I'm disabled and have chronic pain and this right here is it. The only meditation I need. It never fails. It puts me right back in my body and stops my internal struggle to deny where it hurts. Acceptance is the best pain medicine for chronic pain I've found and this meditation leads you there.
My experience also with MS. Read Catastrophy Living as well long time ago. Kyla, thank you for sharing and putting into words the experience of many. Thank you to Jon K.Z. for showing us the way.🙏
If there were Oscars for most effective meditation tape this would surely win one. Karat-Zinn is so “on”, so fluid, and masterful that even after listening to it dozens of time my jaw drops at how good it is.
An excellent comment. Sometimes I feel more catastrophe than living. Each time I revisit these videos and others (see Oxford Mindfulness) I am reminded that there’s different way forward. Peace and love to everyone who is trying to transcend there suffering and the root of all suffering.
Got to manage and understand within a few months of meditation my back complex pain, been in distress for 30 years. So deeply grateful to the dear friend who introduced me to meditation practice. Pain isn't gone, it is now, just a message about some stress happening in my life. It let me be aware of it and understand the cause.❤
sO, EVERYTIME you get stressed your chemical balance goes out of wack and old traumas get triggered. Potassium folds, too much can create the condition of shock.
This Guru is just phenomenal. One of the best body scans ever. Reduces mind wondering significantly due to the guidance. I have practiced this body scan more than 10 times and this is the KINDEST version any beginner should try. One can discover more and more and notice the words or meaning much more as we practice.... What a service to humanity. AWARD WINNING OLYMPIC LEVEL guided meditation. Thank you.
I've tried different meditations but always come back to the Body Scan. It really works and when I don't want to do this meditation I stick to it and learn all kinds of things about myself! Thank you everyone and Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Thank you so very much, Jon Kabat-Zinn. Thank you for your caring, your guidance, your tender voice and your time. I am very grateful to you. Barbara from Budapest, Hungary
He is great master and great professor, thank you so much, it's my honor to hear your voice and feel my body ! He is the pioneer of modern psychotherapy in mindfulness therapy, the interventions from him helped o lot of people in the world. What a miracle. Thank you Prof. Jon Kabat-Zinn.
My breathing became deeper and more full than I have felt in years! I could feel the emotion behind it. I became aware of the traumaus and anxieties that were present in my shallow breathing. Catching this and finishing the full breath gave me so much more peace and control over my reaction to emotion. Great guide!!

The image of “tuning in” to the body’s messages the way you might tune in to an old radio 📻 is very helpful to understanding how the body scan can be helpful.
I am so caught up in the doing mode. I am so grateful for these few moments of being. How challenging it is - just to be in this ocean of thoughts - this sea of wants wishes and oughts grant me the gift to simply see - this miracle that fate has brought
Thank You for this bodyscan exercise. It really is a super kind way to come into the body and awareness of it. And by the breath being connected with the universe.
Thank you Dr. John for this healing meditation made even more so by the sound of the calmness in your voice. My favourite time to do it is around 5 am on the days I find myself waking then. Lorraine
Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn's intro in this video is actually to prepare the mind's attitude for the practice. Cultivating the attitude of openness, non-judgement and other virtues is integral in practicing mindfulness.
I find the intro gives me a chance to slow down, breathe, and get centered. When I feel impatient, I just try to sit with that instead of reacting to it or judging myself or JKZ. Peace!
Let your mind go free & observe it's behavior by mindfulness. You see it keeps changing from moment to moment by itself. But it's not enough till you see it in dot instead of dash line like before. What you see on your nose all the time is the Law of Three Characteristics of Impermanence. You have just crossed the stream that very few can. More to come till you see the Four Noble Truths. Good luck, pal.
Pat Parks - You must be right. Mindfulness has damaged your mind to the point you can't even spell complete. Chill, buddy. Many people are leading more content lives thanks to the generous spirit of Jon Kabat Zin.
I teach literature and love a lot of books, but “The Mindful Way Through Depression” would be a must-have desert island book if I could only take two or three.
Love your voice and how slow this goes at the start. But it goes way too fast once the parts of the left foot are “scanned”. In one breath you have named all of right foot, ankle knee, thigh etc. please slow it down and give equal length to all body parts! Namaste!
Nice meditation. Thank you. But i am wondering Why all the meditation are donr on a "you" message? I would believe it would make a better inner connection in a "I " saying. Think about that we need to focus on the "I experience..." this and that. Thank you
Auttumn Speh I listened to this last night not to fall asleep, but to help me with my pain, I started falling asleep after 15 minutes, I woke up and turned it off and went back to sleep and had a great one.
From what I understand, one of the beautiful aspects of Mindfulness practice is allowing and acceptance. If you sleep, accept & allow that and another day you might be awake all the way through. Accept and allow that. Non-judgment helps me since my mind has a constant hum of self judgments that I now have some way to witness vs be attached to those thoughts. (More now than before I started practicing).
One thing to be aware of is this is teaching you to be aware while you are alert. Focusing on your body and calming your mind in everyday situations. Slowing down your constant mind narrations. Being present and in tune with yourself. Falling asleep is up to you. There’s no harm. This meditation is mostly practice for when you are alert. Calming your mind. Knowing everything is as it should be. Being aware is important to this meditation. I hope that makes sense. It’s a practice for sure. If your goal is to fall asleep, and this helps, then you are getting out of it what you want. Your goals are yours. Practice for the goal you want to achieve. Enjoy.

@@pustostan9155 its from the CD at the back of the book "the Mindful Way Through Depression", which is itself a great investment
I teach literature and love a lot of books, but “The Mindful Way Through Depression” would be a must-have desert island book if I could only take two or three.
Does it help with dissociation?
I believe it does. I dissociate a lot and this helps me be present with my body. Although I believe this version is sped up, the original is slower.
