i am ENVIOUS of anyone who reads this series for the first time. i read this series when i was in high school at 16 and the series was not even completed, it holds such a huge space in my heart these characters are everything honestly.

read this at 15 which was 7 years ago. it got me hooked into reading and being immersed in the TOG world was a very fond memory for me. I haven"t finished the series so Im excited to read it all again

Good for you, girl. Reading Fourth Wing and Iron Flame solidified to me that I don’t have the attention span to read long books back-to-back. My brain is too used to ~350-400 page thrillers and romances.
I always feel the brain needs time to process what you've been reading. I'll often finish a novel then wait a day or two to piece it all together before starting another. We need to remember that when we sleep the brain is still processing everything we've done in the last 24 hours (I learned that in my psych classes many years ago)

I have read both throne of glass and acotar and I can honestly say I just love throne of glass so much more. It has such crazy plot twists and though I dearly love the acotar characters. Nothing quite got me like throne of glass. I wasn’t quite sure how to live after I finished this series ❤️
The Throne of Glass series has my heart and soul. There’s not a day that passes by where i’m not thinking about all the characters. I’m already on my first re-read even though I just finished a few weeks ago.

Watching this blog made me unbelievably happy !! You wouldn't believe the amount of emotions i hold for this book series. The time u mentioned that the characters feel real to you ??? I FEEL you !! It's been my home for soooo long ! Honestly this book series is me and I'm it ! The amount of meticulous detail and precision and emotion that Sarah poured into the pages un freaking believaeble !!!! I'm always envious of anyone who can experience the series for the first time !
The way you can read anywhere, like I need to sit in my room quiet with headphones on, no music. But still I always end up reading just 10 pages😭😭
I started watching Haley when she was first beginning her book journey. Seeing how far she's come is amazing! Watching her try new genres and learn more about her reading tastes is definitely helpful when in a reading slump. Her videos never fail to cheer me up!!

The tandem read changed my whole perspective on the TOG series! It was so enjoyable and I have never experienced that with another series before

I loved tandem reading the Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, it was such a cool experience. And I read The Assassin's Blade before Queen of Shadows bcoz we meet the characters in TAB from QoS onwards, so it's kinda easy to read on when TAB stories and characters are still fresh in ur mind. It's overall one of the best series for me💫🔥

WOW the dedication and determination is insane 😭❤️ if you’re looking for a shorter series to read next, I’d highly recommend the Chaos Walking books by Patrick Ness (trilogy!), Lockwood & Co. by Jonathan Stroud (5 books!), or the Abhorsen/Old Kingdom books by Garth Nix! I just started reading Sabriel and I’m loving it so far 😄 these are definitely my favs I’ve read this year!
and as far as I know from reviews, Sabriel can also work as a standalone if you don’t want to or don’t have the time to read the rest of the series!

I did this too in September and I completely agree that it’s so so much better to read them all one right after another because there are so many characters and I feel like you’d lose the subtle connections between books if you didn’t read them together! I finished all 8 books in about 2 weeks and my favorite little (*mini-spoiler*) connection was nox from throne of glass being in kingdoms of ash I was just like AYYYYYYY because i had just read it! the series really feels homey like you’re reading about friends, I was so sad to finish :’) glad you loved it too!!

Love it! I read the assassins blade at the end, because thats when i found out it existed but actually it was really nice to do it that way and get to piece things together myself while reading the others before
I highly recommend you read the lunar chronicles, it's one of my favorite fantasy series. Also the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy and strange the dreamer duology in that order. They're sooo good. Other honorable mentions are ace of shades and the girl of fire and thorns

I agree with almost everything you said about the series! I also took me about a month to read it all. I feel the ONLY way to read it is back to back because of all the characters you’re introduced to throughout the whole series. I don’t get the hate on TOD because I actually really enjoyed it! That tandem read was a first for me in all the years I’ve been reading and it was a smart decision to do it(I almost didn’t tandem read them 😮) anyways this series was AMAZING for me and I agree that Assassins Blade is extremely underrated! It was really the glue to the series in my opinion. The only complaint I have is that the last 100 pages of the final book were a little rushed and I felt that the book really could’ve been 1K pages if SJM really took her time wrapping it up. Such a good video girl I enjoyed it! ❤

I very highly recommend the Lunar Chronicles! Probably my favorite series of all time honestly. It just keeps getting better as you read!

Oh! I read this series in highschool. I love the second book so much lol. The couple is just super cute
Damn, after years of watching you, this is one of the first times I had read the books before your review. Watching this was so validating, and it felt fun cause I also did the tandem reads and the same chart and did it on Kindle. I did this book series from February to JULY. And that felt like a full-time job. I have been feeling burned out since I started grad school in May. Wow, I applaud you for reading the entire series so far, but yes, all your thoughts. I felt like we were twins with the character's story lies and having to wait for the Tower of Dawn and then for the Kingdom of Ash. For that absolutely heartbreaking story. I wish we got a fluff book with this series because we fell so in love with the characters and got so invested. I want to see how they live as queen and change the world. I can't believe I think so much about this book series after finishing it in July.
Anyway, I am finishing the ballad of Never After Today!!!! And I'm super excited to start the third and last books. I am a little sad cause you said it was a 4-star red, and you gave Once Upon and Ballad 5 stars, which I agree ... 5 stars. But compared to the Carval series, this is like a 12-star series. (well, that's a lie. The first and the first 2/3 of the second books were a complete snooze fest. I fell asleep every time I read it, only after 10 minutes, then the lights went on, and I passed out asleep) the second Jack came in, I perked up.
I did mess up the Stephanie Gerber series, tho. I read Once Upon First and realized I should read the Carval series, so I did that, and now I am finishing up the Broken Heart trilogy.

I agree with your review of every book and I can't believe they tricked me into not reading assassin's blade first bc I feel like it's the one that made me connect with celeana and start feeling all the emotions !
I finished my first read of this series in December and LOVED IT. I love that you covered the reading order a little, I read The Assassin's Blade first and felt like it was super impactful that way! I also really loved the tandem read even though it felt like such a massive undertaking haha. I felt like it made me appreciate Tower of Dawn so much more.

the only grievance I had about this series was Nesryn's POV. I felt she wasn't a super important character and was bored by her story. The series would have been just as good without her.

On the topic of tandem reading, I know you’re a believer and love to read your Bible-You should try a chronological reading plan, that’ll be a whole new experience for you and it really links things together and helps you remember so much more. 🎉
Some of my fav series so far is the Shatter me series and the inheritance games series they were both amazing!! The inheritance series was a super super quick read for me and so was shatter me. Another one I would recommend is the dream land billionaire series it’s a romance. It is an open door romance though I can’t remember if you read spicy books but i personally loved the series. And lastly the twisted series by Ana Huang was also amazing too and again another open door romance.

I wish I could read it for the first time 🥺, I read it this summer in a month as well and it has become like a staple of my year really. With a saga that is THIS long and with a writer like Sarah J Maas you can't help but get hooked. Objectively I don't think she's the best or anything and the series has its faults but her strength is definitely character writing. You feel so connected to them and switching POVs is not as tiring bc you genuinely like everyone for different reasons. I think it will take me a long time to find another series that has me as connected to the characters as this one had me...

Personally, I would read assassin's blade after crown of midnight and before heir of fire. And that's also sjm's personal reccomendation as well!
