That final G1 was definitely unique for Geoff. It sounded like a growl, chest, and fry note coming together. He was flexing his ability to do a G1 using different techniques throughout, without a doubt. F1 to B1 is a sweet-spot in Geoff's range, where he can do a ton of different techniques with it.

You want to see his whole range from deep bass to tenor? Watch him as the lead singer in Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie Song. Mind blowing, and almost inhuman range. BTW, the Peter Hollens, Tim Foust (Home Free) collaboration on this song is great. Between the contrasting high tenor of Peter and low Bass of Tim, it makes the song almost ethereal, and Tim goes a bit lower than Geoff on the final note.

If you watched VoicePlay's My Mother Told Me you realize that Geoff retasked several of the wardrobe pieces in this video. He uses the same studio (owned by Layne Stein) as VoicePlay. In fact, the coat with the embroidery on the arm and faux fur trim on left-most Geoff was worn by Layne as was the ringed leather jerkin by second lighter haired Geoff. The gray faux fur thrown over the shoulder of the third Geoff was part of Geoff's costume. Also reused from other videos. VoicePlay does that a lot. That said, I thought the production values here were very high.

The placement of the g1 growl at the end was perfect for an ending note. It would not be geoff's style to hit a growl note in the middle of an arrangement, it just hits harder and has too much impact to just carry into another verse. On the flipside, the g1 chest would not work as well at the end of an arrangement (as far as impact goes) compared to the growl, but in the middle, or used transitionally, it is a perfect choice where a growl would have not worked as well. I would agree with your sentiment that geoff's arrangements are probably his best asset, and imo, it really shows in his choice of dynamic placement for his low notes, specifically how he carries them at certain points in his songs.

@@stevenshewfelt888 Dude. I saw VoicePlay live. They started with "Elvira", and when he dropped down for the bass notes in the refrain, I think every female in that place forgot how to breathe. Quite a few of the guys too.

I think that last note was intentional, wanting to leave you with a “echoey” or breathy G1 taking you/or leaving you in the misty mountains … it makes sense to me lol … but I definitely see/hear the difference your speaking of….👍🏼

Been watching you for a month or so now. Kinda cool seeing one of your first analysis videos where you made some decisions early on that you're still doing.. like the pit vipers. One thing that definitely separates you from the rest is your knowledge and singing ability. It's great to hear your insight and attempts to match the notes. One thing that few reactors, including "vocal coaches" do is show their singing ability and explain things from a technical point of view

I'm guessing that you're fairly familiar with Tim Faust from Home Free. Have you heard him singing "We Three Kings" with the Hound and the Fox? I know, it's not Christmas, but the song is pretty amazing.

I love Geoff's low bass but his high range is stellar too. This is one of my favorite songs by him other than his version of Shenandoah

This was a great reaction, thanks for sharing. Lots of interesting insights and points, and I couldn't agree more that the arrangement is insane! His singing is amazing, for sure, but his arrangements add just as much they're so incredible.

I really enjoyed your analysis and hearing your thoughts about all the different parts of the song. I'd definitely like to watch more reaction/analysis videos from you, maybe about other Voiceplay or Home Free music like Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie Song, Home Free's Folsom Prison Blues and so on.

I think the two sub notes the middle being more chest then the last intentionally growl for the setting of the song. Best way is just to ask Geoff. Love bass My husband is a bass he like you just loves following other bass singers. He has shown this video and others to his director. Geoff is very talented. Listen to his interviews on how he hits those lows and growls. 💖💖💖

I really enjoy that you're not afraid to point out where you think there's room for improvement. Many others reacting to Geoff's stuff mostly only praises him, which gets repetitive and less informative in my opinion.
