Honestly I was thinking rakta empire the whole time. (Despite design differences) giant mech that can glass a planet seemed like something they’d make. Zeffo were mostly peaceful last time I checked so this mech is a bit odd for them. They did have weapons but none like this one.
@@Doghero780 Good point but the Zeffo did become corrupted but the Dark Side of the Force. That hate and angry could twist their minds to more destructive creations.
@@tristanmilner9511 yeah plus the design stuff does make Zeffo likely. Still, it would be cool if the rakta were referenced. Always wondered if there was a second star forge under construction after the first one.
13:15 That must why the place is uninhabited. It targets cities and technology. It bade a beeline for both the droid and the spacecraft. Whoever made the thing must have just dropped it and let it do Godzilla things. Yes, the Fallen Order fans on Reddit (like me) are freaking out. Yes, I saw all the Fifth Element references too.
Kudos for immediately realizing the Zeffo design in the architecture long before the big reveal. I've not seen any other reactions that had the realization so early in the episode.
THANK YOU for just enjoying the adventure and spending time with the characters without griping that it's a "filler" episode. I feel like no one knows how to enjoy just ENJOY a show anymore if it isn't entirely bingeable with plot from beginning to end. I would argue for all those Clone Wars series fans out there that if *that* show was all plot all the time, there would not be "essential viewing" arcs of episodes to get the meat of the story without all the sides. Just enjoy the damn ride. The visuals on this show are GORGEOUS, the lighting effects are incredible, and I swear that Dee Bradley Baker being able to give all 5 members of the Bad Batch (yes, I'm including Crosshair still, even though I think there is no redeeming him) very different voices is talent that needs to be better recognized. I'm having fun with this show, but I'm starting to get to the point where I watch fewer and fewer reactions because no one wants to just enjoy it like you guys do. The number of people who immediately tag it as "filler" without actually knowing what the end course of the series is drives me nuts.
100% agree. This concept of each episode feeding into an overarching plot that lasts an entire season is pretty new. 80s 90s and even early 2000s shows all just had individual episodes and the occasional part 1 and 2.
I'm usually someone of the similar mind, though for me, this episode did fall a little flat. I think mostly the whole set up with finding a magic compass in a junk yard felt a tad too convenient...But again, maybe that's just me.
After watching this I couldn’t help but think how much this episode felt like the purrgil episode in Rebels; like their showing us something that’s gonna come into play later that we have no idea how important it actually is.
Yep the design really seems similar to all the architeture e tech found about the Zeffonian culture on Jedi Fallen Order. Even the laser beam looked like the ones from the Zeffo droids.
It's a little thing, but the way Wrecker often reacts to Omega's enthusiasm by just giggling delightedly in the background makes me smile every time. And is it filler when you get one of the best "Well that escalated quickly" moments in a long time? :)
Great reaction as always! The reveal that that the "ruins" they were exploring were an ancient walker was awesome and the mech itself was also really cool. I have to say that it was genuinely fucking terrifying. My first thought was that maybe it was a Rakatan weapon (even though I recognised its similarity with a Zeffo) but the more comparisons I see between the mech and the Zeffo Tomb Guardians and the more details I remember about the Zeffo from the game, the more I agree with the theory that it's a Zeffo weapon. I'd forgotten that basically their whole society descended into darkness, not just one leader so it's definitely possible that they would build a weapon on this scale and maybe the planet they were on was a Zeffo colony at some point. It is a lot of fun to speculate on this and see the similarities in the design and function of the mech and Zeffo technology from the game, even if it probably wasn't at all intentional for them to be so similar. Part of me would have liked to learn more definitively what that thing was and who built it, I think it could have been cool if they learned the history of the weapon using the markings on the wall or just seen a depiction of the events that devastated that planet on the walls, something like that but I do also like that they didn't elaborate on it at all, because it means we're free to go wild with headcanon. I really enjoyed this one. I love seeking out treasures and exploring ancient places in stories so this was a really good and fun episode. I loved the Indiana Jones vibes of this one. As they explored the tunnels, I had the same feeling of excitement I felt with the Jedi Temple on Lothal or even the Tombs in Jedi: Fallen Order so this episode really nailed it there. Poor Mel, though. That genuinely had me fucking crying I seriously hate the term "filler". Like you said, if everything was all serious, all plot, we'd miss out on fun adventures like this one and chances to explore characters that might not get their moments in the big events like we've seen with Tech. Not everything has to be deep cut, layered storytelling that changes the trajectory of a series. Most of television and episodes week by week, especially in animated series, are not that. They're just one off, self-contained stories. Most of the time, nothing big really changes beyond the story told that episode. Heck, most of TCW and Rebels followed that structure so it should be no surprise Bad Batch is similar in that way. Shows have always been this way but streaming series in the last few years have just skewed people's perception of television in both good and bad ways. Not everything has to be directly connect, carrying on a massive arc, don't get me wrong, I love that too but there's also nothing wrong with taking stories week by week.
I think many people who didn't enjoy this episode forget that this kinda "filler" episode was in Clone Wars and Rebels, but look at them with rose-tinted glasses because we love the overarching stories. This show is aimed at kids, like Andor is aimed at adults and Mando is for the casual viewer, but for any age. The Disney and Dave Filoni criticism is fine as long as people understand they have to entertain a huge age demographic. Ultimately, Bad Batch introduces a new generation of young SW fans. I love the music, plot, reactions, and theories of this episode, and it has helped me enjoy it more. Personally, I would have enjoyed this episode more if there was more character development, especially in establishing Phee (who we have only seen briefly), much like in ATLA where almost all episodes feel as though there is a point or a moral, like Tech's episode last week. Regardless, I think this episode isn't one of their strongest, but I enjoyed the adventure nonetheless :) Edit: Probably was the wrong place for this comment, since I'm sure all of us here enjoyed it, but oh well XD
Def Zeffo......it was a fun episode.....and no blue donuts, pure blaster shots. It was exciting. Not bad for an animation show. Bad Batch is really good.
A mix of Indiana Jones and Fallen Order in this episode peaked it for me!!! I love the music in it as well as Lucasfilm can rip themselves off at some point, Eric of Blind Wave pointed it out a day ago lol.
“Zeffo Mecha Goji” “Death giraffe” I personally would have said Devine Beast, but those are also accurate. Ancient Mecha Giants with F-You Beam weapons.

Yes, I am not the only one who noticed that H.R. Geiger look to the place. Though I am surprised you guys didn't notice Omega doing that hand thing like that guy when Indy was getting the idol in the first Indian Jones movie. As for Mech it could be Zeffo, but it could also be Celestial. Another galaxy spanning ancient race from the old lore. They were known broke no rival technology advanced civilizations, either conquering or annihilating it and their tech. Which would explain the targeting of the droid and the ship. Plus Celestial tech was some of the most powerful in the setting and they did use crystal based computers.
I’d like to think that whoever made it, they designed it so that if they were to shut it off again and try to capture it for the enemy’s own plans, they made a failsafe so that it would destroy itself to prevent it from being used in the wrong hands.
I think it's either cause the crystal was inserted while the weapon was at full charge, so it couldn't absorb the energy and caused an overload, that or the crystal had already taken in so much energy from the first time it shut the machine down that it couldn't handle it a second time. I lean towards the former explanation.
After watching Ahsoka and having the Zeffo confirmed (sorta) in canon, I think we can say with more certainty that this was Zeffo world destroying tech.

Star Wars adding more ancient civilizations to the lore is fun, we don't need every tomb and buried super weapon to be Jedi, Sith or even Bendu in nature, it's a big galaxy so having random cultures building their own shit makes sense.
