The urge to read Stephen King now. Thanks Haley for being such an inspiration!
No one has ideas for themselves anymore…
@@9cloudrachel207 What..
a lot of his books are great! he's my favorite author but he has SO many books that, obviously, there's some misses, but overall is great
@@user-be3iu9vz4s That's cool! Do you have any specific books you could recommend?
Hi @shelby! Haley's choices are a terrific starting point! Let me suggest Lisey's Story, The Talisman (if you are into fantasy), and Mr. Mercedes. You will enjoy them a lot.
To me, the scariest book he wrote is Pet Sematary. It just touched something inside of me that made me shiver. Apparently, he agrees.
I read this as a kid when it came out and remember throwing the book when it was done, I was so scared. Its my favorite of his!
Same, I had nightmares. Still love it
That is how I felt about Salems Lot! It gave me night terrors
Ive always been terrified of rabid/evil animals so it hit me hard
I LOVE Pet Sematary it's my favourite Stephen King Book I hate the films with a passion but the book is amazing
I love how openminded you are when reading new genres. It's been so cool to see you dive in to new things. If you can handle Misery though, I think you can handle a good amount of horror out there. Misery haunts me, but people scare me more than monsters or ghosts ever will. If you want to try scary Stephen King books that have a very human element, I recommend Dolores Claiborne, Carrie, and The Stand.
Bag of Bones is a great one too.
The Stand is one of his best works, if not the best.
@@lorimeyers6305 I haven't read that yet! On my list
I think it's so fun working in a bookstore and seeing girlies come in less than a week after you drop a new reading video and buy the same books you recommended. I noticed it after your video about Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow came out because no one ever bought it then suddenly a week after your vid dropped we couldn't keep it on the shelves lol. So now I try to watch your vids right away so I know what to expect that week and because who doesn't love a good reading vlog?? Anyway, thanks for being a positive influence in the book world!
I was in a book store much later than that video but when I saw it, I was so close to picking it up because of her video. Should've just bought it, just getting into the reading habit
I got 11/22/63 after seeing this video i just HAD to read it
what is Stephan Kings latest book named?
@@lydiastevens-ackley1197 Holly is his latest book but he is coming out with a short story collection called You Like It Darker in May 21st
I would LOVE to see a part 2 to this. I’d love to see you give IT a go!!
Been a fan of the King for 30 years and it makes me happy to see young folk getting into him
He’s amazing really brings horror to life
Yess! I read The Shining at 10, in 2018, and have been hooked ever since! He writes really well:)
what is the name of Stephans Kings latest book?😊
@@lydiastevens-ackley1197 You Like it Darker
i was just told it was Holly.
i bought the noval for my 93 yr old mom to read She gave it away to the library in her building. She didnt read it & was supposed to return it. I am reading Mathew Perrys book. Now I want Kings book I bought at the sams time.
I forgot the title & am trying to get it back.. Gezz ma!
lol
btw Matt Perrys self written bio book is very good.
Thanks for the title!
hes my favorite author, his mind is insane and he can go to places some people can't. He is so fantastic, I love him and find him endlessly fascinating
I’m so glad you enjoyed 11/22/63!! I read it in 2020 when I was getting back into reading and it’s still one of my favorites I’ve ever read. And now you’ve convinced me to put billy summers at the top of my tbr!
Who loves Haley Pham when she posts or doesn't post. She is the reading queen!!!
i also love her when she doesn’t post 😉

I've been reading Stephen King for 30 years and he is, without a doubt, my favorite author! It's so cool to see people discovering his work and immediately falling in love. He definitely has some weird stuff, but also true masterpieces. Btw, you should totally read the Mr Mercedes trilogy (also known as the Bill Hodges trilogy) - it's not a horror, but a psychological thriller, an intricate game of cats and mouse. Uncle Stevie at his finest!
Hi! I know this is a pretty late reply lol but I really want to get into his horror books (I have never read a King book before) Which one would you recommend as the best horror book from him? Where should I start?
