Thanks so much for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Megas XLR! As well as what other shows do you think were gone too soon. (Note: I said Adult Swim coming out after Megas XLR, I meant to say the production had started before Adult Swim existing, so they couldn’t pitch their show to something that doesn’t exist yet.)
@@5uperM Same applies with TRON: Uprising i still check-out that series via Disney+ i even remember when it first came out/launched back in 2012 when i almost finished my High-School yrs & graduated.
Slightly sad story but, Megan’s XLR was the last thing me and my dad watched together before he passed away. We watched it late at night, and when it was over I went to sleep and that was the last time I saw him. And actually I think it was my last time watching Megas XLR too.
It's also a perfect example of what body positivity actually is. He's completely comfortable with his body and isn't bothered by what other people think, rather than being defensive or trying to change anyone else's mind about his body
@@BrotherHood-xh9sg I mean, someone as big as Coop with a lifestyle to match is probably going to have issues, but as a counter-argument: Sumo Wrestlers. Even the biggest of them only start having health issues after retirement. The secret to that is that there's actually two categories of fat on the human body: subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is stored in a layer under the skin, while visceral fat is stored in the body cavity. Due to the hormone adiponectin, which is produced by strenuous activity, an active person's body tends to store fat mostly as subcutaneous fat rather than visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat is less dense and has less of an effect on vital organs, and heavier individuals with more subcutaneous fat are at far lower risk of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes than similarly-sized individuals with a lot of visceral fat. Changing activity levels can actively change someone's fat distribution, this is what happens with sumo wrestlers when they retire - their bodies stop producing adiponectin and the fat starts shifting more towards visceral fat, while simultaneously their muscles atrophy. As a side note, weirdly enough despite Coop's sedentary lifestyle, he's actually shaped more like a sumo wrestler than someone who just lazes around and eats all day. You can tell by how his body is just big all around rather than the weight specifically being concentrated towards his midsection.
Coop was pretty much wild and unpredictable which is what made him literally stand out more than anything it wasn't just because he was big it was because he was just that lovable
I attended a panel at an anime convention where Wendee Lee was speaking, and I was surprised when she spoke so fondly about her role as Kiva. I thought Megas XLR had become such an obscure show, but it was cool to see she remembered it and enjoyed the character so much. Chicks dig giant robots, after all.
Steve Blum loved it too. When I saw him at comicon I mentioned how I wish he had megas art to autograph and he mentioned how much he liked that show and as I was leaving he shouted out "chicks dig giant robots" in Jamie's voice.
This show was a pure gem and left us way too soon. I still remember the rage I felt whenever I noticed the show no longer aired in its regular time slot, later to find out that it was cancelled. I hope it makes a return someday.
well, here's a kicker.... it probably never will. you see the franchise was written off as nonfundable or something like that and is now basically owned by the IRS. in other words, cartoon network sold it off to pay their tax collectors. and can no longer be used.
@@KaiTheLegend it really does. it's one of the reasons that i hate how the industry operates. in order to get their show made, a creator, who should have rights to the intellectual property they created, has to give those rights to the company funding their show. And while in the short term it's fine. it's the long term where problems arise, like with megas. it's happened way too many times where a creator got screwed over during or after the creation and conclusion of their show that I'm at the point where I am not okay with this business practice.
This show was freakin' genius. The way it paid tribute, and at the same time lampooned, anime, video games, kaiju and sentai programs, and 2000's culture was flawless.
Samurai Jack, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Megas XLR are all core memories of mine and I will not shut up about them. I can't believe it was so short-lived, and yet so iconic! It feels like Megas XLR is a show that was ahead of its time.
it literally was ahead of it's time. it was Airing at a time when being like coop was the most henus thing ever, as a gamer who was the scourge of reality at the time to something compleatly normal today
Great video! Couple points of order: me, Chris and George first became acquainted when we met in college (SVA in Manhattan). My first job with Chris P was on the Beavis and Butthead movie, specifically the hallucination sequence. And Linda Simensky had been a teacher of mine at SVA and we stayed in touch after graduation. The Comic Con meetup wasn't an ambush, though full disclosure she remembered me as the kid who always fell asleep in her class. In my defense, I was working full time to help pay for college and averaging about three hours of sleep a night, and she understood that :) Also insofar as the tax thing goes, it means CN can't make more until it makes its money back. And as you stated, it's been airing around the globe, so who knows what the future holds. 🤘
You’re the best Jody! Thanks for the inside info on the situation, truly appreciate that! Megas was incredible and if there is a chance at all in the future of it coming back, you know I’m on board supporting it day one! 🔥 thanks for checking out the video, it means a lot, also side note, that makes me love the Beavis and butthead movie more, it was a favorite of mine growing up and my dad and I bonded over it!
