- We take the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE for a road test. It's not an SS, it's not a Z/28, and it's certainly not a ZL1, but it's definitely ready for the track.

I just traded a 2013 Mustang GT for a 1LE. The Camaro is noticeably slower in a straight line but the feel of the car as a whole is much, much more balanced and far more enjoyable to drive.. especially through the twisties.
The 1LE is an amazing package!
Mustang models tend to be quarter-mile packages. Camaros tend to be more track oriented. The 1LE can beat ZL1 track times. the 1LE is designed to stop quicker and recover from stops faster. Put a super charger on it and you'll have your straight line speed again, and then some.
Honestly it's the special package where nobody really knows about it unless you are really deep into camaros
I recently purchased this car and it is such a pleasure to drive. When it lays down the power it is truly a spectacular ride!
Well done! Great car!
Its mental how sticky those rear tires are. You can pretty much muller the gas...
This is the best car I've ever owned. It will never be traded or sold (God willing). This car is the perfect balance of power and handling. The sweetspot in the Camaro's lineup for sure.
Well done!
I purchased my 15 1le about 7 months ago. I've already stacked on about 12k miles on it. I live near the mountains of WV and can say this car is an absolute blast on those roads. Because I grabbed one of the very few remaining 15's I had to deal with no duel mode exhaust. I have plans of upgrading anyways. Between my daily drives to work, fun cruises through the mountains, and my participation in cross country rallies, I am quite pleased with my purchase. I drove a 2016 and yes, the extra HP would have been nice, but the Lt engines are having a bit of growing pains. If I had to list any drawbacks, it would be a bit of cheapness in the interior quality, and the fact that I went through the first set of those eagle f1's in about 7k miles. However, I picked mine up for well below 40k (2ss, Rs) and got a decent set of "realistic" tires.
Good stuff!
The best looking Camaro to my eyes. So much more badass than the current one
I still remember that car.
Just bought a 15 1LE in ashen gray. Awesome car! traded in a 12 ls3 camaro and this is on another level. Great review!
Congrats! Thanks and enjoy!
I couldn't agree more with what you had to say about this car sort of being "underground". I'm purchasing this car next month and I currently drive a 14 SS. Looking for a 15 1LE, I'm very excited! My SS is an automatic so switching to this 6 speed shall be pretty fun.
Brilliant! Let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
Brian Makse I really appreciate your response. Maybe I'll post a video, although my skills are probably not as refined as yours haha. Digging this channel though, I wish it was more popular. I guess one step at a time, subbed and liked a few videos.
kook4u Ha, don't worry about showing off, I don't do it all that often anyway - but definitely post a video when you get it. There's no point to showing off, really. Anyone can do a burnout and I've been "drifting" cars for decades, so there's no need for me to prove it every week. Thanks for the kudos, as well. I think you can appreciate that it's a ton of work, but the channel is definitely growing. 500% growth in subs in the last 6 months, so I guess we're doing something right.
kook4u Shooting video on your own is pretty hard. Then again I tend to make everything overly complicated as I am sure Brian can attest to.
Z not zed, God that's annoying
That's what I said. Z.
Who's Zed? Zed's dead, baby. Z's dead.
That's right...
fuck off atvkid0805 quit being such a chauvinist
Brian Makse In other words Brain I think he wants u to speak American. Then they wonder why the rest of the world dislikes us. I think the British say it the same way also.
I'm usually a Mustang guy but man these new Camaros are sexy. I'd even go as far to say I'd take one over a new Mustang, and I never thought I'd say that.
***** It's like a Z/28-lite.
"This is the Chevrolet Camaro AssAss" I'm dead.
I have loved Camaros/ Firebirds/ Trans Ams ever since I was ten years old and my grandmother took my brother and myself to the $1 movies in 1977 I think it was and we saw Smokey And The Bandit. I have owned several of each and a few Mustangs as well but after reading and watching videos such as this one I know which car I am buying next and it is this one! Thank you for posting!
Thanks, Mike! You really can't go wrong with this 1LE! It's one of the few cars I often think about for the fun I had with it.
Thanks!
Awesome video but I kinda bias being a 1LE owner.
Thanks! Don't sweat your bias, it's a great car!
