Geoff's voice is sleeping in the cold below...the Pit Vipers made numerous appearances in this one. What else from VoicePlay do I still need to make a video for?
This is from Wikipedia: "In Warframe, players control members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of suspended animation far into Earth's future to find themselves at war with different factions in the Origin", So "Space Shanty" is a perfect description for it.
I do like the deeper analysis of VoicePlay arrangements. Some of us just absolutely love their stuff but don't know what they're doing to make us love it so much!😅
If you wanted context about why it's a sea shanty but the aesthetics for the set was "space", it's because Warframe is a sort of Space Ninja game, and this song released with an update that revamped the spaceship combat system on top of adding a whole lot of stuff to it (including a Ghost Ship captain character you can play), but the update dropped when Sea Shanties were all the rage, so they decided to hop on that train
@@SeliahK I would have loved to take theater in High School, but my sister who is 14 years older than I am earned the wrath of the Theater teacher at our high school, and we had a very distinct last name. I’m so happy to see you back doing a deeper analysis for Voiceplay again. We were watching on the live feed when Kathy came around handing out the contacts. Layne chose purple, saying that he knew no one else would want them. Cesar and Omar decided to swap one, making them mirror twins. Geoff had just gotten a lot of random costume pieces and let the guys put together their own costumes on the spot.

For all that I watch knowledgeable people like yourself, Jen, and Charismatic Voice I'm still learning new things every time. Feel free, sir, to deep dive into any music that strikes your fancy. I'm here for it.
Always love your deep analysis. This song is from the video game, WarFrame. Just before this song plays, the character who sings the song has the following dialogue: "I was working in an exosuit when the Tempstarii (a "ghost spaceship") destroyed Lucretia Platform (a space station). I drifted for days among the frozen fragments of my crew, my sisters. I dreamed their dead, gaping mouths were singing with me yet." Geoff's walking base line throughout this is amazing! He had a devil of a time with continuity errors, They did reshoot a section because Layne forgot his gloves, but see if you can catch the ones they missed in the final cut. Also, check out Cesar's eyes at timestamp 0:10 - the image is reversed. He is actually wearing the white lens in his right eye, with Omar wearing it in his left. They also share a pair of blue lenses. Eli is wearing turquoise, Layne is wearing purple, and Geoff is wearing gold. This was filmed on the LED wall and floor at Optiview 360 in Longwood, FL Geoff created the background video for the projection. Geoff searched "Japanese street wear" to find the costumes.
Thank you for reacting to this! The song is from a quest in the game Warframe, which is almost 11 years strong! It is very similar to a sea shanty, we call it a "space shanty" as, like you said, it's in space. The song is from a ship captain who was attacked and stranded in space amongst her dead crew ("sisters"). Despite the calm lyrics, the song is one of revenge too. There's a more sea shanty-style version called "Sevagoth's Lullabye", more closely relating to the Warframe in question from the quest.
Hi Peter! I absolutely want to hear your reaction to Geoff's cover of Unshaken! It is purely amazing! Also, you are a very talented professional, yet you aren't full of yourself! I truly appreciate that about you! Thanks!
Peter, I'll be honest: sometimes I reluctantly pass on one of your videos because I just can't afford the time. Some days I can do thirty-three minutes and twenty seconds, but most of the time, I'm taking a SHORT break from a heavy work schedule and I have to click on something that's under 7-1/2 minutes. When I can, however, I treat myself to one of your thorough analises because I know it will be worth it. One thing I really appreciate about you is that, after you describe something to us, you jump back far enough to let us hear it. Sometimes you let us listen to the same line three or four times so we can catch all the nuances that you are mysteriously able to pick out on first listening. TLDR: Please continue with your deep analysis videos. What you're offering is valuable and unique.
I love when Omar and Caesar harmonize. Geoff always rocks my bones with his low notes. Eli is on fire with his high range. Layne of course is an orchestra all in himself. I really like your analysis as I always learn some thing new. Thanks Peter
I've been a bass singer for 35 years and have played bass guitar longer... I still cannot do the vocal bass guitar-type lines like Geoff does... this is something that has always intrigued me about Geoff's style.
