get selected for the new ps5 firmware update? Idk if they did anything for the portal but now I'm not seeing the input lag I had before since I installed the beta firmware update. I was playing away from home when I took my elderly mom to see the doctor and I couldn't believe how good God of war and WRC 10 was playing smooth. I gotta be honest I was ready to sell my portal I hadn't even picked it up in about a month. I have great internet access and was not having issues the first 3 weeks I owned the portal. But now I'm back on using the portal 100% of the time. I don't even have the ps5 hdmi connected to my TV or monitor. It's acting as a server now
@purepsx I have noticed a big difference. Since it runs smoother I play god of war ragnarok on it now but I mainly been playing spider-man 2, ghost recon wildlands and breakpoint, also replaying uncharted 1 after 15 years. I also play a few rally racing games when I get a chance. To all the friends and family that told me this device was stupid I've shut up a few when I let them use it. Then all of a sudden they go to websites to find it and they see it's sold out. I just find it funny that they fell to people's opinions that have UA-cam channels and misinformed people. I almost fell for buying a rog ally over a steam deck by youtubers but I don't let influencers influence my own opinions. You don't strike me as an influencer. You're what I think of as an informer. You tried it out and you've informed us on your trials. That's the content others have to show not what they think of sony and Xbox. I like to see facts and trials then I wanna hear the pros and cons. I only choose sony because I went from sega to sony. I played xbox with friends and other family members but ultimately I've always had large hands and the playstation layout just feels better in my hands. It's also why I went with a steam deck over an ally or any of the other handhelds. When I plays xbox with my brother my grip gets tired then I can't jam out on my guitar later. Getting older going to be 38 in a week and yeah arthritis is catching up from years of hard labor, guitar, playing and weightlifting. The last thing I need is discomfort when gaming to unwind. The portal looked silly at first but its so ergonomically better than any other handheld I've had. I give it a 9/10 BTW if you want to just relax with a good narrative game twin mirror and Detroit become human they're not my main style of games I play but great to just unwind. I also got my fiance a ps5 a year ago and a portal about a month ago and it was fun us waiting at a restaurant for an opening. Wait time was going to be 45 minutes. I ran back to the car and got the 2 portals out and played a few levels of sackboy together. No issues 2 ps5 running off the same routers running remote play. We were lucky the restaurant had open wifi
The sticks are not replaceable on an edge controller because it costs $200, they are replaceable for customization purposes. If a steamdeck or Other premium handheld gets drift it's a far more expensive paperweight. But Portal has much bigger problem of the Y axis disconnecting on the sticks. Set haptics to lowest intensity asap!
@@purepsx I've read reports of the analog connectors releasing when they got heavy shake/haptics. So physical shock does sound like it can disconnect them.
I love this thing the first time I had it until I moved to a bigger house...now playing at work on my down time suck. internet router to far for me to wire lane it. Might as well have a Separate internet and have a gamer side of the house

