Then the episode ends with nothing resolved and Julius repeating the same thing from the beginning. Like I said there are tons of times where Chris gets what's coming to him, this isn't one of them.
It is about "being the bigger man." As in, it's not about being right, it's about doing what's best. In this case, the mom wanted her oldest son to do a minor task: do the dishes. Honestly, I can relate to Chris in this episode because I'm always the one having to do everything like washing dishes, giving my mom and brother drinks, etc. My mom is basically the real life version of Rochelle which is not surprising. Me and my mom argue about things like this, but my brother has to de-escalate the situation before it goes too far. My brother is basically Julius in this situation because my mom always brings him into the argument when she doesn't get her way.
Chris: Go on!!!! Do it!!!!!! Julius: I just need to understand why you would talk back to your mother like that. Chris: Drew and Tonya were watching TV. Julius: And? Chris: It's not even fair!!!!! Julius: The number one rule was you are doing what your mother is told you to do. Chris: And what else? Julius: But, you might win the war, or lose the battle. Julius pauses. Julius: You need to apologize to your mother!!!!! Chris: Why?!!!!! Julius angrily yelling: SHE WOULD MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 Chris closes his eyes and starts crying 😭😭😭😭😭 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I know how you feel Chris just because your mom making you do all the chores while Tonya and drew sit and watch television after you go to school and you have to go to work after school that's not fair she is crazy person
Sonic Playz he was just standing up for himself he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful or anything but why he gotta do all the work he’s only one person he’s has feelings too he’s a human too...
My mother treated me like this for years...the only reason why I was made to do the chores was because it was easier than getting my brothers to do it and she didn't want to do them. She loved to say how I didn't do much in the grand scheme of things. Then I got cancer...and I had to have major surgery and chemo...I could just barely take care of myself, and It was a miracle I could even bathe myself and use the stairs to leave my room and get food...it was 3 days after my discharge before my father started coming home from his 14-hour shifts to a home that was completely a wreck with younger kids running around unshowered at midnight (on a schoolnight). When he confronted my mother about it, she tried to blame me and say that I was being lazy all day. My father looked at me and said "Are you serious!? She can't even BREATHE properly right now!"...she genuinely thought that calling me lazy was the right thing to say to my father, a cancer survivor. Its funny...my mother used to act like she was keeping a tight ship, but she put her job on me for so long that she genuinely forgot how to be the parent.
I think this was about Rochelle asserting her dominance over the eldest sibling. By Chris defying her orders the first time around she felt the need to make an example of him.
This is so wrong. Rochelle hardly works, all she does in life is domestic tasks. Chris works on Docs AND studies (on a school far away from his house, full of racist kids and teachers). And he is still supposed to do everything? Just because he is, like, 2 years older than his siblings?
If I was Julius I think I would’ve just did the dishes myself. That one time doin the dishes could mean more than Chris doing the dishes a thousand times
@stryfetc1 i agree. You shouldn't have to apologize for being right. It's ok to not like being wrong, but if they're gonna be mad and have an attitude about it, then they're the one with the problem, not you
Disagree with the message his dad gave him in this episode. Neither person in a relationship is always right and if you always have to apologize even when your right it's a toxic relationship. Leave and find someone else.
This episode was so real for me, though i aint black i got the same culture in this case. "The oldest has to work cause the young ones dont know how" it just sucks man
