I am not one of those bigger gaming website no 2 minute reviews here only details. Videogame reviews all the time. So if you are tired of short reviews, ones that don't discuss all the game, this is the right place. No big website 2 minute stuff here.

About 20-25 hours and while not bad it needs some fixes before its ready for prime time. Also PEOPLE Would love for you to come by Patreon. UA-cam simply isn't working now and patreon helps me continue to make reviews and buy the games myself and all that! ua-cam.com/video/oRNrli3XezM/v-deo.html

Thanks for this Karak (I don't know how to spell your name), Your probably the only reviewer who caught on to the Yellow King Gang via The King in Yellow reference and probably know that HP Lovecrafts The Shadow over Innsmouth is kinda a backstory to this at least the fish people. One Reviewer only knew of Cthulhu as a Monster. Love your videos and honestly I have followed you even before your bat signal..LOL. Is there any way I can chat with you to ask for some reviews dealing with the military. I am an ex soldier (picture with DogMeat as my profile), Im currently homeless due to back surgeries but have a degree and will be back in the saddle working sooner than later (praying), so I'll be able to pay you some money since I will be making about $70K. Nut I have some awesome requests...at least I think. God Bless and hope you can reply. PS I don't know how to use discord...basically email, FB, and UA-cam...I was a medic but not good at tech LOL :(
I got it all ready it came out today
Got it for xbox one
I like it so far came out today
at this time not really. Its the major source of keeping the channel going
the fact that you cover the mission objective to avoid any kind of spoiler shows that you are the best videogame reviewer out there. Never change Karak
I've always appreciated how in depth your reviews are for any game, just honesty, to the point - Thank You again Karek for what you do and as always keep up the amazing work !
Thanks man. If you like the stuiff maybe check out patreon and discord. No lie youtube is not cutting it and patreon helps

Man, you're a trooper. Putting in the time to bring us reviews that aren't two minutes long or filled with sponsored bullcrap.
This is obviously based on the story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" where this outsider goes to investigate (something) a town that's decrepit and nearly underwater and full of fish-like people. It's widely considered one of Lovecraft's greatest. While they nailed some things like the fish people and the look of the city, and I'll certainly play it at some point, at $60 it's a 'wait for sale'. Thanks so much for reviewing this Karak 👍
Yup. It's Lovecraft inspired.
Dark Corners of the Earth also had your character commit suicide if your sanity got too low. Makes sense it would return here.
If your insanity is too high so protagonist commits suicide?
I'm getting Fahrenheit vibes here 🤔
Lovecraft's Untold Stories has a nice insanity mechanic too. Underrated game imo.
@Zipgun TV wtf is wrong with you
@Zipgun TV you called someone a idiot... Cause they spelled something wrong... Don't have kids
Zipgun TV No, they used the right word. Your sanity is your ability to keep a firm grasp on reality. Hence why, when low, your character goes nuts.
Sanity is the opposite of insanity. Low sanity = high insanity
I think games don't lend themselves very well to Lovecraftian horror, as you will almost always retain some level of control. However scale is something which games do have going for them, games like DS and Bloodborne use this very well. I think a lovecraftian VR title could make for an interesting experience.
Felix
Void horror or the fear of voids in video games called kenophobia.
It’s to anyone who has it like me it’s really terrifying sometimes.
I think you kinda can say it’s cosmic horror in some way.
To fear the abyss and the unknown of falling to it.
I think Amnesia is the best and most true to form Lovecraftian style horror game made. I think video games can do it justice, It just needs to be ultra focused and probably keep to a small more personal scale.
Agreed, lovecraft was a master at cosmic horror. Horror that wasn't scary because the immensely detailed descriptions he gave of the monster but rather because what he left to the imagination. I mean one of the scary things In his stories are fungus...that doesn't play well with ultra realistic graphics yet it's horrifying when left in the readers mind.
Bloodborne is the best Lovecraft inspired game that I've ever played
Bloodborne is the obvious and greatest choice but one no one has mention, wont be everyones kinda game but used aspects of cosmic horror really well....
Darkest Dungeon. Picked it up for under 10 in a ps sale with all the dlc and it's inventive with the use of how you use the light and how your team members react to mental stress. Can become paranoid and start attacking team mates randomly or believe they deserve punishment and force there way to the front line hoping to be hit. The lack of them following orders ajd doing unexpected things once there psyche has broke is really interesting.
