This ride is way cooler in person than what a video can show.
They took out the entire story of the sea witch. It's boring for like 5 minutes now
First water coaster ever. Great theming for a SeaWorld park, and the coaster track was a fun touch. I did get soaked on a day where it was only 60 degrees outside
Went on this ride when it was in it's second year. I found it amazing. Went last just after parks reopened and it lost it's luster. All that made it Atlantis got "toned" down.
Needs a drastic refurb and keep to the original story and theme and it'd be awesome again.

@@wisekris I used to think it was Medusa as well, but it’s actually called a “siren”. In Greek mythology, sirens were dangerous and ruthless creatures. Sirens lived out near islands, and with their beautiful (yet deceiving) looks, and enchanting music/songs, they would lure and seduce sailors closer… only to kill them!!!
And so, in the original ride, a siren introduces everyone to the city of Atlantis only to show her true form, and then the riders escape with the help of the magical seahorse.
I have no f’ing idea why they changed the whole ride -_-
The indoor music is so calm and the outdoor is so entertaining for the ride best ride ever!

Why won't they go back to the original theming?? We don't really need to shelter children that much do we? It was amazing with the sea witch Medusa type antagonist along with visual effects especially the large statue with glowing eyes and then the ongoing themng in a second dark ride portion before the drop on the track. There's so much more you can do with this and you just have to wonder where all the money has gone maintaining Rides in a park that charges hundreds of dollars per person.
I think the better update will be a musical, about a human Greek prince, and a mermaid princess of Atlantis, and the riders will start at a voyage, into the reef, exploring Atlantis, and encountering a Kraken-like Sea-Warlock villian, with the triumph of the new home and love, with the similarity of Splash Mountain.
It's not the same without the story and the siren's voice (the sea witch). I remember a little seahorse that popped up and then as you got to the hill, the seahorse was worried and shaking his head, like he was warning you not to go further because of the siren! The original ride felt like an adventure. Whatever the reason for them removing the theming, it has sadly ruined the experience :(
@@frozenheart_07 why not a newer version of the ride. A musical about a human prince searching for a new home, for his people. And a mermaid princess of the city of Atlantis with a seahorse friend. While avoiding a kraken-like sea warlock trying to trap them. And the finale will be a celebration of a new home, and a new love. In a similar fusion of Disney’s Little Mermaid and Hercules.
I was scared as a kid, but I got through it no problem, because after all it's a ride. I agree we really don't need to shelter children because as scary as the ride is it's nor traumatizing in any way.
@@EM-wo6wf I'm from the UK and me and my siblings loved the original ride; it was a unique experience compared to the rides in the UK. We sometimes quote the siren saying "going so soon? I think not!" in her voice lol. It's sad she doesn't speak anymore
They better add some more dark story tones back to this ride. It set the bar so high when it debuted.

There used to be a storyline at the beginning with an evil mermaid that would bring riders into Atlantis, only to turn into a siren and scare everybody. They took it out about 3 years ago to make the ride more “family-friendly”

The darkride part is beautiful.....reminds me of Fata Morgana in Efteling, but those exit signs though
I believe it’s state law in Florida to have exit signs easily visible. Doesn’t help with this ride’s theming though

This ride has changed a lot sconce last time I went in it
They could at least bring back the dialogue and maybe even the screen portion where it reveals the mermaid is a siren, but maybe just not have the statue and tone down the creepy laughs (although those are a really nice touch before the drops)
Or maybe they could just bring back the entire story and refurbish it a little bit more because this version is soulless
I’ve only been to SeaWorld once when I was VERY young. This was the only ride I went on 🤦♂️🥲😂

Pretty much all of the storyline and lots of effects got removed a couple years ago

This ride used to be so much better with Medusa speaking through Atlantis and there was some inside water squirting plus the great lighted Medusa head before the incline, SeaWorld has really gone downhill, certainly isn’t Universal or Disney, not to mention the aquatic life that dies there that they don’t tell the public about!!
I'm sorry but this new version is just a joke compared to the original version.. it was a roller coaster of terror where you really felt like you were entering an unknown and controversial world where at first you were welcomed but along the way the tension and the mystery take over... the synchronism of the effects with the sound and the path transformed this attraction into something unique.. it makes me sad to see what it turned into
I wonder if that siren statue before the climb up is still there, just darkened so people can't see it as easily.

Were the outside parts never expected to be seen during the day? It's so run down and in bad shape. It desperately needs a few coats of paint at the least. It almost looks abandoned.

They are dealing with a board that had several ceos leave and they are close to bankruptcy.
@@ccateni28, they are no where close to bankruptcy, they aren’t stupid if they were close to bankruptcy they wouldn’t have added a major coaster to every one of their major parks, and so what if they are changing CEOs does it really matter.
@@coolbean259 a. the coasters were before the covid situation and thats was causing the losses of money.
b. if they can't keep a CEO due to the board clashing with every CEO that came in, thats a huge problem.
c. they are close to bankruptcy as they aren't in a stable place and were being told by the same board that fired almost every ceo that came in recently to file...
The last time I was at a Sea World Park in San Diego they had no Journey to Atlantis and no Roller Coasters.

Boring and nonsensical now without the narration and medusa.

They did the same thing at the beginning of California Screaming at Disneyland CA Adventure, which starts out with a fast catapult straightaway right into a hill: the ride used to start when it starts (like it’s supposed to), but they added a countdown 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

Well, to be fair, you can see the launch on Screamin from anywhere in California Adventure so it’s not really that much of a surprise anyway. But yeah the warnings are unnecessary and take away from the immersion. Like the removal of the scary siren effects, it’s a piss poor attempt at family-friendliness. Let’s just hope that this doesn’t happen at the beginning of the Hulk Coaster
