Mercy got a little surprise with that hot salsa! Food looked really good.
You all picked some good places to eat. The vertical spit cooking they use to make Al Pastor came from Lebanese immigrants, basically beef shawarma. They still have it in certain areas and are known as "Tacos Arabe".
I like Sidral, which is an apple soda, and Mandarina, a mandarin orange soda, neither is overly sweet.
When I first backpacked down into the central interior of Mexico in 1974, it was virtually impossible to find a "Burrito" that's a northern border state specialty, they don't grow wheat farther south, and that got used for baked goods which came from the Austro-Hungarian Empire when Maximillian was Emperor of Mexico.
At that time, 1974 "Supermercados" {Supermarkets} were just being rolled out nationwide.

I'm curious if it s a machismo thing to eat and boast about how hot you can take sauces? I love medium spice so I can enjoy the flavor, too hot and it takes away from the enjoyment of the dish....too each their own of course..glad your having a good time in Mexico
I like a hot sauce that is hot but still allows for the flavors to come through. Habanero peppers are one of those peppers for me. The heat element for me and many others is somewhat addictive and an endorfin release I guess. I don't think anyone is more manly or macho by the strength of the chili pepper they can handle. Thanks for watching my friend.
