This is honestly so true when I started I had no clue what to do leave it on my face wash it off put moisturizer on or anything this video was so helpful especially because I’m more of a visual learner
You can actually leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes. I’ve personally been leaving it on for 10 minutes since the benzoyl peroxide doesn’t give my skin a bad reaction. This stuff works great. Be patient though if it doesn’t seem like it’s working at first. It takes about 8 weeks to get FULL results and for your acne to be completely gone. The first couple weeks might seem like your acne’s actually getting worse, but it’s not. You may experience white heads, but this is because your skin is purging out all the bacteria from your pores, which again.. will “look” like it’s getting worse at first, but that’s just cause the bacteria has risen to the surface before it’s ready to come out. 10 out of 10. Just be consistent with it and try not to miss any days of using this product.
Yeah, but I wouldn't use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser on the skin for that long. In that case, a benzoyl peroxide cream or gel may be more helpful. Still, getting to the root cause of your acne is important so that it doesn't return after you stop using the treatment. I've been experimenting with this approach, and so far, I can tell you that it's very likely diet-related because I don't use any skincare products on my face whatsoever. I just changed my diet, and my skin has never looked this good! :) See here: www.youtube.com/@MelissaVanDijkOfficial/community

Thank you for your very detailed videos. I'm in my 50s and have acne prone oily skin with very large pores and hyperpigmentation mainly around my cheeks. I just started using this cleanser. After washing, I use a toner with hyaluronic acid before applying niacinamide and then my moisturiser. Is this routine okay??
Thanks for your reply. I use the cerave ultra light moisturising lotion because of the sunscreen. As a Nigerian sunscreen has never been my "thing" but reading up and listening to so many people talk about the benefit of sunscreen, that's why I decided to give it a try. But I found out that I react to the ones I've bought and more importantly, they leave an unsightly white film on my face! Any recommendations on sunscreen for a girl of colour so I can ditch the moisturiser??

Hi, I have 2 questions: 1. In the ingredients list, there is a glycolic acid. I think it is not safe to mix benzoyl peroxide together with glycolic acid and use it at the same time. What do you think? 2. Based on your experience, between panoxyl benzoyl 4% and cerave benzoyl 4%, which one work the best for you? Thx...
If a Benzoyl Peroxide product contains an acid like Glycolic Acid, it's usually well-balanced to offer mild exfoliation, hydration, or to balance the pH of the formulation. So, in that case, it's not a concern. I prefer PanOxyl's Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser or Differin's Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser.
The best I have tried are from Paula's Choice. Paula’s Choice Skin Restoring Moisturizer with SPF 50 (Normal to Dry Skin) or Paula’s Choice Youth Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid with SPF 50 (Normal to Combination/Oily Skin) But you can also try CeraVe Sunscreens. CeraVe AM Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 (Normal to Oily Skin) or CeraVeAM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen

I have the 10% Acne Foaming Cream Wash. I started today June 13th, and left it on my chest for 7 minutes before washing it off on the shiwer. I didn’t have any negative sensitivity effects. But is this recommended? Or should i only leave it on for 3 minutes, is that enough for it to work ? 🤔
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Imagine being in the shower for 15 minutes 😅 I appreciate your confirmation that 3 minutes is good. I thought it should be enough to penetrate the skin. Plus like you said everyone should be on lookout for sensitivity effects and act accordingly. I really enjoyed your video. Thank you.
hi i found this video super helpful! i just have one concern. i have the cerave acne control cleanser (salicylic acid) that i normally used but i was recommended to start using the cerave foamimg cleanser (benzoyl peroxide). however, i was wondering if i can i use the acne control cleanser for my entire face and then the foaming cleanser for the affected areas as i am unable to afford another cleanser? or can i use one in the day and the other at night?
The CeraVe acne control cleanser is very drying, not because of Salicylic Acid but because of the overall formulation; now, when using the Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser the same day, it really can accelerate the already dry skin. Therefore I suggest not using them on the same day. Instead, you can use them in different areas and try to see if it works. The best solution would be getting your hands on the CeraVe foaming cleanser, Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser, or another foaming cleanser that you could use when it gets too irritated. You need to try the different methods; just don't overdo it, and if you experience too much irritation and dryness, you can skip them for 1-2 days and rest your skin.
@@vaneshajagroo It may, however, it hasn't happened to me as I'm not using it through my eyebrows. Make sure to properly wash it off, and it won't be an issue :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet ah i see. and im so sorry for all the questions but last one! i have nodulocystic acne but im not sure if i should use the acne control cleanser with salicylic acid or the foaming cream cleanser with benzoyl peroxide. which cleanser do you think will seem more effective? i don’t think that salicylic acid will treat the type of acne that i have as it’s more mild?
It may work for some time, but generally, I think it will become irritating after a while. So it is not a good idea. Better to just add hydrating toners.
This depends on your needs and skin tolerance. I mainly used it whenever I experienced acne flare-ups, and I applied it only to the affected areas. Still, I also recommend exploring the root causes of your acne. These might include factors such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air and water quality, washing detergent, shampoo, clothing fabrics, etc.), and especially your diet. Consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or having food intolerances (like soy, spices, milk, bread [wheat/gluten], eggs, chicken, etc.) could contribute.