One of the greatest cartoons ever made. I'm still annoyed about the cancellation nearly 20 years later. It has everything. Action, comedy, giant robots, aliens, hot chicks, what more could you ask for? This show is literally every little boys imagination come to life. If Samurai Jack can get another season 15 years later maybe there is still hope for Megas XLR.
Wb as a Big corporation is a fckn joke, they hold so much own so much content to so many awesome nostalgic fictional characters of our childhood yet decades after decades and nothing. Basically either forgotten, dumped in the trash bin or locked inside the vault. Prob can put disney out of fckn business if they were to do it right. Now discovery bought it and they tryna save dc with copy paste of 10 yr plan like mcu did. Lets see if they go into every gold mine treasure they have in their arsenal and hopefully cartoon like megas and other great shows will be revived ?? Only time will tell
I hope it never comes back. Samurai Jack season 5 started good but then was ruined and rushed. I don't want to see Megas get the same treatment especially in today's PC society.
Hilariously, Coop is the only good example of fat acceptance I can think of. No one idolizes him for being fat, it's not treated as an ideal, or even good way to live, but the man is happy, and those around him accept him.
Exactly. The body positivity movement does us fat dudes a disservice. It should never be normalized or treated as a good thing to be fat. Because it isn't. But we should still be able to be accepted as individuals. Fat fucks can contribute and be cool, too. Every fight needs a tank, after all.
plus i hate when fat characters are reduced to being "ugly" or just "the funny fat guy", i mean being fat isn't a good thing, but they're still people, not walking punchlines, it's fine to have a big dude who likes to eat, but it's annoying when a character starts and ends with "this is the fat guy, he is fat, laugh now" like we've seen all these jokes before it's time to move on
@@jasperjazzie you touched the surface so perfectly well, bad writers always struggle to make ugly characters likeable, look at how many struggle to make a gay character that isnt nauseating, or to make a raging feminist look interesting or likeable, look at how many movies and shows are flopping because they keep plugging a woke agenda first, while writing interesting characters comes dead last, it's been 1 fail after the next. We know it would be actually quite easy to just go with another easily likeable hero like captain America, not much room to fail with him he always represented the "strive to be our best" side of ourselves, but to turn a fat fuck into a likeable hero? MegasXLR beautifully did something not many others could ever pull off.
I remember absolutely loving this show. However the hardest part was just finding when it was on. It wasnt like the other shows they'd just run over and over. It was on like once a week in one time slot, and if you missed it, you missed it
Dude I remember loving this show and I had the same problem! They one played the pilot episode multiple times for the promo, and it wasn’t for very long
When I met Steve Blum, I asked him to say "Chicks dig giant robots." He practically shouted it at me, followed up by "Nice!" Then, he thanked me for watching Megas.
"Fun" is the best way too describe this show. Megas XLR is there for if you wanted a good time. It's exciting its funny its action packed it's chill. I loved this show and I would give my entire everything to get it back
Megas is probably one of the best shows to come out of the 2000's. Its a fucking shame they won't/can't make anymore of it. Also shout out to evil coop for pretty much turning new Megas into its universe's version of the Sazabi considering its a gundam reference.
I think that if a corporation refuses to make ANY real content (investing in either full merchandising/running a show) while creators want to continue it, the rights should be moved to the creators after 5-10 years. The network can retain using their likeness (during the ownership period, not content made after) in spin-offs but future production is no longer controlled by the network. Shit like this happens so often and it’s a gross show of what big dogs do to the artists
@@Mecharnie_Dobbs No it capitalism. They can still own the rights to everything related to the product, getting all the profits from merch sells, reruns, etc... Without paying a single Penny for any profits of it now. Also they can just reboot the show if they ever want to, without any input from the actual people who thought and wrote it.
As a chunky kid when this came out, it was a nice change of pace to see how optimistic Coop was and how he embraced being a big guy. Even though I'm way more in shape I'll always have a soft spot for big goofy guys like him. Also this was the first real foray for me into mech shows outside of Big O. I managed to get my hands on one of the prized figures they released years ago and it's one of my most prized possessions. I hope to one day get it signed by the creators but who knows.
