I'm not sure how I missed this video originally but really appreciate it. I own the 1095 versions of each knife and they are both great. In my thinking I like the heft of the Tops, but Esee gets my nod for the sheath. Hmm...?

Good video I have been looking at the esee 5 comparing it to the tops Bob myself

Love the saber grind myself. Although I tend to like Esse's style better. I'm thinking the Bradford line of knives will be my next endeavor into blades though. Tops blades are nice, just not into A lot of their blade styles although I do have a Skull crusher. Thanks for the nice matchup and comparison.🔪👍🗡️

I think the ESEE 5 is much more comparable to the BOB and would be a good follow up video. Also, going with both in 1095 would give a better comparison overall.

You do some interesting testing challenges. They were a pretty good match-up & I imagine either would be more than adequate for a bushcrafting role. Love the design of those leather scabbards !

I like Esee more because it's plain and simple without a bow drill divot and flat grind. $9 for two burgers at Carl's sounds good too.

I love both of them knives man! The Tops BOB 4.5 has been calling my name for some time now. I have been wondering how both of them do in their stainless steel versions. The sheaths are badass man. I will have to look into Carl Thomas sheaths. 🔥🔪👍

Nice comparison! I’ve been interested in the Esee 4 in S35vn lately. How do you find it works for feather sticking compared to a scandi grind, since it’s on the thicker side? Any thoughts on how it performs for skinning or working with food? Just trying to see how well it works for an all around knife.
Last thing. A lot of people say that Esee runs them very soft. Do you find that to be true, or do you feel the edge retention is decent?
    Thanks!

So. It works great for feather sticks. But a scandi will still out perform. For skinning and food prep it’s amazing. And the people that say it’s soft are soft themselves. Just because a knife gets optimal edge retention at a certain hrc doesn’t mean it’s the optimal hrc for this style of knife. A small thin folder? Sure. Harder hrc. An outdoor fixed blade? No. That being said. It holds a fantastic edge. I have a video of me testing it vs cpm3v and it spanks it.

@@peterbiltknifeguy Thanks, I’ll try to find that video. Thanks for the info! I did some searching and seen someone say that Esee runs the S35vn at the recommended 59-60?

Ive seen reviews on how the esee cant really use a ferro rod with the spine. But never seen a video with them using the finger choil. Does it work?

How is a knife not a chopper espespecially a thick spine bushknife....that statement makes no sense. It can’t be used to skin and butcher but not it’s main purpose. Sometimes I just don’t get these knife snobs. Just waiting for him to say you can’t throw sparks on a rod hahahaha

It's two separate grinds also so cutting won't be the same