It is an awesome package. After the whooping it laid out on the new Mustang I Think these cars are going to get as they didn't make a lot of them. I've got its big brother in a ZL1 and I absolutely love these cars. Nice to drive in the street and an absolute killer at the track. I haven't had mine a year yet and I've got over a dozen track days already and loving these cars more every day.
Brilliant. I used to use the ZL1 at racing school as a teaching car. Lots of power, lots of fun!
I just bought this car. 2015 1le with 2ss rs, dual mode exhaust etc. I traded in my 2015 WRX for it. It's fantastic. I got it for 39K US and my dealer gave me 22,000 US for my WRX with 31000 miles on it. Not bad considering I paid 25,800 new.
+SG Carter Congrats! Sounds like a killer deal, too.
I traded in a 2011 Synergy Green Camaro for my 2014 1LE, I miss my former Camaro though the 1LE is so nice to drive. I have never owned a car that would make me take the long way home. Now I do and love the car. I want a new Corvette now and will not trade in my 1LE I love it that much.
Superb! Well done! Thanks for watching!
Got the 2014 L99 2SS but without the 1LE package. I upgraded it with power mods. I want the 1LE package next. I have about 680 RWHP with the NOS turned off.
I checked one of these out (in white and flat black) a few months ago. Very cool car. Great review Brian! Lets see a vid at the track with this soon :)
Yeah, I'd love to get to the track with this, but there are too many cars and not enough time!
Best car review I've seen on UA-cam keep it coming!
Thats high praise mate! Its through the support of viewers like yourself that we are able to bring you this content and continue to grow. Lots of exciting things happening in 2015 so enjoy the ride.
Thanks! We really appreciate it!
If you guys don't mind me asking what's the road noise like at 65-70mph with the windows up? Is it too loud to be able to hold a conversation or is it relatively quiet? Thanks again!
I don't recall it being noticeably loud. It has an active exhaust so anytime you are not really pounding about the car is relatively quite. I would say the NVH was fairly average.
I love the mustang, I own one but this Camaro could make me switch across especially with the new 2015 mustang that looks like crap. This Camaro is a beauty and a beast.
I think they both look great in their own right, but I dig the 1LE and Z/28 Camaros because they just look the business with their wheels and aero bits.
Brian Makse yup
Jake From State Spec for spec, the Mustang is simply more modern and that's undeniable, however, the 1LE has a massive cool factor as well as the requisite performance that makes that particular model really special. The Z/28 is just epic, but that's another story. SS vs GT, though, and my money's on the GT. I'm sure Chevy's not holding anything back with the new Camaro, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Jake From State All good, got notified anyway. We'll be looking after the GT350 and the R as soon as we can get our hands on them!
Jake From State As we always do for a new car, we'll have the review out within 48 hours at most.
I bought the 2013 Camaro SS 1LE 1 1/2 years ago and still make excuses to drive somewhere. Love the video love the the car. Next car will be the new CTS-V 4 door. Cant wait!!
Well done, Preston! The CTS-V looks brilliant. Can't wait to drive it!
Another great video Brian Makse! Still waiting for you to get behind the wheel of the Hellkitty. Can't wait to see that vid :)
Thanks! Guess what? Hellkitty arrives this morning!
Brian Makse I am SO JELLY! Wish mine would arrive already..... :)
Very nice review. I agree with your color (colour) comments. The 1LE in gray or black is absolutely killer.
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
Great review and insights for the driving enthusiast,as always,Brian. Looking forward to getting your impressions of the less-portly 2016 Camaro when it finally hits the streets I'm hoping it will hit the sweet spot between muscle car and sports car as my next ride.
Thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to it, as well. The Z/28 blew my mind and the 1LE is brilliant, so the next Camaro is going to have to be pretty darn good.
Nice package but i had a Camaro would never buy another the new Mustang i think is a much better platform and once Ford offers a GT350 and other special options its a no brainer.
The Camaro is really showing its age now, but that GT350 or whatever they're going to call it is going to be wicked. The new Camaro is also supposed to be brilliant. I think we're going to have a real pony car war!