@nabeehamalik8762 Hi! I appreciate your interest in my recommendation! To me, the scariest Stephen King book is The Outsider, especially the first part, when it's just the horror of what people can do to each other. But it's a relatively recent book and it has the tie-in with the Mr Mercedes trilogy, so maybe it's best saved for later. I would start with Kujo - that was my first King book and it hooked me right away. I read it one sitting - it's not too long and once the action starts, it doesn't let go. Then I would definitely say It, although it is a long book, but it's amazing and has some truly horrifying moments. Finally, by his own admission, the scariest book to Stephen King himself is Pet Sematary, and I agree - I still remember how I read the last pages over 20 years ago and immediately after went to take out the trash... at night. Best to stay home after you finish that book, that's all I'm saying 😅 These would be my top recommendations 👏
Hi Haley!! Video Idea: Maybe you can read books that you read when you were younger!! If you do this video I really recommend “Out of My Mind” It’s such a good book!! I love your videos and how you make my day brighter :D - Thanks
Thats a really good video :)
OMG "Out of my Mind" was my absolute favorite book when I was younger!!
That would be great
One of my favorite childhood books was the entire Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
Omg I love out of my mind it was so good!
You got me into reading again Haley! Thank you for your honest opinions on books and you being you🥰
me: in a reading slump
*watches haley*
me: magically inspired to read again
Haley I was in a huge reading slump for a year up until October 2021, when I found your channel! I got myself a kindle and started binging your videos. You got me to love my favorite thing in the world again, and I’m so happy because books are so magical honestly. Thank you for always uploading, I love watching you and your husband ALL the time. Love you!!!!
Because you read Billy Summers and rated it 5 stars, I thought I'd get over my prejudices and read it myself and I absolutely loved it!
I started it today, already 30% in
How did you have the prejudice to begin with?
@@blue---monday I just did. I thought Stephen King books would be tough to read. This prejudice kept me from ever reading. Then I saw her video and thought I'll give it a try as well.
Same!! I read it and absolutely loved it
@Savannah ‹𝟹 Really? Posting spoilers on a book channel? Fuck off. Some people haven't read it
I understand what you mean when you describe getting assurance and comfort from his books. I've been reading his books as a teenager and always go back to them for comfort (even his horror) because I know that whatever I pick up, it's going to be brilliant and worth investing time in. Would recommend The Dead Zone and The Running Man - underrated classics!
i absolutely love the shining!! it's one of the books that got me into reading this year! if you're up for a psychological thriller with some paranormal activity i'd totally recommend it :) love your videos girl, god bless! 💗
You are literally the reason why I want to start a reading channel, because I love watching you talk about books so passionately.
I appreciate you giving creative and fun vibes through your vids! I love playing these while reading or cleaning!❤
Same😅
I live for these “my current obsession” type videos ❤
Misery is my favorite novel he's written. King is the reason I started writing and publishing my short stories. The guy is so down to Earth and loves sharing his secrets on writing. A lot of what he says in 'On Writing', inspired me to get off my ass and go for it. Enjoy reading more of his work, and good luck on your future writing journey. It's all worth the effort. **On a side note, The Outsider is great too.
It's really nice to see that you take 1 category or 1 topic for the video and you read about that, be it an author or genre. Then you conclude your thoughts at the end. It gives us insight on what we can expect. Thanks 😊
It’s super cool to see a new constant reader enjoying SK for the first time. You picked four very solids books.
Having read everything, I think chronological is the best but you can’t go wrong. Starting at the beginning though shows you the bigger picture in a more direct way.
Enjoy your journey!
girlie, you MUST read the green mile, it will get you on your feelings. A very different king novel. Also Salem's lot is SO GOOD ✨✨✨✨
the green mile is what shaped me as a person
Totally agree. I raved about The Green Mile for so long after I read it because I so loved it. It has a wow ending.
Salems Lot is a masterpiece, but also probably his scariest novel, not sure she'd want to get into all that lol.
This was so fun to watch! Reminded me of how fun it was to discover his books for the first time. When you get a chance, you should definitely watch the movie adaptation of Misery - it's fantastic
loved this! you should definitely do a part 2 of this book!
aww Haley, i totally feel you on the writing bit. i myself also want to be a writer but... like you said, it holds so much weight. writing is so special to me, words in general are so special to me. its a tricky thing for sure. i totally empathize and wish you the best of luck on your journey 💗
i know king doesn’t always write thriller/horror but i’m always excited to see you reading more thrillers n horror cus that’s my fave genre! hope u n spock are doin fabulous!
i love your videos so much! they are such a comfort❤❤
You should read “The Long Walk” by Stephen King. It’s a dystopian novel, so not scary, but has dark themes. It’s one of my favorite books by him
I second this recommendation, but it's one of his Richard Bachman titles, usually found in his Bachman Books collection, which also has The Running Man, Roadwork, and Rage. All very good.
