I was a big Harley fan boy, but I wanted to test ride a Indian Chieftain, I rode my Harley Ultra CVO, to one of my local Indian dealerships. I test road a Chieftain Darkhorse, and I fell in love with the Chieftain. After the test ride, I walked into the dealership and asked the salesman how much you would give me for my CVO. He made me a deal I could not refuse. I now have two Indians, but I still have two Harleys. But the Indians ride so much better than my Harleys.

I went into my local Harley dealership and they wanted $39845 out the door on a street glide special which took me 4 minutes to get into neutral. Just greedy, I was able to find the same bike for $34500 out of state. However I rode the Indian cheiftain before popping on the Street Glide and it was ano brainer. The Indian knocks it out of the park. Cheaper, Better equiped, More power, Handled better, LEDs all round. Fantastic Fox shock on the back. I bought the Cheiftain Darkhorse with the Rinehart slip-ons and it's just magical. And I did it for 7 grand less. Harley is going to lose big to Indian if they don't get there act together. Brand loyalty will take you just so far when the difference between the two bikes and there price is so large.

crazy your experience at your Indian dealer. I found the exact opposite. The Indian salesmen were much more open to test rides than Harley, who seemed very bored and disinterested. When comparing bikes, you forgot to mention the Chieftain suspension travel is far superior and the lower felt weight makes it much easier to maneuver than the SGS

The Indian Chieftan is just a better looking bike in my opinion.

I've been riding for 33 years and I can't fathom a frame, an engine, and 2 wheels being worth over $20,000.
Motorcycling took a wrong turn somewhere.

As long as people are willing to pay, they'll keep charging crazy prices.

The question is the engine comparison... do the Indian engines run as hot as the HD engines? Are they made with better engine parts than the M8?

I noticed a fair amount of engine heat on the Harley, didn't notice it on the Indian Springfield or the Super Chief. I hear they have 3 overhead cams which reduces how hard the Thunderstroke engine has to work, which lowers the heat level. I haven't verified that. From what I hear the Indian engines are very reliable.

@@cruisinwithphil not sure they are super reliable... there are plenty of reports by many owners who have experienced engine problems and failures. and for too many, Indian/Polaris is not providing reasonable support. I have no firsthand experience with this. but there are plenty on the internet who have shared their stories.

    Phil, It's amazing that one can test ride a $60K - $70K car, but not a $25K - $30K bike.
That said, I did go to an Indian dealer recently and rode a Roadmaster, Chieftain, and Springfield, and appreciated the Chieftain the most. Granted, all were used. I am looking at going to an HD dealership soon to compare the feel of an Ultra or Street Glide to the Indians and then make up my mind as to which I'd like to get. But I will not be purchasing from a dealership that refuses to let me have some seat time and see if the bike fits me.

I've had two dealerships actually take me on a guided test ride, which I really appreciated. That's customer service and good salesmanship.

Dude you can't be mad at a local dealership you've test ridden at TWICE already putting the kabosh on you riding for your channel.
