Just got this pedal in today... im very impressed. I have an old blackface Princeton and this overdrive is the most transparent OD I have ever used.. 100% recommend!!!
I am gunning for this pedal!!!! I remember when I paid Brian something like 60-70 british pounds in my money! And he made an overdrive pedal for me :) very well built and this was before he got famous :) he’s been a good builder from the beginning and just gets better
First “green” pedal,I’ve really liked. Can dial in or push in anything I want. And the size, well, it fits on my crowded board. This and my Fat Larry. Marriage from heaven.
Bought one These pedals thanks in part to your demo. Great review, outstanding pedal, I couldn’t be happier. You can hear the quality! Now I feel like a fan boy 🙂
No kidding! I've got a Belle and a Les Paul Classic with P90s... gonna haveta try to get that tone. The Belle is awesome! Witha Les Paul/P90s - even more awesome-ER!!!!
Tone was basically identical when the pedal was off or on... the tone when the pedal was off was amazing... the pedal sounded like it did almost nothing in this demo. I do believe that you thought it sounds good, but what your hearing and what comes across over UA-cam is two different things. That said, this was a great demo of your amp, which again sounds absolutely amazing!!!!🤷🏽♂️ seriously I want to buy that amp now!!
I disagree, I don’t find a lot of demos showing single coils through truly “clean” amps. In fact, there are way too many videos with P90’s and Humbuckers through amps with gain that it’s impossible to tell what these pedals will do with single coils and clean amps.
Well there's something to be said about putting it in front of a slightly broken up amp because I've seen a couple demos of this pedal and this is the best sounding demo I've heard. I'm sure the amp and those guitars have something to do with it as well... those P90s sound monstrous... Cool stuff, Wampler delivers yet again.
Great video. Good to see & hear a down-to-earth player & human. First off...before the pedal even came on..which amp are we hearing ?? RSA 23 ?? Nice sounding pedal but,....isn't this what one's amp should sound like ? OK, I am a Marshall & Vox man. So...RSA 23 ?? Thank You!!
Haha! It is a BTR23 which is basically a RSA23 with a master volume and a touch more gain. Great freakin amp. However I do have a RSA23 which has a click channel as well that is pretty tough to beat. Both are fantastic amps. That all being said the Belle is one of the better OD's I have ever used. Great pedal great price. Pretty tough to beat if you are looking for that sound at a low price point.
@@BrettPapa Now that I review the video again...I see that you did, in fact, already identify the amp. So...many thanks for the kind answer and not pointing that fact out to me , as some might have. Very best, CMCB
Hey Brett Happy new year man, Hope 2021 is good to you =) that's a sweet little pedal, never heard of that brand before either.... Just before xmas i finally picked up the BOSS BD-2 (blues driver). So far one of the best pedals i've ever come across it pairs so nicely with a Strat i'm so glad i bought it...be great to see you do your own review on that pedal if you have one. I've also got the DS-1 and have been trying to channel the two together and do the whole "gain stacking" thing but I can't seem to find a sweet spot for having those two pedals in the one signal chain.... each pedal seems to just stand tall on its own, I suppose BOSS pedals tend to do that haha =P
@@BrettPapa I'll tell you what two pedals do sound great together Brett, the DS-1 and the DD-8 Digital delay. I use those two pedals together for lead work if i'm just improvising over a jam track and practicing licks. very cool sound having distortion and a touch of delay together. I'm sure you'd know Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson? The tone I get is very similar to what you hear in that song =P

It’s refreshing to hear an overdrive pedal through an amp that’s already got some hair on it! I like to hear how a drive pedal merges with the harmonics of an amp. Great demo Sir!
A demo about a drive pedal, where you send an overdriven sound through an overdriven amp. How am I to tell which overdrive is which? Completely useless.@@aarondurham75

Haha! The amp and guitar do sound amazing together. Pedal is fantastic too though through many different amp and guitar combinations. Definitely worth getting.
