Being mean to Irene is the cruelest thing Jimmy/Saul ever did 😭😆
I was HEATED, not even gonna lie.
@@JamesVSCinema Got to give it up to the filmmakers - like, it's *not* worse than melting people in acid or killing a child or a dozen witnesses in jail, but god damn if it doesn't hit you even harder than all of that stuff.
@@JamesVSCinema Irene's mind had to be changed.
If anything he opened her eyes to what kind of “friends” she has.
@marvymarv959 Actually yeah, her "friends" should have talked to her instead of going straight to ostracization. But it's still understandable. Ppl form their cliques and old ppl can be stubborn as hell sometimes and set in their hard-knocked ways.
He has knowingly represented and protected thieves, drug dealers, and murderers, but what he did to Irene is the coldest thing Jimmy has ever done.
What? Exposing what type of friends she has?
@@marvymarv959When you live in a senior center unfortunately you don't have many options of friends :(
@@marvymarv959 They are old people who are easily manipulated do not excuse his behavior
IMO what he did to Howard was arguably worse. Howard didn't deserve the pure hatred thrown his way.
@@BrandonWestfall but he made the sweet old lady cry
I LOVE the way Kim's car crash was done. When you fall asleep while driving, you don't remember the in-between. Cuz you were asleep. Them cutting straight to the crash puts us in her place.
As someone who falls asleep while driving more often than I'd like, this is scarily true. It's worse, too, when your mind doesn't even comprehend that you need to pull over because it's so exhausted. There's just the before (when you start driving) and the after (when you either finally realize you need to stop or when you crash) - the in-between is just a foggy blur.
It also calls back to Kim taking a nap in her car she set an alarm closed her eyes and immediately it went off waking her up a couple episodes before
It's so good! I never forgot it
@@noteliassmith It sounds like you fall asleep while driving regularly
@@noteliassmith Maybe you should stop driving then instead of endangering others.
Jimmy's scam on Irene was the first time he conned someone genuinely innocent for no reason other than greed. All his other scams up until now were against people who were outwardly jerks or had done something to him already or were blinded by their own greed. Irene was just a sweet old lady who just wanted to enjoy her friends and community and Jimmy took that from her for no reason other than money. And worst of all there are plenty of people in real life who do this to elders, so it is much more palpable in terms of moral disgust for the audience.
“This is not what fine looks like” Patrick’s delivery there is fantastic
He's a fantastic actor. His delivery, his facial expressions, his demeanor. So well rounded.
That sudden snap with Kim was the best car crash edit I've ever seen. It was like a sledgehammer to the face as a viewer.
James Roadside Assistance: "All good, baby. Just dig it out."
Lmfaooo, smooth operator right here
@@JamesVSCinemaYou can do it put your back into it.
this episode will never be an easy watch
I WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR IRENE
Her “friends “ wouldn’t tho
@@marvymarv959 Right? 😢
Jimmy has done MANY morally questionable things. And yet manipulating everyone else into hating Irene just so a deal can be cut is the most evil one.
Yeah, this was pure cut throat villainy right here.
I’m a big horror movie guy but Kim’s crash is genuinely one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever seen on screen. Because it’s so relatable, we’ve all been behind the wheel when we’re overtired. The way it cuts to a couple seconds AFTER the impact is just so jarring.
21:20 I was waiting for that scene... It's beeing build up the lack of sleep, and it's wonderfully done.
Edited perfectly.
The stuff with Kim falling asleep at the wheel has been foreshadowed a tiny bit throughout the season. Her scene with the 5 minute power nap a few eps back, being so constantly busy with Mesa Verde, etc. I think in the scene with Kevin/Page at the restaurant Kevin even makes a comment about how even with the insane workload Kim seems to handle anything they throw at her. Lastly I'm pretty sure in the previous episode with Kim's car being stuck in the dirt there's a subtle shot of the interior of her car which shows a bottle or multiple bottles of some kinda anti-drowsy medicine that she's been taking. Truly one of the most impactful moments of the season imo, and as you said the editor for Kim's scenes just pops off the whole season. So good.
