    What a great review, thank you! A Mean Green stander is definitely in my future. I appreciate your three-year experience with one so far, and noting how they're built like tanks. I also love the idea of modular repairs, where, if needed, you could simply swap out the electric motors or other parts. I never considered that advantage over ICE mowers. 💯⭐⭐⭐⭐

    I saw a unit like this during some recent survey work. Is the 635 number on the battery / hour meter when it first flashed the number of hours OR key cycles? The unit I saw flashed 380, then when it settled on the battery status screen about 1-2 seconds later it said 0280 1 in the upper left... which I assumed was the hours (280.1hrs). Typically hour meters have a 1/10 of a hour, which would be consistent with the 280.1 I figured was "hours", and there would be no need for a 1/10 of a key cycle. Do you know?

    • @QuietLawn

      Hey Greg, their new units might be different, but mine flashes the hours as soon as you turn it on and then it goes away. It only shows whole hours and no decimals.

      Hi Lorenzo,
      They would do fine as they have comparable power to gas mowers. As I've said in another video though, you're probably not going to spend $18k on a mower to mow hay fields and most people will look for a better clientele. Good luck.

    It seems like the majority of 48" commercial mowers these days have anti scalp rollers on the front left and right edges of the deck. Have you ever wished the Tracker had more rollers in addition to the two is the middle. Even the two in the middle look small compared to other commercial machines that I have seen.

    We are looking at starting an electric lawn care division. Really appreciate this review. Question: In regard to quoting do feel like you are able to get a better rate than a standard gas operation? Or do you still have to compete with their pricing models.

    • @QuietLawn

      I would say no in our market. We price competitively with other quality lawn services. However, our customers really do appreciate how much quieter and less intrusive our equipment is once they sign up. But, if you're in a market where being eco friendly and going green is very popular, I'm sure you could.

    The 9000 hours is if you full charge and full discharge. If you don't fully cycle the batteries the life will be longer. The batteries don't just die at 9000 or even 10,000 hours. 9000 hour is how long it will last until it gets to 60% - 80% capacity, This how manufacturers rate batteries.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  5 років тому +2

      Wow! That's great to know. Thank you very much. Unfortunately, we will be running them almost empty each day. But, I would be very happy to get anywhere close to 9000 hours.

      @@QuietLawn I’m not sure how true that claim is but you should charge them between 20-80% if possible. Some Li-IONs are different and the receiving device can handle the overcharging differently as well. As a general rule you don’t want to charge to 100% or below 20% as it causes stress to the battery. Most devices now are not damaged with trickle charging if you do go to 100% but going to 0% may be an issue. I think that’s why the system tells you when you are getting to 25%, so if you are recharging before that it’s likely not causing much wear

  • @aaronbounds1336
    @aaronbounds1336 5 років тому +7

    I would be very curious to hear a review in the much longer term for this series of products. It is my understanding that the 8,000 - 9,000 hour life of the batteries is a little bit misleading at first. I read on the website recently that they are guaranteed to retain 90% of their charge capacity at 8,000 or 9,000 hours. So, it's not like they are going to have to be replaced at 8,000 or 9000 hours because they do not work anymore but rather they will still work just about the same as when they were brand new. And if my back of the envelope math is correct: 3 mowing seasons at just over 200 hours per season, you could retire on the same battery pack that came with the machine when it was brand new. Is that right? 200 hours per season divided into 8,000 hours = 40 seasons. And if it is true that they will retain 90% original charge capacity at 8K hours, you're golden. Looks like your done buying gas, forever. Looks like your done taking time out of your day to go get gas and then gas up allof the different machines you operate and all of the headaches of all of the maintenance related to gasoline in internal combustion engines. Sweet 👍.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching Aaron. Yes, I'll be very pleased for getting anywhere close to 9000 hours as most gas mowers never see 2000. And, I'd say the average hours per season with s full schedule is more like 500-750. If you're a solo operator, 200 is probably average.