Is this thing had replaceable joysticks and Bluetooth I would give it a 10 out of a 10 as of right now I give it a 8 out of a 10.. they need to find a way for people to connect to hotel Wi-Fi where you need to authenticate, coincidentally it's literally called a portal with the device the portal doesn't have the ability to because of lack of a web browser lol..
For anyone complaining about lack of a web browser is a 99% chance it just won't happen they've had literally updates to the PS5 to make it less accessible on that device.. There's a pretty big reason for it and that reason came out in 2017 where people found a way to exploit the web browser on the PS3.. since then even with the PS4 it's been limited use of a web browser and then to the PS5 there's basically not a web browser there and it's hidden.. As far as a memory stick I'm not seeing that happen for any future devices supposedly they're working on another handheld I would be surprised if it has a web browser or any type of SD card slot because of the exploits people have bounds to be able to jailbreak prior systems.. They literally came out and said they see no use for next gen system to have a dedicated to web browser It's not a coincidence people..
@@purepsx It's a little weird because for me the color banding doesn't happen with the remote app. I've been playing Blasphemous 2, Líes of P, DMC5 S.E during this last months and now Forspoken.
When you use it away from home on a different wifi or mobile hotspot, does it lose a bit of resolution and have a bit more input delay? I tried to test remote play at home on my phone with both same wifi vs mobile internet, and that's what I was seeing. But also my ps5 is not connected with Ethernet so I'd have to test how much that impacts the away from home/different network.
Similar position here, from recent personal experience that the wired ethernet is a lot more stable than wifi and helps with both latency as well as overall framerate. If you also have an android cell phone then it's easier and cheaper to get a decent 5G data package and tether the Portal to your portable wifi hotspot so you can basically take it anywhere and not have to worry about those website access web browser check boxes again to connect the Portal online ;)
How is the image quality? Doing a 1 on 1 to the screen rendering at 1080? I see no reviewer mentioning image quality at all. In home i get an almost no latency gameplay and a decent image. Just not super sharp as the image on my screen with occasional stutters. Which makes me wonder if that is the peak or i should keep looking for network upgrades in the house. But there is absolutely zero reviews on that and everyone you ask replies "plays perfect on me!". Even if they show a video with 200-500ms delay. God.
Unfortunately I don't think media playback will ever come to the portal, my guess it's to do with HDCP. As for cloud streaming I'd be so happy with that. Fingers crossed they add that soon
Must be your wifi setup I’ve had no issues are you using a 5GHz connection or a 2.4GHz connection it matters. 2.4GHz can send data pretty far but a 5GHz band can send more data at once. The problem may be your connection not being able to send enough data at once causing connection issues. Need to be on a 5GHz band that can send up to 1gb of data where a 2.4GHZ can send up to 600mb.

My only complaint about the device itself? The touch pad implementation is pretty poor. I know it's not the most used button on average but every time I needed to use it? Took 3 or 4 taps on the sides of the screen.
@@purepsx ff7 remake and I practice combos on Tekken 8 at the moment. But I can’t figure out why the portal won’t wake my PS5. I always have to use a regular controller to turn the system on first and then connect the portal
I was so lucky on day one I went to Amazon and got one for retail price. I didn’t even pre order now I go to amazon it’s sold out and there’s third party sellers selling it for 400 dollars double the price.
Since you get the same experience minus not having to connect a controller every time, you get a bigger screen by using a tablet like the Ipad. $100 would be worth it, but not at $200.
It was made for remote playing Only. I have no issue with mine's mind. What perfectly fine with Wi-Fi? I get PlayStation idea and the idea is perfect, and it's meant to play in your hand when you don't want to watch it on the TV. It's just that simple. I have no issue with minds. I play all three i get 6/7 hours No problem especially when I play dark souls It is not meant to play online gaming it's just that simple
Well I’ve had it for four months also and I say it’s not worth $200.00 and you may have the best Wi-Fi in your house, but depending on where your router is determines where you can play this at because WIfi 5 and 6 has a problem passing through some walls, Mine stutters and sometimes disconnects in the bedroom, from my experience it’s only flawless when your in the same room with your router.
I had disconnection problems but did some research. Now every smart tech in my house is way better. Things I learned: Have router 5ft off the ground and away from walls and furniture. Connect all smart home devices (lights, amazon alexas, ring doorbells) to the 2.5 router connection. Connect tvs and gaming systems to the 5.0 connection. Hardwire game systems with ethernet cord. ( 100ft cord $20 at bestbuy) Might be common knowledge but I didnt know any of this.
I didn’t like it at first but it warmed up on me. It’s not ideal for highly competitive online FPS like COD in my opinion. But for any other games especially open world RPG it’s fantastic *Edit I finished the entire video and my brother here confirmed exactly what I said lol*
No, it’s purely a streaming device for playing games on your PS5. You can’t do much else. You can’t watch movies on Netflix, Hulu, Max. You can’t watch the game on ESPN either. This thing is only allowed to play games. I’m actually really disappointed with it so far. Where ever you go they better have a really good wifi. If you live in rural areas where internet isn’t the best, do not buy this.
It seems kinda cool, but the device totally went backwards compared to the Vita and PSP. The price is too steep for a remote play online only device. Maybe a heavy discount would make much more sense.
It would be worth if it would be actual handheld and not only portable. Also its ridiculous that u need to buy 200$ costing earphones to it as an addition if u want to use headphones.