Peter, as far as I'm concerned (and I know that weighs heavily on your mind, LOL!), you can take as long as you'd like to do an analysis and reaction to any a cappella songs you want to! I love hearing all of the little things that your trained ear can pick out that I've just enjoyed without realizing exactly what was going on! I DID pick up on that final "diverging lines" (I have no idea what the proper term is) where Geoff was headed down into the basement with his final solo line and the harmonies were headed up into space with their final high notes. I love that kind of movement in a song, and it was so well done here! Geoff did his thing here and added a few lines to the original song (which has a strongly Celtic flavor to it), mostly the chorus lines of vowels after a verse and chorus - I noticed at least two that weren't in the original song (at 0:34 and 2:00). There's also a final verse (but no chorus) in the song that Geoff apparently decided to leave out - I would imagine because it was even slower than the original song (which has a slower tempo than VoicePlay's version), and Geoff didn't want to bring down the energy of the song, but that's strictly a guess on my part - I'm not high enough in the Patreon tiers to be able to ask a question like that. Regardless, loved the reaction and analysis - and nice to see the Pit Vipers make an appearance!
I heard or read that the person that wrote this and other music for the game belongs to (?) Newfoundland or Norway, I think. Hence, his liking for sea shanty toons.
Sleeping in the Cold Below was written specifically for the free-to-play on-line game Warframe. The original song in the game is somewhat slower paced, more verses than what Voiceplay chose to include. Here is a link to Warfare gameplay with the original song - the song starts around the 1:48 mark. ua-cam.com/video/g9oN7A-RHvs/v-deo.html
It still has a bit of the Shanty feel to it, but it is much more Celtic inspired with fiddle and Bohdran drum. Which I don't quite understand considering the narrative, but still really enjoy. This felt more updated and so more appropriate for a space theme. However, I think VoicePlay focused on a more upbeat version too. In-game the song occurs right after a female character's crewmates are all slaughtered - so there the 'cold below' is more about the void in space. The line that implies 'death' is a bit hidden - about '..under Granum Crowns' (or with coins on their eyes). For VP it feels more like the song is a communal dream during cryogenic sleep - especially with that last all white background and the guys in 'frozen' positions.
I love when you go deep into the music. It's what led me to subscribing to reactors like you, Mortius, and Jenn. This song went straight into my top 5 from them. The arrangement was FIRE, the concept of a "space shanty" is unique and I love didn't realize how much I need more of this. Glad I caught the premiere, even if a bit late. Some people in the chat recommended you interview Eli next. I think that's a great idea, get not only vocal insight and his use of character voices, but ask him about visuals, lighting, filmography, how he uses Unreal Engine for backgrounds, pick his brain for ideas that could inspire future projects by The Bass Gang. I would love to hear more from tenors as well as basses. I think Eli has been the hidden gem of VoicePlay, a dangerous weapon they are bringing out more and more. I've seen reactors say he's "improved the most" but that's not it. He's always been awesome... but VoicePlay is shifting into more hard rock and EDM music, which allows Eli's inner rock god to shine.
I love when you do long analysis like that! And there is never enough VP and Geoff! You should definitively take a look at the 2 releases from Geoff of 2024 up to now (Wicked game and Unshaken) they are so cool! You better have your pit vipers close ;)
Yay for more VoicePlay and yay for deep-dive a cappella analyses!! Been here for it since late 2021 and will continue to always be here for it! I always enjoy the deep dives, makes me appreciate the music that much more!
I like 6our deep dive into VoicePlay because you give everyone their due respect, especially Layne, who gets overlooked by most reactors . He's amazing 😊
Hi Peter, welcome back in the rabbit hole that is VoicePlay! I’m so glad you are back analyzing their songs-I really missed your knowledge about the music. Here’s to hoping that you will be back with VP and of course Geoff. Heck, I missed that so much, that I was watching you on reruns 🤭😅
Voiceplay has brought to light a new genre, the "Space Shanty!" Although I think the theme from that great old show, Firefly, might fall under that category as well. Either way, this is cosmic! And I adore your reactions! Almost every time Geoff or Voiceplay has a new video I think "I can't wait to see Peter Barber do this one!" But wait, did you do "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" or "Wicked Game" and I missed it? I'll have to check! I'd hate to miss those! The first is so much fun, and the second is just stunning!
@@morgianlefaye Sadly, I missed it when it first ran. And then some friends dragged me along to the movies to see Serenity. Seeing that totally ruined the show for me. If I know what characters end up dead, I can't get into a show, even when it has a bunch of actors I like.
SO SO SO SO here for a deep analysis of a VP arrangement, when you said that I paused, got a drink, and a blanket and settled in. So happy for you Peter on your growth of your channel, your work with the Bass Gang, watching you grow has been a privilege! Also Warframe is a game and this is a song from the game.

Geoff rules, Eli’s high notes are awesome, yay Omar There we go, I’m so good at following instructions 😎 (This is my favorite VP release in recent history, thanks for taking a look at it and enhancing everyone’s experience with your thoughts and analysis ☺️)
The song that has all the bass you could possibly want is Hoist the Colours, recently released on Jonathan Young’s channel. Bobby and Colm sing with him in this epic sea shanty. It’s really something WILD.🔥
Is there a musical or neuroscience explanation for why Geoff's descending solo part while everyone is holding the high note at the end sounds SO GOOD?! 🤯
Peter my boi. Can't wait to watch your reaction on this and then you need to get yourself over to Geoff's cover of Unshaken (Red Dead Redemption). That one will short circuit your brain.