If you haven't had such a reaction with the PanOxyl BP cleanser, then you may be reacting to something else in the formulation. However, this sounds like an allergy to me, so it may be wise to stop using the CeraVe BP cleanser.
Well, you could go back to the PanOxyl BP cleanser; however, opt for their 4% version instead. Alternatively, you could try Differin's BP cleanser. I can just use this in my routine? 1.acne foaming cream cleanser 2. HA 3. Niacinamide 4. Salicylic 5. Moisturizer Or isn't it necessary? Also is it better to also use foaming facial cleanser or acne control cleanser before the acne cream cleanser? Or rather just use them at separate(am/pm) routines?
That sounds like a very irritating routine. I suggest keeping benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid separate, especially if you are planning on using them more often. Here is a better routine: Acne foaming cream cleanser or control cleanser HA Niacinamide Moisturizer (only if it is a gel and non-comedogenic, avoid creams or heavy lotions!) It may also be good to have a gentle foaming cleanser to use when not using the acne control cleanser or foaming cream cleanser to balance it, such as CeraVe Foaming Cleanser or Cream-to-Foam Cleanser.
Hi melissa thanks for the video, one question, since BP is known to bleach, has this every bleached ur eyebrows by accident? Its only 4% so i dont think its strong enough but has it happend?
No, but I have a lot of towels with dots. I think it needs more time, so if you let it sit on your brows for 10-20 minutes, it may do this. But of course, you should not do that! 🤣 So the answer is no.
At night, I use the CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser. I gently massage it onto my wet face and rinse it off after 2 to 3 minutes. After washing my face, I feel an increase in burning and dryness, and the redness on my cheeks also intensifies. Then, about 5 to 10 minutes later, I apply Vaseline Premium Petroleum Jelly to my face, which provides some relief. Gradually, the burning and dryness start to subside. Is using it this way suitable for my skin?
Hey! :) What strength of benzoyl peroxide do you use? How severe is your acne and where is it located? It's fine to apply the treatment only to the areas where you experience acne. See here: ua-cam.com/video/hdZKPkiwx7U/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared Still, I also recommend looking into the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), and especially your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, spices, milk, bread (wheat/gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).
Hi, I have white heads, black heads & pores.. which of the cerave cleanser should i use? The Acne control cleanser or Acne foaming cream cleanser? Whichever you recommend how often should i use it ? …I have combination skin
You may have success with the Acne Control Cleanser since it contains 2% Salicylic Acid. However, depending on the depth of your blackheads, it's advisable to have them extracted professionally. I also recommend investigating the root cause of your whiteheads and blackheads. Regarding your pores, it's normal to have them. Hey, how are you managing your acne? For me personally, benzoyl peroxide has been the only treatment that has shown a reduction in my type of acne. All the other treatments were somewhat ineffective, but it might depend on how well your skin reacts to the different ingredients. So, the other cleanser is salicylic acid!
@@Dominic7449 Well, it's not a bad thing. I mean, if you can target the acne and temporary dryness when treating it, that's not an issue for me. I'd rather have that than use hydrating products that constantly give me new acne. Although, I think it's more about the other ingredients in these formulations causing it. But, as I already told you, if it's not severe and your skin is not on fire, it's not an issue, at least not from my experience, and only for the time you are using the product.
Melissa, can I use this and the Effaclar Duo Plus on my face? For starters, I'm thinking once a day. But a bit concerned about using both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide at the same time. I have closed comedones on my forehead and occasional whiteheads on my chin and cheeks.
Essentially, you've already pointed out the potential issues. I also believe it might be too much for the skin to tolerate. Therefore, you need to adjust this to your needs. Start slowly and alternate use!
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you for the reply! I always do my routine in the shower. Do you think if I use the acne foaming cleanser first the wash it off with the foaming facial cleanser second it will be as effective and then use a moisturizer last