This show was gold from the intro, telling you exactly what you were getting: A Giant Robot Car. Truly one of the shows I'd happily sit down and watch as an adult with equal joy that I had as a kid. It's painful to hear that corporate nonsense is the reason it only had two seasons.
@@christianweibrecht6555 It may be possible to buy the rights if you've got the money, though the whole tax write off bit is a major kick in the teeth.
As a big vintage anime and mecha fan, you nailed the references! There’s so many little ones like Mazinger Z, Harlock, Brave Raideen too. I was happy you caught the Sazabi reference! I haven’t seen this show in yeeaaarrs, thanks for the amazing video!
This cartoon especially fueled my passion for art. I'm an artist now and living well off of it. I will always remember that it was probably the only show I actually had to draw off DSTV for weeks because we couldn't pause it back then and I didn't have access to a digital camera. All my friends and school mates agreed back then my drawing looked exactly just like it was the show when I showed them. It will always have a special place in my heart (along with the original Ben 10).
I was 22 when this show came on the air. It was perfect timing, my friends and I loved it. It felt like a show about us. It's a shame it didn't make it to adult swim, I have a feeling it would of had a few more seasons where it's real target audience was.
I remember how Coop's speeches at the end of the episodes always made me laugh. This show was an embodiment of a fun, Saturday cartoon. It's so sad to see it being locked in the legal prison.
This show was literally ahead of its time, in that it probably could have been an even bigger hit on any adult targeted programming block, like Adult Swim, or on a streaming service today. Sounds like their downfall was being at the mercy of network executives who had no interest in the show.
By the mid 2000s it was already subconsciously becoming apparent that CN was going downhill, and while there certainly where a few more really good shows after 2005 like Robotboy and the original Ben 10 show, I think in my opinion that awful, below mediocre show called "Elliott Kid" is what marked the beginning of the end because it was progressively eating up screentime of other shows I liked.
Fred definitely got some respect from me agreeing to race Coop. Whether or not the Cuda was on Megas or driving around on its wheels. Fred was punching above his weight class...(no pun intended due to Coop being....well...Coop)
I remember Coop being incredibly pissed that his evil alt universe self got skinny. Like that was the third thing on the "you did all these unforgivable things!" list. As a big man myself, I enjoy that Coop prefers being a big dude.
Yoo the story of how this show came to be is so unique! I hope they’ll get their license back this show has a huge potential and so sad to hear that the network canceled it
OMG, i thought you would never cover this show Jordan! Megas XLR was another major part of my childhood it was such a badass cartoon i especially loved the theme song it was so damn catchy! although it sucked that the show was cancelled but at least it managed to last 2 seasons unlike Sym-Bionic Titan that was cancelled after only 1 and speaking of Sym-Bionic Titan, i often wondered what it would've been like if they did a crossover of those shows since they both involved giant robots but sadly we'll never know.
I feel like another pretty good crossover candidate for this show would be Kappa Mikey (corporate politics aside, of course). Those two just largely seem like two of a kind to me.
Megas XLR's late time slot reminds me of Sonic Boom's early time slot. People, especially kids, are least likely to watch any show too late at night or too early in the morning. Basically, CN wanted these shows to end and did nothing to give them more support.
This is probably the show that really cemented my love for giant robots when I was a kid as it aired. Kick ass music, cool mech designs, likeable characters, and hype fight scenes. I didn't know about all of the other mecha/anime references until this video. Now I need to watch it again as an adult.
I loved this show, it really was outstanding. One of my core memories of school is sitting at home alone watching it in the morning, only for the house phone to ring with my mum on the other side. She asked what I was still doing at home, and I realised it had gone past 10am when I was supposed to be at school for 8:30am. School had called her to ask where I was and I was just sitting in the front room watching Megas XLR. Those were simpler times, I still miss Megas a great deal
The changing and non sensical controls of Megas was one of my favourite parts of this show. Going between the car's controls, game pads, fight sticks that face smash button and in one episode a light gun was always funny to me
Megas XLR was, if not still is, one of my favorite shows ever. Despite groing up in Puerto Rico and knowing nothing of New Jersey way back then, I still found it an amazing show. And years later rediscovering the show and realizing all the references it made just made the whole thing better. My brother and I cosplayed as Coop and Jamie one year for a comic con, with matching backpacks where I first learned how to knit in order to decorate the packs with patches to look just like Megas. Coop was an idol for me growing up fat, being that he was a big character that liked videogames as a protagonist (which was kinda frowned upon and bullied for growing up), because it showed that I could grow up big and still be happy somehow with the things I love, which I still try to to this day. Amd everyday, Megas XLR is part of my life, being putting a lot of decals into every car I own and take really good care of, to art prints of it on my wall, to still having the theme as a ringtone for almost 10 years, to even having either Coop or Megas as my profile picture on some internet service like Discord. Yeah.... Megas means a lot to me to this day, and I wish we can see it get the smae treatment as Samurai Jack did someday....
