This was really interesting and also tragic in many ways. I wonder what gaming looks like in the parallel worlds that got the Nintendo PlayStation and Super Nintendo CD.
Sony was growing into other markets. They started to enter the movie and music (label) industry. Nintendo felt that Sony would take over Nintendo and absorb them into Sony. That's why. Not this rehashed myth.
@@Auxodium it's not a myth though. Nintendo felt threatened by a deal it already jumped on thinking they may go independent after a while, so they betrayed them. It's all pretty clear vut
That was a really fun watch my friend. I never knew until much later that Nintendo and Sony had made any deal of this sort so I don't remember the great betrayal that was Nintendo's 11th Hour coup de gras but I definitely remember the launch of the Playstation. What a great time that was! You had the emergence of 3d with SEGA Saturn and then there was the new kid on the block Sonys Playstation (then Nintendo 64 later) it was a true evolution happening right befor our eyes.
Honestly was an amazing era to see as a 90s kid. It's a shame we can't get that kinda excitement nowadays as we did then since technology took big jumps
@@TheObsessiveGamer It is to bad, isn't it? I still wonder what would have been if we received the Play Station/SNESCD. I sometimes do think by myself, hotdamnit if the playstation just flopped and the sega saturn became successful, then nintendo would,ve never regretted cancling their play station project with sony ,same thing with sega who rejected a deal to co’operate with sony, altrough you still can find sony chips inside the sega CD and early models of the sega saturn soit wasn’t all black and white😁
and don’t forget the sega saturn as well because early models of the sega saturn also do containsome sony chips inside, now in case you gonna do some research to it then i definitely would appreciate if you gonna make a video about it as it might could flip upside down the videogame history, you might call it ‘left over assets between sony and sega’😁👍 @@TheObsessiveGamer
There was never going to be a "Nintendo PlayStation". The PlayStation was always going to be a Sony product. Look at the prototype. Do you see a Nintendo logo anywhere on it? This myth that Nintendo "created" their greatest rival is just that. A myth. Once Sony decided they wanted to get into the video game industry, they became Nintendo's greatest rival, because they were willing to do anything (including lose money for well over a decade) to succeed. Nintendo very wisely extricated themselves from a deal that would have seen them become, essentially, a second party working for Sony and the entire industry would have been worse off for it.
Course it wasn't going to be called that, it's just a fan name to refer to the collaboration. However it was still a collaboration between the two, thus they both had a stake in it and share. It required the SNES to run afterall. So yes they still did create their greatest rival with that betrayal, but as you stated it still could have happened anyways if Sony built themselves up using this and went independent after. Basically Yamauchi's worry. Eitherways they may have been damned if they did, damned if they didn't
Crazy to think Sega and Nintendo could of still been alive today if they just gave the young buck sony a chance to be an ally, but made him into an enemy 😈

Sega destroyed themselves with confusing addons to the Genesis.
True they should have been focusing on just the saturn instead of releasing 10 different ways to play genesis/megadrive
“$299” 🔥🔥🔥
That beginning clip of Crash is the icing of it. Nintendo created their own worst nightmare competitor in history.
Pretty much. That clip being in the beginning was set there afterall to set the tone of the whole video afteall haha
But now Soyny is collapsing and Nintendo is back on top, luckily.

I wish some game prototypes for the Nintendo Play Station leaked, and we had a NPS emulator. That'd be fun to play.