@@purepsx yeah I know, so Sony needs to put BT in it. Don’t if that will ever happen. Backbone is really good. I worried a bit about the size of my iPhone. But it plays good beyond expectation. Using it a lot. Only downside is the paid subscription which you get a year for free but I doubt I will renew it. But other than that it’s fantastic.
I'm not buying this because i don't need this. However, if sony announcesa new standalone handheld device (as rumoured recently) then boii imma preorder that sh*t expeditiously.
My internet is on the other side of the house from my ps5 and I’m not running a 50 foot Ethernet cable to my room so just ordered this if it ain’t good I’m returning it

@@purepsx helldiver's is freaking awesome on the portal .There is no lag or anything like that that I can tell. Performance has been flawless. I haven't even turned on my TV that my PS5 is connected to since I got the portal.

I got my hands on one today. I just only had enough time to go through the update and set up but I’m looking forward to actually using it. I’m a father of a two-year-old and most of my free time is hanging out with him and watching his shows. So it would be nice to actually start using my PS5 again.

@@purepsxIt’s been more a hit than a miss. I don’t think I have the strongest Internet connection but when it works, it works well. I was playing grandblue Ocean relink for 2 hours, and I completely forgot I was streaming the game. It’s very nice and premium looking device but I do have issues with it.
That won't last. I cannot game on anything without my boy quickly wanting to play it himself. He is 5 years old and it has been like this for a few years.

@@techhead78 I have 360, ps3, switch, series x and ps5. My game time gets constantly interrupted no matter what because if he is on the switch then he wants me to help him. Great thing is that he does enjoy 2 player games and we have been playing Mario Wonder quite a bit.

I love my PS Portal...have had one since day 1. Have taken it on vacation, to family member house and haven't had issue. I did some port forwarding and my wired connection is super strong. My only issue is screen glare in the sun.....it feels like a playing facing a mirror. After the patch for the Explore Earbuds...the combo of Portal and Explore earbuds is the closest you can get to playing on a actual PS5....which is the intent i guess. I've actually even done some Helldivers 2 co-op with it in my home and surprisingly enough it wasn't unplayable. All around great supplement to a PS5.

Best PS Portal games right now.... Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Also Baldur's Gate 3. I have been playing Final Fantasy 7 remake in the lead up to Rebirth (its a second playthrough). I played Granblue Fantasy Relink on my Portal to grind some but no co-op. I also played Remnant from the Ashes 2 both co-op and solo. If you play alot in your home co-op can work on the Portal because it is not so much as reaction to other players as it is single player content with a friend.

My cellphone (S23) works as a mobile hotspot....I connect to my phone and then connect my phone to a wifi source. If you have your PS5 connected with wired internet connection then you get pretty much the same performance as in your home over 5g. I've used my mobile hotspot over mobile data before but you have to have really good cell service to make it work.
Not being cliché bit genuinely this is the most informative and in depth video of long term use of the ps portal.

I think people dont know that if you conect your BT headphones to your ps5 after your portal is connected it works perfectly.
I don’t think my Bluetooth headphones will still get a signal when I’m away at work
I bought a Portal and sold it after 3 hours of total use. The dualsense controller is unbeatable but there was a slight noticeable delay, with rare lag spikes here and there. I sold it and bought a ROG Ally. The experience has been much better for me, no lag due to the play being processed on the device itself.

The stick drift potential issue is definitely a concern. I had it happen not so long ago on dual sense which Sony replaced, so I'd be always worried.
It looks like it's somewhat easy to replace with just unscrewing things without any soldering. I just bought one and looked into whether I should get a repair/replacement plan. I decided it should be fine without one, and self-repair will be viable if needed.
Massive problem with these that should be discussed. Can't connect to hotel Wi-Fi or any Wi-Fi that requires a webpage to pop up to sign in. Also doesn't seem to like using hotspot very well at all.
Update has fixed this!
I swear if sony would have marketed this as a remote play controller, and less of a streaming console, it'd be more well received in terms of narrative. I also think they should release an update for it to be able to be used as just a standalone controller for the ps5, including wired in. That'd really bring the
value of this machine to the max!