The different voice actors reminds me of Fallout New Vegas's "Lateer"
*memories of oliver swanick*
7:11 Why does the main character sound like a bad impersonation of Raycevick?
Deioth
He’s Jack Walters.
Oh shit
Sounds all too familiar
Lovecraftian themed games always pique my interest... but dat running animation is whack 😂
Twist; The MC is mind swapped with an Old One
But...but...that is EXACTLY how I run in real
Vampyr is on sale right now on the PS store. Highly recommend that game. 👍
It was an ok game it gets pretty boring at times
Same, i loved it
I didnt like it.
Got it a week ago. It's fantastic.
That scene when you investigate the crimes of the past with the handprints completely covering the walls actually forced me to look away. It’s the fish eye effect from the Witcher 3 dialed up to fifty, and makes me feel like my eyes are gonna explode.
Really want this to be a good experience so I'll wait for a few patches and a drop in price
When I first saw the title, I didn't think you can make a lovecraftian world with a detective as it's main character, since the whole cuthulu/eldergod mythos heavily relies on mystery. I saw the first hour of gameplay, and I honestly think they might have done it. Well, at least I hope they did, we will see :D
this was a day one buy for me in till they sold out to Epic, now ill likely forget it exist by the time its on steam
S R I mean they could’ve gotten with Steam to sell. Now they’re going to be missing out on revenue from the first year because no one wants to buy something off a shitty company.
Support the Monopoly that doesn't give a shit about you.
Thanks for the review. I get all my Epic exclusives from TPB, so the low quality isn't really an issue.
OMG 30 mins ago I got sad because there 2 more days until release so no reviews and BOOM, Karak's here. Thanks man, on point as always
I like that ya blur the mission details as to not spoil for us. Noice touch.
tl/dr: Wait for it to be released on Steam.
Exactly the same thought when I heard that it was an Epic Exclusive.
Loved the review as always, and cannot wait to pick it up! Been waiting a long time for this one. Thanks for all of the effort, time and hard work that you put into your reviews. They're always a treat.
However, funny aside, in Bethesda's and Ubisofts earlier days, they put out a game called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. And if you let your character go insane, or didn't really pay attention to it, he would literally put the gun up to his temple, shoot himself, and then you'd have to start from your last save. So not the first game to do it, but SO glad they included it.
Gamespot gave this game a 3/10. Which is insane, every other game reviewer gave it a 7 or 8.
No steam no buy
PepsiWithCoke yep same
The game will come to Steam in 2020.
Blind loyalty yummy
Frogwares fan. Will definitely pick this up.
Wanted to get this for PC but I won't support Epic exclusives, so I guess I'll get this for PS4
You’re still supporting Epic buy giving these shills money
I won’t be buying it period, I won’t support companies that tell the gamer to go fuck himself.
Gwynbleidd Roach Epic told you that? I’m so sorry
@@radarphaser Not really, it all depends on how they licensed Unreal 4, Epic may not get a cut of sales but got an upfront payment. So buying it on PS4 doesn't support epic specifically.
They definitely get a cut of sales on the Epic Store. If there are no sales for the PC port it'll still give a clear message to the publishers about the exclusivity practice.
Buying it on console is a way to still support the developers and these types of games. No sales at all won't be blamed on Epic, it will be blamed on the game itself
I'm definitely picking this on the ps4 as well. This game is right up my alley.
I read about this game a couple of times never really into lovecraft. But after seeing multiple videos around this game and twitch streams. I'm really into this clunky atmospheric game with a big and beautiful open world were everything looks handcrafted! I'm definitely buying this when it's on sale.
Looks pretty jank, i think i'll wait a bit, especially with the EGS exclusivity
maybe i'll pick it up on a deep sale 3-4 years from now
LMAO!you know damn well in 3 or 4 years some games arent even available..i can see waiting for a couple patches to fix some issues..wating 3 or 4 years for a game I wanna play is like torture for me not to mention the game back log after that much time has passed..but if you have that longevity power to you.just dont get it in 4 years and say "the graphics are bad" cause you now have a ps5.hehe
I love how you assume you’re just gong to live that long. Life is too short man
@@MohamedHassan-xe7oe but long enough to enjoy what you want. You dont need to rush to everything.
