It's worth it to call out Sony for this trash tbh They're not doing him a favor by sending a free device to advertise for them. They got what they deserve.
I see a lot of people who compared the Portal to the Wii U gamepad, but the Wii U had a dedicated wireless network between the console and gamepad. That way if your wifi was congested/slow or you were offline the gamepad would still work. You would have very few frame drops unless you got too far from the console
And let’s not forget, the Wii U game pad was INCLUDED with the console. You have to go out of your way and pay half as much as your PS5 for this hunk of junk
This is a good point to think about. This older technology provided latency up to 100ms LESS than what would be seen out of your tv. Meanwhile the Portal has latency between 60-100ms MORE than what is being displayed on the tv the ps5 is connected to.
I don't care if Sony hates your guts after this review, I appreciate the brutal honesty. The best part is you were cynical but practical and I'm not annoyed by it at all unlike other reviews that lean negative on a product. I genuienly think this review was loaded with thoughtful information that comes from a man with years of experience testing controllers and other remote play devices and he's not afraid to tell it's a piece of crap if it's a piece of crap. Well done dude!
I am a little concerned about what happened, since he says he also gets the lag on smartphones, but I haven’t really seen any lag or issues at all on my iPhone 14 and 15 pro max. I’d need to see a review from someone who has a near perfect experience on iPhone to know how much this device really sucks.
I think they just rushed this thing out. It’s JUST a streamer. Sony didn’t have to do anything special to win here. They literally could’ve just copied Logitech. Start with a basic tablet with good battery life. Make a Sony software theme on top of Android, give it the Sony sexy style and design and send it off. Bam woulda been a hit. No, Sony always gotta be difficult…
"but.... you can play the ps portal anywhere! not just in your house!" as if you'll be taking this anywhere with you lol. i'm pretty sure the wii u gamepad is more portable too.
Wii-U gamepad didn't need wifi, and allowed you to play your video games offline, and without a router. You just needed to be close to the console. Someone at Sony's R&D seen the Switch, and said "Holy shit! Let's copy the Wii-U, and make it shittier!"
@@Shyguy2434 the Wii U gamepad sucked, no doubt about it, but at least it had a stable connection and at least some of the games made use of the Wii U gamepad's features. The PlayStation Portal on the other hand, is just plain shit.
Doesn't even matter, people with fiber optic 1gb+ wifi are still saying it has streaming issues. EDIT: I am not implying that it is worse than any other way to stream. The issue is that it isn't better but an expensive option that can only do one thing as opposed to every other device.
@@arthurdurhamthat's because the internet speed isn't what matters. It's how good your _local_ connection is. And even that isn't the primary issue with PS Remote Play. Their encoder sucks.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 I didn't feel the need to get into the nitty gritty and add bandwidth, Ethernet, wifi protocol, etc bc my point was people with terrific Internet and in the right environment are still having streaming issues
i got flooded with reviews about it and they all said its AWESOME, idk feels like they got paid quite a bunch to make it look insanely "good" even some compared it with the steam deck and gave it a 8/10 while steam deck got a 7/10 as comparison. i was mindblown that they even said its the perfect streaming device. i actually believe they live in a different world than I do.
I respect you so much for this. Im going to join your membership based purely on your honesty. If anyone deserves support its a content creater with a spine.
Thank you! After watching several other reviews of the Portal, I was beginning to think I was the only person having the issues you describe: unpredictable stuttering, frame drops, poor video quality and, most importantly, connections that work fine one time but not another. It's good to know that someone else with a stable internet connection and the knowledge/skill to find and fix problems is nonetheless having the same issues I am having.I no longer feel like vox clamantis in desertos (a voice crying in the wilderness).
I thought I was tripping as well. The very first time I played on the Portal, it worked amazing in my bed. I thought I struck gold. Second time was the same, but then the third night it was terrible and I tried to use it one time in the morning as well and it was terrible connection again while my Internet was showing 300+ mbps down (I have fiber internet as well) so what’s up with this dumb Portal being so inconsistent? Sony needs to do huge patches to the thing otherwise it’s a big failure.
Let's be real, when they asked about where we intend to play it, the question was never about locations outside your house. The toilet would be my guess for the most likely answer in single households, the living room, when the TV is occupied would be my runner-up for shared living spaces. That's probably why it only works greatish sometimes, when you sit pretty much next to your router. EDIT: Also the airplane mode is just hilarious.
I'm pretty sure that Sony also marketed this console to work outside the home too, meaning you can take it pretty much anywhere. So there's that. Either way, Sony lied.
@@michaelmyersplays4992 Oh cool, so it works on public wifi networks now that require you to accept their ToS does it? It doesn't drain your mobile data if you decide to hotspot it to your phone? My apologies
@@michaelmyersplays4992 Pfft Ya as long as the internet youre trying to connect to doesnt require a internet browser to sign into. because sony dont know what that is apparently.
@@xMRxLAMAx It's a fair comparison IMO. It's not derrogatory, I have a WII U and is was cool to play offscreen while having no lag at all. The thing is the Wii U range is far limited compared to wifi, which you can "extend" as far as your setup allows.
@theunknown7441 I really could care less about what Nintendo thinks of it. I judge a product for what it offers, not because everyone is buying. And here we are comparing remote play capabilities.
Those WiFi mesh systems tend to suck in my experience, much lower bandwidth, especially if you aren’t using Ethernet as the backend to connect each and every one of them, but even then they still tend to add a bunch of ping and jitter. I always recommend people just get a giant powerful wireless router with a ton of real external antennas on them and aim them properly. On my property I can pull full bandwidth in any room or outside, whereas when I tried the Asus WiFi mesh system my bandwidth halved and ping grew by 20% or so best case scenario. That time for your packets to hop across air and be processed and sent twice really adds up.
I have a giant powerful router with 8 antenna sticks screwed in around the outside. Could you share some tips on properly aiming the antennas? Or are you saying, like, get an antenna extension cord and point one or two into the basement?
@@evshrug If you can run a cord you'd be better off running an ethernet cord to the basement and then connecting a 5ghz wifi hotspot down there. 5ghz wifi is always going to struggle getting into a basement, and antenna extension cords won't work, since the size and resistance of the antenna has to match up with its frequency.
My house is really long and a single router just doesn't do it no matter how many antennas. I have a router and two access points and this works far better than anything I tried before.
The PS Vita at launch was $250, and later the same price as this ($200). The perfected Steam Deck OLED model is $50 more than a PS5, and you can play just about anything from every era on it (and that's without even talking about emulation, just what the Steam store makes available and affordable). I think Sony has made these decisions really easy for us.
As much as I love my SD OLED. You'll have a shitty experience playing new AAA games like Alan wake 2 on the SD OLED. Some games are made to be played on a Big ass OLED TV. Not on a handheld like the SD or the ROG Ally. A small screen just doesn't do it justice.
@@UmVtCgI bought Lenovo Legion Go instead because of it's big screen among other things. I don't play much AAA Games on it besides Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order which runs at over 60 FPS. I prefer smaller games on a handheld. I have 2.5 TB SSD on mine.
It’s a legal necessity in portable tech like this due to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) requiring it because of critical aircraft instruments.
@@MoviePhone431I understand now that its because there are laws forcing this feature but its ridiculous, the FCC should have made an exception for this product. Feels like Sony and the FCC didn't talk it out at all...