I do use it as a second controller. Fire up remote play and then my son joins us with the controller. There is the annoying Remote Play message on screen but I can live with it.
Just received mine couple days ago , was hard to get anywhere , I like it so far my only concern is if the buttons go wrong what do you do ? Replace the whole thing ? My regular controllers lasted me only couple months so I’m little concern bout it since I play a lot of mortal kombat .
I got mine a few days ago now and i absolutely love it. I live in a rural area and its given me no issues whatsoever. Been playing ff7 rebirth in my backyard and not a single issue, decided to take it further back in my yard on destiny 2 strikes and not a single frame drop ive noticed. As a parent that cant be in my game room due to parenting its been amazing for me.

I love my tv but there’s times I just want to hop on a game for a few minutes and not boot up my tv so the Portal been nice for that. Plus if you go to setting and turn off the setting that boots your tv when the console turns on then you can play the portal without your tv on which is nice no need to unplug the hdmi
The portal is truly for family people. I love my portal. I knew it would have bugs when it first came out. Anyone that got rid of it off bat is missing out

Honestly that’s my 3rd month with this and i am gonna be honest, i LOVE IT.
I use the Ps5 during the day but i pick the Portal many many times cause i simply love to lay on my bed or in the bathroom and play some Cyberpunk or Skyrim.
You may be thinking, how can you even play such an High Graphic and Colorful game like Cyberpunk on a Portal? That’s simple, the connection and stability has been so much improved at the point that i cannot even see the difference from my monitor which still, it is a High flagship one from LG.
i’ve never seen such a GOOD vibrant and colorful screen on a mobile device and i THINK that it is an HDR IPS panel which looks amazing.

Its been working very well. Sometimes, i do get disconnected from PS5 for whatever reason but a quick reconnect fixes that problem.
Otherwise, in our busy household with two kids its been a savior for myseelf.
I can actually catch up on my library. Very convenient and with proper, steady internet it a great purchase.

When I first got it I had internet connection issues. I went and upgraded my router and bought an extender that works in mesh mode with my router and that really improved my experience no more connection issues plus I have the slowest internet on earth 25mb down 5mb up so I learned it’s not about speed it’s about overall coverage.
I got mines on December 23rd I've had no issues with it I did drop the resolution to 1080p and I have mines directly connected to the ethernet cable with HDR turned off and it runs smooth I've even took mines to other friends houses on their Wi-Fi And I've had no issues..
I even play on my lunch break sometimes through my phone's hotspot in a warehouse that's located on the lobby floor of a hospital where I only get three bars..
I don't play any first person shooters or are you online competitive games because it's not really made for that It's that should be pretty much given because it's a remote player.
That's just my opinion based on the experience that I have had I have a friend at work in the warehouse with me who sold his and said he it was almost unplayable because of the stutter.
I thought maybe I can't see this letter if there is and set him a video of me playing and he couldn't believe how smooth mine was and we both have the same internet provider And he's done all the hacks to make it supposedly run smoother..

I was playing it the other day. I learned that if you have your wifi on your phone turned on and use it next to the ps portal, it will cause interference and lag your game. Having your phone on mobile connection is fine.

Just got one on order. I played remote play with the steam deck and it worked great but I’m missing the dual sense features and I had some Amazon credit so it worked out. I like that it’s lighter weight and will pair up with the pulse elite headset I already have.

I pre ordered mine and i use it every single day . I mainly play remnant 2 and final fantasy online on it . At home its nice. My Internet is 🔥so i don't notice any kind of lag .
2 kids and a wife. The thing feels like gold when the tv is occupied . I also use it on my breaks at work . Best 200 ive spent in a long time . Only gripe is battery life when screen brightness is maxed .

200 bucks is a steal with how hefty this thing is ...I actually bought one as a replacement for my duel sense , one of my duel sense triggers got sticky cause one of my kids spilled soda on it lol...This is like a premium controller with an added screen.

There was so much complaining but yet it keeps selling out. And whats more its success seems to have led to Sony now working on a full on mobile gaming device (a ps Vita) based on rumours.

