- Here I make a quick comparison of some famous 4 inch belt/edc knives, the Esee 4, Becker BK16, TCR South Pole. What do you all think? Which would you choose if price wasn't a factor, just design?

All 3 sweet blades. Something about that TRC though
The TRC is another level. I like all three and will always keep and use them but just the fit, finish and look of the TRC is epic
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors there’s a couple of high end knives I got my eye on
Love ESEE knives
I do too
All amazing knives, but that TRC has that elmax dialed-in
Yea elmax definitely edges out pun intended 1095 by a long shot. Thanks btw
Trc all the way.
It is pretty awesome
Nice patina on the bk16
Thank you
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors did you do that yourself? Great job man, I love mine but I'm having a bit of trouble working on the edge
@@tonyvillarreal3610 I did do it myself. I did a base patina with vinegar and then the stripes are mustard.
The trc is so nice and expensive it's the knife most people wouldn't want to take out and use.
TRC all day everyday! Wouldn't even hesitate.
👍👍
Great vid as usual. Love my south pole owned the esse 4 great knife for the money but the trc is at the next level. Keep the vids comming
Hey thank you!!
That TRC is a bomb...love all three...but TRC shocking my passion
It is a nice blade for sure
Esee 4 is 💥 for 💰
It for sure is
All good blades but it's the BK18 & white river URSUS 45 for me....
Those are great blades. I just showed these 3 because they all have a similar blade profile
What is the purpose of having a finger choil on the esee 4? Its small enough it doesnt really need it. I dont own one to know for sure, but the only reason i could think of having a finger choil above the handle is so you can have a chopping and fine work grip.
I totally agree. That’s been a long time gripe with the Esee 4, it does not need the choil. That said it’s still a really good knife and the pros way out weigh the cons
I have the older generation TRC K-1 and its my fav knife of this size. I paid 215 for new one in 2014 and now the Southpole is.. a little more money :D
Yea I want to the the Polehiem I think it’s called
I like my Esees.
I think Esee makes the best knife for the money and I always suggest them
The bk16 is my goto
Solid knife for sure. I don’t have it but I have the bk18 and absolutely love it. Looking at the bk19 coming out soon
@@kennethrimmer1883 the BK19 is released. It’s available on knife center
The Becker is probably the most ergonomic of the 3 for sure
Amazing
Thank you
Broke my TRC and never replaced it, keep going with my ESEE . . .something about a quality blade . . .
How did you break it? Which model and which steel? Would love to hear more details! Sorry to hear that happened! That's a major bummer!
@@topfueljunkie100esse is just like a fucking steel pipe. But its cutting ability suck with all the coating and shit. I don’t know what goddamn door he was going to open, but it’s stupidity. Just read about the properties of the steel and don’t be stupid enough to think , if the knife is more expensive, it is more durable in terms of beating the shit out of it.
I’ll take two instead of one - simple.
I like Scandi Grinds.
Had a bk16 dressed in the coyote scales in came with and paint strips patina. Was the best little belt buddy for almost5 years till it got yanked. Absolutely love the ease no question warranty and have the 6 and jungalas. Really thinking I'm going to replace the bk16 with the ease 4 simply because the knives are better and that best in business no question warranty. If that bk16 came with ease warranty, it would be backers all day for light task. I'd never use any kabar in hard use with those hollow skeleton or rat tail handles.
I've a first run saber grind BK16 and love that thing. I've an ESEE4 with the sharpened clip and I feel like the 3D handle would make it much better than I feel it is currently.
Awesome! The saber grind BK16 is rare, hold on to it
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors Would you believe I got it from an auction of some estate that included a knife collection that had in the box, unused, completely mint saber grind BK16 and a BK17. I almost crapped myself when I saw them.
@@CrimsonCrux I’ve seen it, I sold a unused BK17 and got like $500 for it
Which is your favorite for the price?
The Esee 4 by far is the best bang for the buck. I almost always suggest the Esee
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors hav the S35VN in my cart now…. I’ve almost bought this knife now for about three years…. 😂😂
@@wellregulated8725 I think you’ll enjoy it. Esee knives have always been a staple brand on my channel
I like all of them but id probably take the esee because of the finger choil.
I like choils on some knives but the Esee 4 is one I don’t like it
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors I can see that. I kinda have smaller hands though so it may work better for me. I'd really like to sell mine and get an esee 4 hm though.
@@nathanstewart2018 I never cared for the HM series. The handles are too round. If you doing nothing but Bushcraft they are fine but for other tasks it’s hard to index it

I love how everyone wants the latest and greatest high end steel in their "camping" knives yet they don't realize that a good 1095 will take the abuse, stay sharp pretty well and bend but not break in most cases unlike the stainless versions put out these days. It's no wonder the majority of these are made from carbon steel.
I agree and more often than not those “super steels” later gets proven they were about 80% hype. There’s a reason carbon steel is still around.
1095 is only still around because it’s cheap.
It’s actually a pretty poor performing steel all around. There are MUCH better options for similar costs but since people still hold on to the misconception that 1095 is good companies will continue to use it.
52100, 80CrV2, and 8670 all produce a better product while having similar or less cost.
I wish kabar would make finger choils like esee does on their smaller knives
I think your being satire but that’s why a lot of people likes the Becker series is because they don’t have a choil
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors no I was being serious I love the finger choil most esee have but I can't bring myself to spend almost double for a similar knife with the exact same steel even kabars are getting up there in price I'm only saying this because the few esee I've handled were much more comfy in the hand
@@yeshua1176 if you like a choil you can always grind one yourself. I did it on my Esee Junglas. Another you might like is the Bradford Guardian. Thanks for watching
TRC would be last for me, Those are really overrated
I agree in a lot of ways
You can find them on the secondary market for decent prices. I agree on the msrp pricing but for the $185 I paid for my South Pole I feel it was money well spent (plain ol stain blade black canvas micarta).
Did you use mustard on the BK 16?
I did, started white vinegar for the bade and mustard for the stripes
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors looks good.
Trc has to have the finger choil or it’s a no go.
a 4 inch knife doesnt need a choil in my strong opinion. It really depends on the knife ergonomics
They are all similar. They are all the same, and one shape, form or fashion, because they are all probably made in the same factory, or in the same region.
Well they’re not at all actually. TRC are made in Lithuania by Andrius Tricius and a small group in his workshop.
What price did you say $100+
im not sure what your talking about
The Becker bk16 is like $110
The Esee 4 is like $140
The TRC South Pole is like $320 plus
Yes thanks, I'm in Australia, just trying to work out knife import laws and prices, you answered my question thanks, all good 👍
I,m have no doubt that they all serve there purpose very well and even though I have pondered over all the Esee blades over the years , I am a BK man and have 6 of them , including the 16 , absolute champion of a blade in my opinion but each to there own at the end of the day , Cheers , 👍🙂
The BK 16 is probably the most ergonomic production knife on the market for sure