Thanks for your honesty, Bob! I thought it was weird that only a few reviewers were mentioning the audio issues. You can really tell who's licking Sony's boots by how positive their reviews were.
ymmv applies to this.. you can see with some video reviews that their ps portal works almost flawlessly.. it there's a video proof then it's not actually boot licking..
@@SSID94 that's why i mentioned mileage with this device may vary.. and it's unfair to imply other revieeers were probably faking their "better experience" than wulf..
@@BL4CKF4NGThey key is that sometimes it works well (which Wulff said) and sometimes it does not (which some other reviewers do not disclose). I do think that Wulff has the launch edition PS5, which was known for having more random shutdowns, but that doesn’t affect variable quality while successfully streaming.
give us a honest answer, is your PS5 connected with Cable or wifi? It should be connected with cable directlly to router. If you play off site, your home upload speed matters, if you internet is busy uploading your videos to YT, and you try to game that wont work
17:09 That's actually extremely common for Sony. The PSP and the PSVita both used proprietary memory cards for storage expansion. You couldn't just go down to your local tech store and pick up a SanDisk SD Card, it had to be a Sony SD Card. Gets even better, Sony SD Cards would not work with anything other than a PSP or Vita(I assume to prevent people from plugging them into their PC and side loading things onto the PSP or Vita). The fact that the PS5 DualSense works natively out of the box with IOS being MFI Certified blew my mind due to Sony's history about locking their stuff down so hard. Both their PSP and Vita also used proprietary disks, meaning that they could not be read by anything other than the system they were intended for. They also tried to sue two emulator manufacturers once it was known you could play PlayStation games on a PC from the actual disks, because that was supposed to be proprietary as well. The PS3 was also chocked full of proprietary-ness. The PS4 DualShock 4 in the beginning was also locked down to the PS4 and required some creative workarounds to connect it to a PC and get most of it's basic functions to work. Even now a PS4 DualShock 4 doesn't connect very well to PCs. PS4 and PS5, last I checked, also still won't accept XBox branded controllers as a viable control method, wired or wireless. And if/when they do, it's a severely degraded setup. Third party controllers have a better time connecting, but it's still going to be a lesser experience. Sony has always been about that "If you are on a PlayStation, then you will ONLY use our stuff". And this wouldn't be so bad except that with proprietary, comes a price hike. Sony LOVES to jack up the price on their proprietary equipment to double, sometimes even triple(or more) the price of the equivalent non-Sony branded tech. Want to use wireless earbuds for your gaming? No no no, don't get those $20usd earbuds you saw on Amazon, buy our $200usd earbuds. I stand buy a statement I made on the PS Portal a while back: It's a downgraded PSP/Vita. Both of those could connect to the PS3 and stream games from the console(It was an earlier time and modems were a lot worse back then, so the quality is forgivable), but they also had their own library of games that could be played without the console. And they could be taken out of the house and away from the WIFI, and still play games. This, they took the idea of locked down to the next level by locking it down to your house. This was intended for people with giant five bedroom houses and a WIFI signal that covers their entire five acre property. So they can sit next to their pool and play some Spider-Man. The average user, unless they are extremely lazy(which is very likely), can just buy a spare HDMI and power cable for each of their rooms that have a television and set it up so all they have to do is move the console. It's not like the thing weighs as much as a Volkswagen. And it would be hundreds cheaper than getting a PS Portal just to play while laying in bed. Though it would not surprise me to learn that a future PS5 firmware update requires you to register your HDMI cable, and then locked the console to ONLY that cable. And it has to be a Sony branded cable. With special connectors that only a Sony branded television will have. The $3,000usd PS5 television that is built to look like the PS5. I'm pretty sure that you won't read this as it's long, and the video is about 5-6 hours old. But this video has earned you some respect from me. You were provided a product for review, and unlike others who will tow the line to get that cash payout, you did not mince words, or only show the good things to try and dupe others into getting it. And that is something I can respect.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I get that Sony is a hardware company first and foremost, but the amount of closed ecosystem BS is getting ridiculously anti-consumer. $200 for a screen attached to a controller and WiFi connector? $200 for PS-specific headphones which the devices will force you to use by not allowing Bluetooth, the standard everyone has? Playstation has become for the Payers.
At least if you get the items together for a psvita or a psp you can still do fun stuff with them even now. Hearing in the review that you need to use a app to pair this to the PS5 just spells out how much of a paperweight this will be in the future. They could have made it work from the ps5 direct to the system so it will work in 5-10- 15 years down the road. But no, Sony have made it extremely clear from the driveless system and the disc drive upgrade needing online activation, that they do not care about how what you buy will work in the future.
Small correction: The PSP memory stick duos were actually not exclusive to the PSP, it was a proprietary format SONY was trying to push at the time. If you bought a camera from them at the time for example, it would use those as well, and their laptops also had a reader for the format. I remember this because we used to own a lot of SONY products at the time!
@@ColasTeam Also all SD Cards at the time only supported 2gb maximum, It wasn't until 2006 and SDHC that they went up to the same capacity as the Pro Duo. I can't find much information on the speed difference between them, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was also a factor.
To be fair, almost any Android device nowadays has specs that match the PSP. This could have easily run older PSP software but Don't decided to just not do that
The Vita at least supported ad hoc WiFi from what I recall. So if you were in the general vicinity of your PS4, it worked pretty well. The only real issue was the lack of physical trigger and stick buttons. The Portal feels like a half-arsed measure to cash in on the portable craze. Thing is Sony could have made a Steam Deck like system that could play PS4 and PS5 titles locally. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme can deliver a Series S/PS4 Pro level of performance. That probably would have been a big win.
I'd have preferred they made a device that could play PS4 games on the go, and stream PS5* games. But they're not going to, because only 5 people including myself bought the Vita. *I said stream because you'd never get a handheld as powerful as a PS5 before 2026 at earliest, 2030 at best. People already complain that the PS4 is "holding back" PS5, imagine all the whining if PS5 games have to be downgraded to be able to run on a handheld device.
Amazing video! Usually when I see these "ad" videos, the UA-camr is always saying how amazing the item is and saying some weird and small drawback just to show they were being "honest." You even mention things that even the non-ad UA-cam videos didn't mention (like the PS5 turning off when you're away, so the device is useless). Keep up the great work!
ngl ive seen one that praised the thing like heaven and mentioned "there are some issues, but for me it runs so smooth" 1 clip later showing gameplay it was actually stuttering and he was like it never happened & called it a flawless device. surely not paid at all.
My only issue is lag. If the ps5 is off the portal can wake it, I'm half way across the country for thanksgiving and it turns on and connects to my ps5 no issues. But playing a game is not worth it, honestly the switch oled is a better value imo. Might try steamdeck OLED. Idk lol
From the reviews I've seen I would expect us to get something in the middle...so I think it is good to see both kinds of reviews to know what could be. Really happy for the harsh and honesty reviews like this one!
It seems like a lot of your issues were network related. I get that the Portal has to work with a variety of networks but I have played a lot of Spiderman 2 on mine with no audio issues at all. I have my PS5 hardwired to ethernet and my dual band router was only about 80 bucks from Walmart so I probably have a way worse router than you would have. Also I played about an hour and a half of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty on it last night and it ran perfect with no lag, artifacting or audio issues at all. I also got a 3.5mm to bluetooth adapter and it works good for bluetooth audio. Even using that there was still no audio lag or issues. Also based on your PS5 issues you might need a new PS5, it seems defective if it turns off by itself and your remote play needs to be reset all the time. That's not normal.
Same...I been playing chorus and I have zero connection issues and it works really really well. I enjoy the portal..it's a great accessory. Way better than using my phone and less cumbersome than using my laptop
Best honest Portal review so far. Why this thing doesn’t (also) have an out-of-the-box proprietary wifi connection between itself and the console, is truly baffling. It’s the thing that Wii U locally already did excellently. Having to bounce this thing via your local wifi network is just stupid.
There's no point in the PS5 having a proprietary WiFi hotspot feature. If they had done this, you would have needed to be within close proximity to the PS5 to use the remote play feature. Which defeats the purpose of the Portal. An 802.11ax router will have a much stronger signal than anything the PS5 would be capable of, and you have most likely placed your router in a better location for wide coverage. People complaining about local WiFi being an issue have simply never properly configured their WiFi.
@@milo_andrsThe only people who enjoy this thing are either shills or have extremely low standards. The review has mostly objective points (comparison to PSP, Wifi 5, random PS5 shut downs), so what you claim is purely bogus and disingenuous.
@@koushuu You clearly haven't tried it. Think about it. Why would you compare a controller with the PSP, I'll give you the WiFi 5 as it is not latest standard, but throughput over 5ghz standard is more than enough for LAN streaming. Lastly random ps5 shutdowns? Sorry mine doesn't do that at all 🤣🤣🤣 Honestly you can safely say the reviewer has great network equipment probably not set properly and devices hat are defective. This does impact his experience, bit is by no means the same for everyone else.
So nice to hear an honest review...big psp and vita fan and feels like a step backwards. The Vita turned me on to OLED and now others like Nintendo/Valve running with it and Sony dropping the ball. Just give us a SONY steam deck level system...plays the same games at lower rez but natively.
...but thats Exactly what this does! i have seen NONE of the issues this guy shows in his review, NONE. I urge anyone who has stuttering or latency issues to go get their home network sorted out.
@@ScowlerJaseit's a $200 device that requires a $500 console. The steam deck is $550 and requires nothing else and is dead simple to set up, and actually has games, and once you install the games you never need internet on it again. There is literally zero reason to buy into this thing, especially since you need to be tethered to your home or have the console turned on for days at a time when you aren't home just in case you have an itch for Spiderman 2 for the 30th time
@@ExtraThiccc The Steamdeck ( which I also own ) is anything but simple to setup, you spend more time dumbing down the games to get any decent performance from them , than actually playing the game. Also - the battery then lasts about 90mins if you are lucky - and all this on a sub-par lcd screen. The PS5 does not need to be left on for days - it’s in rest mode as mine always is and woken up when remote play connects. You do not need to be tethered to your home at all - I have used it from a different country than my PS5. @@ScowlerJase dude the steamdeck guides your hand through the entire process of setting it up, took me like 5 minutes of pressing buttons, the rest of the setup is automatic, ie downloading updates and games. I've been able to get a solid 2.5 hours out of playing dying Light and ets2 on it, granted i run it at default graphics since theyre perfectly fine 95% of the time. Even then adjusting graphics settings takes minutes. And "setting up games to run on the steamdeck"? Not my fault you wanna play world of warcraft on it, I'm content with the dozens of games in my library that directly support the steam deck with zero set up (literally just install and play) and the other hundred or so that support it but occasionally has a glitch or two, or dont restrict graphical settings on it, so it doesn't have the green check mark. And the playing the PSPortal in whole other countries? Dawg I'm calling cap, it's been out for like couple weeks, how many countries can you even go to in that time? Besides, value beats out the portal by a good couple hunge, let alone the fact that Sony games are coming to steam anyways, and for cheaper, so why even bother?
Mine’s doing the same thing i’m so sick of it glitching saying there’s barely any internet connection when i just installed a wifi mesh system of over 1000mbps i want my money back over this shit
If by "review" you mean "painstakingly read an unfunny script written to him as he barely puts any life or passion into his acting and jokes" then yes, I guess. 😅👍
Finally someone tells it like it is… I feel the same of the Portal. Who knows maybe you feel different with all the updates now? Personally I never cared for it, since remote play exists even a 3rd party app which improves remote play on phones. Anyway it’s up to everyone to decide cuz at $200 you’re buying just an accessory pretty much. That our phones and even other tablets can do, with similar or better results.
I feel like reviewers like IGN and even Linus are giving this waaaay too much leeway when they’re given a 200$ product for free to ‘review’. If this was an Xbox or pretty much any other company product this thing woulda been shat on for weeks. Really appreciate how in depth this review actually was.
I have the portal since day one. I have used remote play on my iPhone and SteamDeck I do noticed a difference, the Play station portal is a better experience for me. Been playing FIFA 2023, Fortnite and Spider-Man Miles Morales. I have no interest of using it away from home only at home, because I’m have family and most the time I can’t seat in front of the TV for long periods of time. When I travel I take the SteamDeck or Nintendo Switch. I’m a gaming dad 😅 so the PSP 2023 is not for everyone but for me is perfect 👍🏼