Dark-Sol all I’m saying is don’t assume you’ll be here in 3 and 4 years. A lot can happen in that time
Mohamed Hassan Lol let people do what they want
best reviewer on youtube hands down
11:00: that laugh :)
That's what I felt like this one was a wait for a sale. Thanks for confirming that! 👍
What a positive surprise. Beyond what I expected
It's like they used the RAGE engine for weather, lighting, and textures, the GameBryo engine for movement animations, camera, navmesh and spawn points for NPCs, and everything else, but actually used Unreal for everything?! D:
Seems pretty neat though. I _love_ Lovecraftian lore. I also came here because I saw it on the Xbone store and was curious about what might warrant that price.
Cheers for the review Karak. Was really looking forward to this one. Definitely going to pass on it now, as the issues you outlined would bother the hell out of me. It's funny you compared it to Vampyre as i'm currently playing that now on Gamepass (PC) and loving it. Had watched your review of it and was super interested, so glad to be getting around to playing it.
you bet
Just gonna give a 'hell yes' to any Walking The Walk videos you choose to do, those are the best.
Epic exklusive. ..so its the wait or pirate option of course
I'ts not pirating, it's surprise quality control
If you do decide to torrent it, I'd wait a couple weeks or months first. These guys always have a ton of patches they put out for their games after launch.
Came out on the 25th by the way.. today.. 27th fell on a thurs.. and never have seen a thurs drop
I don't know man, I played this for 3 or 4 hours, late at night, and I like it a lot so far. I get that kind of Silent Hill feel where monsters legit creep you out just by the sounds they make before you even see them. I also really love the fact that you get an aspect of having to place the side quests on the map, then being forced to find them, it gives you an added sense of accomplishment that you were able to find them, instead of just a bunch of crap loading up on your map. I also believe that the illogical sense of the NPC's are not a problem when the entire point of this place is the fact that everyone's losing their sanity. I, personally, am not a Lovecraft fan (though my gf is), but I have found myself enjoying the experience. It is definitely a more heavy game, so if you're looking for something light and fun this is definitely not the game you want.
yep same way I felt after only a couple hours
I enjoyed my time with call of Cthulhu... It was a subpar experience with very stupid design decisions and horrible pacing and it was just a lackluster technical mess... But I enjoyed. What I'm sad about is the fact that I love 6-12 hours linear experiences and I always comeback to them every semester and that call of Cthulhu... I don't want to play ever again because I'm well aware that I forced myself to enjoy that experience... I'm hoping to hell that this one delivers a satisfying experience and your review helped me get my bearings... Thanks for the great work, here's hoping the overall experience doesn't suck...
I appreciate that blurry mission task 😍 zero spoiler
Well done 👍
Just let everybody know the Xbox store has the goty version of the game for $18 and change base game is 15 bucks
Now I want a settings tab in a game thats titled STUFF
The different voice actors remind me of the glory days with VtM: Bloodlines.
This reminds me so much of Discworld Noir for PSX. Another great old game
The game sounds so absolutely amazing, I hope they can fix it up a bit. I can't wait to get my hands on the story editing tools that let you write quests for other players.
I love Frogwares. I've played every game they made since 2004. Can't wait to play this gem!
Me too but I wont get it on pc because epic ..also i dont play frogware on console ..so i wait
Is it weird that I watch these reviews despite having no interest in the game just because I think the reviews are so good?
Please be good please be good please be good
Looks like i'll get this down the line when it's been patched up and optimized
Apparently there have been quite a few patches of you wanna go check out the patch notes.
Man I *really* hope it looks this good on ps4 pro. Loved Vampyr, Call of Cthulu was disorienting/nauseating motion blur, so I'd love a good mystery type of game. LA Noire whet that appetite recently
It releases on switch too
I might wait for the sale anyway because I don’t want to spend $60 dollars right now, if it were 40 or lower it would be a different story.
Epic aye? Well that's that. Moving on, another title to skip over.
pack up bois we'll get em next time
same
It's a shame too. The games these guys make may be slightly jank/middle market, but they all have an undeniable charm that you can't really find anywhere else.
But all the charm in the world isn't worth having anti consumer Chinese spyware installed on my PC.
@@gnarkillguch I am genuinely surprised that an indy studio from eastern Europe would sign an exclusivity deal with Epic that effectively holds their game hostage on a crappy platform. You'd think these guys would be more in touch with their PC base, but I guess not
@@davidd.6448
1) The game was made on Unreal Engine which is owned by Epic and the developers don't have to pay royalties if they go with Epic Store.
2) They get payed upfront before the game's release for the exclusivity deal which can be especially beneficial for indie developers if they are running out of money towards the end of development.
3) Epic store by default has much better revenue share for devs than Steam.