It ain’t about the damn dishes! It’s the principle of the matter! Chris busts his ass helping around the house, helping w/ Drew and Tonya up to that point, managing work AND school, getting up early to catch three buses to go to a school where he only has one friend and he gets bullied, profiled, and victimized on a daily basis. The LEAST Drew and Tonya could do to help them is to start cleaning up after their own damn selves. They’re certainly old enough to start doing it! And if Rochelle wants what’s best for Drew and Tonya, you’d think she’d get the idea to do the same w/ them that she and Julius do w/ Chris! Because in spite of all that shit Chris has to deal w/, look how good he’s turning out! He takes it all in stride, keeps trying his best, and has a good code of morals and sense of right and wrong. A big part of that is because of the responsibilities he has as the oldest in helping his parents manage the house and his siblings while they get to do whatever they want. As a result, Drew, while still a good kid, is a bit careless and prone to doing stupid things now and then (ditching school to try and meet Wayne Gretzky and giving his parents a heart attack thinking he and Chris are missing.) And Tonya… Good Lord, what a freaking brat! Rochelle puts so much on Chris that not only is she screwing over him, she’s screwing over Drew and Tonya too because now they’re not learning or being instilled w/ the same values of responsibility and discipline that Chris has!
People are missing what Julius is saying. Sometimes, you gotta pick your moments and if being silent keeps the peace, then be silent. Fighting constantly is a losing game, even if someone is irrational, SOMEONE has to be the bigger persona and walk away.
Your last sentence holds the key - Chris did walk away. His father tried to get him back, and convince him to keep enabling without any change or compromise to the situation. If he can’t reason with his Mom, then not being in her house is the best that he can do to not fight her instead.
Guys I was actually watching this episode today here in my house, and honestly this episode made me cry.. I really love everybody hates chris.. greetings from brazil America ❤❤
I understand both of their points. Rochelle is a housewife that does a lot for her family. So yes her kids can help out every now and then. But Chris’ point is that he’s not the only child living there along with he gets in trouble for everything Drew and Tonya do. He got tired of it.
Some wemon are like this. Never wrong, can NEVER look bad, "perfect" with everyone, always in the right, the victim then you prove them wrong, and will never apologize when they do you wrong.
"You'll finally understand what it is like to be a man, where right or wrong, you still got to be sorry." **I don't think even the writers could understand how much this would mean 20 years later**.
The problem I have with this scenario is that the parents don't seem to understand their own position. Chris should not apologize and do the dishes because "men are always wrong even when they're right." That's a mentality men take so they can have peace within their own household. It's the path of least resistance and it's only worth it if having a relationship matters more to you than anything else, which for some men, that simply isn't the case. Telling the right person this is a good way to convince them to never be in a relationship. Should Chris have done the dishes? Yes. Because life is going to throw unfair responsibilities at you, especially when it comes to your family. When it does, you have three options: Deal with it, try to change the circumstance, or quit. Sometimes the consequences of quitting or changing your circumstance are much worse than sucking it up, so you have to deal with it, at least for a while. This should've been a lesson for Chris that sometimes you have to deal with a situation that seems unfair to you or a moment for Chris to take charge. Since he's in charge of the washing the dishes, he gets reign over the sink, certain foods, etc, and if Rochelle starts complaining, he could respond with "This is best for getting the dishes washed. Do you want dirty dishes?". Chris is older, so his parents should indeed expect more from him, but in the end, he should also be getting more benefits because of that. Props to the dad for not just straight up beating Chris which is the mentality in a lot of black households.
The fact that she ignored him while he was at the able and spoke like he didnt exist until it was time to bark some orders made me smile heavily when chris said no again and continued eating.