I 100% believe they named it this way that people would associate it with the PSP. They know that people would be more positive about it with that association.
Looking at your footage it looks like that device doesn't work that well for you. I've had the complete opposite experience I do not see any frame skips or stutters when I'm at home, wifi 526Mbps(down)/304Mbps(up). It's a solid crystal clear connection from any point in my house. Sitting on the shitter playing GT7, Warframe, Battlefield, and Remnant 2 like I was sitting at my TV. The only issue I did have while at home was the remote play just lost connection to the PS5 for no reason but I just reconnected and kept playing. I did get a chance to play it from 300 miles away on my parents wifi 253Mbps(down)/27Mbps(up). From there the Portal would run into a momentary lag spike frames skipping and artifacting for at most 10 sec then it would resolve. I played Warframe for about 30 min and Remnant 2, with psn party chat, for over two hours. It was completely playable the whole time. I will admit no Bluetooth is stupid so I had to use an old pair of earbuds to connect to the 3.5mm jack and the mic used for chat was on the Portal. This device is a win for me but as you can see mileage may vary for others. This device doesn't rely on internet speed while in home but it does rely on network speed so I would suggest hard wiring the PS5 to an ethernet cable, giving your console a static IP, and forwarding these ports TCP 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 and UDP 3478, 3479.
If it had a direct connection to the console like the WiiU gamepad for a near instant response I would have bought this day 1. Having to go through the router will always introduce an amount of noticeable input lag that makes certain game genres unplayable.
It gets even worse with certain networks. Remote play on my MacBook is unusable upstairs in my house because my ps5 is hard wired to the downstairs mesh router
Vita had direct connection to ps4. And I could use that only sitting in same room. Even one wall between introduced problems with image and input. I tried to use ps portal recently and haven't seen any such problems. However I haven't tried dynamic games yet
I found out a tip to significantly improve the Remote Play experience on the Portal. You need to unplug your HDMI cable from the PS5 and then connect with remote play through the Portal. Performance is a lot better and smoother. Also there is minimal stuttering (tested on Local Home Network).
If you have a Sony TV, turning on Simple IP Control in the Network Settings of the TV will resolve issues just as well without the need to unplug the HDMI cable. Honestly, the Playstation Portal does exactly what it's advertised to do, and how well it works really is up to the user's network setup. That's why reviews and reception are all over the place with this thing - it all depends on your network and not the device itself. Easy to test though by just using remote play on any other device before buying it though.
@@jamespalmer421 The reason you need to unplug the HDMI cable is to completely eliminate the need for the PS5 to process the video output to the TV. This allows the console to solely focus on remote play and it doesn't need any additional processing for outputting to the TV. This might sound like a small tweak but I have heard many people reporting a massive difference in the overall connection quality when doing remote play. Trust me. It's not a small upgrade but something very significant that many more people need to know about who use remote play streaming a lot. Try this out and let me know how it goes for you!
I think this is very much a “your mileage may vary” type of product. I have been playing remote play on my steam deck through chiaki and to a lesser extent on my phone in the past and played gran turismo 7 for multiple hours, over 1.5 hours away from home with both the deck and ps5 at home only connected to wifi and had a great experience with 0 lag or dropped frames. I think ps remote play is fantastic, so it’s weird when I see UA-camrs like Bob say how trash remote play is. I am in Canada on Bell network for reference. I don’t have a portal but seeing how good remote play is on my steam deck makes me figure that the portal would be great as well.
Did you even watch the video? He wasn’t “trashing remote play”, he’s a big fan of it. He just doesn’t like the portal. Also, saying you has “0 lag” is hyperbolic and disingenuous
@@CVSooner777 how is it hyperbolic when that’s the truth? Lag is different from latency by the way. Also yeah he said remote play sucks multiple times in the video lol. Why are you mad?
It's going to be HEAVILY dependent on your network setup. If you have lots of WiFi interference (Bob likely does, living in New York with all the devices he owns) and a less-than-ideal network setup (mesh WiFi isn't great for stuff like this), then you're gonna have a bad time. I've used remote play on my Chromecast and it works just fine.
@@CVSooner777 The fact that you were so quick to instantly dismiss someone's experiences makes you as ignorant as you are arrogant. My PlayStation Portal also has no lag, stutter, or image quality issues.
I've been doing Xbox cloud streaming on my Android phone with the Razer Kishi v2 controller and it has been great. Love not having to have the console on to play and haven't had many issues with latency with it. I saw the Portal and thought it was a bit silly even before I knew about the lack of bluetooth and other issues it has. To me, it seems like they should have made a Steam Deck type device instead. Give me something that can download and locally play PS4, PS2, PS1, PSP games as well as do remote play and streaming. I'd buy that even for $400.
You know why they don't want to do what xbox are doing? Because people can skip buying the ps5, which they can't afford to do like nintendo, xbox is going with the steam path and in the future will become a live service like what they wanted since Microsoft live, xbox/Microsoft can afford to lose the hardware side but sony can't.
"failure", exceeds sales expectations. The device works well with just 15mb with single player games. It was never meant to be used to play CoD online.
7:21 "in my own house" it the stupidest reply you could ever give. The answer could've been "laying in bed", "in my backyard", "in my living room". "Where are you planning to play?" "ON PLANET EARTH, DUH"
The real thing Sony didn't tell people is the fact that they use the exact same analog stick design as the Duelsense controller, so yeah, can't wait for this $200 portable device that is hard to disassemble, to just be permanently unusable in 1-3 years-assuming it doesn't kick the can within months just like the Switch lite. And if you want to just use the dpad and/or are into Fighting Games, its the same model from the duelsense as well which is just tragic.
tbf i never had stickdrift on my consoles in my life, on 3rd party controllers tho... yea very easily. But i agree if something goes wrong its pretty much e waste, let it be just the battery
This is hands down the most honest, direct and entertaining handheld review......period. I stream using the logitech g cloud and guess what...I can also stream xbox game pass, play EVERY retro gaming console without wifi AND i have all the apps of an android tablet. Soooooo we have a winner.
I think the big issue with official remote play, is the app itself. I tried an app called PSPlay instead, it costs around £5, but I gave it a go and it is a far superior to the official app. Colours pop more, lag and latency is less noticable, and I think the resolution is even a little better. It does drop out on occasion, but no where near as much as the official Playstation app. Might be worth a try, obviously not with the Portal, but with the backbone it might be worth a go.
Even though I have no interest in a device like this from Sony, I really thought they would improve the remote play functionality. Pretty disappointing that they didn't.
He's the first person who I saw that gave a review and said it wasn't working properly. Everyone else that I watch has had great things to say about it
I haven’t had an issue with the Portal, in fact I have a better experience with remote play than I ever did on my iPhone XS with backbone. I respect the honesty, but it really depends on your home network on how well this performs.
It's like they wanted to hop in on the handheld craze right now but they knew that it would be very difficult and expensive to have the capability to run AAA titles natively. So instead they just put a screen on a controller and used the remote play tech that already exists. Good stuff
@@Cybersamuraidave I’m sure it’s a little different for everyone, but I love mine. I have a mesh network setup in my home. I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not, but my portal is practically 1 to 1. Sometimes I forget it’s remote it feels so good.
I can't wait to get one. It has an update where it's easier to use public wifi. This will come in handy for me because there are times when I'm not gonna be home to use my ps5
4:49 lmfao no, it’s a testament to how stupid people are. The mute button literally glows when you’re muted, you’re gamer tag has a volume symbol coming out of it. You can also turn the microphone off permanently in settings
This is why I always test things out myself. I was ready to hate this thing after watching but I got it as a gift so i figured id try it out. Turns out most of this was cap, at least for me. I'm not sure if they updated or what since the review but my experience has been really smooth so far. Im aware this could be an unique experience but I doubt I got a special unit. The only annoyance I have is switching accounts is trash but there is a workaround with the app.
I bought mine 3 days ago and my experience has been terrible. Very laggy and disconnection issues. I tried everything around to make it work. I loved the ergonomics, display and overall experience when it came to gaming when it actually briefly did work but sadly thinking about returning it. I was wondering what are your network settings and how are you running it? May be I can give it a last try before returning it
@@jawadqaisrani3244 sorry for the late reply I have my Ps5 hardwired and HDMI disconnected. I had my ps5 set as priority on the Internet prior so I have no idea if that affects it. I have 1gb down but I have the same experience at work with only 32mb down. No particular other settings to note. I have not tried any online shooters as of yet because I play those on PC. So far I've done a playthrough of FFXIV, The base game of Monster Hunter World and about a quarter into iceborne, Finished a Tales of Vesperia file, and played Speedrunners with my friends. The only time I disconnected was during a storm, and the only time I found noticable input lag was during online play on Speedrunners which does that even on the console. Not sure if any of that helps but as of now no real issues popped up yet
The use case I see mentioned the most is that if you want to play PS5 and the TV is being used for something else by another family member. To me though something like the Logitech G Cloud would be a better option, sure the controls aren't going to be as nice as the Dual-Sense but you can remote play from your PS5, stream if you have PSN Premium, stream from your PC or even from Microsoft's XCloud. The Portal reminds me a lot of Apple products in that it's likely going to be great if you are inside the eco-system but becomes a lot less useful if you want to step outside of it.
The ecosystem has nothing to do with it. It’s a matter of just having a straight forward home network setup. It seems bobs network setup is expensive but it garbage for remote play (mesh networks). Even his Xbox remote play footage looked really pixelated. Imho the best option to try this is a backbone since you can get 5G right on your phone, which works really well when you’re out, in my experience.
@@Otacon1105 The eco-system certainly does play a part. After all the only thing you can use the Portal to stream is content from your own PS5. Thus you are locked to Sony's eco-system should you purchase it.
@@Giliver it’s not useless because for people who use remote play regularly, the experience in your phone is okay at best. 8 inch screen with super ergonomic grips with all the duealsense features is waaaay better than just using your phone. But if you never used remote play before, yeah, I’d start with the phone and with a portal.
I got a portal for Christmas and it works great. Haven’t had any issue. The only thing that sucks is not having Bluetooth or web browser but other than that it’s a really great remote player
Nothing but respect man. People should look into the Abxylute handheld. You can remote play Series X, PC, Steam, and PS5. You can play local Android games as well as emulation up to PS1. Hall effect analog sticks,.1080P/60hz screen. Expandable storage. Comes with a case as well and compact. It's the same price as the Portal.
I've had a near perfect experience playing spiderman 2 on the portal, no crackling and clear quality graphics. My fibre is 60 down and 20 up. I see a lot of users in north America with theses problems but not for me In the UK. Played at another place through different WiFi and still great.
@fantasytky28 unbelievable, why would I waste my time to lie . I'm not a fan boy , I have all the consoles. These people who give crap reviews are all using mesh systems, there's obviously a problem using them . Don't call me a liar again.
For its use case it does what it’s supposed to. I sent mine back because my $1200 WiFi 6 mesh network for some reason couldn’t get a good connection to it. For $149 more you can get. Steam deck….
which can play remote play just as well (horrible, but that isnt its fault) oh yeah and its a freaking pc that is actually portable 😂 sony is my favorite but there decisions recently have been so stupid
@@Bruh_Moment..and as well as streaming, Steam Deck can play pc ports of many good Playstation games like TLOU, Spiderman, Uncharted, Days Gone, and so on. As Sony released many of these for pc. The Steam Deck can also play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games via emulation. So it can become more of a Playstation machine that what Sony can offer itself.
If you have that much money why on earth would you get a Portal over a Steamdeck?.... Its just a worse device in nearly every way, I don't understand the logic aside from some weird fanboyism to the brand.
@@Giliver The Steam Deck is 800p(720p), will get black bars, the streaming quality is not as good as the portal, no haptic feedback and adaptive triggers like the Portal while streaming, way smaller display, and if someone with a ps5 gets a Steam Deck they will have to buy the games all over again if they don't want to stream.
My best guess is that the PlayStation Portal is intended to free up the TV when my girlfriend would like to use it, should I decide to continue progressing through my game in the meantime.
