I'm 70 yr old and my very favourite of the vehicles I have owned in my life was the 2002 WRX bug eye wagon, which was the 1st yr they came to NA. Not only was it the most fun, it surprisingly proved to be the most reliable. Would never buy one now since they dropped the wagons/hatchbacks, a sedan just doesn't suit my lifestyle.
I agree. I bought a regular 2017 Impreza sport wagon/hatchback. I would of bought a wrx if you could get them in a wagon/hatchback. They really need to bring it back!
YES! Same with the 2015. I absolutely love the body style of my sport wagon....I can't stand that "sport" just means aero kit and the word "sport" embossed three times around the car. If they made a new wide body sti hatch it would look so sick.
One reason your reviews are so dope is your emotional connection to cars. Your mechanical knowledge, technical understanding, and amazing awkward humor don't hurt either. Would have liked to see the rally car climb hills where you take the SUVs and trucks. Meatballs, please.
"They car you'll love in ten years." You're spot on, and it might not even take that long. I have spent many moons in Subaru world, and WRX People always want the last one. I subbed to help you get to 500k. Great review.

Subaru released the WRX and Wagon here in the Philippines a few months ago. Although the wagon is only available in a CVT and it is priced at a premium due to high taxes. Also the SUV craze would make it a rare sight on the roads. Great review as always 👌
"You got that ALL WHEEL DRIVE bite pulling you around the corners" Sarah, Love when you say that. Recently got my 2023 WRX with a whopping 18 miles on it.

This was a great review and fun to watch! There was supposed to be an STI of this car, but the rumor is that it could not pass emissions standards anymore. There are pictures of it in Japanese car magazines, and lots of optional STI branded parts you can put on from Subaru.
I just figured that Toyota put pressure on them to NOT release an STI that would compete with the new GR Corolla, as a conditionof the FRS/DRZ collaboration or something.
I love my GT. Peak boost is 15+ psi so far. I’m not saying Subaru fudged the numbers, but they fudged the numbers. The other, marginally faster FWD cars in its class couldn’t get out of my driveway 4 months out of the year. This is a great car…yea, even the CVT in the GT is fine.
I drove the new WRX back to back with the new BRZ... and although the WRX seems faster... the enjoyment was night and day.. Ieft the WRX feeling like it was a chore to drive... and left the BRZ thinking I really need one - such a fun drive
"You can tell, by the way that it is." Is that a Vice Grip Garage reference? It's so cool when car youtubers know about and even watch other big car youtubers.
Great review and you really captured the essence of what makes a WRX so special... And yep Subaru going electric will be a total fail. Just look at Harley Davidson's attempt. It nearly sent them broke and we all hated it.
Definitely agree the styling will grow on people. The sound isn't amazing. Overall it's a good package, but it's so hard to be excited about it since they killed the STI. Subaru is losing its way in terms of enthusiast interest. We also need hatchbacks. Give us the Levorg!
This is a great overview. Especially appreciate the underside details, and your wheel size comment. Thanks! Keep the faith for Subaru, they can pull off something cool for the future.
There you go pointing fingers and flying off the handle! 👈 Great presentation, Sarah. I really liked the screaming tour through the green desert. Too bad the mountain lion had to wear rain boots. Loved your boots though.
I just traded my 2021 Crosstrek for a 2022 WRX. Considering the way oil and manual transmissions are struggling these days, I figured it was time for this bucket list car to reside in my garage. What Subaru SHOULD do is put these two cars together - lifted, turbo hatch with a stick. It's practically a parts bin thing. If I found out I could order one tomorrow, I'd suffer the loss of trading in my brand new car for it.
Plastic deck lids or (behind rear seat part) > They Melt. Great outfit Sarah. When Subaru goes electric > they will fold. Pity. Love the Blue paint on this.
I miss the WRX wagon, from the 2000s. Lots of those still out here in Colorado's high country, many of them running on skinny snow tyres all year round, for extra fun on twisty mountain roads.
LOVE that skirt, blouse, boot combo! You look pixie like!! (I guess that could be the idea) LOVE the review... I agree about the direction of Sube and what made it great!💋❤❤
I am now more conflicted. Great video! I watched your review on the Honda SI, and I truly like the styling of both WRX and the S I. Your review of both vehicles was awesome. Thank you for sharing the information!
OMG!! "Rain boots on a mountain lion!" 😆😆 I always give your reviews serious respect, and now that I'm on the cusp of replacing my '13 Mazda 3 Skyactiv hatch (manual, of course!), I'm giving this new gen WRX a spot in my top 5 cars I'm considering. If I choose this car, it HAS to be in WR blue, and I'll likely drop it off at Olympia Autobody to have the wheel arch cladding color-matched. Stay awesome, Sarah!! 😃
Shame we don’t get any new WRX / STI models in the UK anymore. In this country, best choice is the Outback. I had one a few years ago until I lost my job. Superb car. Solid, quiet, pulls very nicely for very relaxing progress yet in S mode could make light work of hilly twisty roads without any effort. Id like another and next time I hope to keep it for many years.
I just picked up a 23 limited and love it. I sold a 22 ZL1 that was a blast but too expensive and too many worries taking it out. this WRX is a perfect balance or daily use and fun.
Hopefully Subaru pays attention and comes out with an STi next year. I'm sure there's more power that can be massaged out of that engine, with appropriate drive line, suspension, styling and sound improvements. It doesn't sound like I expect a WRX to, but I imagine the aftermarket can fix that. Great review, and definitely my favorite pretend scientist!
It just isn't going to happen. We lost the Evo, then we lost the Focus RS, then the STi. Only Honda and Toyota can make the GR and Type R models work because of the economies of scale. Even if peg the development cost of the STI on the low end at $500 million for r&d and certification, it would take 6-7 years to break even at the sales volumes the STI sold at.
They aren't going to make an STi next year, it's already been decided. No one likes the WRX and theirs a chip shortage. They're going to make more of the cars people want and if people don't like the WRX they won't roll the dice on a new STi.
Love both the exterior blue and the interior two-tone blue seats. Also impressed with the performance of the redesigned turbo. Excellent and unbiased review! 👍👍👍
Great review as always! - I somehow feel the WRX lost part of it's magic when Subaru droped it's WRC-campiagn. Would be sweet to see them back again with this, right? Then they would not have any argument against bringing the STi back. I totally agree on the hatch-back being a more attractive offer than a sedan, but since the rally cars were sedans, I guess they want to keep that wibe going. Also - that pointy finger will never fail to bring funny moments - 😂 Excellent stuff! Thank you for what you do and Stay Awesome!
the problem is the WRX design didn't meet the new WRC Design Specifications, group A era ended and so did Subaru participation in the WRC, the wrx would look nothing like the hawk eye or earlier if Subaru made a conforming car.
I'd like to see Subaru Hydrogen Engines. Toyota which owns 30% of Subaru has been working with Subaru to be at the forefront of Hydrogen Engine technologies. Or Synthetic Fuel is an option as well.
2022 22 month/22K miles 5 sp. Pretty basic but for 30K hard to beat. Braking is very average...learned quickly with out a wreck, and road noise is noticeable. 6K RPM w/13 lbs boost kind of stinks, but as soon as 3/36K expire...mods will begin. It's a keeper!