    I own a lawn business and I'm always looking to cut cost.. I wanna get one but that pricetag scares me.. I had a nice Toro Titan 1500 that worked great for years until I bought a new Toro z master 4000.. the titan was like 5k and my new z master was $10k 😲.. I am struggling to bring myself to plunk down $20k or more for a mower.. I know it will save me money, time, hassle in the long run but damn.. I wish more manufacturers would get into making these so we could bring the prices down to somewhere near reasonable.. like if I could get one for $10k I'd be willing.. same with trucks.. I'm spending so much on gas and maintenance for my 2015 Chevy Silverado.. I wanna get an electric Silverado.. would save SOOO much on maintenance.. you think mowers are expensive to maintain.. trucks are way more.. it's up to $100 from r an oil change now.. if I could get an electric truck and one if these green machines
    .. I'd be saving money and the environment all at once.. I got a lot to think about.. GAS or 🔋.. I just dont know .. I just don't know 🙇

      I find this interesting… there are dealers up in Canada that have them as well now. It can be upwards of $32K CDN for the industrial package but even the walk-behind is $13K. Now that’s a lot for any mower but realistically $13K-$27K CDN ($10K-$20.5K USD) is the range for a Contractor package, i.e. the ZTR would come with just 2 batteries (not 3) and a charger.
      It’s a strong commercial grade Battery-Powered package that’s for sure, but I can’t imagine it is affordable for most businesses. Unless you have a lot of large commercial properties and you need to replace your gas equipment anyway. Gas is getting to be more cost efficient, for residential Battery-Powered mowers last 3 years, I can’t imagine getting more than a year out of them for commercial use.
      These machines look like quality machines capable of replacing gas, let’s say you can get 20 years out of them, that’s still $1,000 per year. I can buy a similar gas product for around $5K, in 5 years I would guess that it would need maintenance and keep on going. For these Battery-Powered ones there are a lot of electrical components that could short out or require replacement, I’m guessing the battery replacement is around the $2K-$3K amount.
      So will Lawn Pros keep replacing those batteries and electrical components? Will they really get 20 years of no maintenance? I understand the short-term ROI, but what about the long-term ROI?

    I want to go electric for all of my lawn/yard equipment, but for some reason (that only my wife knows), she's trying to talk me out of it, even though I've told her all the advantages of electric. I was looking at the Ryobi zero turn electric riding mower, but seeing this Mean Green stander is making my decision tougher. From what I'm seeing and hearing you say in this video, the Ryobi is about 100 lbs lighter. Other than that, I don't see any other advantages.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  4 роки тому +1

      The Mean Green will definitely be on another level. The Ryobi is made for homeowners and won't have much of a run time or be built like a commercial mower. But, you have to start where you are able. That's great you're considering it. You can always start simple with an Ego push mower and handheld equipment.

      If your just using for your home stick with the ryobi, commercial go mean green. Ryobi zero turn with 100ah batteries is 4000+ were the mean green like the one in the vid is 17000+.

    For what they cost I can buy a fleet of Gas equipment. I checked on them. I can't justify the cost. verses benefit...I like the epic duck tape on the front spindle of this high quality machine.

    Looks like a great mower, but serious investment even for a small business.

    Just wish they would come out with a 30" standon. 48" with huge backyards and small gates don't work for me.

      I definitely agree. Or a 36"

      @@QuietLawn 36" is great, but if you want to stand out NO ONE has a 30" standon. It will go through narrow gates.

    The cut quality is not that good as far as striping.

      Luckily there is no such thing as striping with warm season grasses in the south.

    How coincidentally convenient for them that there yet to be a review of their mowers cutting tall or overgrown grass. There's a reason gas mowers are king.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  3 роки тому

      There are videos and they cut just fine in tall grass. However, if you're mowing hay fields all day, I would buy the cheapest mower you can as you're going to be hitting lots of surprises and replacing blades and spindles often. That's not good for any mower. We focus on customers who want to keep their properties maintained regularly. I'm not going to tear up my $17k mower or even a $10k gas mower on properties like that. Get the right clientele and you won't need a mower that can cut grass like that.