I use it morning and at nights mornings with : Acne Control Gel: Targeted Treatment. and spf moisturizer nights with : Resurfacing Retinol Serum - Skincare - CeraVe and moisturizer
It could be that your skin responds better to Salicylic Acid than Benzoyl Peroxide, yes. However, it could also mean that you're overusing these treatments, as you are using a Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid-based Cleanser along with a Retinol Serum. So, you could either completely stop using the Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser, or just use that one and stop using the Salicylic Acid cleanser to see what works best for you :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you. Can I use the benzoyl peroxide foaming cleanser and a salicylic acid moisturiser at the same time in the routine?
How did you use it? What percentage of Benzoyl Peroxide do you use? How much did you apply? Did you apply it all over your face or just to a specific area? What other products do you use? Is this your first time using a Benzoyl Peroxide product?
Hi Melissa! I've been using cerave acne foaming cleanser in a week now together with retinoic acid (brand my derma gave). But I am experiencing super dryness and flaky skin. Is this normal? How long will this take?
Hello :) are you using them in the same routine? Because that is usually not how it is done, but instead, using them at alternate times. But also, from my experience, that can cause severe redness or dryness, which will not go away. I solved that issue by only using one treatment at a time and adjusting to that before introducing the other. But if your dermatologist told you to do so, I recommend getting in touch with him to check what you can change :)

My acne is clear now i have just acne scars . Is acne foaming cleaner is good for inactive acne which cerave cleaner is best for in active acne or acne scars
I started using the acne foaming cleanser for the first time today. I avoided my eye area but used it all over my face. After washing, my acnes on my cheeks feel a bit warm and itchy. Is this normal cause my forehead doesn’t feel anything. Is this how this works or is it an allergic reaction?
Is it just a little and then it goes away? If so, then I assume this is because it's dry. So, in this case, if the problem persists, a moisturizer would be ideal, ideally a gel type. Something like CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion, pure aloe vera gel, or The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. Here’s what to do: Clean your face with the benzoyl peroxide cleanser. Pat your face dry. Apply a bean-sized amount of the gel all over your face.
@@HashiniNavodhaPerera So, it shouldn't be an issue. However, the more you use it, the drier your skin may become, so the gel might still be necessary. But wait and see how things go over the next few days before deciding to purchase it.
It depends. If you want to leave it on the skin for a moment (like a minute or so), you can start with the cleanser and then move on to your shampoo and body wash. Once you're done with it, you can rinse everything off in one go. You have to test it. It primarily depends on your shower routine..like do you only use shampoo, maybe conditioner too?... :)

If you have oily skin and acne no, that will lead to more breakouts; it is too heavy for the skin. No, do not do that. This can really cause irritation. Only use one cleanser or alternate between them. If you have normal to oily skin, you can use a gentle foaming cleanser. If you have normal to dry skin, use a hydrating cleanser. My suggestion would be to follow the benzoyl peroxide cleansing step or salicylic acid cleanser with a lightweight, hydrating hyaluronic acid serum or gel, such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost or G&G Hydration Station. I do that sometimes, and it can work well. However, I do not do it daily since redness and "skin rash" can appear if too much dryness occurs. So if that happens, I always give it a break of a couple of days before combining it again. So you need to adjust it to your needs. @@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet but is it alright if u use the foaming cleanser then acne cleanser at night but in the morning use foaming cleanser and only the daily lotion
This could work, yes. CeraVe's Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser isn't as intense/irritating as others. However, if dryness or Irritation occurs, keep them separate.
Yes, still, it will not work if you use water-resistant sunscreen or heavy mineral sunscreen; for that, you need to use an oil or balm cleanser. But yes, that is how you should do it. It also exfoliates the skin, so there is no need for it. Also, I do not recommend following up with an AHA or BHA since it will dramatically increase the risk of irritation. From my experience, it does not work well and often just causes the skin to react with more breakouts. So if you have both and want to use them, I suggest using them on alternate days.