JORDAN, I LOVE YOU. I requested this a couple videos ago and did NOT expect this to come out! You were probably already working on it but seriously, THANK YOU. This show was one of the better fever dreams of my childhood somewhere twenty years ago. Thank you for making this video.
This show was ahead of its time, Innovative, silly, full of action, with a plot you enjoyed from start to finish. I only wish there had been more episodes. Coop was a great character and the kind of oddball hero who wasn't super deep, or smart, at first glance but his skill with Megas and how he rebuilt the robot shows he had it where it counts.
Can't believe it turns 20 years in just 2 years time. I was only 9 when it came out but it was one of those shows that you'd watch nonstop back in the early 2000s.
This is the quintessential show of my highschool era. I freaking loved it so much. Thank you for making this episode and giving me some closure. I couldn't believe it when they took it off the air.
I got a chance to watch this show recently and I loved it! It's hilarious! I especially loved the episodes that referenced the pop culture icons like transformers, power rangers, and sailor moon. The episodes with those (80s space robots) as I call them were my favorites! Jordan you rock! I'm so glad you talked about this show! I hope you are doing well!
This was peak level robot/ Kaiju fighting show that was American made. I often reference the theme, and the concept more so than people seem to understand. God this show was so good, even had Steve Blum voicing. Boy, I don’t think it realized what I was watching was gonna be so missed as it was cut down in its prime. I salute everyone who remembers this show with love and respect it deserved. It really was a great time.
I always got those MTV vibes from this show. The laid back atmosphere, almost stonehead main characters. It reminded me of Beavis and Butthead, and Daria. I loved it. And the fact that it was based in New Jersey was straight out of Kevin Smith movies. I wouldn't be surprised if Jay and Silent Bob showed up in the background somewhere.
Given what a geek KS is I'm sure he & Mewes would be down to do an episode or two in character. Hell Jason Mewes is practically a full-time VA now given how often I hear his distinctive voice on games & animated shows.
This show will always, always have a special place in my heart. It was just so fun, so creative in so many ways. They used to broadcast it at FOUR in the morning. And I still managed to watch it every now and then. It needs to get back one day, please.
Thanks very much for the recap on Megas XLR. I was a Gen-Xer in my late thirties when I stumbled on this show, and I absolutely loved it. It would follow the Justice League Unlimited animated show on Saturday nights. The two shows couldn't be more different, and both were just perfect Saturday night animated mayhem.
This is literally my favouritest CN show next to Ed, Edd n Eddy I've rewatched like 4 times. So glad you covered it and actually gave me some closure as to why it was never brought back with the whole tax law situation. I hope one day it can be reincarnated *fingers crossed*
As a kid the show felt like it was made for me cars, guns, anime video games, comics it was everything I loved as a kid and still loved to this day the fact that megas's control unit is basically ripped off a 72 Plymouth Cuda is just bad ass
I do miss this series. I was hoping for a comeback so desperately but I know tax write offs mean the end of the IP's use. So, I'm happy with what we got. I'm always happy to see Megas XLR show up anywhere.
I could go on forever about how much I love this show. I watched it in the middle of the night in a block with Code Lyoko while I was getting through unemployment-based insomnia. I still listen to the soundtrack regularly.
This show caught my attention because Megas' head is a Plymouth Barracuda, and then, I stayed. Me and my brother still quote this show on a daily basis. Also, Jamie becoming the leader of the Resistance in the future was frickin awesome
Thank you for making this video. This explains so much of things I did not understand as to why it never got a remake even after all this time despite its popularity. It makes me legitimately mad that they took this sucessful show, cut off its legs then claimed it was a loss, took it behind the shed shot it and burned its corpse so no one else could use it just so they could make a little extra money by writing it off as a loss.