Thank you Peter! I got a lot out of that analysis! I really like the way you try to explain things in layman’s terms. I know it might have been long but with VP whose voices I was already familiar with I was able to hear even more of the differences you were talking about. 💜💜💜
I think you are the best vocal analysis site hands down! I’m a classically trained Lyric and am learning far more about the intricacies of the bass voice and vocal line than I was ever taught in school😊. Visually seeing the notes (Geoff’s especially) scaled is a big thing to me. Thx!
Ive always enjoyed Geoff's bass guitar sound, he's just so accurate. I love that as much as his actual singing. So impressive. Geoff has said he hasn't played this game, he just liked the song.
Love the deep dive analyses, as a total vocal and a capella nerd! This group never ceases to amaze me with their arrangements and top tier productions. Great job as always, Peter!
Love this deep reaction especially when we can see it’s for a song/band you genuinely enjoy. Can’t wait to see your reaction/review of Geoff’s latest “Unshaken”
Your analysis of this cool "space shanty" from VP is really appreciated. There's just so MUCH going on! I enjoy learning everything I miss while casually listening to it, so thank you for the deep dive!

Currently 1:40am in Brisbane. So happy this finally dropped.🥰 Great analysis. Worth the wait All 5 have coloured contacts. Cesar and Omar shared contacts
I have been waiting for your analysis and you did not disappoint. It may only be a 2 min song, but the 30 minutes of you breaking things down was incredibly informative. Thank you for the two years of amazing reactions!
And once again a beautifully done analysis! I think many of us that have been here for such a long period of time enjoy the deeper analysis, because we know more now than we did two years ago. Thank you for sharing your gifts 💜
Yes please... more deep analysis of VP like this. You're doing great. Love your singing along and beatboxing. And the showing of the notes, how deep this deep is... below, below!😂🎉❤
По большей части, я смотрю каверы из-за невероятного басса Джеффа😃 хотя слышать всю их аранжировку и пение невероятное удовольствие 😌 For the most part, I watch covers because of Jeff's incredible bass😃, although it's an incredible pleasure to hear all their arrangements and singing😌
You know your audience Peter. The more analysis the better! I always find that the songs you break down have a second wind on my Spotify thanks to all the new stuff you point out. P.S. Cannot wait for Skull and Bones!!!
The song is from Call of the Tempestarii and Voice Play did a really great job with the song. Voice Play is definitely all that. If not for your analysis I would never have known about Voice Play. As always great job Peter, loved the deeper analysis. Thk u.😊
How cool that you know where it's from! Thanks for that info! Oh, and one teensy thing, it's Voiceplay, or VoicePlay, one word, though I know autocorrect annoyingly changes it. Sorry, I was an English Major, and I have to get SOME use out of my BA.

Warframe is a "galactic empire war" game. And it uses a lot shanty-style songs for cut scenes for the different settings and locations. Another Warframe song with lots of covers is "We all lift together"
Yes, I love the deep dive and longer analysis. I will say it felt like too many pauses though. I watch a reactor called Sir Hairless and he does deep analysis with only a couple of pauses and I prefer that style. But of course do what works for you, I will always be here for VoicePlay, Voctave and Geoff! ❤
Dude. I subbed for your deep dives. go as deep as you want, I’m here for it. VoicePlay keeps my ADD happy; there are very few reactors who constantly find things I missed. You’re one of them.
100%, Peter! Love the deeper analysis. Such an earworm from VP! I don't know when YT first told me you were putting this one out, but I woke up every day for like a week wondering if it was March 14th yet. 😅
Peter, this is my first (won’t be my last) encounter with you. I’m NOT the music “nerd” you were aiming for in audience. I love music but am untrained in any genre. I also love to learn, and your commentary helped me consciously hear parts where I had emotionally reacted without knowing why. Thank you for the elucidation.

Thank you Peter! I got a lot out of that analysis! I really like the way you try to explain things in layman’s terms. I know it might have been long but with VP whose voices I was already familiar with I was able to hear even more of the differences you were talking about. 💜💜💜
Vocal Nerds represent! - For thine algorithm!
Yup it is a Space Shanty! Nice analysis thanks 😉🌹🕊
Yup, deep dives into VP, Geoff, HF, TBG are all good (that's a lot of acronyms). All good stuff Peter, much appreciated!