The thing about Jimmy becoming Saul is kind of like that elusive moment that Walter becomes Heisenberg. There's really not any one moment. People like to point to a specific moment or episode, but it's a gradual shift, and it goes back and forth.
This is the episode that should've been called "Something Unforgiveable".
"I'm starting to get Chuck now."
Bro, just wait...
The Irene stuff BROKE MY HEART
“Imagine me as your enemy!” 🔥
The show started with Jimmy wanting Chuck's share of the company from Howard, and Howard (being in league with Chuck all along) was very smug about not seeing that as a threat. And now Chuck wants his share of the company from Howard, and he is shook. And as always, Chuck is motivated by pride. Show some humility, bow down, keep relationships good, seek help and live comfortably? Nah, not our Chuck. He finds them being worried about his mental illness to be insulting, and he is willing to burn it all to the ground, to get back at those who he thinks are doing him wrong. What a petty and prideful guy.
Nah man, I never forgave Jimmy for what he did to Irene :(
Too pure for this world.
I was blown away by the editing. I feel like it was also really smart because then they wouldn't need to have the budget for showing a collision.
I love the car crash scene -- it's possibly my favorite in the entire show.
The way it is shown is from Kim's subjective experience of it. One moment she is just driving along and the next thing she knows, she has an airbag in her face. It would be a little avantgarde to show it this way, if it wasn't for...
1) the moment earlier in the episode which shows her being overworked and almost ending with her car (and mental health?) crashing. It sets up the context for the car crash later. And...
2) the brief scene from the previous episode where she powernaps in her car and it quickly cuts from her closing her eyes to her alarm going off, which establishes the visual language used for the car crash scene.
Beyond that -- like you also pointed out -- the scene is just a great example of how this show has us caring about its characters, even in somewhat mundane situations.
I skipped back 6 times to see your reaction to Kim's crash. :D LOL Hits you just as hard as it hits Kim. Soo well done, I never saw it coming.
As the show progresses, I’ve become more and more sympathetic for Howard.
I really like the forshadowing from the last episode with Kim, she tries to fall asleep on the car putting a 5 minute alarm, and a quick cut happens with the alarm kicking in
Same thing here but with Kim actually behind the wheel with the exact same cut
This is Jimmys “I watched Jane die” moment. THIS right here is final nail in Jimmys coffin and out came Saul.
I can concur! PTSD from the Jane death hahaha
Irene's heart broken reaction to being ignored by her friends just hurts my soul. I know how that feels. Plus she kind of favors my mother, and the thought of someone doing that to her hurts even more and enrages me.
I like how the episode before this is titled Slip and then this one Fall👌🏾
Thanks for keeping the content coming even though you’re on the road 🫡 also I think the entire BCS fandom can unanimously agree that watching Irene get done dirty like that is one of the hardest things to watch in the show 😂😭 nobody wants their poor ol grandma Irene getting turned on like that, it really breaks your heart to see. We always love Jimmy for being such an ally to the elderly so it hurts especially hard to see coming from him
I really dig the editing for Kim’s crash. I think it’s brilliant how the setup the quick abrupt cut in an earlier episode when she falls asleep in her car. Because that’s what those naps feel like. One second you’re awake and trying to go to sleep, the next second your alarm is jarring you awake. And then we get a similar edit/quick cut with her dozing off at the wheel and getting abruptly awoken by the accident. Definitely made me jump the first time I watched it but I appreciate how the show handled it
This show is so good at taking every little moment and finding smart and creative ways to show them to the audience
In Rome?! Let's go dude. Hope you had a fun trip!
i love how kims lack of sleep and struggling with an overwhelming workload, was built up in multiple episodes, all to build this cut.
Haha I always half jokingly say what happened to Irene who was the worst thing to happen in the breaking bad universe.. everyone can picture the sweetest old lady they know and something like this happening to them, and it is just heart-wrenching..
I literally skip past the old lady storyline in this episode when i rewatch because it makes me think of somebody doing that to my mom, and i get heated and heartbroken. So glad to see you saying this is the worst thing he's ever done, cos 💯 agree.
Great content as always.
Perfect name for the episode. We see everyone's fall, especially Jimmy's.