It was a GREAT show, I loved all the POP anime parodies. The Gundam refferences, the Sailor moon, ALL of them were awesomely hilarious. It was a show that didn't deserve the corporate car crusher.
Fun fact the pilot episode future bit was a cavalcade of references to the works Wendy Lee worked on. For example Her mech is based on the FTO from Magic Knight Rayearth( for which she voiced 2 characters), the Glorft Commander's exchange after seeing Kiva's Megas design is a homage to Macross/ Robotech's Bretai and Exedol exchange when they see the human modified SDF 1 Macross. Coincidentally Robotech was Wendy Lee's first VA role for anime.
Dude I literally just had a thought about this yesterday and was going to put in a comment as a recommendation for your next video but I couldn't remember the name of the show
Man I re-watched some Megas XLR episodes a while back and they hold up to my memories! This show had some seriously great Mech fights in it and with the goofy tone of the show it just made them a joy to watch. The running gag with the constantly re-worked and re-labeled controls playing into the action always made me laugh when I was younger and it still makes me laugh every time now! My favorite one was probably the when Kiva tells Coop no smashing and one of the buttons on the controls just say "general pummeling" that joke is gold.
Megas XLR is still one of my fondest memories growing up. I watched every episode that I could and played the hell out of the flash games. The theme song lives rent free in my head and I’m perfectly happy to let it stay there
Living here in Jersey Fighting villains from afar You gotta find first gear In your giant robot car! You dig giant robots! I dig giant robots! We dig giant robots! Chicks dig giant robots!
Despite having a super solid video covering a core childhood memory nearly lost to the ether, I don't know if I can trust or forgive you for the pizza with ranch and pickles abomination.
This along with Sym-Bionic Titan are shows that give me a livid sort of feeling that CN cancelled them. They were good, fun, and had interesting moments.
This was a great show. Heck, I knew two guys who may have been the inspiration for the show! They were two mechanics who lived in north New Jersey. One was looked SO MUCH like Coop, he went to a convention dressed in the same clothes as the character and was BASICALLY A REAL-LIFE CLONE of him.
the episodes are up on youtube if anyone wants to re watch them, i was sad when it left as it was a different show and was funny (all thre smsh buttons when coup was told by kiva that he wasnt allowed to smash) i torrented it yonks ago, still watch it every now and again, holds up, cheers for the video
I think about this show from time to time. I miss this era of Cartoon Network. You had action shows, comedy shows, Toonami, the Friday night block, Adult Swim was still fairly new. Good times.
Also grew up during this *golden* era of Cartoon Network. Never missed a day watching TOONAMI after finishing a day in Highschool and enjoying every minute of it. Now being 35, I trult wish I could go back in time and relive those days...
I remember stumbling upon a blog by the creators and future plans would include Coop being the reason the Gloft existed in the first place, wrapping up the time paradox question. Man I wish this would get rereleased at least..I don't think they even got a DVD out of it. Let alone continuing the story!
Those two “transformers” bots you were talking about, one of them is a direct design reference to mazinger, the other one kind of looks like a devilman inspired bot, also the gray bots next to the sazabi inspired one, are all clearly zaku inspired
They pulled influences from everywhere. I can see Scourge and Galvatron in the devilman colored bot. i say YES they're sazabi and zaku inspired but they're also so much more.
The Gloft Commander is voiced by the same guy who voiced Jolee Bindo in KOTOR. Also, if they revived Samurai Jack with a darker tone for the audience that originally grew up with it, they can do the same with MEGAS XLR.
MAKE MORE MEGAS, THIS SHOW WAS DOPE. I had this entire show on my pc when I was 12 and rewatched it so many times and wondered why didnt they make more? The last episodes were cool and coops alter ego could have had so much potential for future seasons and what the new megas could do.
I loved this show as a kid and still do as an adult. Have the creators ever thought of trying a kickstarter to by the rights? As David Xanatos says “Pay a man enough and he’ll walk barefoot into hell”.