So yeah even though they lose sales on people who are forever determined to buy games through Valve, the massive benefits of going with Epic store for indie developers outweighs that.
Definitely on my list to buy however it looks like its going to need some updates in the meantime. I can wait.
Funny, I was waiting for Vampyr to get even cheaper, then Call of Cthulhu and was actually going to pay full for this. Think I’ll wait awhile until they patch it and it goes on sale as suggested.
I really really want Walking The Walk on RDR 2
Thank you for the review!
I can tell you still loved this game. I appreciate the honest review
Hmmmm I might try this out, this looks pretty cool and creepy. I’m actually interested.
Always there for me Karak, thanks so much for this timely review
Another great review, Karak!!! 👍👍👍👍
Check "The Shadow over Insmouth" on Spotify. This game has so many callbacks from this :)
What?
I need this badboy 😇 cheers for the review brah 😀👍
Tbf was pretty hype for this game. Will get it on Xbox when it goes down a bit. Thanks again ACG! Keep up the great work 😁
no gog or steam no buy
If anyone likes HP Lovecraft, watch the movie AM1200. Quick short movie around 45 minutes that hits upon HP Lovecraft greatly. Also, I want to buy this game, but if it's an Epic Exclusive, hard pass.
EPIC store PC exclusive...pass. Thanks though!
epic store exclusive . . .
well I guess that answers that then
I actually loved Vampyr 👌👍
LOL Epic Exclusive no wonder I never heard about it:P
Bloodborne is the best lovecraftian game.
Agreed
Tom Maverick best game inspired in lovecraft, not based on
@Kiezer Soze Hehe. Indeed.
Man on fish luvin'. I'm in. A walking the walk is always appreciated. Either this or Judgment would be cool. Different games, but lots to cover.
You forgot the best Lovecraftian work not done by Lovecraft himself. Bloodborne.
Given rating: Wait for a saleActual rating: Wait for a Steam
I'll wait a couple of years until Steam has a sale on it. Epic Games needs to implement a ton of features into their launcher and assure me that they deserve my trust that my private information is safe with them. I don't want their free hand outs, I want a quality, consumer-friendly service. Epic Games, you can start by getting rid of always online, so I can play on my laptop and not need an internet connection. You're welcome
I actually liked the Call Of Cthulhu game, yeah it wasn’t action oriented but it was creepy and had a atmosphere that this game didn’t replicate.
60 bucks?
Would have gone better at 49
TLDR: Releases on Epic, not Steam.
I vote with my wallet, so hard pass.
Looks like the studio did not want their work on Call of Cthulhu to go to waste, so they mashed together this game, which....fine, but 60 dollars? Some balls.
That place must have a mold problem
lost me at "comes to Epic!"
Also coming to Switch.
Budget looking AF. I wouldn’t pay more than $20 USD total for this game, brand new. 🤷🏻♂️
Pokemon Sword and Shield look just as low budget and janky. That doesn't speak to the gameplay in any case.
I agree that it doesn't look the best, but at a 40$ difference I think your standards are a little high.
I'm guessing you've never played Deadly Premonition?
defeatereater Played it, hated it. Alan Wake is much better. 🤷🏻♂️
@@RenegadeBastard See I'm actually curious, did you play Alan Wake when it came out? I tried to play both Alan Wake and Quantum Break and I honestly couldn't get into either game. I really wanna play Control but thus far Remedy's storytelling style doesn't do it for me. Although I don't see how Alan Wake and Deadly Premonition are at all similar but hey, to each their own

The 90's called, they want their "____ called" joke back.
This is the first time I heard that it was Epic Exclusive. I was confused why people were getting this game and the steam release was for 2020. I understand now

The visual aesthetic here reminds me a lot of Fallout 4's Far Harbor
paytoncntrll7 You got that right. Most of Lovecraft’s work is set in Northeastern Massachusetts. As for Far Harbor... that’s Maine. But it’s very similar in its architecture. Maine was once part of Massachusetts.
@paytoncntrll7 Withiut a doubt the strongest parts of Bethesda games is their world and exploration. Exploring and looting places is really the only part of fallout 4 that didnt disappoint me.
Bethesda did put a lot of Lovecraftian references in Fallout 4 in general.
Sectric Fallout 4 had much more than just Looting and Exploring. The Gun play was Sooooo much better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Building Settlements which was very in-depth as far as what you can create. The customization of your settlers and AI partners. Just Exploration and Looting was the only non disappointment?? Did you even play the Freaking game??
