    I would love a response. We maintain 200ish residential properties. Our average lawn is around 4200 square feet, so small. I am considering switch to all electric handheld equipment. Can you tell us what you're finding as far as battery run time? Do you use stick edgers? How many times are you changing batteries? Are all your batteries 7.5, or what size are you using? How often are you changing batteries in your trimmer? How often are you changing batteries in your blower? I would love your input. We currently run Stihl 111 trimmers and edgers. We gas up at the start of the day and once around noon and we are good to go. I am wondering If battery powered equipment is similar, or if it needs to be changed a lot more often. Thanks so much!

    The ego commercial system seems to have missed the mark with most professional users. The next commercial revision will be the one to watch for. They really need to stop copying and start leading, the ball is 100% in their court. I use EGO non commercial equipment and have done some small scale lawn maintenance reviews on what I like and don't like but at no point did I have any aspirations of switching to their commercial line... so that is some food for thought. Very good review!

    I see you have added an extra handle to the multihead, can you tell me more about it. I find the standard grip quite uncomfortable, especially holding down the two stage trigger mechanism.

    The commercial blower does indeed have a turbo button like the rest of the Ego blowers. That button on top has a dual purpose. With a quick press and release it cycles through four levels of max power (with the trigger being variable up to the chosen limit), and if you hold it down you get turbo.

    The Ego multi head with hedge trimmer attachment was the first Ego product I bought. I agree with your assememt, I've done 100's of hours on it, even in pouring rain, and I've had zero issues!
    On the other hand the Ego 650 CFM blower I have is on its third warranty replacement in 6 months...

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  2 роки тому

      Nice! Yes, they are solid. We've had one power head go out in 5 years. I did have one 650 cfm blower dead on arrival, but luckily haven't had any issues with the other two in the past year or two.

      @@QuietLawn That's good to hear.
      My 650's died after being used in light rain. I live in Vancouver where is rains 6 months out of the year. I'm worried that now my third 650 will yet again, die if I use it in the rain.
      I'm wondering, does the commerical blower work better in rain? Does it have a better IPX rating? I know the 650 is IPX4.
      I also have the 530 blower that I usually use when it rains...so far no issues. I just don't like the trigger and speed adjustment knob on it though, so I'm never happy during rainy work days!

      @@charleskarpiuk7330 I'm not sure about the rating on the commercial blower. We only used it one day and I wasn't impressed. I have had one of their mowers out in the pouring rain with no issues. Never used the blower in rain though

      @@QuietLawn Update: my multi head died last week. Using the hedge trimmer on a cool sunny day, and I heard a clunk, and it stopped working. It's in for warranty repair.
      I didn't realize until now, but EGO only offerd one year warranty when their products are used for a business.
      So this multi head broke after a six months. But I will say I easily put more than 200 hours on it.... Sometimes in the pouring rain.
      But still, I am a little worried what happens after one year with all my EGO products now.
      I'm considering to start moving towards buying Husqvarna's battery tools.

      I've used the non-backpack ego version for years, when they got new batteries, it was plug and play. I cleared heavy underbrush of an uncleared 1/4 acre of land for about an hour. In 5 years i've not had a mechanical failure or battery fail.

  • @MichaelSmith-xb5cp
    @MichaelSmith-xb5cp 4 роки тому +1

    You mentioned you already had to replace one battery. Now i don't know how much gas commercial guys go through on a daily basis for just string trimmers edgers and blowers, but if they are running the small 4 strokes it cant be a lot can it? (I'm not talking about the large lawnmowers, just the smaller hand tools) I know as a homeowner, even in my 2 strokes that I have to be careful not to put too much in because the fuel will go bad before I can use it all. I assume that's not a problem for commercial guys who use the equipment multiple times daily. That backpack sells for $1300 and they claim it's good for 1000 charges. One recharge every night and that would be about 3 years...It would also be $1.30 per charge before the cost of the grid electricity...that would buy a lot of gas. The problem with gas is maintenance and wear, so I suppose you eliminate some of that, but even electrics have wear and consumables. Have you truly crunched the numbers? Will the battery deliver as much juice on the 750th charge as the first charge? These all seem like a mystery and I don't think you've recharged that backpack 1000 times yet. This stuff is still relatively new. How about an update?