@@justin4652 It's not a bad cleanser. However, out of all the BP cleansers that I have tried so far, the one from Differin feels the best on the skin and isn't as aggressive (I mean in terms of how it feels on the skin when having it on the skin) and I don't get a 'weird' feeling when using it. I sometimes get this with certain products, not sure why. Benzoyl Peroxide is always a bit aggressive, but the formulation of a BP product makes a huge difference.
It depends on your overall skin tolerance, but I could use it once daily. Also how many days or weeks will it take to get better results? I just got this product yesterday and I'm new to it and after trying everything to get rid of my acne I've dealt with for years I'm really hoping this finally helps.
Yes, that's fine. You should be able to see results quite quickly as it contains Benzoyl Peroxide (2-4 weeks). Keep in mind, it's a treatment not a cure for acne. What products have you tried so far?

Literally though lol I had to learn from chat gpt. The bottle didn’t even mention leaving it on for 5 to 10 minutes

How many times a week should i use it?

3. Niacinamide
4. Salicylic
5. Moisturizer
Or isn't it necessary?
Also is it better to also use foaming facial cleanser or acne control cleanser before the acne cream cleanser? Or rather just use them at separate(am/pm) routines?

Acne foaming cream cleanser or control cleanser
HA
Niacinamide
Moisturizer (only if it is a gel and non-comedogenic, avoid creams or heavy lotions!)

You may have success with the Acne Control Cleanser since it contains 2% Salicylic Acid. However, depending on the depth of your blackheads, it's advisable to have them extracted professionally. Hey, how are you managing your acne? For me personally, benzoyl peroxide has been the only treatment that has shown a reduction in my type of acne.

But also, from my experience, that can cause severe redness or dryness, which will not go away. I solved that issue by only using one treatment at a time and adjusting to that before introducing the other. But if your dermatologist told you to do so, I recommend getting in touch with him to check what you can change :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet i thought its normal peeling stage of the product. 😭 Should I stop now? I just tried to use it on the same time but every other day.
@@ynnahgstd For me, it works best when using one in the morning and the other in the evening, and when it becomes too much, I usually skip it for 1-2 days and start again. But since you got it from your doctor, just give him a call :)
Hello Melissa, I've been using this foam for months already and it works best for me. However, with my last tube of it, I've started to feel irritated on my skin and itchy, it's also super dry. So, should I continue using it or should I stop ?
My acne is clear now i have just acne scars . Is acne foaming cleaner is good for inactive acne which cerave cleaner is best for in active acne or acne scars
Hey! :)
What skincare products do you currently use?
What did you use to reduce your active acne?
Do you have physical scars or only dark spots?
Here’s what to do:
Clean your face with the benzoyl peroxide cleanser.
Pat your face dry.
Apply a bean-sized amount of the gel all over your face.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Yup it went away like in 15 secs. 🙌🏽 Thanks alot!! 💛
@@HashiniNavodhaPerera So, it shouldn't be an issue. However, the more you use it, the drier your skin may become, so the gel might still be necessary. But wait and see how things go over the next few days before deciding to purchase it.
if i use this in the shower, is it best to use it before or after i use shampoo and body wash?

I personally wouldn't, because Benzoyl Peroxide can also cause some 'damage.' That's why I only recommend using it when you're experiencing acne. I would switch to a regular cleanser now.
Still, I also recommend looking into the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), and especially your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, spices, milk, bread (wheat/gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).

Hey :)
Before you use the cleanser, I wonder if you changed anything in your life/diet?! Because sometimes that can already be the cause of it, so that you may not need to use a product :) So that would be the first to look at.
But overall, you could use this cleanser, but the better alternative would be Panoxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser.
And you could follow this guide:
How Long to Leave Benzoyl Peroxide Wash on Face with Demonstration:
ua-cam.com/video/nlV5Irc4A0s/v-deo.html
So can I use the cleanser then the cetaphil moisturizer twice a day and that will work?
If you have oily skin and acne no, that will lead to more breakouts; it is too heavy for the skin. I recommend using a light moisturizer such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel or a hydrating toner or essence. That works best for me. But no matter what, you do not use these heavy, greasy moisturizers afterwards.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet so you don’t think the cetaphil moisturizer is good?
Not if you have oily skin. If you should come across dryness, you can always add it but otherwise, no.

