This particular example looks pretty flimsy. I am now convinced that the best frame for upholstered furniture is 15/16 inch plywood, each side computer cut from a single piece of furniture grade plywood, with no joints. I think Lane and England make it this way.

Uncle Bernie The sturdiest high-end furniture is made using solid hardwood. The frame above isn’t flimsy in size. There are furniture makers using plywood for frames but I can’t tell if it’s for quality purposes or because it’s cheaper and furniture makers are desperate to stay competitive with China. A lot of high end makers are using methods now they wouldn’t have years ago.

Actually he said hardwood not hard wood. Look up the difference between hardwood and softwood. It is about the family it belongs to not the hardness of the wood.
