1. The guy with the sunglasses is Chris's manager who found him after work at that restaurant.
2. They zoom in on 735 cause that was Chris's real GED score, which means he passed.
3. They end it without " Everybody hates Chris" because for the first time throughout all the seasons nothing happened to him at the end of the episode so there's no reason for the theme. You're Welcome!
Thanks

technically the first time was in Everybody Hates Foodstamps, because nothing happened to him and he was just yelled at for no reason, which they acknowledge right after.
For those who are new or still confused, Julius is Chris Rocks actual dads name who passed away. If the continued the series Julius/terry crews would have to be killed off and that would be really sad, but it was at that moment his life turned around for the best.
Everybody knows by now man every single comment is saying that exact thing
Why does the show even take place in the 80s? Chris Rock was 22 in 1987
@@kanak237 Julius was 19!! Lol
Oh
But Julius' name in the show isn't actually Julius, that's his middle name. His name is Christopher Julius Rock II, not the same people. One is a fictional character inspired by his dad. Ergo, they can take liberties.
I heard a year later Julius died and if they brought back the show it would be hard without him and that was $524.27 worth of a funeral

Even if you don't know Chris Rock's personal history, it's obvious he passed. The only reason he had to drop out of school was because he was constantly late, and that was due to a combination of having to take 2 buses to school and Caruso beating him up.
The only subject he ever had trouble with was Math, but his grandmother helped him with that, and Greg helped him with science, so he was clearly smart enough to pass, just not punctual enough.
it was in the series and it was 3 busses no hate just saying

This scene was replicated as The Sopranos ending sorta like a tribute. The mysterious dude is chris s agent who heard him tell jokes earlier. He did pass his g.e.d. This was the best ending to the show you can do. Nothing spectacular, cause in the end. It was just the life of Chris Rock when he was a kid. Its this strange feeling, it just leaves you in a state that you dont know how to feel or react. Like there wasnt any build up it just ends. Reminding you of what this show is.

IAmMistaOrange yeah but the show takes details from Chris Rocks childhood. This episode is in 1987, Julius Rock died of a back ulcer in 1988.
At least Chris got the last laugh on everyone that bullied him, including Caruso himself.
Finn The Goldfish yeah this show is based on his real life
Nothing to see here, just a total piece of shit but it’s exaggerated by a lot.

I remember thinking this was such a weird finale when it aired. Now I get the context. And it makes the Bon Jovi singing even more eery, because it's foreshadowing that they'll get through Julius' eventual death.
Yeah
The song that was playing ends with “we gotta hold on…” and in the sopranos it ends with “don’t stop!” How brilliant
Living on a prayer? Lol one of the most famous songs of all time, surely
Yup , that's why both the scenes are very relatable.
This ending is pretty sad. No more laughs, no more Greg and Caruso. It strikes the viewer with the harsh reality of things: in real life everything moves on. Chris gets into comedy, all the high school drama ends for him and unfortunately his dad passes away.
It’s realistic
I wouldn’t say ending was depends how u look at it
It's super eerie, it makes me feel like something bad is about to happen. I think a lot of other people feel that way cause of the white dude in glasses. It just feels unnecessarily ominous. Chris' dad dies a whole year later, so I don't know why they made this scene like this 🥹
@@morningivy it was a parody of the Sopranos ending
One of the saddest moments in television that will stay with me forever
Why was it sad? This marked a new beginning in many ways. The book closed on one aspect of his life and sure it was tragic but he was strong enough to push forward and become something more out of the adversity. Comparatively speaking going off the source this is where Chris would work at several restaurants and begin doing comedy. Some of his earliest work were a way to honor his father and his career was built being in the next generation of black comics.

Chris scored a 735 on the GED. He needed a 800-1000 to pass. So first of all, Chris is essentially Chris Rock the comedian. After his GED, Chris Rock worked at a Red Lobster, to explain the Red Lobster conversation. The guy at the bar that Chris looked at is supposed to be Chris Rock's manager. The reason the show ended like this is because Chris Rock's father died in 1988 once year after the ending.
Also this hole thing is an homage to the Soprano's
So Chris' father dies a year after he fails the GED?

@Junior Tarantino no it was created by breaking bad
For those wondering, the show DID NOT end because Chris Rock's actual father died a year after these events, it was either because he felt the need to end it here or it was cancelled
Exactly. There was no more material left for him to serialize his teenage life. He was working dead end jobs for a few years UNTIL he started doing comedy. So it would’ve been very repetitive showing him living his life doing minimum wage jobs for a few years before he took a stab at comedy. Props to Chris Rock for exiting a TV show before it became too stale. He did the right thing. Tho I’m sure we’d all love more seasons.
Online it’s said that it got cancelled because they move the tv spot, and indigent reach the right audience…. Kinda sucks. I discovered this show now in 2023 and I would’ve loved to see more
Probably cancelled. But neither Chris Rock nor the producers at the time actually confirmed that it would be the final season.
Terry Crews said in a brazillian interview, the show was cancelled because the ratings for it didnt reach a good standard at the time to continue.
The show wrapped on season 4, but once the show was licensed to broadcast outside the US, it became famous, and everyone fell in love with it.
Terry himself said that He became Julius thanks to Chris since they were filming The Longest Yard and his family came to visit him at the set with he being himself, Chris who saw that came to talk to him later about a project he is working on, once the Longest Yard Wrapped, chris sent the script for him by mail at home, the moment he unrapped the package he laughed at the title due to being a joke at everybody loves raymond, then his lines and a picture of the Real Julius dropped and he saw the name Julius Rock, he read the script and saw that Chris trusted him to be his father, all of the characters in the show were mix of people Chris knew, his mother is a mix of her and her sisters and neighbors, as his sister, Julius was the only real person there in the show.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW This is a spoof/homage to The Sopranos that ended the same way with a black screen.
BreakingBeauty4 thank u hahah I was searching for this comment
Chris gets whacked at the end?
If anyone remembers from an earlier episode (Everybody hates substitutes) the substitute guy gave Chris a practice test for a much more important test later on, which he received a 92% on. Since he got a 735/800 (92%) I think the previous episode was kinda foreshadowing leading up to this. Also, the substitute ended up dying at the end of the episode, and Julius dies at the end of this series, even though it wasn't shown. I find that an extremely fascinating similarity.
The dad doesn't die
Nice theory!
cashtheyen That doesn't make sense though. Chris Rock is currently 50 years old. In 1987, he was 22 year old and his dad passed away in 88'.
At 1:14 the camera zoom on his dad's truck showing the number 735 so that's probably referring to the score he got.
The GED is out of 1000 so he failed...
Just to let you know Chris does past and if you regard drew saying there giving a job at red lobster that is where Chris goes to work after wards the show ended because the creater Chris rock father died in the 1988 one year after this episode is based in and the character Julias is base on Chris Rock's dad so Julia's dies in the show leaving the show ending.Last if you look at the number on Julia's truck that is Chris's test score