I live in Manchester and work away 3 to 4 times a week and, it streamed perfectly while i was in Edinburgh tethered to my 5G hotspot and the other end my ps5 is connected to my wireless virgin media box.
It was a very positive and optimistic review of the PS portal. I’m getting mines tomorrow and I can’t wait! I believe it’s one of the most desired products of this year…

Not only did I preorder mine, I exclusively use it during downtime at work and on weekends when I’m hanging out around the house.
Pro tip: if you unplug the hdmi from the ps5, you get more power going straight to the portal since it’s not splitting imagery w/ your tv
Whoa this is the first time I’ve heard about this remedy. My PS portal is cool but the input lag kills me. So the lag is completely gone when you disconnect the HDMI ?
@@anthonycruz5661 my ps5 is also hardwired so that helps tremendously. I did see a boost in consistency w/ frame rate and input when I unplugged it. I plat’d lies of p and play hell divers with minor to no issues at all.
I bought on day one release & I use it only when Im away for work in other countries & honestly Im extremely disappointed with it. The internet connection sucks & most of the times it disconnects & lags.
My one complaint is I can’t get the PS5 to start up from rest mode with portal. Yes I have all the necessary settings on and yes I’ve tried turning them all off and on. It’s not working. I always have to use a regular controller to turn the system on first before I try to turn the portal on

@@remyboymontana1738 I did fix this recently. I just did a hard reset on the portal and then reconnected it to my console. Now it does what it’s supposed to. ✌️ try that.

@@remyboymontana1738 just go to the settings and I think it’s under “System”. There should be an option to reset the portal. Click yes and it should turn off and reboot. You will then have to set it back up like the first time you turned it on. But that should fix it
Just got mine yesterday after a 2 week delay, got 2 hours or so last night on it, had 1 or 2 little stutters while playing FF7 Rebirth, but my ps5 isn’t wired and my internet speeds are good, so will have to pop an Ethernet cable into the PS5 and see if that helps

Does having a lock on your PS5 cause issues with the portal? My PS5 is locked with a PIN and it seems like the Portal does not wake it up after I go into rest mode

Love my ps portal works great. I only use it with Wi-Fi at home or friends family house that have Wi-Fi . The phone hotspot is crap if the phone does not have strong signal.

Finally was able to order one through Walmart a few hours ago. Crazy that I’ve had a harder time securing a Portal than I did than a PS5 when it first released
I have a Galaxy Ultra with a pretty good Almost 7in OLED screen with a backbone. Its good enough for me plus i can play emulators as well as my ps5 games while using Bluetooth and always having internet connection

Did you get selected for the new ps5 firmware update? Idk if they did anything for the portal but now I'm not seeing the input lag I had before since I installed the beta firmware update. I was playing away from home when I took my elderly mom to see the doctor and I couldn't believe how good God of war and WRC 10 was playing smooth. I gotta be honest I was ready to sell my portal I hadn't even picked it up in about a month. I have great internet access and was not having issues the first 3 weeks I owned the portal. But now I'm back on using the portal 100% of the time. I don't even have the ps5 hdmi connected to my TV or monitor. It's acting as a server now

