  • Did Wampler nail the classic Nashville overdrive sound? The new Wampler Belle is Brian's take on the classic Nobels ODR-1 and in this exclusive first look we did nothing less than compare it to the original pedal from the 90s! Plus the newer, broadly available version of the ODR-1. Which one is your favourite?

I would have loved to hear the Nobels ODR-mini as well, I love it on my board, but always nice to hear how the family compares.

Big factors: what clipping option was chosen for the Wampler? Also - bass was cut the whole time for the Wampler, that’s of course gonna make it for clear sounding. I like the Wampler

Haha! It's hard to see but the socks are shell pink, dude. I chose them to mess with Guillaume's head. He's the shell pink guy and I wanted to pay tribute to his beautiful shell pink strat. It would've been way funnier if he brought that strat to this video shoot. :)

I have the original Nobels and the mini version too and they are great pedals but when I got the Wampler Belle it’s like I found all the things I didn’t like from the others two resolved!
Plus the Belle has a fantastic switch side button option that when it’s ON it gives a you a clear pristine wonderful punchy open tone and that’s an unique feature from the mini Belle!!!!
    Brian Wampler made a winner again!!!Super versatile,Killer!!!!

I think the Wampler one sounds the tightest since you can control the bass response. That might actually work best with my rig since my amps are never 100% clean, they're usually already clipping or cranked.

So freaking true.. what’s funny is nowadays session guitarists are using old cheap japanese guitars from the 60s quite often because of how unique they sound.. guitars most average players would never touch. Everything has a unique sound that could work in certain scenarios.

the new nobels should be called the "no-balls" - they have a lot of nerve calling it an ODR-1. the wampler in 18w mode is far closer.

I use the Belle with 18V as a clean boost & light crunch pedal first, then 2 Duke of Tone MXR overdrives in boost setting with more and less Gain for max Dynamic sounds. This gives me all the sounds I want for Blues, Rock, Pop, Country, Hip Hop, Reggae, Gospel, Worship, etc, etc. For compressed sounds I use the Cali 76 Compact Deluxe.

I have both the new Nobels and the Belle. I don't like the spongy sound of the old one. I use them stacked and they are the best sounding overdrives to my ears. I play on a Supro coronado clone, a Marshall TSL 2000 and a Fender Princeton clone. These overdrives sound amazing on all of them. It's like having a professional producer come and dail in your tone for you. I like how the new Nobels comes with some suggested settings to get you started.

I like the belle. I think it can do all the odr1 does and way more because of the tunning capabilities. I build pedals myself and built an odr1 take on pedal. I did something like what Brian did that allows me to have control over the bass. He implemented a bass pot while I have three different bypass caps on one of the gain stages that changes the bass response. I have the original value which is pretty bassy and two lower options that tightens the bass. That mod alone is a whole new world of tone options. Anyways. The odr1 is great but the belle is a big step up. My opinion.

I have one of the original ODR-1's and love it. It has more fidelity than any of my other pedals. I also have a Wampler Pinnacle (the 2nd issue wide one) and love it, but got frustrated when he made the newer one a few years back because he added things that I would have asked for. Has I knew he was going to add upgrades I would have waited. I just missed him at the winter NAMM show when that one came out and wanted to ask if he wold give me a free upgrade since I would have asked for the additions he did before I had bought mine. I have enough overdrives so I am not tempted anymore to buy another.
