Thanks for the intro video. I felt you did the game justice with your explanations of the instructions. I purchased it within 2 weeks after viewing. I look forward to any other videos with regards to CC.
So in this video (24:45) this guy harvests two food on his opening action(s) from the dessert tile and gets two food. The rules say "you can collect from a given space once per activation. Thus a size 4 city can only collect 4 resources but only one ore if it only has access to one mountain space but only one ore if it only has access to one mountain space." I realize the happiness icon makes your city essentially one size bigger but does it allow you to -double dip- on one tile? If so, this move make sense. If not, he is breaking the game. My understanding of the rule is if I were to make the same opening action I would get one food and one other resource. Not two food. I realize he researched irrigation so he can harvest food from dessert and he has happiness effectively making his city a level two city but I am not sure if that allows him to harvest two food from that one dessert. Also the happiness icons are not AAA (as an action) meaning if I had happiness icons in my reserve, would it cost me an action to place a happiness icon from my reserve? Alternatively, if I earned a happiness icon as result of my action could I place it as part that same action (assuming I could place it immediately) or is that also a separate action? TIA
Hey Will, you're always allowed to collect from your city hex, meaning that you can collect one food from the grasslands you are located on and one from the desert. Using the happiness resources is a second action, civic improvement (which improves the cities happiness)
Great video, very helpful. Thinking of getting the new edition as well. Might use the old and new tiles together, not sure if that would affect gameplay apart from lengthening the game? Cheers mate.
Hey thanks for the video. Way better than trying to trudge through a rulebook.