Brian Makse Phil C
While the Camaro is a 6 year old platform, it had a slight body redesign for 2014, and is still doing fine performance wise. The 1LE is still faster on track than the new Mustang GT Performance pack, and the GT350 was designed because of the Z/28's success. Not sure which will be faster but the Z/28 set the bar very high by going toe to toe with the 911 Turbo and GT-R on different tracks.
Adam S Undoubtedly, the 1LE and Z/28 Camaros are brilliant, but what I don't do is put any faith into what magazines claim for lap times, and that's for a whole range of very good reasons. Perhaps that's a story for another day.
Brian Makse I'd say magazine lap times (aside from where Ferrari is concerned) are a lot more reliable than the manufacturer Nurburgring lap times where, aside from driver difference, a lot of rigging and cheating can go on.
Adam S Those are definitely not any kind of yardstick, and perhaps that's another discussion, but the problem with magazines is that few, if any, editors are qualified to produce ten-tenths repeatable laps. For one thing, Chevy's driver pedaled a Z06 around the VIR long course faster than a magazine could go with a 918. That's just wrong.
Traded my 2012 RS (the one in my display pic) for a 14 1LE, I love it! I put 1LE badges on it so everyone can tell the difference, video is on my channel
Great Review! You provide a lot of details about the car I've not heard elsewhere. I'm looking for a used '15 1LE, so your review is helpful in many ways.
Thanks! Great car!
Love this car. Been going back and forth with getting a used 1LE, used ZL1, or new 6th gen. Perhaps used first so the 6gens can depreciate and then see what I want.
Pretty cool seeing you floor it off the Eglin Mills on ramp haha. It was fun watching you driving around all these area's I know so well.
Ha! Thanks! The 1LE is so cool, but the new one is so much better.
Yeah, the new one is at/or beyond 5th gen ZL1 level in terms of performance. And I love the look. The rear was bothersome to me for a while, but now that they have a dovetail spoiler in the works I like it.
I've seen three 6gen SS' now. One up in Newmarket and two over in Pickering. Go review one of those! Your reviews are cool and moody with great camera work and music choices.
+TheFirstCause Thanks! Our test cars come from the manufacturer, not the dealer. We're working on an SS test, stay tuned!
+TheFirstCause If I had to guess, hold out and buy a new 6 generation. Review plans are in the works, but no set date as of yet.
Nice review Brian Thanks!
Thank you! Thanks for watching this one.
I will be taking delivery of a 2SS 1LE in a few weeks and was starting to have second thoughts about my decision (I was originally going after a Z/28 but the monthly $$ was too much). After watching this video and a couple of other reviews (and going through the comments), I'm now really looking forward to D(elivery) Day!
I haven't even test driven ANY Camaro's....
*****
That's encouraging, GuyDrives! I actually do look forward to taking delivery! Unfortunately it's still at least two weeks away and we don't have much summer up here as it is.
I knew there was a break in period for this car, I just didn't know how many kilometers/ miles it would be. The C/63 AMG 507 has the break in period written on a sticker posted in the sun visor....
Rock/splash guards!? Those a Camaro mud flaps I'm guessing?
***** I have an 2008 Impala SS for winter use; it's FWD and works excellent in the snow.
I never noticed the mud guards on any Camaro before. I'll ask to have them put on.
I'll be sure to like the FB page. Thanks for the notification!
*****
There are two Camaro 1LE pages on FB. One is a closed group and the other has a pick of a rear end, and a rear end of a yellow camaro... which one is it?
*****
TY
I was kind of thinking the same for a while (Z28 vs 1LE) what ended up making me decide on the 1LE was that if you watch dyno videos that 505hp LS7, while 500 sounds great, isn't all that much more than 426hp. And on a dyno the rear wheel numbers close the gap even further. Drop a few basic bolt ons on the 1LE and you can probably match it. If not a cam swap will get you there and then some. And while comparing a modded car vs stock car isn't exactly fair, it's important to note that a $40k-ish 1LE with $2500 worth of bolt ons is a much better bargain than a $75k Z/28. Plus, for anyone who hasn't noticed, GM has made just about every part of the Z/28 available over the counter now. So you can essentially build your 1LE into a Z/28 clone as money allows (or surpass it). Honestly the only thing that would nag at me after taking a 1LE instead of a Z/28 is the motor internals. a Z/28 will laugh at anything you throw at it while a basic LS3 will get a workout with high rev mods or forced induction. If GM had given the 1LE a few motor upgrades (especially forged internals) itd be a 100% no brainer for me. Also personally I love the stealthy aspect of the 1LE. Several of my car buddies have no idea what they are or that they even exist. Every 12 year old boy wants a Z/28 but who drools over the 1LEs? Only the most seasoned performance guys. Plus the 1LE is a car you can live with daily much easier. You have your radio, navigation, AC, heat, power everything, some people can make do with a Z (i could) but the vast majority will hate the raw nature of it. So, my long winded comment ends like this...1LE for the win
That car just loves get a track beating! Get one Brian.