Audiobook is best
It's an absolute masterpiece. I still read it every couple of years. Garraty, McVries, Stebbins and Barkovich are all imprinted in my mind. Even as I've broadened my reading into Dostoevsky, Borges and Camus, it's probably my all time favourite.
Stumbled on your channel but I'm hooked. I love your videos!!!! And I love this one I sparticular because I've been obsessed with Stephen King for yearssss😊
As a Stephen king fan this is good to see you sharing your thoughts on his magnificent writing, recommend reading The Green Mile and The Stand next, also Pet cemetery.
Thank you for giving Stephen King a chance! He's my favorite author and I'm always happy to see others getting into his books! 😊
My first ever Stephen King book was “The Body”, and it was so good! I definitely recommend! It was a quick read and is just amazing. It follows Gordie Lachance and 3 other boys that go on this adventure to find a body of a boy that went missing in a nearby town, and woah, it’s amazing. It’s not horror, mostly adventure and mystery. You should read!
You've seen Stand By Me, it's film adaption, correct? Top 5 best King film adaptations
My last read was his newest book Fairy Tale and I absolutely loved it! Would highly recommend. I'm definitely adding some of these to my tbr
Fairy Tale was the STRANGEST homage to adventure and fantasy literature I have ever read and it managed to stand quite tall on its own. I loved it almost as much as I loved his shared book, The Talisman. Which I very much recommend.
@@pollyc.1957fairy tale also really reminded me of ‘Coraline’
Such an enjoyable video. I've been reading King for 30 years and it's lovely to watch someone discover him. If you're looking for King horror it's got to be Pet Sematary. However my specific recommendation is that you listen to the audiobook of Dolores Claiborne. It works better in audio format than on the page and you'll understand why if you listen. It's not a horror. It is a great book that gets constantly overshadowed by his horror greatest hits but it's a gem. I envy you having so many of his books yet undiscovered! Enjoy!
You are the person that got me back into reading! I love you videos! Tysm
THE GREEN MILE!!!!! Completely changed my life and tore my heart out. highly highly recommended ive read it over 6 times!!! 💚
Girl, I read Misery a couple months ago and I was tearing up during the entire "foot" scene. Absolutely shocking but so well written. I loved the book as well!
Best Author that ever lived, there I said it! The Stand must be next on the list while 11.22.63 is amazing I think the stand has some of King's greatest characters and potlines!
Yes! So happu for you to be enjoying Stephen Kings works. My favorites are 11/22/63 and Pet Sematary, currently reading Joyland and I am absolutely loving it. He's not just horror!
You should absolutely read the Dark Tower series next! Awesome video though, welcome to the club. I've been reading Sai King's work for 2 years now, and am 15 books in, and absolutely hooked. Hope you enjoy them too. Lots of great characters to read about.
Omg love that you did this! I just got into Stephen King this past year (well not really, I've been trying to get through the TommyKnockers for like three years now lol) and one of my favs was definitely the Running Man. I also read the Long Walk because it's an interesting concept but the ending let's just say was... interesting. Also! I don't ever see book vloggers read plays which I think is unfortunate. There are really some amazing stories out there that people miss because they either don't go to the theatre or read plays. Would love to see a video on that! (And not just like Shakespeare but more contemporary stuff, definitely do your research beforehand so read the good stuff and not just the classics lol) Anyway, love your videos!!
I love your videos, so inspiring ✨️
Waking up to see Haley has posted a video Is the best feeling ever!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love you and am obsessed with your videos and usually watch them 15+ times each and this one is no different except I love this one the most! I love Stephen King and I've been waiting soooo long for someone I love watching to make a video all about him. Thank you so so so much for that! (please make one more video about his books in the future please please please thank you)
This video needs most definitely a part 2. It is very entertaining. Good job!
I look forward to your debut novel. You're inspiring millions including myself so as one creative to another, never give up. You claimed your role as an author when you first picked up a pen so it's only a matter of time before you shed that light into the world. You live your truth and craft those stories as you experience life so who knows you could be one dream away from falling in love with a dream that you chase for the rest of your life. God bless!
this man comes into my work everyday and he is the most humble person i’ve ever met

Began The Stand three days ago. My first Stephen King novel. Little did I know, it is his longest novel. 1153 pages, approximately 500,000 words. It's a chonky little fella with small print. Understably, it looks intimidating, but with his writing style, word choice, and fantastic story telling, I am able to read through this at my top reading speed without sacrificing any comprehension. To read fast without losing comprehension of the story speaks volumes to an author's writing. This was his 4th book and I'm excited to read another. Definitely going to buy Billy Summers, Fairy Tale, The Shining, and The Outsider. I also have his memoir. The man can write.