Most, if not all, videos about the Portal showed stutters and/or frameskips, I was confused because many of them said that it's working well 😅 If only they put the effort on a proprietary tech for a much better streaming, not that it's not yet proprietary, instead of the proprietary audio tech. Sure better audio is nice to have but the streaming part is literally the main function of this device 😄
Here is the real reason the unit won’t do well. Wulff doesn’t like it because it runs poorly, but head over Retro Game Corps who claims to have bad internet in Hawaii and it runs super-smooth, or to Digital Foundry and likewise runs like a gem. I’m not saying it’s worth it, but that SONY can’t even guarantee it will run well for you in your little digital echo system. You have to pay $200 to find out if it even does the ONE THING it designed to do and do it with any efficiency. I am a Sony guy, but this is a complete blunder on the other end of the spectrum for handhelds.
omg, a tech reviewer being honest when he says that poop on the plate is actually poop instead of insisting i first take a bite. you just got yourself a sub my dude.
Just one more reason why Nintendo continues to win in the portable department. The sleep mode feature on the switch functions like that of a smartphone, and you never have to worry about the switch turning itself off for no good reason except the battery is completely dead. And though I don't think the OG switch is all that pocketable, it is much more pocketable than something like the PS Portal, or the steam deck. I also think Nintendo was right to make a smaller version of the switch.
It’s a worse version of the psp 10 years alter stop glorifying that greedy company. There’s a dozen better handhelds for 100 dollar more then switch. And I and my family own em. Waste of money
I don't think we should be looking at this as a portable. It's not a portable... It's just got portable features. Isn't it being promoted as a controller type? That's what I see it as. Might be unfair to simply try to compare it to actual portables.
When this was announced I couldn't believe it was as pointless as it sounded. I assumed Sony would surprise release a new update for remote play that actually made the app usuable. Or that they would do something with the hardware that improved streaming to it better than anything else and at least have bluetooth. There had to be some aspect I was missing to make this viable. But they really just cut a dualshock in half and slapped a tablet between it and it can only use a service that 3rd party devs have made better apps for on other systems. Not even that really bc tablets have native functionality, this can't even run android or Linux, have basic bluetooth functionality, and many use Wifi6. Basically every other option is better than this. A steam deck or any other gaming umpc, a cheap phone and a backbone, hell even just turning up the volume on your tv the highest and playing your ps5 just by audio cues from another room. Who is this for? Streaming geeks will know better than to waste their money on this and the tech illiterate will return it once they realize it's just internet based.
This dude is going to come back in 2 months and say how he was wrong about the Portal. I have it and haven’t had any problems. I use it at home, work and I don’t know who plays games so much that you have to have it working 24/7 anywhere in the world 😂
@kirby3969 he was complaining about the back of it… he was complaining how is not portable, he was complaining about the lag which I have had it only once not work properly, he was complaining about how loud it is due to the controller features… never had that problem. I will give him that the Bluetooth thing is dumb but is eh when everything else works so well
@kirby3969 I’m doing the same thing he did and you’re crying about it 😂 grow up with out of your Kirby stage and then talk to me. Cannot wait when he puts out the video saying how he was wrong
@kirby3969 you’re* dude, you asked me why I disagreed, I told you and you said I was complaining 😂 do you even have the portal? I highly doubt it. And yes product can work differently sometimes but his cons were just straight up dumb
Just got mine couple of days ago, and I really dont know what are you talking about in this video, Portal works like a charm on my other address where it was meant to be in the first place. Picture quality is excellent, no issues with streams, it`s always 60fps ...
Dude! What a great review. I still can’t fathom how much you were able to roast a device given to you by Sony for free. Now that is flexing. 💪 Also, this is the ONLY review that roasts the PlayStation Portal this good, to this extent-every other one I’ve watched so far was extremely generic, touching none of the things you did. Devil’s in the details I guess? 👀 I was actually on the edge of getting one, but none of the other reviews seemed genuine enough to convince me. I don’t know what it was that they were lacking, but something always seemed off, until I’ve seen this one. 😮 I always had that feeling, telling myself it can’t be this good-there had to be something bad that those other reviews probably were NOT revealing. And here they are, all of them! 😬 Great job, you won a subscriber-keep it up! 🫡
If you already have a Steam Deck or any Windows handheld, you can just get remote play running on those devices. I played through most of the Demon Souls remaster on the Steam Deck and never had any weird hitching issues like are shown in this video.
Steam Deck is 720p while Portal es 1080p, double of the resolution, is way more enjoyable on the Portal than on the Deck (I have both). Runs good on my setup with a good router and not the one provided by the ISP.
@@CarlosNVR not really but ok preference i guess. the difference is very hard to notice when daily drive it. side-by-side yes as u have both, when i tried it out there wasnt much difference after couple of minutes u wont notice it so its like having game running at 60fps vs 75fps. Also u can hook up your steam deck to a TV with remote play if visiting friends or family. + lan capable
I can tell easily that the quality on Portal is superior, not only because of the 1080p but also because of the LCD panel which is better than the one on the standard Deck. The controllers feels better, more ergonomic, and you have the adaptative triggers, same button layout... With Steam Deck you have some advantages like you said but it really depends on the way you play, I never used my Deck hooked on a TV. I agree is up to your preferences at the end.@@JoenHarlver
I own a PS Portal and I'm enjoying it. I have my ps5 plugged into my router and I don't get too much lag. i'd rather stream games on it than my iphone being the screen is just too small on ita. I really like the light weight and the comfortability of the control grip. Screen is a real nice size. i understand the nitpicks about the mic but i'm not sure it needs a whole minute of video time to bash. It's far from perfect but I've enjoyed my time with it a lot.
I've had nothing but a great experience with this. I remote play my steam deck with my series x and love it and this is by far the greatest way to remote play my ps5. I am a dad who rarely has access to my tv so maybe I'm biased. The first time I killed the battery it did chug but haven't had any issues since. I guess it's definitely a case by case basis
Try chiaki4deck on your steam deck. I used it to stream the entirety of Spiderman 2 and it was fantastic the entire time. A flickering gray frame maybe once every 45 minutes, but besides for that it was incredible
Shhhh! You are not allowed to like it or have zero problems with it. Same experience for me , zero issues. I think all of us who know what this is for and are enjoying it without issues need to just let the haters blow off steam for a while until they realise the issues are not with the Portal , but with their shitty home network setup.
I’ve been using remote play on my phone and iPad, and put in about 50 hrs of death stranding on the iPad at work on work WiFi. I definitely like the Portal the most in terms of comfort and convenience. I haven’t had any streaming issues after giving my network a restart last week. Since then it’s been quite successful. Sorry the experience on your end has been butts lol
Same here - its been great for me - so great that you forget you are remote playing and you feel like you have a PS5 in your hand ( at 1080p ). The internet seems to hate this device though - maybe because they are all realising they may not have the best home network setup they thought they had. I`ve even played this from a friends house ( he only has 10Mbps upload and 17Mbps down ) - again zero problems.
My experience has been mostly positive, though I do notice some tiny stuttering not present on other PS remote play options, hopefully that's something that can be addressed. For me this will mostly serve me when my partner would like to use the TV in the living room or I'd like to play in bed. I do think the screen is great and the ergonomics are pretty good. I don't fault anybody being down on this thing though, the experience should be the best possible remote play experience out there, and it's not.
It's just the most undesirable product for intelligent people who know what good value for money actually is. But credit to Sony they know the majority of their customers will blindly purchase anything with a PS logo. No questions asked.
I have a portal, a backbone and a steam deck. Also a multitude of other ways to stream PS5. Its been a little hit and miss on all of those devices - that's the nature of streaming. Certain games seem to lend themselves better to streaming. The headphone accessory stuff is weird on the portal. In Canada those headphones are $300CDN. That being said - I do like the screen and ergonomics on the portal and I've had some fun gaming sessions on it when away from my PS5 in the basement. My PS5 is wired and I run a 4 node mesh wifi system. One of my main complaints with the system is that I think the lowest volume setting when using the speakers is too loud.
The hilarious part of them choosing to make the Portal and PS5 rely on your home's internet connection is that Nintendo already made bullet-proof in home streaming with the Wii U and the Wii U GamePad without needing a router because the Wii U transmits its own 5GHz Wi-Fi signal directly to the GamePad without using any external internet connectivity. Furthermore, the Wii U in its day could run Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video on the GamePad while all those services are disabled when streaming from a PlayStation console to any Remote Play device, including the Portal. I feel like Sony made the Portal out of spite to discredit dedicated handhelds like the Switch, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion, and other dedicated handhelds instead of meaningfully participating in the market. If/when the portal fails, Sony will use the same excuse they previously made with the Vita that "handheld gaming isn't popular"; but the catch this time is that, unlike the Vita, the Portal is a bad product. People *do* want portable gaming, they just don't want *bad* portable machines
This is the first "real" review I've seen for this product on UA-cam so far, and I've watched a few different videos from pretty well-known and generally trusted reviewers (looking at you LTT). They gave this thing WAY more positivity and credit than it deserved, and it was shocking. There are *good* reasons this device managed to conjure up its own hate bandwagon. It really is *that* bad. I'm not saying being toxic online is helpful, but for the love of gaming, *DO NOT* buy this device.
Look I get it you and others were expecting a handheld that featured download capabilities, face time, gps, a blood pressure checker, with the optional penis pump feature.. I get it. But that's not what this item was intended to be. People are literally mad about something that wasn't even promised or presented in any way lol.. this is plain and simple a device that you can use in your home when away from the tv.. that's it.. like nothing else. lol. And I get you want something better or with more features but that's not what Sony put out or said they were putting out .. . For me , the portal works great! No lag, picture looks great, the grips are like a ps5 remote and comfortable.. I can play ps5 when the tvs are being used and I can play in my back yard next to the pool while I have a nice cold beer.. I enjoy it and it works with no issues for me.. maybe Sony will come out with a psp in the future that would be awesome.. but this ain't it.. and wasn't meant to be ...it...
Well with me the portal runs butterysmooth. Even Returnal or COD run perfectly playable on the portal. For me it's amazing addition for plying in the couch while the kids playing on the tv or my wife looking at her series.
9:28 Hey there! Noticed your PS5 might be overheating - try placing it horizontally for better cooling. Vertical position can sometimes lead to heat buildup. Hope this helps! 👍
I have no issues when using my portal. At home it runs and looks great and even when I tried it outside using my hotspot 40 miles away from my house it ran great. The problem is peoples connection so you really cant fault a device like this just because it doesn't work for you because for other people the portal is a great experience.
THIS! this is exactly what I'm saying. I've had mine from day one and it's been flawless. Dudes have been looking for a reason to hate on the portal. The portal is fantastic for what it is I have had zero issues with mine. People just wanted PlayStation Vita clone so bad so now they are nitpicking like brats. I also own a steam deck and a switch and I don't compare them cause they are not the same thing. The portal is not a handheld console. The crybabies need to get over it
I'm loving my Portal. I used to stream on my Odin, but it isn't comfortable for games that use the right stick a lot. Also, the screen is too small for me to see smaller things, like text. The Portal solves all my issues. I agree it is a very strange product, but I just happen to be in the niche that this thing was made for.
@@luciantendogaming Is it really hard to believe that someone is enjoying the device? Not sure what's up with Bob's wifi but my portal works miles better than his video shows.
I preordered one and figured I could resell it before the holidays if I didn't like it. That's not happening, because I am keeping it. I like having a single item with the Sony style controller and a good sized screen. I play on a different floor on the opposite end of the house from my standard issue Comcast router and only had lag during one game. I debated getting a refurbished Steam deck, but I really like the Sony controls and I only have 2 games on Steam. And after struggling to get comfortable with a Nintendo Switch, I am completely over dealing with difficult hand controls. So the Portal solves this for me and I'll be using it for the next few years. By the time it dies, something better will be available or I'll pick up a used one.
@@luciantendogaming nope, I would’ve 1000% preferred a standalone device, but I can’t say I’m not enjoying the portal. Not playing games like cod obviously but GTA and fifa are a blast on it