Those wide shots (like all good wide shots) are like paintings. BCS really perfected those. And f*** Jimmy for his schemes.
I can watch this show on repeat for the rest of my life. Always new stuff to appreciate, especially in hindsight. Like to me, the shot of Nacho at 15:47 hits hard.
Nah...not Irene...

Much love!
You ain't seen nothing yet, my man. Not sure which episode you're at in realtime, but Jimmy devolves more and more throughout the series.
Props to your channel, by the way. I almost never comment, until recently, but I'm a long-time subscriber. You rock.
@@Mr.Fahrenheit. Ayyyy thanks so much!
This is legit the most painful series of episodes to watch out of all of them, BB and BCS lol. Poor Irene.
So much more to come, just remember that you said Hamlin wasn't ready to throw hands...lol ( I promise that's not a spoiler, cuz Vince and the writers wouldn't make it that obvious) loving my Tuesdays with you and revisiting this great series!
I'm a jimmy girlie, i love him to bits, but what he did to Irene? Electric chair. The way that I couldn't handle him. And about Chuck? All I can say is what Howards says to him in the next episode is all that needs to be said. I actually cried with Kim's crash, the shock and worry killed me.
13:57 "this lady's adorable" jimmy: "perfect target"
That car crash was THE BEST depiction of someone falling asleep at the wheel Ive ever seen. It gets everybody. Hell I jumped on my first AND second watchthrough. They also did great making her look tired yet composed in the car. You can tell shes dragging a bit but dont realize how mu.....BLAM!
Omg! I’m so excited for Lantern!
The build up to Kims car crash all season and the way they put it together was so damn good! Chills
I knew when Kim went silent all of a sudden in the car she fell asleep at the wheel but kudos for the editing. Still shook me even though I knew what happened.
all my homies love Irene
all the homies!
15:00 if you're so interested in Jimmy's high school years then boy do I have an awesome cartoon series for you
Rome? Wow awesome dude!! I'm from Portugal (not anywhere close to Italy 😂) but still, it's cool you're in Europe
Next Tuesday is about to be hype. Season 3 episode 10 Latern is the one I've been waiting for. Waiting to see your reaction. That episode is quite possibly the most important episode of the entire saga. Breaking bad and El Camino included. It's literally a set of events that wouldn't have happened unless Latern happened. Seriously. It's that deep.
Kim fell asleep at the steering wheel of her car. It happens when humans don't get enough rest.
If you check out Kim's window as she was driving, she seems fine but the background changes, quick cuts. Shows she was actually nodding off.
It only occurred to me that another difference between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is what group of characters are leant on as the worst victims. In Breaking Bad we often saw Walt’s worst tendencies end up having an impact on innocent children. In Better Call Saul we see the other end of the scale: Jimmy’s worst tendencies end up having an impact on innocent elderly people.
"When in Rome.... watch old TV shows." No that's not it, I'm sure. But your reactions are much appreciated
The car crash scene shook me too when I first saw it.
Chuck never wrapped himself it foil blankets until Jimmy became a lawyer. Now that Jimmy is suspended, Chuck is better!
Enjoy your trip, James!
I hated Jimmy for what he did
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of Better Call Saul!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Appreciate you chief!
I knew Kim was about to wreck because I've watched this episode a couple of times, I still squinted my eyes and gritted my teeth in anticipation 😂
Chuck is definitely right about Jimmy.
Irene incident is up there with Br Ba 5x15 Andrea incident
The car crash got me as well when I saw it the first time! Plus with my surround sound even made it worse!! haha
i remember watching this with my mom for the first time and the pain we felt for irene was immense, such a hard watch 😭
Jean Effron is playing Irene here. Wonderful actress!
Around the 14:14 mark that is The Preacher telling the story of right hand and left hand from Night of the Hunter. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
Jimmy becomes true evil, but Chuck shows is true colours. S1 "I could never leave HHM, it would bankrupt them!" As soon as Howard opposes him: "I'll burn HHM to the ground!" Both brothers looking scummy at this point.
I still think that aiding Walter in poisoning Brock is the, single, worst thing he's done. Obviously the cumulative effects of representing Walter in the first place were greater, but as an individual action that takes the cake, unless I'm forgetting something major.