It’s really fun to find new books that you love! I was scared to read one bc it was so thick but then I read it and it’s my favorite book now!
what book?
Hi Haley, I am glad you gave Stephen King a chance. As my favorite author, I've read most of his books. He is prolific in genres as much as in numbers. You have much romance in many of his stories, so I know you will enjoy the rides. You made the perfect choices to begin your adventure. If you accept suggestions, give the following books a chance: Lisey's Story, The Talisman, and Mr. Mercedes. There is another non-fiction from 1981 called Danse Macabre about the history of horror fiction. By the way, you've got yourself a new fan. Happy reading!
Misery was my first Stephen King novel and it got me addicted! His thrillers are by far my fave, because I'm not the biggest horror fan. So seeing you read that got me so excited and to hear that you liked it - YAY! ❤
This was so fun to watch Haley, every time you upload, you make me want to try different genres and authors
Huge fan of Stephen King, the first one I ever read was Firestarter and I fell in love with his writing style. Some of my favorites are The Institute, Insomnia, Joyland, and Bag of Bones. Also the Bill Hodges trilogy is really good! I honestly love them all in their own way.
I had the same Stephen King experience. I've been a reader since I was a kid, but never ventured into Horror. I read Misery last year and LOVED it. I've since read about 13 Stephen Kings since then and still obsessed!
SUCHHH a good and wholesome video, so excited when I saw it pop up as a notification!
As a long, long time (started with Cujo at age 6. I'm 39 this month) King fan it is so good to see someone's journey into the vast array of books he's wrote. Your welcome enthusiasm is quite infectious and I hope you enjoy the King for a good long time ❤
HAH! How interesting, you beat me by a year - I read my first Stephen King book when I was 7 🙂
The title? Ahhh, you'll never believe it...but, it was Carrie! True story 🤚
Misery is peak King, my second favorite novel next to Let The Right One In.
You go, girl! Welcome to the Stephen King Fan Club! IMO, the earlier King books might even be better than the later books, or at least some of them. The Stand is highly regarded and might be his best. Some of his scariest (and best) books are Salem's Lot, The Shining, and Pet Sematary. For other non-scary stories I'd recommend The Green Mile and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, which is actually a novella. But by all means try one of the horror novels, just to see how masterfully he writes them. Good luck---and try reading them in the daytime.
Oh my gosh this is so crazy! Would never expect that you would love his writing so much! He's one of my favorite authors and I am so happy you're enjoying his books! ❤
I just subbed! I love your vids and been watching them for a while. I get inspired from you to read a lot of more books that I did before and I’m really proud of that. Also, congrats on you being in one of your favorite Arthurs book!
Love that you are getting into Stephen King! I too was hesitant at first because I also don't like scary things! I highly recommend "The Institute". This was my first book I read of his and had a fun time reading it! More on the mystery/thriller side but still a little horror but not too much. Definitely check it out!!
I started at the beginning with Carrie and tried to go in order (which lasted through The Shining). I then started hopping around. He’s fantastic. Effed up, but fantastic.
There's a reason why he is my absolute favorite author. I swear ever since I first read the Shining (which my mom recommended), I have not been able to look at other authors in the same light. Stephen King books put me in the biggest reading slump because I just can't find books that are written as well as his.
First time viewer of your channel, long time Stephen King fan. It was so awesome to see your road of discovery! And I'm jealous that you got to experience my favourite King book (11/22/63) so early on in your journey. I'm already curious what you think of gems like The Green Mile, Mr. Mercedes, or (slight shiver) the Dark Tower books... Thanks for this video, it made me want to read another King book as my next novel.
I have watched your videos since we were 15. You are the one who really got me into dancing when I was younger. Now you are the one who has gotten me into reading! Hearing that you want to be an author makes me so happy! I would be one of the first people in line for your first book!
We love your videos Hayley ❤. I started by reading Fairy Tale (2022) and I really recommend it. It’s not particularly scary but can be a little bit gruesome 😅. I also recently read ‘Stephen King On Writing’ and I learnt a lot as an aspiring author.