To anyone living during the time Bon Jovi made this song And was going through the struggle that they were talking about trust me I feel you.
They ended the show because after Chris got his GED results in real life, his father died shortly after. He didnt want to go through the pain of showing it so they ended it. Great ending.
Loved this scene, the song choice. Not only because it speaks to his anxiety waiting for the results, but because it reminds the viewer how much this family struggles throughout the whole show. Comedy sure lightens it up, but their lives are far from easy, and they are far from perfect to each other. But yet there is a sense of momentum, they keep pushing, and it's one of the few things they all have in common.
It's a spoof. Nothing more.
Which explains why Livin' On A Prayer was playing! It was released a year prior and it was a big hit in 1987. Especially in the New York/New Jersey area.
That made the scene what it was
This series is still just as good today than when it came out. I’m 25 😂
When I was younger and watched this show I remember I used to laugh all the time!
I'm 20 now, a month ago I decided to watch all seasons again, for some reason I felt bad for him in almost every episode.
The racism in the show saddens me a lot. I know it's just a show but I wonder if in the 80's 70's people were so racist like it's in this show.
Anyways, this last episode got me really sad.
Sad because I know the show was cancelled and sad because I heard Julius passed away just a year after Chris got his G.E.D result.
Well, it's an amazing show, I watched it with my family over 10 years ago, I just miss when I used to laugh more than pay attention on the details.
Damn what a deep summary

It was a brilliant idea to choose Livin’ On A Prayer for the ending. It has happiness and melancholy, that kind of song that says “- it was a good ride.”

It’s funny because everybody hates Chris started back in 2006 and the Sopranos ended a year later in 2007
Never mind everybody hates. Chris started back in 2005. The show was so popular. The sopranos was still going on at that year, but it ended two years later.

Since the show is based off of the real Chris Rock and his life . they just turned his life into a TV series but Chris got a 735 as it hints on 1:14 the truck # he spent his life as a successful comedian also his first job was working at Red Lobster
The series had to finish on the year 1987, because in 1988 that's when Chris Rock's father past away, as you have seen so far, Imagine how dull is would be without Julius. It was good show overall.
Till this day I hate how they left us on this cliffhanger…
This wasn’t a cliffhanger, really. We know what happens afterwards since this is a show based on Chris Rock’s childhood. He dropped out of high school, took and passed his GED, worked at a lobster restaurant and went on to become a successful comedian.

True
The fact people still don’t know this is a sopranos reference mind boggles me😂
Note: The ending is a spoof of The Sopranos series finale. Also, When Julius parks his truck, the camera closes up to the number 735 which is painted onto his truck. The number is implying 735 was Chris's score, which means he did pass his GED (a 92%), considering GED is scored out of 800.
Note #2: This episode doesn't end with "Everybody Hates Chris".
This brings back memories because I would watch this show every day whenever i was in 8th grade and homeschooled because of covid. All my life this show was a staple in our house but I didnt really sit and watch it until then. I remember seeing this episode and being sad I finished the show
The way they ended this series left me feeling so sad for some reason. It’s almost abrupt.
It parodies the Sopranos
I loved this show. I know what happened in real life, and I understand why it had to stop, but I'll miss it, anyway. The show was funny, and it had nice musics, like Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne), Rock Box (Run DMC), and etc.

Tragic!
It's a homage to the Sopranos
This show was one of the best commedies I've seen. I wasn't paying much attention to some parts of this episode, which was also one of the reasons this ending caught me so off-guard, since this episode looked like it was going to be just like the others. But looking at it now after reading about it, this episode was unique; from Chris' grade being shown on the truck, something that would really just go by unnoticed, to the guy in the shades being his future manager; the episode showed him like he was going to be someone important from the moment he appeared, but it never actually explained it, and all the way to Chris' grade being foreshadowed in the episode with the substitute. Seeing an ending like this coming from a comedy series is... "strange" in a way, though that alone doesn't necessarily makes it bad. It's also really sad what happened to Julius.
Chris, Drew, Tonya, Rochelle, Julius, Greg, Caruso and all the other characters did such a good job with their acting in the show... Im really going to miss this series.
one of the most unforgettable endings
It's a parody of the Sopranos

It took me 5 years to realize this scene is a reference to The Sopranos ending