Guess what WE DESERVE BETTER but because of Simps like you this is what we get a 200 dollar piece of plastic with a garbage screen on it and it doesn't even do what is supposed to do. It's almost 2024 and people still falling for this scams at this point Sony can sell a piece of shittt tied to a little rope and you Simps would pay top dollar for it... Its actually embarrassing that you defending a product that does not do what it supposed to do that its life depends on a wifi connection no Bluetooth (Ohhhh guess what you can buy the Sony earbuds for extra 200 bucks and it would magically work what a coincidence right) and you can't even play COD in it meaning it's worthless trash.... But who am I trying to convince.. Its your money your decision... But it won't change the fact that the "product" is a piece of shitttttt and guess what.. And yes the item is selling even scalped and not because it's good it's because we living in a era where everyone wants to have the newer thing doesn't even matter if it's good or not and Sony knows that... And just think about the older parents that actually don't know they need a full PS5 and they buy this for there kids thinking they can save some money and get there kids a PS5 portable for the Christmas... I went on a week long vacation few hours out of town. Brought my switch and portal with me. Never touched the switch, was able to play my whole PS5 digital library as well as the disc I left in it (Spider-Man 2) with all the greatness that comes with native ps5 playing (haptics, ergonomics) it was so wonderful and far exceeded my expectations. I thought I’d only be able to play on my home network. I use the portal every night after the children go to sleep. It was money well spent and I’m thoroughly impressed with the remote play ability. First few seconds there’s stuttering but as soon as the connection is strong it stays strong until I turn the console of myself. I happily disagree with your whole topic of conversation.
I wish you could turn on the ps5 with the portal like you can with the standard controller and the screen should of been a OLED screen, the steam deck oled looks so much better and sounds alot better than the portal, I'll be getting a rog ally v2 when it's on sale and see how that remote plays on xbox and ps5
I watched pretty much every single review and decided to pre-order this. I couldn’t wait for it to arrive. My feelings about it now, mirror your thoughts entirely. At home sat next to the PlayStation. It works pretty well. I’ve taken it to work with me every day and at lunchtime I’ve spent time trying to connect to the PlayStation. I still haven’t managed.

