EXCLUSIVE TO AUSTRALIA!
Featuring the formidable comedic talents of John Clarke (Fred Dagg, Death in Brunswick), Gina Riley, Bryan Dawe and Ross Stevenson, this hit ABC comedy series is a deadpan, surreal and highly satirical look at bureaucrats in the throws of organising the extravaganza that will be the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. A classic parody of Australian bureaucratic culture, our bungling committee - with comic legend John Clarke at the helm - have to deal with a 100 metres running track that is several metres short of the mark over zealous sponsorship opportunities from tobacco companies and a sex-change athlete - do they run in the men's or women's events? John Clarke brilliantly plays the prickly team leader, prone to bone-dry quips, dirty tricks and scathing remarks Gina Riley is the acerbic head of Games PR while Bryan Dawe plays the quietly flustered money man with his eyes on the bottom line.
There will never be someone who could do deadpan sarcasm as well as John Clarke.
This series is absolutely phenomenal
It's a shame John Clarke isn't still with us to have another crack at this for the Brisbane Games.
An if look back home, he might see a perfect target - er - subject in Christopher Luxon.
Utopia might have a crack at it
@@paulorocky I feel like Utopia is the spiritual successor to The Games. I’m hoping they move the series north and do the Brisbane games.
I hope they make a series. 32 years later. Wow. I loved this show as a teenager.
@@MadMasterNeil Yeah, still one of my favourites too... Utopia has much the same feel, I hope they do a Utopia series where they take the crew north to work on the Brisbane Games. It'd be a worthy successor to the original series.
A long necked waddle for peace, kills me every time.
Would love to see this series again.
Brian became the 100m world champion when he tested out the track.
Everyone knows the 100m track is 94 metres in length. It's a standard.
'We've got the NSW junior champs this weekend. The under 15s are gonna break the world record'
He'll be sorely missed.
2 seasons of this in the 2 years leading up to the 2000 Olimpics. Many great episodes - Dead IOC officials, con-men and the Government interfering with matters. Guest stars aplenty as well as many great local talents. This is only the first half/third of the 100m fiasco.
I always remembered the discussion about doping and how the minister might want to consider NOT cracking down on it too much lest no records got broken🤣
Got to get this sorted before the NSW schools tournament or someone will break a world record
This excerpt cuts off the scene part way through, just as it's getting funny.
"I want to hear you say it" That was the gold line of the scene.
@@Karl-pm9hv 'Ninety four metres...'
John Clark gold
We've got two new events haven't we Mr Wilson. We've got the Men's 96 metres and the Women's 96 metres.
94 metres
RIP John
why cut off the denouement? A bit dopey! ..... ahhhh! Umbrellaent wants us to buy their product

Always had a bit of a crush on Louise Siversen
I remember this. So funny. Back when the internet was young and Australasian Broadcasting promised to release all shows on the internet. No wuckin furries mate. This is fine.
Dead builder proprietary limited
We'll say it's the "100 yard track" and the rest fell off.
The front part, was it??
Metres.
RIP
wheres the F'n end ???????????????
Jasmine?? - ah the bliss of not knowing you're a twit. There were a few at our P&C meetings who were like that
Seriously, you cut it there???? Copyright escapism perhaps? What a waste of effing time that shows utter disrespect for comedy genius...
Exactly. Didn't even get to the best parts.
This is supposedly what Twenty Twelve ripped off? It's nothing like it.
Love this series but even they couldn’t foresee the current madness in western countries.
You can’t make satire. The governments and governing bodies are doing it themselves.
