  • Dixie Chopper pioneered the use of a pump and wheel motor drive system in the commercial zero-turn mower industry. Over 40 years later, Dixie Chopper continues to build select models with the traditional pumps and wheel motors with the additional T-Gear Box to extend the life of the pumps.
    In this video, Dixie Chopper Founder Art Evans, tells the story of the hydraulic innovation on some of the early Dixie Chopper models and the benefits of continuing to use pumps, wheel motors, and the T-Box on mowers today.

    I have a 2008 Silver Eagle commercial series that’s still running strong. One belt broke this summer, I replaced all three but that’s 13 years on the original belts!

      My dad still has his 08’ silver eagle too! Only thing he has replaced is blades, maybe 2 spindles and 1 key switch. Best money spent and I’m thinking about buying one for our new home.

      Ole timer I'm getting it from says the pump is bad and I'm just dumb enough to think I can fix it. I am a toolmaker so the chances are pretty good but it could also simply be out of oil and leaking.

       @destro513 DO IT! If you get it up and running, be sure to post some pics to "The Official Dixie Chopper Group" on Facebook, it's a great community of customers, dealers, and factory staff.

    2008 2760 classic with 640 hours still strong in Oklahoma. It’s a bulletproof tank compared to anything out there now. It will suck the birds off the trees.

    Hi I have a Dixon 5501 can you tell me in the tbox what side the side shaft gear goes on . I recently put new bearings in it and it goes faster in reverse than forward.

      We would recommend taking the part/mower to a dealer. Being a Dixon, the T-box could be a different setup.

    I bought a silver eagle used for 1800, it lost power two days later, and a few other issues. In Baton Rouge, would like to have complete go over and get back to spec. What are your thoughts, can I ship directly to y’all?

    What can it be when I start my iron eagle in park but stops when you take the brake off

    • @RhinoBornToLead
      @RhinoBornToLead 11 місяців тому

      Could be a steering lever not being in neutral, could be a seat switch, could be parking brake switch. Start there and take to a dealer if you are still experiencing problems.

    How do these cut in wet grass and bahia grass

    • @DixieChopperMowers
      @DixieChopperMowers  Рік тому +2

      Dixie Chopper decks perform excellently in wet grass. We've performed demo's in wet grass from morning dew or rain and customers have bought the machines on the spot because their current mowers wouldn't cut as well.

    I thought my cheap neighbor next to my farm had a White but driving by I finally see it was a Dixie Chopper so thought I would check out this brand. Somehow after watching this I'm not convinced Dixie is the way to go but is a good machine. I have a very nice 2012 John Deere Z920A /60" deck, 1,500 hrs. that is hard to beat. Weighs about 200lbs. more than the newer M series. It just uses Tuff-Torq hydro's that are very trouble free. Nobody complains about them at all. Mine are clean and working perfectly but I'm about to pull them out to change all seals, filters and fluid before any leaks start. I have everything needed from Tuff-Torq and J.D. Subframe that holds both hydro's and oil tank is very easy to remove and service which is really nice. The main frame is massive, very simular to a 3/4 ton truck. Been very happy with this units power, comfort, mowing quality, longevity and parts availibility. Dixie may be a great unit but pretty sure I'll stick with John Deere which is about all you see on the trailers of commercial mowers in Michigan.

      Thanks for the comment. Still in business and building mowers every day. In fact, we back this drive system with a 5-year or 3,000 hour warranty.

    I bought Hustler super Z in 2008 and have hated it since day one. But I paid cash for it and the dealer nor the reps would help.
    The only reason I did NOT get a Dixie Chopper is they didn't have a dealership near me, and the one thing ALL the professional guys agreed on was SUPPORT. And I was afraid of not being able to get the parts in case it broke. I heard good things about hustler from my mechanic friend that works on mowers used on a big farm. He said the only mower the operators could not tear up was a hustler .
    It is trus that they are built like a tank. The only problem is that it steers 10 times worse than our 1973 Cat D-6c.
    I think I have learned 2things from this video.
    1) I think my problem is a design issue and is probably not economicly feasble to fix.
    2) when we Do find a new house( now that we have retired) I will find a Dixie Chopper dealership, TEST DRIVE one than if it is as good as I think it is, I'm going to buy it then get the Barrett out and put 20/30 rounds into the hustler and then drop it off at the dealership I bought it from.( after I get my air ride seat off it, because that is the only thing I like about it)

      We hope that you do test drive a Chopper before you buy your next ZTR. Also, when you do blow the Hustler up, let us know ahead of time.