Hey! 😊
Do you use this cleanser daily in the AM and PM? Also, do you apply it to your entire face? If so, you may want to consider using it less frequently and/or only on the affected area. What other products do you use? While a BP cleanser can help reduce acne, it's important to determine the underlying cause of your acne for a lasting cure.

when the acne started spreading i limited it to the affected areas only.
Yes, i think it would be better to use it off and on.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank u very much!!!
Does it foam? I know most doesn’t
Did it foam in the video?
Can I exfoliate my skin while using the product?
It also exfoliates the skin, so there is no need for it. Also, I do not recommend following up with an AHA or BHA since it will dramatically increase the risk of irritation. From my experience, it does not work well and often just causes the skin to react with more breakouts. So if you have both and want to use them, I suggest using them on alternate days.
I'm going to try this, i used to use differin daily deep cleanser it's was good not sure this will be the same.
Differin Daily deep cleanser is the best I have tried :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet do you recommed to buy this ?
@@justin4652 no, only if the other one is not available.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Why ? And how bad this cleanser compare to differin cleanser could you explain more specific to me, thank you.
(i kinda afraid this cleanser will make my acne worst too because the previous product of this brand does )
@@justin4652 It's not a bad cleanser.
So I could use this while in the shower ?
Yes, of course :)
How often should someone use this?
It depends on your overall skin tolerance, but I could use it once daily. When I used it more often, I got sensitivity (redness) or experienced dryness which I then tried to balance with a moisturizer, but that led to other issues.
Here is a little routine for acne, which helped me to reduce it. You could use CeraVe Cleanser instead of PanOxyl.
How to use Panoxyl Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser and Differin Gel for Acne-Prone Skin:

Will it still work okay and be as effective If I only use it once a day like only using it at night? I don't really have much time to put it on during the day and especially even remember to put it on twice a day and it's easier for me to do it at night.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you! I've tried so many brands I've lost count
Cerave, Panoxyl and Differin are brands that offer Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser. Always go with a 4% or 5% strength. I personally prefer Differin's Cleanser! :)
Do you use anything else?
Do you have active acne or only acne marks?
You don’t have 1 minute out of the day to use it….?
I just started using this cleanser and my face is breaking out...is tat normal?
What is your skin type, what are your skin concerns before using this cleanser, and what other products do you use?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet uhhh...oily skin and I use eucerin pro acne before, and after I using cerave acne foaming cream cleanser, I'll use effaclar duo plus.....is it too bad to use tis both at the same time? Since salicylic acid and benzol peroxide is too strong
@@williamjung6064 Ok. Yes, I think you're overdoing it a bit. Avoid using your Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide products together. Just use one of them, either one in the AM and the other in the PM, and then follow with something hydrating afterwards, like a Hyaluronic Acid serum, instead of the Effaclar DUO+
Hi! Can I really use Cerave Hydrating cream to foam cleanser before using Acne foaming cream cleanser?
Some says that acne foaming cleanser cannot be combine with salicylic acid , however Cerave Hydrating cream to foam cleanser has it.
Thank you!
The Salicylic Acid amount in that cleanser is so little that it does not matter. However, I wouldn't use them together since this can be pretty drying. So, you can alternate between those two cleansers :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet How about Cerave Acne foam cream cleanser and SA cleanser can I use it on alternate night? Thanks
@@crissalyncenon4817 Yes, that's fine! :)
Can you use it at night too?
Yes, it can be used morning and evening. Still, remove any makeup or sunscreen first before using it.
Omg I have a very important question can I leave acne foaming cleanser for the whole night cause I have been leaving it for two nights already because my mom told me to leave it so can you please tell me if it okay and I have the two products the acne control cleanser and acne foaming cleanser so witch one I leave for the nigh?hope you respond me 🙂🙂
This is a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser which is a rinse-off product. So, when using it, wash it off the skin.
You can use CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser in the morning and Acne Foaming Cleanser in the evening (or vice versa). This way you can use both cleansers but at different times.
Yeah but is it ok to leave it in the face for the whole day? And the two of them are soaps right?
@@nisaelochoa8276 No. CeraVe Acne Foaming Cleanser and Acne Control Cleanser are your soaps to wash your face but it also contains 4% of Benzoyl Peroxide and the other one contains 2% of Salicylic Acid which helps to reduce acne. You can leave it on the skin for 1-2 minutes and then rinse it off.
how many months will CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser last?
I haven't paid attention to this. It depends on how much you use of it and how often you use it. Maybe 1-2 months...
Does ur acne gets worst and get better or it will just get better? also I’m using clindamycin phosphate topical solution usp 1% can I use the cerave foam while using the clindamycin?
It primarily depends on how your skin reacts to Benzoyl Peroxide. My skin does not have a problem with BP and it works great for me! :)
You can use this cleanser in the AM and a regular cleanser + your treatment in the PM.