Man PSP was so ahead of its time even Sony cannot reach it.
The screen on it alone blew me away. It still looks like a modern smartphone screen; There was nothing else like it on the market.
PSP games were amazing, and you could even play PS1 games, almost all of them!!
It's not even ahead of its time cause the screen wasn't even a touch screen. There's also no online play.

I see a lot of people who compared the Portal to the Wii U gamepad, but the Wii U had a dedicated wireless network between the console and gamepad. That way if your wifi was congested/slow or you were offline the gamepad would still work. You would have very few frame drops unless you got too far from the console
Not to mention the gamepad also serves as a secondary screen with unique gameplay features, whereas the Portal is just straight mirroring.
And let’s not forget, the Wii U game pad was INCLUDED with the console. You have to go out of your way and pay half as much as your PS5 for this hunk of junk
@@tempeenak134that's the dumbest comment I've read in a while. Good job
This needed to be one of the Portal’s capabilities out of the box.
This is a good point to think about. This older technology provided latency up to 100ms LESS than what would be seen out of your tv. Meanwhile the Portal has latency between 60-100ms MORE than what is being displayed on the tv the ps5 is connected to.
The mute button take is sooo agreeable. Like who at Sony thought this would make sense. Like maybe they’re just collecting our data…
Maybe they just wanted to push widely used mic chat on PlayStation finally, even though the novelty of 2009 Xbox Live MW2 lobbies is long behind us

