Was fighting thrips for a while. Had the same thought “I can’t just keep throwing away plants with pests”. So I buckled down and treated all my plants. I’m happy to say that (for now) I’m pest free!
Now as an adult seeing friends, family, and UA-camrs with kids, I realize how much patience my parents truly had with me because kids ask sooooo many questions on repeat and sometimes they are talking gibberish expecting us to know what they’re saying 😂 My friend’s kid looooves being with me when I go visit them. Always going on about something, wanting me to do something with them, wanting to have me hear about the political drama between their stuff animals etc. I only have to deal with it for a few hours- my friends have to deal with 24/7 haha. Just adorable all around!
Ohh my!! I jump out of happiness once I saw you posted. Will you do a video about how to water plants? Lots of new plant parents are clueless about how to. Some will do the method of bottom watering or have no idea what’s draining pots. A video about it could be so useful, specially for the Reddit plant community. There’s also the ones who mist their plants for humidity 🙄
My brain was immediate “MICHELLE!! Get the Korean old lady gloves!!!” The second you almost touched it. Also went to visceral 🤮 at the mites under the microscope - it’s why I can’t buy one, I feel safer not ACTUALLY knowing. AND - Tiny humans 100 Eomma questions!! Adorable 😍
You're better than me! Those calatheas are picky and are so prone to mites, which are *so hard* to get rid of. But your method seems to work really well! Fingers crossed!
Having a microscope, IMO, is one of the best tools for plant people. I struggled with mites and regardless of the treatment it wasn't going away. When I looked through the microscope, I confirmed that it wasn't your usual two-spotted mite and that the treatment I was doing was not going to kill them. It allowed me to switch gears, choose a beneficial mite instead, and problem solved! Love your humour btw. Thank you for sharing it all with us!
My dad used to joke that my mom would put plants outside (when clearly they wouldn't like that, despite her rationalizing it to us) to "teach them a lesson" I did it today with the only plant I have (I have a lot) that I CANNOT rid of spider mites. I did All The Things! It seemed clear for like 6 months but fortunately I never let this a**hole out of quarantine because they were visible again today. Gen pop remains unscathed. Meyer lemon tree plant, given to me as a gift, fwiw. We become versions of our parents, I guess 🤷🏼♀️
I finally got some on my ivies and usually a shower, wipe down with super insecticidal soap, followed by neem/soap spray down to stem and soil 1-2x a week for 2-3x weeks works for me. But just bought diatomaceous earth for my mealy issue on one lone china doll.
Quick question for you. When you received the plants I thought you added in the "fairy dust" to prevent pests. What pests does it prevent if not spider mites?
Systemic granules (aka fairy dust) is good for things like gnats and mealy bugs, but it’s been documented that it can actually EXACERBATE spider mite populations. So I always check my plants for mites before applying systemic because I don’t want to get rid of one pest and then be stuck with another
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow this is great info thanks for sharing. I got a microscope and just realized what the stand is for. Holding it in my hand causes too much movement so I'll definitely have to try with the stand, lol.
I live in a semi-tropical area and have my plants outside bathing in this spring weather and we had a storm come through...I go outside and seen the webs..grrrh! I have a big job ahead of me!
my little brother has one of those bikes the bee one and the week broke and my dad got heavy duty weels from the hard ware store now we can all ride it😂😂
My heart always panics when I see plant pests 😩😩😩 Luckily, they are much easier to treat now that I’ve gone soilless - I can plop them in the shower with no mess from dirt 😅
The neem and Castile soap combo is effective against the spider mites! You can also water it into the soil as well. I use the DE powder as a preventive measure on the soil
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow no! That’s not good! I’m a mum as well (I have 3) and if a plant is relatively available/reasonably priced, I’ll usually replace it. If it’s rare or has sentimental value, I’m afraid I’m bad and I get the systemic out and quarantine it to my bedroom until all the bugs have been gone for a month. It’s controversial, but I also have a condition called EDS that saps my energy, so my spoons don’t allow for fussy, spider coated plants 😆
OMG! This came at the perfect time, thank you!! I just started my plant journey and already have to deal with these buggers 🥲 - will be trying your method to get rid of them! (Question: What are your thoughts on Safer’s insecticide?)

My 12 year old self never thought I'd watch a video of a plant taking a bath for entertainment, but here we are...
Here we are. Welcome to the crazy 😂
Simple pleasures!

YAY! Success story
I can not get rid of the spider mites. They just keep coming back.
@@amberfrazier575I used a systemic. Might work for you too if you’re willing to use that type of pesticides in your house.
@@lisatoyne417 I use the Bonide I just have to keep it in the plants system as soon as it wears off they come right back. 😭

LOL omg he asked so many more times. I just included a few 😂😂😂. You probably dodged a “pew pew” by not having a Calathea.
I so love your content and humor!!! You get those nasty nasty mites.... Long live the fight!!!

Aaahhh you got longer videos here!! yesssss! i love your videos 🤭🥰

Scale, aphids, mealies, gnats
Can you please do a root rot video! Uggg. What did I do wrong?

I will take spider mites over thrips any day of the week! 🤣

I’m surprised you haven’t gotten an ultrasound machine for all those corms, considering how often you’ve become a grandma 👵🏻😂😂😂

I’ve had stromanthe trio star for years and no spider mites (mine is in pon). I bet this came from the white fusion