Brett Papa! That tele through the BTR23 geeesh that's some good stuff right there. Not sure you need anything more. Pedal is nice too but what's the deal with the tele? Who made it and what pickups are in it. You have great tone's my friend. Got me saving for a BTR 23 and wondering what's the dealio with that tele sounding so good. Alder or Swamp Ash and what pickups. All the nerdy stuff we love.
Thanks man! It's a Bill Nash guitar. They sell ones exactly like at Chicago Music Exchange. It's an Alder body with Lollar Pickups just the way the guitar comes from the store. That BTR and Tele combo is ridiculous! Both my two desert island choices. Thanks for watching!

@@kevinking2468 I think it's based on the Nobles ODR-1 pedal, not the Klon. Wampler does the Tumnus pedal as their nod to the Klon. I have that pedal and it's my favorite OD pedal at the moment Great sounds at all settings!
Wampler pedals are good for sure. I have a few. I always enjoy your videos. How many drives should we buy? I can buy 5 this year and l will want 5 more next year. It gets outa hand really.
Thanks to this video and other opinions, I have to say that this pedal is .... amazing. Crisp. It's the first adjective that comes to mind. Crisp and subtle distortion...but not so subtle, if that makes sense, LOL. I have a Supro Blues King 12 amp that has gorgeous cleans but I never bonded with the dirt on it. There is a place for the dirt on this amp, but it's not what I want all the time. It's a great option of tone to have but it's not my go-to tone for dirt. The dirt (gain) on this amp is inherently fuzz. I'm just not a fuzz guy. Again, a time and place for it but not my first choice. That's on me, not the amp, of course. The amp has a beautiful throatiness to it that I really love, but for me, when you combine that throatiness and inherent fuzz it's just not up my alley. OK, enough, I think I made my point, LOL. The Wampler Belle allows me to give this amp exactly what I want from a distortion perspective. I don't want a crazy overdrive crunch, I just want a touch (perhaps a level or two above touch) of crunch, without fuzz, but still have the BK throatiness, and this pedal most certainly gives me that tone. It has 'Bass' and 'Color' knobs that gives you the flexibility to find that sweet spot. And the 'Gain' knob is pure glory. Absolutely love this pedal.
I'm in the same position as you, Steve. I've got the Supro Blues King too and like you, I never liked the amp's dirt. I've had the Nobels OD1 for a while which is the inspiration for the Belle. It's been a great pedal. When I heard that Wampler had produced an upgrade to the Nobels, I was really excited. It arrived this afternoon. At first I was a little disappointed. It wasn't the huge improvement that I was expecting but I've been playing around with it for a while and It's growing on me. It's certainly got more flexibility than the Nobels and on certain settings it's fractionally clearer. On the other hand, I didn't really need it as the differences between the two are slight and the Nobels is still a great pedal and the Belle is twice the price. Don't really know what to do. Haha. I have the option of returning it but I'm slowly getting attached to it now! :-)
Not sure on that. He likes his OG Nobles a lot. He seemed to really like the Keeley Noble Screamer a lot as well. Belle is a fantastic little pedal though.
I got the special edition of the Belle (Claymore) and it is a very very good OD pedal with my tele. Sounds good in my Tone King Imperial or even my VOXAC15.

Hey Brett...would you mind shooting over your settings for the BTR23? I have the same amp. Are you using the low or high jack and do you have the pull out engaged on the gain? Thanks so much.
Hey Even! I practically never change my settings except for the gain amount. No I must say there are two ways to approach it 1. with the OX (using a clock for reference) I have the main volume on all the way up and that lets me turn the gain down usually between 9-12 o'clock, bass 9, treble and mids between 12-2. When I can't turn it up I pull out the gain knob and put it between 11-2. I almost always use the top jack however the the bottom jack isa amazing and super useful. Hope that helps!
@@BrettPapa thank you so much. I have an OX as well that I use for both recording and slight attenuation live. Have the reissue ODR1 and then purchased the Belle after watching your demo. I live in the Germantown area in Nashville. Perhaps I will bump into you. Thanks for the reply.
