These videos you do on dpf management are so in depth. Thank you for explaining the jargon in a way that makes sense. I’ve had mine chemicals cleaned already and writhing a few weeks the light is back on and am wandering if the inlet manifold needs a clean too. I’ll mention it to my garage when it goes in on Monday and hope I dont trip over my words haha
Great series of videos, I wish I'd had this knowledge when I bought my Subaru. Can I ask what this cleaning tool and process is called as I'd like to find a service centre nearby me who is able to do this. Thanks
Hi Brett & all, My partner has a 2011 Diesel Forester turbo that we have cleaned the soot from the intake in an attempt to stop DPF regeneration from activating continuously and fuel diluting the oil. Good news is that seems to be much healthier so thank you for the advise. We have one remaining fault which we can’t pin point. At mid rpm on heavy throttle in first and second gear the engine has a large hesitation. I monitored it with a scan tool which pointed to a drop in fuel pressure at this point when logging actual fuel pressure vs demanded. Demanded not showing a drop. I changed the fuel filter which didn’t help. Not sure if I should be looking at the AFM or the potential of a faulty fuel high pressure fuel pump ? Hesitation seems to be a common complaint however I wasn’t able to find a common solution. Interestingly if I continue to drive spirited the problem goes away and returns after a period of soft driving.
Wondering what city you’re in, I’m hoping Melbourne. 2015 Subaru Outback with the diesel fuel filter icon flashing. White smoke occasionally after starting and warming up. . I drive freeways. Haven’t noticed it on the freeway but maybe smoke is dissipating with the speed 😅. Thank you for your knowledge.
I'm preparing to do the same thing on a BMW 335d. Any concerns with damage to the DPF with this chemical? BMW does a walnut she'll blast for their gasoline engines to address this problem but has yet to address the diesel as far as I know. Thanks for the video!!
I'm in FNQ. Can you recommend anyone in the Cairns area please? I have a Subaru MY10 2.0D which I love and want to keep in tip top Condition. I think that it needs attention now.
A microphone on your shirt and a cameraman with a steady hand and movie light would make the video more watcable and useful but I do like your concept and setup. I too am unfortunate enough to own a Subaru diesel and have found the regen algorithm on the Subi is definetely crap. Geez, I wish I still had my old Falcon
Hi Brett, and great video's especially for those cursed to buy this car like I was. You mention the two rubber hoses one has to keep an eye on, for the DPF preventative maintenance on it. Could you kindly provide their proper names & or part number? Cheers!
I wish you are based in Adelaide... Subaru is a great car but I am stressing out with this flashing DPF light every four months. I service regularly & service from Subaru too 🙁
Hello MRT, I am having an issue with a Forester 2.0 diesel from 2011. It threw all the codes for PDF and the car had gone about 190k's. Faulted PDF with 87% fill and it got changed by a certified mechanic. Car drove perfect a day, then threw all the codes again. He did reset the PDF but car is now throwing the same codes which are P246C, P2463. I checked the hoses as you instructed and although there is a bit of seeping of soot from the flexible intercooler piping there are no cracks or other issues with the pipes from i can see. Any ideas?
Early subaru diesel models 2008+ are known for having dual mass flywheel problem, therefore the main crank shaft broke and the engine suffered severe damage. Can you tell me if the problem persist with 2011+ models..? Tnx
Interesting video thank you for posting. May I ask with a turbo diesel and the soot problem would it help the engine to use the Shell V power +nitro diesel which is meant to have a far lower soot level and to blank of the EGR valve to prevent the soot from entering the system in the first place. Any thoughts on this would be grateful. Thank you.
If I had a mechanic like you local to me, I'd feel confident buying an Outback Diesel. But I don't, so I will opt for a 2012 3.6R so I get the timing chain and none of these issues.
Bret have you much experience with range rover 4.4 v8 diesel. My one is using oil had the main turbo changed but its still using hell of alot of oil any advice m8 here in scotland
@Reuben Rosolin cheers boss i will try a relative compression test just gettin into scope just for learning if nothing else. Thanks and much apprecition for your clips
Not related to the dpf, I had the 2l. D for 2 weeks. It's 8 years old with 63k miles on the clock. Today it started to slip clutch in 4th and 5th where on acceleration the revs go up but the car does not move faster. Then the smell from the clutch is bad. Is the clutch on the way out? :(
Ps. I have put a stop to any dpf problems using high-grade diesel. Those cheaper supermarket ones use bio diesel that was giving problems. That is in a VW 1.6d engine in my Skoda that I use in my driving school.
i hava an outback 2016, dpf and agr were made new at 160.000km, but it does not work dpf signal flashes, recuperation is on and oil is diluted and diluted...i drive long distances on highways..my subarudealer has no idea, what to do...i was in innsbruck yesterday and the car startet smoking, too much oil in it..i reduced the oil...thats all,i can do...so what can i do
Can engine remapping cure any of the mentioned issues? I have the exact problem you’re describing. After chemically cleaning the dpf. The oil dilution error came up after but was reset. Now the whole Christmas tree lights story is back on again after driving for less than 100km..
Many thanks for your reply. It was more of a desperate cry for help really as I've run out of options at this point and the only way out I see is selling that car.
Far better solution is to remove the filter and have it proffesional cleaned. There is a company in Ireland called Wallacedieselelectrics that can help you out... With their cleaning capacity you get filter that is as good as new one!
So why is this not widely recognised as a piece of shit design problem. Surely an easy ecu upgrade. Subaru are telling me to drive on freeway every couple of days. That is just ridiculous.
or you could just get rid of all that emissions crap to make it run the right way. turn off the codes and you're back on the road with more power, fuel economy and reliability.

What state in Australia are you in? I was thinking of finding a garage to do the chemical clean.
So glad you mentioned the issue with the Oil Dilution reset, saved me a whole lot of upset.

Thanks mate this video has helped me understand dpf issues with my car so much better!

not a solution, you need atune to stop it

100% stuffed :(
Yep, new one already fitted. ;)
But now it's won't eject a CD :(

How often this type of service should be done and how much is the cost of this treatment?

the DPF and EGR has limited access via the ecu tuning Oil dilution is a separate problem to the DPF

you said at 4:01 you can buy a cable to interface wiht the vehicle... can you provide a link to one? or tell me where i can get one?
contact MRT direct :)
I read that an ultrasonic clean works to remove ash build up from so many regenerative. U guys do that too?
no we dont asa we have not seen it done successfully
What chemical are you putting into the engine ?
supplied by BG
Do you still fix dpg issues

Hello, good day, can you give me your contact details? Because I have a Subaru forester diesel got a lot of smoke when I driving.
So why is this not widely recognised as a piece of shit design problem. Surely an easy ecu upgrade. Subaru are telling me to drive on freeway every couple of days. That is just ridiculous.
Even that doesn't work. The design is pure crap
or you could just get rid of all that emissions crap to make it run the right way. turn off the codes and you're back on the road with more power, fuel economy and reliability.
emissions is something we all need to deal with more and more :(

I rallied aMY10 forester TDI for two years with a single mass replacement FW and had reliable use