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Michael,
      Thanks for watching. We only demoed this system and I have another video talking about why I don't like battery backpack systems and prefer the smaller batteries on the equipment instead. But, to address some of your points, your example assumes someone is using it 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The reality is probably half of that at most making the battery life more like 5-7 years. I've had batteries from my previous backpack system for over 4 years and they still work great. During that same time, I would've spent a significant amount of money maintaining, repairing, and fueling gas equipment. I also would've paid a lot of labor to have my guys do that maintenance or make many more stops at the gas station. But, cost and whether or not it's cheaper overall is not the only reason I now use electric equipment. I spend almost zero time on maintenance and the equipment almost never breaks. They are much simpler and there's less to go wrong. Also, the other benefits like not having to wear ear plugs, smell fumes, worry about spills, etc are nice. Hope that helps. Good luck.

    • @MichaelSmith-xb5cp

      @@QuietLawn Well glad to hear it's working out for you, I'm still not sold though. I have a Tanaka edger that must be pushing 20 years. It's really meant to be an edge reestablishment tool instead of a replacement for a stick edger, but I use it as my main edger because I may only use it a dozen or two times a year. I put that canned gas in it and I've never had a problem starting it (even if the fuel is seasoned) Maintenance has been zero except for two blades.and I've had it for 15 years and it cost me less than $300 (currently that includes 15 years worth of fuel and blades). I really don't see how electric could be cheaper and easier for my situation, It uses so little and the fuel cost is so low it's negligible that it costs anything at all. I've had corded electric edgers before, but they don't come near to the power ease and freedom of the gas one. I'm assuming these modern cordless take care of those 3 issues but I'm not near sold about the (overall) cost over time issue.

    I cant speak to this manufacturer specifically, but "the commercial" isn't a good description.
    I know Ego+ has at least 3 varieties of batteries, 2 backpack power supplies and at least 3 "trimmers"
    "The commercial variety" could be construed by the layman as half their products falling into this category, all components included. So, maybe _specify_ exactly what equipment you're talking about (both what you're reviewing and what you're comparing against. Your intro is basically as valid as "comparing a Ford vs a Ford but leaving out that you're comparing a Ford Fiesta vs. a Ford F-350"
    For a comparison review, _always_ specify what you are using as the benchmark.
    1. What am I reviewing?
    2. What am I comparing it to?
    3. What are the points someone is going to want to know?
    4. What are my findings?

      TBH not all of their products are better than the gas powered versions. I wouldn't stack up a stihl chainsaw against an ego chainsaw, i've used both and used stihl most of my life. Ego's battery chainsaw has a lot of improving to do, one of those being a heavier bar and heavier chain (you can't do that with Ego but you can with a Stihl gas power), Ego's chainsaw chain is for very light use at best. It won't outlast a stihl chain.
      Their hedge trimmer was decent and did manage to keep me from frowning but it's not as good as i'd like.
      The units that impress me most from Ego are the push mower and the string trimmer.

      @@Enonymouse_ the carbon fiber shaft string trimmer with the power load feature was my first ego tool. I bought that and the 18” chainsaw. I’ll never buy another gas weed eater but I agree with the chainsaw. It’s not comparable to a sthil or husquivarna as far power and performance. Definitely not what I would recommend for someone cutting firewood for a living. It’s just not as fast cutting but for use around my house, cleaning up my property and trees downed by storms it works great for me. I like not having to pull the ease of use and virtually no maintenance other than the tightening the chain which I feel gets a little to tight and bar oil and just cleaning it up after using it

    There is one huge con that EGO products have compared to some other brands out there, and that is the price of their batteries. It's ridiculous. I use the Makita battery powered hedge trimmer, blower and a pole saw. I can get a 5Ah battery for like 50$. On the other hand EGO 2.5Ah battery, (that's half the capacity), cost 130-150$. Plus you can use the Makita batteries on all of your other tools, from drills to drivers to saws to impact wrenches. Sorry EGO, I really think you make great commercial grade tools but until you can offer competitive battery prices, you guys won't go far.