Bam woulda been a hit. as if you'll be taking this anywhere with you lol. i'm pretty sure the wii u gamepad is more portable too.
Wii-U gamepad didn't need wifi, and allowed you to play your video games offline, and without a router. You just needed to be close to the console. Someone at Sony's R&D seen the Switch, and said "Holy shit! Let's copy the Wii-U, and make it shittier!"

Doesn't even matter, people with fiber optic 1gb+ wifi are still saying it has streaming issues.

Even the Sony fanboy dreamcast guy complained the same issues in his review
I thought I was tripping as well. The very first time I played on the Portal, it worked amazing in my bed. I thought I struck gold. Second time was the same, but then the third night it was terrible and I tried to use it one time in the morning as well and it was terrible connection again while my Internet was showing 300+ mbps down (I have fiber internet as well) so what’s up with this dumb Portal being so inconsistent? Sony needs to do huge patches to the thing otherwise it’s a big failure.
Try turning off PS5 updates and downloads in back ground. Internet connection improves greatly
You have to have your ps5 internet hooked up up with line cable not WiFi to have a Steady connection and functioning the right way
Let's be real, when they asked about where we intend to play it, the question was never about locations outside your house. The toilet would be my guess for the most likely answer in single households, the living room, when the TV is occupied would be my runner-up for shared living spaces.
That's probably why it only works greatish sometimes, when you sit pretty much next to your router.