It doesn't work as well as you think. Crowdfunding does 2 things well.... gauge interest in something, and show the impulse level of the audience. But this basically does all the hard work for the IP Holders, NOT those seeking to obtain it. You just proved the IP has generated an audience... and this in turn raises the value of the IP in the process. You're then stuck in a horrible bargaining position. Even if the current IP holder never intends to do anything with it (short of bare minimum to maintain ownership), to them, its worth "at least" 4 to 10 times what crowdfunding raised. On top of which, you've signaled other major copyright housing entities that this is worth looking at; and those guys have deeper pockets. A lot of places are also a lot more aggressive in bargaining when "approached". Because we live in an age where originality is too risky, it makes older IPs more attractive, and more valuable on existing brand recognition alone. Honestly, the only way to access to an IP is to either do all the hard work on a project that will promote the IP, and THEY get to reap the merchandising license money..... OR catch them in a fire sale, to dump IPs they don't think are valuable, and have no interest in pumping up themselves. Just look at what Squenix is doing with all hits Western studios and associated Franchises. They're basically unloading them to Embracer group on the cheap, in order to purify their portfolio for a possible sale to Sony.
I never forgot :') The DMV bit is my favorite because when I was younger I didn't get it and still thought it was funny anyway. Now that I am old enough to know the pain of going there I can often imagine Coop destroying it and I would be cheering with the same evil laugh.
Didn't understand this show for the most part as a kid but as I got older, I realized how amazing it is, especially post Pacific Rim and me getting into gundam and gunpla
This show was so nostalgic I never imagined a chilled out gamer guy sitting in a car that's literally a robot while loving fast food I wish the creators could bring this show back
You surprise me with yet again another classic I was thinking about these days. But do you remember Storm Hawks? That one definitely deserves a video. Or Tutenstein?
Man I loved this show as a kid. I remember drawing the Megas robot when I was like 10 or so and sharing my art with teachers and classmates. Looking back at it now, it was pretty damn good considering I'm a MUCH better artist now. I suppose it's helped improved my craft in a sense. The early 2000's hold some of my best memories, this is without a doubt one of them!
Loved this show as a kid and ended up rewatching it recently on iTunes. It still holds up. I’m also from New Jersey and it was nice to see some representation.
I do want to say that shows like Megas XLR,The Spectacular Spider-Man,Swat Kats and Rise of the TMNT where people do love and want to see more end up getting cancel due to either ratings, toy sales or some other reasons which is sad to be honest.
This show has one of the best intros out there. I forgot about xlr for a few years other the line " giant robot car" before rediscovering the intro and remembering it. Definitely towards the top of my list to rewatch, at least for the intro.
I still remember staying up nearly every night to watch this show as a kid. I would sit right infront of the tv with the volume as low as possible so my parents wouldn't notice i was up watching tv in the middle of the night. I didn't understand most of the references at the time but i still loved it

That’s awesome. Personally I’d love to see her Coop and Jamie’s VAs do a reunion. It was so funny when I realized who voiced who
This is basically Ben 10. Coop = Ben. Kiva = Gwen. Glorft = Vilgax
Sad it ended too soon.
Steve Blum loved it too. When I saw him at comicon I mentioned how I wish he had megas art to autograph and he mentioned how much he liked that show and as I was leaving he shouted out "chicks dig giant robots" in Jamie's voice.
I too often forget things I am directly involved with for years of my life.
I might be wrong, but I dont think it can. Due to tax bullshit, and the cartoon being a 'write off', I dont think the IP can ever be touched again
@@michaellarose4913 yeah, I got to that part in the video already… that fuckin’ sucks.
Indeed
Indeed it truly was ahead of its time
So rare to see a show this far ahead of its time. Truly a sign of the passion that was put into it.
Ong.
In my defense, I was working full time to help pay for college and averaging about three hours of sleep a night, and she understood that :)
Also insofar as the tax thing goes, it means CN can't make more until it makes its money back.
Honestly if they released it for streaming or a DVD collection they would probably make a lot of money with it
@@Texaskilljoy IIRC it's up in iTunes, so there's that :)
Wow
Hopefully the future holds more Megas XLR
One of the greatest cartoons ever made. I'm still annoyed about the cancellation nearly 20 years later. It has everything. Action, comedy, giant robots, aliens, hot chicks, what more could you ask for? This show is literally every little boys imagination come to life. If Samurai Jack can get another season 15 years later maybe there is still hope for Megas XLR.
I would ask for more philly cheese steaks
thats why it was canceled the network sh hated it.