We'll see when spring comes around.
Brian Makse If you wait till spring they are going to show the new 2016, then you'll want to wait for November 2015 but since the Track package will only be available in 2017, by then it's not going to be a Camarodian anymore. Now or Never neighbor! Get some of your tax money back.
Mike Camaro I'm in no rush, Mike. I've got a little racing to do before the year's out and a full calendar of testing great cars before year end, but stay tuned. Who knows what'll land in my garage...
Brian Makse what serie & which racing car do you drive now?
Mike Camaro I just did a Pirelli World Challenge race and have one endurance race coming up before the year is up. Next year's racing program is still TBD.
Get the Camaro with the dual-mode exhaust. The sound speaks for itself!
+pontiacGXPfan Then pull the fuse ;)
As a Ford fan I have no choice but to write Congrats to Chevy on a well made racing inspired car. Wish Ford would have done something like this for the new GT. Lets start with The TREMEC 6 speed transmission they are worth gold and are like racing transmissions. Ford has been going cheap on transmissions lately. Then the suspension on this Camaro is built for road course tracks. Lastly the braking system in this car alone will help produce faster lap times. The outside is the same and the interior is not as nice as a new Mustangs but if u like going fast those things are not as important as the go fast parts. No I am not going to get a Chevy I will just have to wait until Ford engineers get their heads out of their U know what.
Ford will doing something like this. The GT is just the base line V8, they will be making a GT350 shortly. Its said to be the boss 302 replacement, as such compete with this 1LE.
Nick Busato Doubt it... I'd imagine the supposed GT350 will compete with the ZL1 and be price accordingly. The mustang that competes with the 1LE is the GT with performance pack.
Trevor Wray It depends where ford positions the GT350. If its more of a Boss 302 then it runs against the SS 1LE. If it ends up being more of a GT500 style car then yes its a ZL1 competitor. I seem to think its more of the former, or at least I hope it is.
Nick Busato
The GT350 is definitely set up to compete with the Z/28, its basically the same as the Z/28 (also 2000 Cobra R) with N/A motor, weight reduction, stiff suspension, and other track goodies.
Adam S No the GT350R is a Z/28 competitor.
Thank you for another awesome review Brian Makse!! You rock! Have you ever drove the Zl1 by any chance?? If so what were your impressions of it? Seems like an awesome car!
+Trevor Williams Thanks! Yeah, it's on another channel called Four Guys In A Car or 4 Guys In A Car. A long time ago. I'm looking forward to the new one.
+Brian Makse oh my god yes the new zl1/z28 is gonna be truly insane! What did you you think of the new styling compared to the 5th gen??
Sweet review, really do love this car.
I was going to buy a Camaro but then I saw the Cadillac CTS-V and never looked back since.
Great choice. Which model did you get?
Brian Makse I got the CTS-V
Jeremy Esters Wagon, I hope!
Brian Makse I went with the coupe.
Jeremy Esters Good stuff! Just saw one the other day - in the snow.
Hey Brian, I have been thinking about ordering a 1LE. My local dealer does not have one for me to test drive and I am wondering how you think this car would be as a daily driver. It won't be driven in the winter. I just love the look of this car. I test drover the mustang gt with the performance pack and it was nice but I like a bigger car.
Hey John, thanks for watching. As a daily driver, it'll be a blast! The roads are utter crap around Toronto, but the ride is more than tolerable on those roads, and I'm sure you know what you're getting into. Not sure where you are, though. The Camaro's got that low roofline, so your vertical sightlines are a little compromised, but it's not bad. Driving an SS manual will get you close to the experience of a 1LE, but you'll love the 1LE's better suspension, especially the damping. Keep us posted!