@purepsx I have noticed a big difference. Since it runs smoother I play god of war ragnarok on it now but I mainly been playing spider-man 2, ghost recon wildlands and breakpoint, also replaying uncharted 1 after 15 years. I also play a few rally racing games when I get a chance. To all the friends and family that told me this device was stupid I've shut up a few when I let them use it. Then all of a sudden they go to websites to find it and they see it's sold out. I just find it funny that they fell to people's opinions that have UA-cam channels and misinformed people. I almost fell for buying a rog ally over a steam deck by youtubers but I don't let influencers influence my own opinions. You don't strike me as an influencer. You're what I think of as an informer. You tried it out and you've informed us on your trials. That's the content others have to show not what they think of sony and Xbox. I like to see facts and trials then I wanna hear the pros and cons. I only choose sony because I went from sega to sony. I played xbox with friends and other family members but ultimately I've always had large hands and the playstation layout just feels better in my hands. It's also why I went with a steam deck over an ally or any of the other handhelds. When I plays xbox with my brother my grip gets tired then I can't jam out on my guitar later. Getting older going to be 38 in a week and yeah arthritis is catching up from years of hard labor, guitar, playing and weightlifting. The last thing I need is discomfort when gaming to unwind. The portal looked silly at first but its so ergonomically better than any other handheld I've had. I give it a 9/10 BTW if you want to just relax with a good narrative game twin mirror and Detroit become human they're not my main style of games I play but great to just unwind. I also got my fiance a ps5 a year ago and a portal about a month ago and it was fun us waiting at a restaurant for an opening. Wait time was going to be 45 minutes. I ran back to the car and got the 2 portals out and played a few levels of sackboy together. No issues 2 ps5 running off the same routers running remote play. We were lucky the restaurant had open wifi
The sticks are not replaceable on an edge controller because it costs $200, they are replaceable for customization purposes. If a steamdeck or Other premium handheld gets drift it's a far more expensive paperweight. But Portal has much bigger problem of the Y axis disconnecting on the sticks. Set haptics to lowest intensity asap!
does haptics on lowest intensity help?
@@purepsx I've read reports of the analog connectors releasing when they got heavy shake/haptics. So physical shock does sound like it can disconnect them.
I love this thing the first time I had it until I moved to a bigger house...now playing at work on my down time suck. internet router to far for me to wire lane it. Might as well have a Separate internet and have a gamer side of the house

Is this thing had replaceable joysticks and Bluetooth I would give it a 10 out of a 10 as of right now I give it a 8 out of a 10.. they need to find a way for people to connect to hotel Wi-Fi where you need to authenticate, coincidentally it's literally called a portal with the device the portal doesn't have the ability to because of lack of a web browser lol..
For anyone complaining about lack of a web browser is a 99% chance it just won't happen they've had literally updates to the PS5 to make it less accessible on that device..
There's a pretty big reason for it and that reason came out in 2017 where people found a way to exploit the web browser on the PS3.. since then even with the PS4 it's been limited use of a web browser and then to the PS5 there's basically not a web browser there and it's hidden..
As far as a memory stick I'm not seeing that happen for any future devices supposedly they're working on another handheld I would be surprised if it has a web browser or any type of SD card slot because of the exploits people have bounds to be able to jailbreak prior systems..
They literally came out and said they see no use for next gen system to have a dedicated to web browser It's not a coincidence people..

When you use it away from home on a different wifi or mobile hotspot, does it lose a bit of resolution and have a bit more input delay? I tried to test remote play at home on my phone with both same wifi vs mobile internet, and that's what I was seeing. But also my ps5 is not connected with Ethernet so I'd have to test how much that impacts the away from home/different network.
Similar position here, from recent personal experience that the wired ethernet is a lot more stable than wifi and helps with both latency as well as overall framerate. If you also have an android cell phone then it's easier and cheaper to get a decent 5G data package and tether the Portal to your portable wifi hotspot so you can basically take it anywhere and not have to worry about those website access web browser check boxes again to connect the Portal online ;)
How is the image quality? Doing a 1 on 1 to the screen rendering at 1080? I see no reviewer mentioning image quality at all.
In home i get an almost no latency gameplay and a decent image. Just not super sharp as the image on my screen with occasional stutters.
Which makes me wonder if that is the peak or i should keep looking for network upgrades in the house. But there is absolutely zero reviews on that and everyone you ask replies "plays perfect on me!". Even if they show a video with 200-500ms delay. God.
Unfortunately I don't think media playback will ever come to the portal, my guess it's to do with HDCP. As for cloud streaming I'd be so happy with that. Fingers crossed they add that soon

I had it for 1 month, my modem was behind the sofa I was sat on, my ps5 was hardwired to it, about 2 meters away, and it would lose connection
Must be your wifi setup I’ve had no issues are you using a 5GHz connection or a 2.4GHz connection it matters. 2.4GHz can send data pretty far but a 5GHz band can send more data at once. The problem may be your connection not being able to send enough data at once causing connection issues. Need to be on a 5GHz band that can send up to 1gb of data where a 2.4GHZ can send up to 600mb.
It comes down to the internet connection dont know why no body mentions that its the main thing but its worth it if you got premium internet system

My only complaint about the device itself? The touch pad implementation is pretty poor. I know it's not the most used button on average but every time I needed to use it? Took 3 or 4 taps on the sides of the screen.