I've had a very similar experience with him in the past couple years. My girlfriend got me On Writing because I liked the movies based on his books and I love writing. Then I read some of his newer books (The Institute & Billy Summers) and became obsessed and now I'm reading his older ones. Currently on Insomnia! I also started binging a bunch of interviews with him. It's cool to see others are recently getting into him as well!
i need another one of these, I love stephen king and i love your videos so this is just perfect
Currently studying for my end of year 12 exams and I'm so stressed out but my mood brightened the second I saw that Haley's uploaded a new video! ✨
I'd be curious if you did one of these for Charles Dickens! A Tale of Two Cities will always be an absolute classic!
I love short Stephen King novels. Misery is my favourite! Pet Semetary is the scariest one but is like psychological as opposed to gorey horror
this video makes me want to read one of steven kings books!! hope your having/had fun on your trip!!
So I found 11/22/63 in a random café with a “book swap” area ! I have been keeping my eye out for this one, Misery, Billy Summers, and On Writing since watching this video and becoming inspired to venture into Stephen King’s writing. So so so excited to read my first book by him ! Thank you, Haley ! ♥️
I looove your videos! You’re the only booktuber I trust with recommendations to 100%🥰❤️
Same girl ❤
Stephen King is by far the best author out there. From the moment you pick up his books, you are hooked from the beginning and not many authors can achieve that. His books are the type that when you have to put it down, you cant wait to get back to it and think about it most of the day until you can. I really liked Rose Madder. Quite disturbing though but i read that one real quick. Im currently reading Fairy Tale and again, hooked!
Loved watching the video, thank you for making, it reminder me I used to love reading King.❤
Loved this! I just started reading his books this week!! Also where did you get your hazel jumper from it’s so cute 😍
I read Billy Summers after watching your authors recommend books video and it was a complete 5 star for me too, was going to read more but was hesitant, so this video could not have come at the more perfect time!
You should definitely read the stand by stephen king! It was such an amazing book it's a little intimidating because it's 1,160 pages or so but definitely a 5 star read in my opinion:)
Haley! i'm so happy you started reading Stephen King novels!! i love Stephen King, another good book that's not super scary and is more of romance is lisey's story!
I loved this video so much, I wanna see more of these. SO entertaining.
From your first competition vlog to book vids ur always entertaining 😛
my first Stephen King was Joyland and I loved it, not really horror but there is some spooky stuff. right now you just made me want to read more by him so thank you so much
Hi Haley! I'm so happy you are reading Stephen King he is one of my favourite authors ever, I recommend Pet Sematary if you want a book that is a little creepy but not horror-horror, it was a bit slow in parts but I loved the ending and always catch myself thinking about it and all the characters, I love your videos they always make me so happy! xx
I love this so much im going to keep an eye out for On Writing! Please do another on him!
This was great to see. Some people think he’s overrated but he really is a master storyteller. You chose two of my favourite King books too…nicely put together video. I’m impressed with how much you read in one week.
The Long Walk is my favorite of his. Fun pulpy read, very intense.
when you post a video I get so excited and it starts my day and makes me happy I really love your videos ❤
Your other video inspired me to pick up Billy Summers! Almost done with it, and it’s really good but eager to see how everything wraps up. I love you videos so much ❤
Haley you are a breath of fresh air with reading different authors than everyone else on booktube.
Absolutely love that youve entered your Stephen King era. ❤ Have fun in Japan!
I feel you with writing. I say go for it if you want to do it. I'm a writer working towards self publication of a novel series and I'm currently working on rewriting the first novel since certain things needed to be added to the story to enhance it. It takes a while to write and edit your first novel, but it is so worth it. You learn a lot about yourself and the craft of writing through the process of writing, rewriting, and editing your first novel.
Opened yt to knkw more about Stephen King's books and this is the first video on my recommendations definitely got inspired to read his books
Thank you❤
I love how me and Haley have the same book taste, so anytime I see one of these videos I know exactly what to read next
I read Misery as my first Stephen King book and I am obsessed!!! might be entering this era too 🤓
Great video! Stephen King is my absolute favourite author, it is my objective to own and read all of his books. The first book of his that I read was 11/22/63 and is still one of my favourite books ever! I absolutely love it and I thoroughly enjoyed Billy Summers as well. Also, you should definitely read his Dark Tower series next, it's 8 books long, not horror, and I honestly could barely put them down as I was reading them. :)
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed King so far. I’m still pretty early into my journey as well but my favourites so far are The Long Walk and The Shining.