Using a clean channel amp would focus on the pedal, gain on an amp plus a pedal is akin to combining two effect pedals. Uploader said and knew that would marr the review...did it anyway
I do it that way because most reviews use a clean amp. However in pro situations such as the session world a ton of those guys use this type of pedal for a little more of a push. There are tons of ways to use pedals effectively and this is one of them. I figure if that is how a ton of the session guys I know use it that it would be cool to show people that approach as well. Plus the maker of the pedal wanted me to do my thing with it so I did haha! I love this pedal and use it all the time.
There are tons. However I like to use another OD or boost pedal to get more gain. If you want straight up distortion pedals Wampler makes some great pedals like that as well.
I love you videos man. And u know you mention this in your video, but if I’m trying to tell from UA-cam what a pedal sounds like, I can’t tell diddly squat from videos where the amp is already overdriving. All I hear is the fantastic overdriven tone from your amp. I use my pedals into a clean amp. Anyway. Don’t want to be negative. I still love your videos. But a pedal demo into a dirty amp has very little objective value for me.
I hear ya for sure. There are tons of players that do fantastic videos of pedals like these through clean amps. However the are also tons of people like myself that run things into a slightly overdriven amp and use the pedals as more of a boost and work the guitars volume to clean things up. I cater my videos more towards that because I feel those are the type of videos that are not seen as much. Thanks for watching the vids! Glad to hear you like them!
Dialing in overdrive from the amp so one never gets to hear what the overdrive of the testet pedal sounds like. Pete Thorn also does that a lot. Hmm... I don't get it.
It's because that is the way a ton of players do it. Almost all of the classic rock songs back in the day were that way. They were a cranked amp which was already broken up with a pedal in the front.
@@BrettPapa sorry - I misunderstood and thought you were referring to a Klon Centaur. There’s so much silliness on the web... My understanding is that the many variations of this pedal are virtually identical but for component tolerance variations. I have no doubt that an early version in working order would sell for stupid money. However, you can get later variations for reasonable prices and the Mini ODR is available for about $80 right now.
@@BrettPapa It’s perfect, actually. I was an amp-distortion guy for 30years. Then, the pandemic happened and boredom got me into pedals. I have a lot of them now, and this one sounds like it could be on the board permanently.
There is already a ton of demos like that out there. I just do demos on how I use the gear. That way all perspectives get covered and not all of the same kinds of demos.
There are tons of great videos like what you are suggesting on the pedal already. There is no point in making the same video as everyone else. You have plenty of options and if you aren’t finding what you are looking for it is very simple to click on another video. Have a great day!

He didn't say it would mar the review, he said some people complain. Big difference. 99% of viewers don't care what complainers in the comments think.
Damn right it is so good!
I know, such a fantastic pedal!!!
That neck pickup is a bit of magic
I love Lollar's! Such great pickups!
What's a good Distortion Pedal that will compliment the Belle?
There are tons. However I like to use another OD or boost pedal to get more gain. If you want straight up distortion pedals Wampler makes some great pedals like that as well.
Great video. But then came The R4 and I forgot, that this is pedal demo
Haha! I love that thing!
Every single tone was usable, not many pedals can do that…pretty impressive.
Super impressed with this pedal! One will be going on my new board for sure!
Wampler the best pedals w the worse artwork
Funny enough, Brian himself isn't very fond of artwork, but he puts art on the pedals due to the advice given to him by his marketing team.
Oh hell yea!!!!!
Woooohooooo!
damn that is sweetness in a small footprint! and with the P90's fugettaboutit
For sure! I love that pedal and use it all the time!
Tele sounds great, les paul, awesome!
Thanks Steve!
How much tweaking's going on in post production here. Where is the (delay/reverb) coming from?
Not a lot. Pretty much how it sounds. The effects are coming from my OX Box.
Hey, speaking of Pedals, did you give away that pedal board yet?
Tomorrow! Livestream at 11 central to announce the winner.
Good pedal!. Odd that wampler who goes ballistic when folks call their pedals "transparent" would give that name to his own.
