I'm really liking this channel. Shows you that the smallest things could take the most damn time. I don't know how other channels do it popping out video after video
Freaking awesome! Some helpful tips from somebody that has a 10th gen also a, lightning to be specific. Get a standalone trans cooler to avoid killing your trans (from experience here water got into mine because of a bad radiator) oh, and upgrade the radiator to the 3inch if it doesn't have it yet. You can find it on the 4x4 expeditions of the same generation. Highly recommend getting electric fans and wire them with the 3 relay 2 speed setup to avoid huge amp draws at start up in case you decide to set up on a switch for the a/c and the high on a 190 temp switch. My truck was a hoopty and ive had to do so much to it and im glad because it teaches you a lot.
Thanks man! I was thinking electric fans seemed like a good idea. Any recommendations on brands or are there any kits? Also I appreciate the shoutout on the radiator since I plan to be towing. Don’t want any overheating issues
I was considering doing this swap in my 05 f150, or at least the heads, front timing cover and intake. But it was more than I wanted to take on lol. You did a great job. Can't wait to see how it does when you get it all dialed in.
Thanks man! The 05 is a 3v, right? I’ll keep you guys posted on how it’s running. So far engine is running good and trans is smooth, but couple annoying little things to sort out
@JJinMotion yes it is a 5.4 3v. I decided since I was in there doing all the timing chain stuff, oil pump, lifters and followers, I'd put in a set of comp cams 127400 cams. So my money went to cams rather than 4v head swap. Lol
@JJinMotion it better be lol cause getting the cams was like opening a can of worms. Then I needed valve springs, phaser limiters, injectors, bigger fuel pump, and custom tune. All because I needed to do guides and tensioners hahaha.
This is really the engine that this generation of F150 should’ve had in the first place to be more competitive with the output of the GM trucks of the day, but Ford wanted to save a few bucks per truck. What really surprised me back in the day is that Ford didn’t even give the Lightning or Supercharged Harley Davidson F150’s the 4 valve heads. Nicely done.
@@JJinMotion I was wondering that myself. My guess is that low-end torque is similar between the two and it’s probably less noticeable at lower revs, but that at higher revs the 4v makes noticeably better power.
Where did you get those long tube headers? I saw a post of the fb pages of a guy looking for some and folks just told em to splice some up from a cobra to some f150 ones.
I bought ebay 2v lightning headers and then in a previous video I opened the flanges up with a dremel - seems good so far! Learned about this from a channel here on UA-cam called @fourcam150
It’s a huge job but totally doable. Just make sure you get a an 01 or 02 navigator engine + harness so it’s all plug and play. The later navi engines require more modifications

Thanks so much! It’s time consuming that’s for sure. But I love doing it
Great camera angles and video commentary
Much appreciated!
Hey well done, great video
Thanks a million!
Wow, who knew my drinking buddy (elegant coffee) had such mad skilz!

Haha money well spent it sounds like!

Haha I hear you on that! I wanted so badly to turbo this engine, but knew it’d spiral out of control with all that stuff - tune, custom fab work, etc.

Yeah, that is kinda crazy. I wish I had a reference for how much better the truck feels with the power that the 4v has vs the 2v