@@xMRxLAMAx It's a fair comparison IMO. It's not derrogatory, I have a WII U and is was cool to play offscreen while having no lag at all. The thing is the Wii U range is far limited compared to wifi, which you can "extend" as far as your setup allows.
Nah there's a reason why Nintendo want to burry that console so bad next to the virtual boy.

I have 2.5 TB SSD on mine.

give us a honest answer, is your PS5 connected with Cable or wifi?
If a stingy company like Nintendo allows the use of SD / Micro SD cards, then you know something's really wrong with Sony. 😅
This would've been interesting if it had decent specs that could play PS1 and PS2 games. Not sure why they just focused entirely on remote play.
Yeah like make psn on it. For ps1 ps2 psp games..

I agree. I appreciated that detail haha
Yup working via local connection but they didn't do it.
Is honest but mostly subjective. He may have all sorts of issues while others are enjoying this device a lot and not thinking is a standalone console

That is a big oversight from Sony. Hopefully they can fix in an update.
This is true. Tested it with the hdmi plugged and unplugged. It makes a big difference.
I’ve tried this and I still have horrible latency on Remote Play.
I’m so confused with the hate for the portal why tf would I wanna use my phone to play a game a life line if an emergency happens?

In my case I could really perceive the input lag with xbox cloud and I stopped.using it. I look at my kishi that wants to be used so bad
I can only use the cloud streaming at my house which makes it useless at that point

1-3 years?! More like 6 months if the drift issues are as bad as they usually are for Dualsense controllers...

I used that as well and it's the best for Android device
Yeah I got a 3rd party app for my iPhone and it remote plays way better than Sonys app
Even though I have no interest in a device like this from Sony, I really thought they would improve the remote play functionality. Pretty disappointing that they didn't.

Good stuff
Portal is fantastic. I never have connection problems. I’ve been playing it since day one and love it Maybe the remarkable failure is your network
Really? I want to buy 1 but I'm afraid of these issues
@@Cybersamuraidave look at other reviewers, a lot of them have changed their minds about the portal because it actually does work well
4:49 lmfao no, it’s a testament to how stupid people are.
Also props to Bob for spitting the truth and not caring whether it was a sponsor or not. Can’t get content like this anywhere else
Exactly some idiots called me dumb when I said I use backbone on my phone and play gamepass
You can literally use your preexisting phone for remote play, this device is genuinely useless.
@@Gilivermy phone doesn't have a controller connected to it and isn't 8 inches??
I got a portal for Christmas and it works great. Haven’t had any issue. The only thing that sucks is not having Bluetooth or web browser but other than that it’s a really great remote player
No its not working good
Why didn't you just ask for the receipt so you could spend that $200 on something actually worth it?
@@ambientNexus why don't you stfu and let him enjoy his Christmas gift?
That’s all you get with fiber? I dot. Have fiber and I get 1000 down
It's more than enough for what I use
Seeing all th biased hate comments on this channels, no! You must be lying, portal sucks
@fantasytky28 unbelievable, why would I waste my time to lie . I'm not a fan boy , I have all the consoles. These people who give crap reviews are all using mesh systems, there's obviously a problem using them . Don't call me a liar again.

@@skycloud4802 exactly
My best guess is that the PlayStation Portal is intended to free up the TV when my girlfriend would like to use it, should I decide to continue progressing through my game in the meantime.
Most, if not all, videos about the Portal showed stutters and/or frameskips, I was confused because many of them said that it's working well 😅
If only they put the effort on a proprietary tech for a much better streaming, not that it's not yet proprietary, instead of the proprietary audio tech. Sure better audio is nice to have but the streaming part is literally the main function of this device 😄
I recently purchased this device, and I truly enjoyed it. But i did get it after the recent updates that i heard improved the experience.
I’ll call it innovation when the device comes with something to protect the analog sticks from drift
The switch isnt even good either. 2 bad doesnt make 1 good
Lol nobody wants to buy legacy Nintendo anymore
I don't think we should be looking at this as a portable. It's not a portable... It's just got portable features. Isn't it being promoted as a controller type? That's what I see it as. Might be unfair to simply try to compare it to actual portables.
I think they do it because the price is up there with what was the price for a premium portable not long ago
Funny that Sony doesn’t like Bluetooth cause of the possibility of lag when they unleash this abomination
Subscribed due to passing the integrity check. Keep up the good work man. The world needs honest reviewers we can trust.
The screen is mounted so low in the device, it cannot be comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
Also, this is the ONLY review that roasts the PlayStation Portal this good, to this extent-every other one I’ve watched so far was extremely generic, touching none of the things you did. Devil’s in the details I guess? 👀
I was actually on the edge of getting one, but none of the other reviews seemed genuine enough to convince me. I don’t know what it was that they were lacking, but something always seemed off, until I’ve seen this one. 😮
I always had that feeling, telling myself it can’t be this good-there had to be something bad that those other reviews probably were NOT revealing. And here they are, all of them! 😬
Great job, you won a subscriber-keep it up!
@@CarlosNVR the Deck is 800p not 720p..

I've had mine for a week and it works just fine. No issues. And I play online multiplayer to. I feel like his model just sucks.
GOD this is such a more coherent & informed take than some of the other "reviews" i've seen
Just get a psp bruh
It's just the most undesirable product for intelligent people who know what good value for money actually is. But credit to Sony they know the majority of their customers will blindly purchase anything with a PS logo. No questions asked.
If you have good internet this is fine but still extremely pointless when your phone or tablet can do the same thing
Yep, pointless to you. A motorcycle is useless to someone who only wants to drive a car. You are not the target audience for it which is fine
“Sure do wish I didn’t have to carry around a phone AND a controller…”
**OP “yup, pointless”**
Same! The lowest volume setting is way too loud 😂
@@FuckinDarknessRising Right!!!!! Maybe this was the issue that made Wulff so cranky in this review! He just didn't know it.
@MattMartin4 Hahaha probably 🤣🤣
Oh totally the lowest volume is LOUD :D
Dude!! Yes! That sound level is so ridiculous haha
I have never seen a more honest review. This is why I am still subbed and watch Wulff Den. 💪😃
Who cares nerd
The anbernic review is fishy though but I still like wulf anbernic scks balls and shouldn't be advertised.
So the review is "real" cause it says what you want to hear about it then

What kind of router do you have? Also, how many devices connected to the router? Would be useful info.
9:28 Hey there! Noticed your PS5 might be overheating - try placing it horizontally for better cooling. Vertical position can sometimes lead to heat buildup. Hope this helps! 👍
Gravity also moves the thermal paste. Better to always place it horizontal.
And yet they are sold out everywhere. What a failure.