I hope you are having a good time in Italy/Rome :)
That eclipse jawwwnn 😂
Seeing what Jimmy was doing with Irene was and still is hard to watch. I know how it all is resolved, but it still doesn’t make it any better. Also, seeing Chuck’s reaction to what is going on as a result of the insurance coming to tell them they’ll raise the premiums as a result of Chuck’s outburst in court, that Jimmy let them know about is very interesting to see as well as how Chuck is to Howard afterwards, especially since Howard does want the best for Chuck, but going about it the nice way isn’t going to work with him, especially at this point. And as usual the Cartel storyline is just as captivating as usual. The fact that Nacho was able to switch the pills really just opens up a countdown as to see what will happen with Hector, which we know what the result is, but seeing it happen is quite a different thing. Nacho’s dad is a great man, probably one of the best in the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe. These episodes keep getting more and more amazing. Of course Kim is always great to watch. Though her working as hard as she has been and trying to get things done, has been taking a toll on her as she got into a car accident, which thankfully didn’t kill her. Sleep is important, even if you have a lot going on, it’s important to at least have some level of sleep, even if it’s sleeping for a few hours, like taking a nap. Great reaction James. I hope you’re doing well man, I hope you’re having a great day. Take care!
I really like Howard. He's like a Ned Flanders .
I'm not a filmmaker by any means but I feel like this show is a master class. It's so good....
I will only ask one thing, as I'm rewatching the show with you. Please speed up the process! It's one of the most incredible experiences as far as cinematography goes
patreon
The most foul shit Jimmy ever does. Poor Irene.
aw man the Irene stuff was so bad.... I hated where that went.
The editing on Kims car crash though was really incredible, its exactly how it would feel. It feels like blinking when you fall asleep during the day like that then wake up, so that would have been exactly what it would have been like, blinking then suddenly, boom, airbag in your face and a huge force on your body.
I was sure Kim would die in this episode either at the oil well or in the accident. So relieved she survived.
I am again recommending you to watch the movie Ghost dog: the way of the samurai starring Forest Whitaker. A deep story with one of the best soundtracks
Justic for Irene.
Yeah kim dosed off at the wheel. Stress, lack of sleep, overworking, is what caused it.
Kim’s car crash always makes me jump! 😅
Enjoy your time in Rome! I am super jelly of you rn 😂

Ayo James 🤨🧐🤨🧐
James, where do I go to see more of what you do? Are any of your projects available to the public?
Yup! Click the links in the description :)
No greater despair than hating Chuck and rooting for Jimmy while knowing full well that Chuck was right the whole time, and will stay right going forward.
Man, please do 3 episodes weekly and finish this masterpiece off before starting any other series.
Puh-lease!
It might sound dramatic, but watching Jimmy turn all the gals against Irene felt similar to watching Walt do nothing while Jane choked on her vomit. I knew before that these weren't sympathetic characters, at least not completely, but those felt like big turning points for me.
This episode literally made me sick to my stomach when i first watched it
'Bars' 🤣
The way that Jimmy turned Irene's friends against her was absolutely heartbreaking and cruel. It was really difficult to watch these scenes.
Yeah... everyone's blood boils over what Jimmy does to Irene. It's unforgivable. I used to volunteer at nursing homes and day communities for the elderly: so many of those people are isolated from their families and prior interests and social circles, nearly all they have is the good will and friendliness of the people who live with them. To say that I never, ever forgave this character for this is an understatement.
This is like watching Jane die
😎
when in rome
We've saw a lot of messed up things in the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe but what Jimmy did to Irene is one of the lowest things that's been shown thus far.
When in Rome
There's wolves and sheep. And in this episode Saul is definetly the wolf. Saul is an immoral charachter but people root for him anyways. With Irene being the victim instead viewers rethink that.
When in Rome… Better call Saul! And maybe check out peep show lmao
Jimmy did some dirty shit in this show. What he did to Irene was terrible.
I still think Howard gets it the worst in this series though.

james has done dark but unfortunately i could only find the last couple of episodes on patreon :(