We all have/had unperfect parents, some people even hard to call "parents" or "familly", cause the way they treats their relatives. Still, you have to make a choice. I think it's better to clean up some dishes and a table, know what i mean ?
Your parents are not the person you're going to make a life with. It's a cicle, one day it ends. Normally it ends in early age, you live about 20 years maybe a little more or less, and then you are "free". This episode was a real gift, watched when i was about 14 years and my mom and i was like cat dog. My mom had hard times and it is a person who needs love and help. Maybe like anybody else. But she raised me in real young age. Today i'm an adult and I can understand more the difficults she had. I could understand this more clearly as i grow up.
** It's not about accepting unfair things, it's about moving on **
You can't win everything, neither change people. All you can do is help and take care of yourself, just moving on for better days.

Chris: It's not even fair!!!!!
Julius: What wasn't even fair?
Chris: I was just the only one going to do the dishes while Drew and Tonya are watching TV.

So what I'm basically getting here is marriage is terrible.
Luke Lichtenthal depends who you marry not every woman is like her
Luke Lichtenthal it's the worst
theres a reason a shit ton of marriages end up in divorce. its a farce
Man just go mgtow

I know how you feel Chris just because your mom making you do all the chores while Tonya and drew sit and watch television after you go to school and you have to go to work after school that's not fair she is crazy person
Davion Tittle I agreevbut he was also wrong to talk back so they were both wrong
Chris didn't mean to talk back to his mom he just want his little brother and sister to do more work around the house
Sonic Playz it’s not talking back it’s standing up for hisself
Sonic Playz he was just standing up for himself he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful or anything but why he gotta do all the work he’s only one person he’s has feelings too he’s a human too...
Isaiah Tidwell-Washington yeah exactly he was just defending himself it’s not fair for 1 person to clean up dishes
You know they’re good actors when everyone is actually mad 😂😂
Lol his scream hahahahaha

I think this was about Rochelle asserting her dominance over the eldest sibling. By Chris defying her orders the first time around she felt the need to make an example of him.
This is so wrong. Rochelle hardly works, all she does in life is domestic tasks. Chris works on Docs AND studies (on a school far away from his house, full of racist kids and teachers). And he is still supposed to do everything? Just because he is, like, 2 years older than his siblings?
Very fucked up if you ask me, what's sad is how it's glorified and normalized in these households, she's treating him like a slave/dog
@@natemorgan1996 Many households have a scapegoat child.
I love how he told him the unfiltered truth of why he should apologize. No bullshit about it being the right thing, just honesty.
"Well, it's been nice knowing you, America." Perfect line.
My dad had similar conversations with me growing up...which turned into conversation about not to get married. Funny how that works
Rochelle “so did u talk to him”
Julius “I talked to him”
Rochelle “good 😌 Chris clean the table and do the dishes”
Chris “no”
Well it's been nice knowing you America
Chris goes to school and works.
Plus he’s constantly looking after drew and Tanya when they screw up.
Least they could do is some dishes.
I feel like Chris' dad's advice is why fewer men are wanting relationships today, more trouble than they're worth if that's how you'll be treated.

Wrong or right , you still have to be sorry
@stryfetc1 i agree. You shouldn't have to apologize for being right. It's ok to not like being wrong, but if they're gonna be mad and have an attitude about it, then they're the one with the problem, not you

Disagree with the message his dad gave him in this episode. Neither person in a relationship is always right and if you always have to apologize even when your right it's a toxic relationship. Leave and find someone else.
Or MGTOW
And pay pension for 3 kids? Leave is not even an option after that...

Never apologized for something you don't feel sorry for, happy wife happy life is the worst mindset to have
It made sense for Chris to do more of the chores when his siblings were little but they're way older than he was when he started doing them.
It’s crazy how accurate this is because my mom was just like this . Most annoying thing when growing up
“Cuz she will make your life miserable”
“You mean she didn’t even start yet?!”

Had it been Tanya they would have let her walk all over them bc she was the only girl and the youngest
This episode was so real for me, though i aint black i got the same culture in this case. "The oldest has to work cause the young ones dont know how" it just sucks man
Julius walked up on Chris like Jason 😂😂
0:43 like it hasn't been already
People are missing what Julius is saying. Sometimes, you gotta pick your moments and if being silent keeps the peace, then be silent. Fighting constantly is a losing game, even if someone is irrational, SOMEONE has to be the bigger persona and walk away.
Your last sentence holds the key - Chris did walk away. His father tried to get him back, and convince him to keep enabling without any change or compromise to the situation.
If he can’t reason with his Mom, then not being in her house is the best that he can do to not fight her instead.
If I had Julius as a father…. Man 😔❤️I need one
Most of what she threatened him with “not your stove, not your pan” etc were things Julius paid for lol
"Wrong or right, you _still_ have to be sorry".... what kinda BULLSHIT is that😡???
Shenruss ikr! Moms wants you to do the dishes!
Shenruss yeah I know right
It's the kind of bs that kills you. Chris Rock's real life dad died of an ulcer when Chris was just 16
I didn't realize how accurate that rule was until I got married
After they took Christmas from him I’m glad he stood up for himself
Terry crews was always a dad like figure for me growing up with this show ❤️
As a married man I can confirm this statement
"You'll finally understand what it is like to be a man, where right or wrong, you still got to be sorry."
**I don't think even the writers could understand how much this would mean 20 years later**.
I didn't know everybody hate chris was dropping red pill knowledge lol
That's y I love to do my own chores to make me feel good to people like they was on a mission with a good success
I still to this day don't see why no one else had to clean the older sibling gets treated like shit bc I'm one of them 😩
Damn, I'm sorry that shit happened to you
Me too brother. Me too
In my family it was the middle child that kind of got the Chris treatment.
