  • Jon Kabat-Zinn is Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Kabat-Zinn was a student of Buddhist teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh and Zen Master Seung Sahn and a founding member of Cambridge Zen Center. His practice of yoga and studies with Buddhist teachers led him to integrate their teachings with those of science. He teaches mindfulness, which he says can help people cope with stress, anxiety, pain, and illness. The stress reduction program created by Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness-based stress reduction, is offered by medical centers, hospitals, and health maintenance organizations. www.mindfulnesscds.com

If there were Oscars for most effective meditation tape this would surely win one. Karat-Zinn is so “on”, so fluid, and masterful that even after listening to it dozens of time my jaw drops at how good it is.

Got to manage and understand within a few months of meditation my back complex pain, been in distress for 30 years. So deeply grateful to the dear friend who introduced me to meditation practice.
Pain isn't gone, it is now, just a message about some stress happening in my life. It let me be aware of it and understand the cause.❤

sO, EVERYTIME you get stressed your chemical balance goes out of wack and old traumas get triggered. Potassium folds, too much can create the condition of shock.

I'm disabled and have chronic pain and this right here is it. The only meditation I need. It never fails. It puts me right back in my body and stops my internal struggle to deny where it hurts. Acceptance is the best pain medicine for chronic pain I've found and this meditation leads you there.

My breathing became deeper and more full than I have felt in years! I could feel the emotion behind it. I became aware of the traumaus and anxieties that were present in my shallow breathing. Catching this and finishing the full breath gave me so much more peace and control over my reaction to emotion. Great guide!!

Let your mind go free & observe it's behavior by mindfulness. You see it keeps changing from moment to moment by itself. But it's not enough till you see it in dot instead of dash line like before. What you see on your nose all the time is the Law of Three Characteristics of Impermanence. You have just crossed the stream that very few can. More to come till you see the Four Noble Truths. Good luck, pal.

From what I understand, one of the beautiful aspects of Mindfulness practice is allowing and acceptance. If you sleep, accept & allow that and another day you might be awake all the way through. Accept and allow that. Non-judgment helps me since my mind has a constant hum of self judgments that I now have some way to witness vs be attached to those thoughts. (More now than before I started practicing).

One thing to be aware of is this is teaching you to be aware while you are alert. Focusing on your body and calming your mind in everyday situations. Slowing down your constant mind narrations. Being present and in tune with yourself. Falling asleep is up to you. There’s no harm. This meditation is mostly practice for when you are alert. Calming your mind. Knowing everything is as it should be. Being aware is important to this meditation. I hope that makes sense. It’s a practice for sure. If your goal is to fall asleep, and this helps, then you are getting out of it what you want. Your goals are yours. Practice for the goal you want to achieve. Enjoy.

This is 1.25x playback speed. It's too fast.

I believe this is the original speed; at 1:11 Jon says “thirty minutes” which is the approximate length of the video

Nice meditation. Thank you. But i am wondering Why all the meditation are donr on a "you" message? I would believe it would make a better inner connection in a "I " saying. Think about that we need to focus on the "I experience..." this and that. Thank you

Great idea! It senses and feels right to focus on the "I experience..." Awesome suggestion ✨
