looking at 6:35, considering that intel's e-cores dont always get used in games (yet they count towards CPU utilization), its possible that the game is CPU limited and not bandwidth limited. Did you do any tests on this, like lowering the resolution to see if performance increased? Id love to know!
I love the idea of eGPUs. But even Occulink will have a bad bottleneck. We gotta wait until Thunderbolt 5 is a mainstream feature, and not a Razer Blade 18 exclusive.
eGPU even on TB3 is great, but not for gaming. It's awesome for video editing and AI tasks, you can run it even on $200 Thinkpad turnining it into ultimate workstation. Difference for example in Davinci Resolve on TB3 vs PCIexpress are minimal.
While using Blender for 3D rendering you did show performance of combined GPUs so is this applicable for gameing too? Did you have to do anything special to have them work like this? Also, while just using the eGPU, I just have to disable hardware of my internal GPU?
No this does not include a GPU as everyone chooses their own GPU. Including the GPU would make a price of 100$ impossible. People would buy this and then sell the GPU 😅
Wouldn't make sense since the pi CPU would be a hard bottleneck. Also I'm not familiar if raspberry pis do have USB4 or thunderbolt or Occulink. And it might be a hustle if you're not running windows ...

For the mini PC, what about the 1070ti in your PC? This way to see if the difference is as huge as with the 4070. Basically at what point there is the sweetspot for what GPU to use and not lose too much performance. I like USB 4, but I feel like an occulink or whatever USB5 will be, would be more worth it. Thats depend your cpu, If you have highend cpu Which can handle dual gpu, the performance of gpu will double(in term you use dual gpu), But you should remember this, use two gpu without necessary knowledge is disaster, I don't recommend that unless you have proper skill for do that
Man, from what i have heard u can be losing fps bc u not using the oculink cable or at list a connection in the m2 port, thunderbolt is easier to connect but u lose fps

Good Video and good testing :) Only thing You should also consider ist testing on 1440p. Besides the bandwith limitation are lower resoultions more cpu bound while higher resolutions are using more the gpu. It's possible that You see a better performance with the RTX 4070 egpu closer to the desktop at 1440p.
with oculink definitely closer, tb4 or usb just not, tested this with gpd g1 at 1080p which have lower performance than 4070ti difference between oculink and usb4 is like night and day
@@RobRuffMusic you mean the mini pc? You don't need that. I juat used that MininPC to test the eGPU as well. Because that MininPC also has a thunderbolt port. So it can use the eGPU. You could also use a laptop with thunderbolt 4 instead. Or a gaming handheld or really any device with thunderbolt 4 or usb 4.

OCulink is way faster. Even when TB5 comes out, OCulink will still be superior. The only plug I see outperforming OCulink is the new ASUS Mini-SAS which hits 192GBs

@@stansmith7445 it depends on which lower powered GPU you're comparing to a 4070. Main point is the Thunderbolt interface in general is way slower than OCulink. If you're gonna go external GPU, use OCulink instead of thunderbolt every single time.

That is the preferred method. If you still use the output from the main machine, you need to send the signal back through the Thunderbolt/USB port, thus consuming more of the limited bandwidth you need for the GPU.

The eGPU case is as low as 100$. Yes. If you're using a used gpu and PSU you can go as Low as 200-250$. A complete eGPU with PSU and GPU usually costs hundreds of dollars. So complaining about 20$ is a bit.... Well 😬

Yepp I did, not CPU limited.
The 125H "only" is an i5, but it's not the limiting factor here.

Thunderbolt 5 will be 120gbps on displays only but on pcie connections/ egpu it will be 64 gbps so its the same as oculink. 👍

Before you turn on the laptop you have to tun on the eGPU.

The PCIe goes directl to the GPU.
The big 24pin connector of the PSU goes into the eGPU base.

No you can't use both GPUs for Gaming. It's not a must to deactivate the internal GPU, but if you have problems it's an option that might fix problems

Thunderbolt 5 or direct pcie 4.0x4 are better options to avoid 40 GBps bottleneck. At 64-80 GBps bottleneck is minimum, less than 10 fps
Noob disclaimer. Can you connect the gpu output directly to the monitor and if you can, does that help with performance?