@@charlesballiet7074 They used it as a tax writeoff, complete disrespect
Every fight needs a tank, after all.
plus i hate when fat characters are reduced to being "ugly" or just "the funny fat guy", i mean being fat isn't a good thing, but they're still people, not walking punchlines, it's fine to have a big dude who likes to eat, but it's annoying when a character starts and ends with "this is the fat guy, he is fat, laugh now" like we've seen all these jokes before it's time to move on
And then he died at 45 from a massive coronary... and the Glorft won by default. lol
@@jasperjazzie You have Homer Simpson and Peter Griffen to blame for a lot of that in the current generation.

"Fun" is the best way too describe this show. Megas XLR is there for if you wanted a good time. It's exciting its funny its action packed it's chill. I loved this show and I would give my entire everything to get it back
It's playing videogames and getting pizza with your friends, distilled into a 30 minute cartoon.
Man I loved this show. Everything I want in animation. Aliens, wrestling, giant robots, and tons of silly humor. Chicks dig giant robots!
Nice!!
Rock on!
It had balance between cool plots/silly humour/ seriouesness

They can still own the rights to everything related to the product, getting all the profits from merch sells, reruns, etc... Without paying a single Penny for any profits of it now.
Also they can just reboot the show if they ever want to, without any input from the actual people who thought and wrote it.
@@Johncornwell103 Except... They can't "just reboot the show" bc they used the show as a tax write off....
It's absolute evil to keep the rights of a show you're never gonna use. These copyright laws are WAY too strict
Yea thats wack as hell
Like seriously why keep rights to something they're not making any money on instead of selling those rights
They wrote off the show as a loss in their taxes so they'd have to deal with the tax man to be allowed to make anything megas related
It really is terrible. So many video games have gotten that same treatment.
I saw Harlock too. Which was really neat
One scene featured yhe bow of the Space Battleship Yamato too
I cringed when you called the mazinger and raiders mechas transformers
Getter Robo G and Gaiking also featured.
Along with a Combattler V attack.
Good for you, 💯
With all the reruns dstv has, who needs pausing
Cheers to you bro, huge Ben 10 fan with DSTV and learned to draw from cartoons on TV. They didn't look exactly like the characters though but arill
Megas XLR was one of the inspirations for me to become a robotic engineer.
Sounds like their downfall was being at the mercy of network executives who had no interest in the show.
this show was basically Rick and Morty extravaganza before rick and morty was a thing
@@Beef3D And it was a French show…
That commercial of Fred in the Mystery Machine feeling really emasculated next to Megas at a traffic light lives in my brain rent free to this day.

For real its 20 years later why no reboot or continuation. Samurai Jack got a well deserved wrap up 15 years later this deserves one 100%

Thanks so much for watching!
Even to this day I remember Megas XLR and I'm glad to see someone talking about it. I loved this show
Can't believe it turns 20 years in just 2 years time. I was only 9 when it came out but it was one of those shows that you'd watch nonstop back in the early 2000s.
The show is a textbook definition of underrated gem! If this show were to ever come back, I am in for it
To be underrated it would have to have low ratings. This show was a beast when it wasn't being dicked around by a network actively trying to tank it.

Appreciate it! Thanks so much for watching! Hope all is well!
Peter Deluise and Steve Blum were perfect as Coop and Jamie.
Its why they kept blowing up the fake mtv's stuff (the mtv analogue in the show)

I'm dead serious, the theme song for this show still plays in my head to this day occasionally. Happened two days ago or so.
It still hurts this show was closed.. I hope it comes back!
I do miss this series. I was hoping for a comeback so desperately but I know tax write offs mean the end of the IP's use. So, I'm happy with what we got. I'm always happy to see Megas XLR show up anywhere.
You can always see the show again
This show had everything from giant robots, to future alien wars and I loved every second of it.

Man I loved this show as a kid. I remember drawing the Megas robot when I was like 10 or so and sharing my art with teachers and classmates. Looking back at it now, it was pretty damn good considering I'm a MUCH better artist now. I suppose it's helped improved my craft in a sense. The early 2000's hold some of my best memories, this is without a doubt one of them!
dude i did that so many times, i might have drawn 1000 versions of megas as a child
I didn't understand most of the references at the time but i still loved it
Cosmic forces must have aligned as this vid showed up in my suggested video list today … Awesome!
Great video and new sub! MEGAS FTW!
I remember, and still love, this show. I doubt we'll ever get something like it again. That world is.. long gone.