I think you are the best vocal analysis site hands down! I’m a classically trained Lyric and am learning far more about the intricacies of the bass voice and vocal line than I was ever taught in school😊. Visually seeing the notes (Geoff’s especially) scaled is a big thing to me. Thx!
Thanks so much 😁
Ive always enjoyed Geoff's bass guitar sound, he's just so accurate. I love that as much as his actual singing. So impressive. Geoff has said he hasn't played this game, he just liked the song.
And he's accurate for both the specific sounds of an electric bass AND a stand up bass! Two different sounds.
Love the deep dive analyses, as a total vocal and a capella nerd! This group never ceases to amaze me with their arrangements and top tier productions. Great job as always, Peter!
Love the Pit Viper call on Geoff's low note. Nice! Really enjoyed this song by Voiceplay. Enjoyed the in depth analysis.
I love your deep dives; in particular for VoicePlay and Geoff!
Welcome back, Peter!
Omar and Cesar swapped one contact to each other so both have 2 different colors.
So happy this finally dropped.🥰
Great analysis. Worth the wait
All 5 have coloured contacts. Cesar and Omar shared contacts
Ayyy fellow south-east Queenslander!
Vocal nerds rise up 😊
🩵💙🩵💙 Been waiting for this one!! Vocal/Choir Nerds Unite!!😊😊
Yes please... more deep analysis of VP like this. You're doing great. Love your singing along and beatboxing. And the showing of the notes, how deep this deep is... below, below!😂🎉❤
You could say Geoff’s voice is deeper than the voids of space. This video was so good.
Space shanty - a new category.
So much fun!
Great reaction. I hope you get around to Jonathan Youngs Hoist The Colors featuring Bobby Bass and Colm Mcguinness.
Absolutely loved the deep dive analysis!! There was so much going on this NEEDED a deep dive to do it justice! Well done!
Love the in-depth analysis; it makes me hear more the more I listen.
Haha the good old days of racing the camera recording limit. Nice to see a longer analysis again. 👍
Another terrific reaction/analysis! Thanks, Peter!
Thanks for great analysis 👍🏼 VoicePlay rocks!
Love it when you peel that onion Great reaction/analysis!
По большей части, я смотрю каверы из-за невероятного басса Джеффа😃 хотя слышать всю их аранжировку и пение невероятное удовольствие 😌
For the most part, I watch covers because of Jeff's incredible bass😃, although it's an incredible pleasure to hear all their arrangements and singing😌
Yes, Vocal Nerds rise up!! 😂 That’s why I love your reactions/ analyses!
Normally I listen with bone conducting headphones, but for VP, I switch to the Shure in ear monitors to hear all the parts,
You know your audience Peter. The more analysis the better! I always find that the songs you break down have a second wind on my Spotify thanks to all the new stuff you point out. P.S. Cannot wait for Skull and Bones!!!
I appreciate to listen to all the details, you can hear, that's soooo interesting. Always here for Voiceplay or Geoff
You gave great joy and entertainment today, as always. Happy to be a subscriber and learner.❤
Yes, love your breakdown and analysis! It’s your USP. Anyone can do just a reaction video 😂
@@DravenGal sorry dude I'm a mere Librarian major and since my poor spell check has to worry about two different languages I leave it alone 🤣
@@keydemoore Fair enough! (And I'm a gal.) Also, I wish they'd had Librarian classes in my area when I was in college! I once worked at a Borders. Best job I ever had. I'm a readaholic!
Books & music are my weaknesses 😭.
@@keydemoore What are your top two fave books?
Warframe is a "galactic empire war" game. And it uses a lot shanty-style songs for cut scenes for the different settings and locations. Another Warframe song with lots of covers is "We all lift together"
Been waiting for this from you, Peter. I am hoping for Wicked Game from Geoff. Exquisite Pit Viper time!
Lol
Might need to just wear them for it 😂
Love your VP analyses man, always a ton of fun to watch you react to the low notes and creativity. Keep it up!
That was great.
I have missed your indepth analyses.
Thank you so much for this reaction, analysis, and super fun chat! ❤😊
Love the song as well. I didn’t know it before. 😊
Love how you analyze! Been here since early days. So appreciate you! ❤
Loved this! ❤
Dude. I subbed for your deep dives. go as deep as you want, I’m here for it.
VoicePlay keeps my ADD happy; there are very few reactors who constantly find things I missed. You’re one of them.
Привет, Питер! Всегда, спасибо, за ВойсПлэй.🤩😗💓❣❤🔥👍👍👍🥀🥀🥀🥀
This another video game theme song. It's a space pirate shanty.
Always love that deep dive you do❤
100%, Peter!
