I had to whistle-blow on someone who physically assaulted a resident. I didn't hesitate. The manager let it be known through whispers that it was me and my team turned into what felt like 'Cell Block H". I was hounded, ignored and threatened by other staff members and had no choice but to leave.
I'm not sorry I blew the whistle. The day I left, I turned to those other staff members and said, "If any of you believe I was wrong to tell the manager about what happened, then you shouldn't be working here with vulnerable adults"
I know I was a good support worker, but because of the indiscretions and the hounding after I blew the whistle, I will never do this sort of work again.