Sometimes we like to throw that reference in to see if you're paying attention....
Would this work well in boosting a lead/overdrive channel for lead tones?
For sure!
@@BrettPapa thank you Brett...looking to juice a JJ jr a bit
Holy hell. Gain is at like 35 lol. Thanks for the demo though.
Sure thing!
How does this pedal compare with the MXR Timmy?
Both are great but are voiced different.
is it the original P90 on the les paul 54 or the lollar 50's win (or other) ?
It's whatever came in the guitar!
@@BrettPapa yes of course but the 54 has a particular grain, which micro P90 do you use?
The gold top needs top hat knobs, those speed knobs trigger me
Haha
Dialing in overdrive from the amp so one never gets to hear what the overdrive of the testet pedal sounds like. Pete Thorn also does that a lot. Hmm... I don't get it.
It's because that is the way a ton of players do it. Almost all of the classic rock songs back in the day were that way. They were a cranked amp which was already broken up with a pedal in the front.
Nobels Odr-1 is super expensive?
Old ones are
They got "Klonned"
Which model \ 13 is that?
BTR23
Lol this isn’t a clone of an “expensive pedal”. It’s Brian’s take on the Nobels ODR-1.
Have you seen how much the original Nobels are going for?
@@BrettPapa sorry - I misunderstood and thought you were referring to a Klon Centaur. There’s so much silliness on the web...
My understanding is that the many variations of this pedal are virtually identical but for component tolerance variations. I have no doubt that an early version in working order would sell for stupid money. However, you can get later variations for reasonable prices and the Mini ODR is available for about $80 right now.
More bite than Odr-1?
Not to much different than that. More control over the other frequencies though.
Nice.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
@@BrettPapa It’s perfect, actually. I was an amp-distortion guy for 30years. Then, the pandemic happened and boredom got me into pedals. I have a lot of them now, and this one sounds like it could be on the board permanently.
Nice😊
Thanks!
that's a nice sounding reverb but maybe pump the brakes on that for a demo
There is already a ton of demos like that out there. I just do demos on how I use the gear. That way all perspectives get covered and not all of the same kinds of demos.
It’s a clean boost with an eq…
It's more than that. It is an OD that you can set like a clean boost if you want to.
No. It has clipping diodes as well.
Hey, you shorted us one Welcome!?!
Lol! I get the other two in next time!
Marshal/vox 🤔 guess we all have tone views
It honestly works great with everything.
cool guitar n amp
Thanks!
Have you ever played without a hat on? I like your wall.
Maybe once or twice lol!
Gain is good!
Yes sir!!
Cool
Thanks Dave!
Perfect tone, but I think 75% of it is that amp.
same. that amps tone is out the gate. im always in awe of it.
Both are great! That amp as a base tone is pretty tough to beat! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Love that thing!!
And look 2 Ox boxes on the shelf behind him.
*Update:* Just bought the Belle anyway. Pretty good into a Kemper... even though i can't find a Divided by 13 BTR 23 profile!
Well, shit...now I have to get one...the p 90 Les Paul also...
Lol! Yes you need one!
STOP USING REVERB FOR TONE DEMOS! NOT EVERYONE IS IN A COLDPLAY COVER BAND.
There are tons of great videos like what you are suggesting on the pedal already. There is no point in making the same video as everyone else. You have plenty of options and if you aren’t finding what you are looking for it is very simple to click on another video. Have a great day!
It ain't easy, living like a gypsy, tell you honey how I feel.
Your cheating with those lollars Greg...knock it off lol. Sounds good. Thanks
Not sure who Greg is but I love Lollars!
A Gibson that was in tune!
I've got 9 of them that all have awesome tuning stability.
My secret is installing Graphtech Tusq nuts...The Teflon that is impregnated in them is 3x more slippery than graphite and they are permanently lubricated. It WORKS !!!
@@stricknine8623 thx for the tip! That G string drives me “nuts”
Lol!
Ah, that is a good tip!
p-90 in a LP = rock n' roll.
For sure!