@@purepsx ff7 remake and I practice combos on Tekken 8 at the moment. But I can’t figure out why the portal won’t wake my PS5. I always have to use a regular controller to turn the system on first and then connect the portal

I knew this would be a big deal. Everyone mocked me for pre-ordering. I was so happy when it sold out, that was the most satisfying told you so!
I was so lucky on day one I went to Amazon and got one for retail price. I didn’t even pre order now I go to amazon it’s sold out and there’s third party sellers selling it for 400 dollars double the price.
Since you get the same experience minus not having to connect a controller every time, you get a bigger screen by using a tablet like the Ipad. $100 would be worth it, but not at $200.
Still blows my mind that a device that just does the same exact thing as like 10 other products is sold out everywhere lol

It was made for remote playing Only. I have no issue with mine's mind. What perfectly fine with Wi-Fi? I get PlayStation idea and the idea is perfect, and it's meant to play in your hand when you don't want to watch it on the TV. It's just that simple. I have no issue with minds. I play all three i get 6/7 hours No problem especially when I play dark souls It is not meant to play online gaming it's just that simple

Well I’ve had it for four months also and I say it’s not worth $200.00 and you may have the best Wi-Fi in your house, but depending on where your router is determines where you can play this at because WIfi 5 and 6 has a problem passing through some walls, Mine stutters and sometimes disconnects in the bedroom, from my experience it’s only flawless when your in the same room with your router.
Ah that’s not ideal, make sure you check out my video with some tips to try and improve performance as hopefully it will help you out a bit 👍
I had disconnection problems but did some research. Now every smart tech in my house is way better.
Things I learned:
Have router 5ft off the ground and away from walls and furniture.
Connect all smart home devices (lights, amazon alexas, ring doorbells) to the 2.5 router connection.
Connect tvs and gaming systems to the 5.0 connection.
Hardwire game systems with ethernet cord. ( 100ft cord $20 at bestbuy)
Might be common knowledge but I didnt know any of this.
My playstation pulse headphones work for it. As long as I use it in the house

yea thats right, sony have disabled it, it doesnt let you stream any media apps to the portal, hopefully they change this in a future update
Wow really that is strange- I can boot my PS5 with Chiaki on Steam Deck and play any apps I want-
That’s wild. Even the PS Vita was able to stream Netflix.
I didn’t like it at first but it warmed up on me. It’s not ideal for highly competitive online FPS like COD in my opinion. But for any other games especially open world RPG it’s fantastic

No, it’s purely a streaming device for playing games on your PS5. You can’t do much else. You can’t watch movies on Netflix, Hulu, Max. You can’t watch the game on ESPN either. This thing is only allowed to play games. I’m actually really disappointed with it so far. Where ever you go they better have a really good wifi. If you live in rural areas where internet isn’t the best, do not buy this.
It seems kinda cool, but the device totally went backwards compared to the Vita and PSP. The price is too steep for a remote play online only device. Maybe a heavy discount would make much more sense.
It would be worth if it would be actual handheld and not only portable. Also its ridiculous that u need to buy 200$ costing earphones to it as an addition if u want to use headphones.

I’ll stick to my backbone until they fix Bluetooth. If it had Bluetooth I owned one already. Playing remote all the time.
unfortuantly you may be waiting a long time, suppsedly there is no bluetooth chip on board the device :( how have you been finding your backbone one?
@@purepsx yeah I know, so Sony needs to put BT in it. Don’t if that will ever happen. Backbone is really good. I worried a bit about the size of my iPhone. But it plays good beyond expectation. Using it a lot. Only downside is the paid subscription which you get a year for free but I doubt I will renew it. But other than that it’s fantastic.

My internet is on the other side of the house from my ps5 and I’m not running a 50 foot Ethernet cable to my room so just ordered this if it ain’t good I’m returning it