Brian Makse
Yes, I live in Western Michigan so I wont be driving it around in the winter...lol. On the west side of the state the roads are decent. The only thing I am a little down on with the 1LE and camaros in general is the interior....after sitting in the new mustang gt it shows how far chevy needs to go to improve. I test drove the mustang gt performance pack and I had a very hard time feeling the clutch engage...almost to smooth. It was a bit floaty at high speeds around curves as well...still it was a great car but I think the camaro looks much meaner and will be the car for me. Thanks.
Brian, seriously, more fun than the z28, besides price point can you elaborate please?
+Parrot & ladder Grip levels are a heck of a lot lower and it's still well balanced, so you can slide the 1LE around a lot easier. I'm not going to elaborate, but I think you catch my drift.
I LOVE MY 2013 1LE!!!
No doubt! Which colour did you get?
Her name is Carli and she is Summit White. Beautiful car!!
EDUBR Love it!
Sir just wondering, how much does this beast cost??
About $45 Canadian as tested.
I still like the 2014 -15 SS and SS 1LE, but my favorite is still the 2013 2SS 1LE. I just don't care the for the taillights of the '14+ and I don't even like the restyled front end and hood in comparison either. Too bad they only made the 2013 model for only one year.
The video quality is sort of odd when in the interior view... awesome vid though!
Thanks! As for the oddness, well, don't ask. It's a remnant of our zero budget production values.
Brian Makse Pfff you do a fine job !
Torrey B Thanks! Still massively in the red, but working on it!
Sorry mate its down to the codec being compressed many times as its passed from the camera to the editing software and then off to UA-cam. Its shows up mostly on clips from my Nikon D3s and the go pros. This will be less of an issue in future content as the transition format wise from camera to UA-cam becomes more streamlined. As the channel continues to grow as does the production values and my skill set. Many thanks for all our viewers as your continued support only helps to build the channel in the future in both the quality and quantity of the videos produced.
Nick Busato Cool man good luck with all that. I liked the video HD quality. For me it was perfect but U will find some UA-cam viewers can spot the smallest details. Its impressive the way they are able to do that.
I had this car for a month now and it’s amazing. The MPG is terrible though, honestly wouldn’t be a big deal if the gas prices were cheap like when this video was made 😅
Those were the best of times! In the intervening years, it seems like the masses have indeed spoken and chose politicians who favour careless, or perhaps even malicious, fiscal policy.
Got mine about a month ago too! Specced out exactly the same as this video color and everything, except with long tube headers/borla atak (highly recommend, but they came with the car so I'm not sure about the dual mode). You're right, gas mileage is pretty bad. It's alright on the highway though! Looking forward to the stage 2 cam.
All about the smiles per gallon right?
"zed28"?
Indeed. How many stamps you got in that passport of yours? Plus, I’m not American.
Brian Makse who gives a fuck where u are. u are american and talkin about an american car. and im sure i have more stamps then u
He's Canadian
Favorite car good video!
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
i'd pull off the black vinyl on hood & install GM's "hotcam"
I want to know what car do you like or prefer more the camaro 1le or the Mustang track pack or are you neutral
+Eric De Loera I prefer the new Camaro.
wow i just purchased an evo x and never looked into this 1LE...damn!!!! i want this a camaro that has a good handle i love this the muscle car that i like the only reason i go with jdm because of the track ready set up. but dammmmmnnnnnn....i have to wait to trade my evo.
This is the last year for the Evo, isn't it?
Brian Makse yes it is. Well there still 2015 release the "final concept" which has 473 hp on it. What do u think of i trade my evo for 1LE? I mean evo x is kinda outdated i only got it coz its the last of its kind. I've like muscle cars but never considered them here in alberta coz of the gas but hey evo's and sti's are not that cheap on gas too. So im thinking this summer to trade for 1LE.
Bonifacio Maguide They won't be selling that super high power Evo in Canada, nor the US for that matter. Probably just Japan and the UK. As for trading, the Evo and 1LE are two different driving experiences. The Camaro is so much more visceral and if that's what you're looking for, then I think you'll like it. You owe it to yourself to at least drive a 1LE.
Brian Makse yes and yes...im having a bit of a hard time to daily drive the evo as ita a more performance car however, i wouldn't mine that feeling off a camaro 1LE. And i have been told that rwd is ok for snow just put a blizzak snow tires in em. This review is so helpful i just don't if i should get it now or wait for 2016 model?. Great review man the best so far coz u tackle lots of area of this car. More power! Ps did u have a review of a 2015 sti?
Bonifacio Maguide Depends on how much snow you get. In Toronto, I could live with a 1LE with winter tires for sure. Thanks and we're glad you liked this video. I'm not sure when the '16s will be coming, and it might be a while. We did indeed review the '15 STI, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/GV2-COU-R5U/v-deo.html
Stop saying zed instead of Z - your not British
+BIG_K your ignorance is showing.
Trust me the white black and red are the best for it
You didn't know that GM could still do cool??? Have you been sleeping in the sewers??
Welcome to FOUR YEARS AGO, a time when GM wasn’t doing much cool due to a small thing like, you know, recovering from bankruptcy.
is it pronounces ze-l1 or Z-L1? I say ZL1
ZL1.
Brian Makse Z-Lone
Really nice video! ;)
Thanks!
I like the ring Brian, where did you get it from lol?
What ring?
Brian Makse 0:37 that one on your right hand
If I said "Your mom" would that be inappropriate? Seriously, it's a school ring.
I'm in Ontario were was this video shot at ?
Cool! We shoot all over southern Ontario when we're here.
Thats pretty cool, looked like a nice area for cycling
MrKAPD Perhaps Nick will chime in and let us know exactly where he shot it. Which clips are you referring to?
Brian Makse 0:45 , 1:09, 1:30, 3:25, mostly the long country roads
MrKAPD Outskirts of Stouffville Ontario for the majority of those clips. Anything car-to-car was shot in Toronto.
Was this review filmed near guelph???
No, sir.
At 3:00 you are right unless you are a Camaro nerd nobody really knows about it they all think it's just a standard ss
I wish there was a goddamn UA-cam video of a 1LE vs a Boss 302. Ford never let it happen (wonder why lol) and now we'll most likely never see one. Sad. Also never understood why the Boss was canceled after just 2 years. Everyone quotes the 69 and 70 as being a 2-year-only run as well but nobody seems to remember 71 had a Boss also. Granted it was a 351 but still a Boss nonetheless
+Evan B The Boss wasn't cancelled. It was planned for two model years from the outset.
The car is cool
Kool Kamaro Klub
What the top speed of the Camaro SS 1LE
I'm looking to get myself a Camaro SS 1LE package I just want to know the top speed of the vehicle with the limiter and without it
Javier orsini I don't think the 1LE has a practical limiter. The tires are good for 250 kph or more. Are you driving on track or on the Autobahn?
I'm buying it for racing and track purposes and i wanted to know if there was a top speed and if it had a limiter?
I did a little Google work and there's no indication of a limiter. What have you heard?
I heard the Camaro SS 1LE have a speed limiter, the only Camaro that doesn't have one is the ZL1
Why do you use "Zed" and "Mate", are you not from America?
No, I'm not American. Whatever gave you that idea?
Brian Makse Oh Canadian then? You speak like a North American.
Robert C Canadian, indeed.
Zed? Tree-mec? Wtf 🤣👎🏼
If you’re going to be absurdly critical, please feel free to join us in the current decade, Luddite.
Currently at 3:22 so far, poor review.
Hmm. I can't find a link to your Camaro 1LE review. Please post it when you have a moment.
Curious what you think it needs to be better exactly?
+Adam S (Dolby109) nothing. he's just a troll. he's on quite a lot of these videos
Love camaro's I have had several of them still have two of them the only thing that would keep me from buying this model is the crappy cheep looking tail lights they ruined the whole look of the back end love the rest of the car sorry GM not sure what you where thinking please if someone knows why they went from the 4 single tail lights with bezels to this I want to know
ZeeeL1...Are you British?! Good video otherwise.
I’m neither British nor American. Glad you like this old one.
He's Canadian
