Hey Gang! We've been waiting a long time for this one! Had the idea of the reglet baseboard detail wayyy back in the framing stage so really cool to see it come to life here! We did cut a 6 inch piece of base to check it out after we were done and MAN does it look good!
It feels like we're getting so close! So what team are you on, Vanilla or Blonde?!
You mentioned that you’ll stop saying “it’s the next day”. I honestly like when you do. Gives us “chapters” in each video.
It gives a good frame of reference for timelines for all the different projects
I agree, also gives us a way to see just a long things take
Yep. One annoying thing about many other construction channels is you don't get a realistic feel for how long things take. Mistakes and real timelines are much more beneficial than squeaky clean overly produced DIY shows.
Agree 100%. I think when I first watched Stud Pack I just thought "that's unnecessary", but I just don't think it would feel like a Stud Pack video without knowing it's the next day...don't stop!
I especially like it when it’s something you should really be waiting for awhile. And you’ll never know because 30 seconds can cover 12 hours of idle time on video
Flush baseboard installation, but... you never install the baseboards?
Makes the video pointless
"the next day ..."
Lost me when you click bait. Bye bye
Yeah was wondering same thing. I wanted to see what it looks like
Also, if you knew you were going flush why not install the drywall higher up for it? Why go through the process of cutting afterward
When you install tongue & groove ceilings, always measure out how many boards it will take to finish to the edge. If you need 20.2 whole boards, then you'll have a super skinny end piece. Instead, tablesaw your first board so that it will be similar in size to your end board. This is especially important because it allows for framing errors without being too noticeable. If your framers are out of square by 1/2", then that's less noticeable on a 3" wide end piece than a 1" wide end piece. On another note, if your boards aren't long enough and you need to splice them, I recommend mapping out a good "center beam" point that goes perpendicular to the others so that all of your boards remain unspliced and simply dive into the "decorative beam." It is a very clean look that elevates your work above your competition.
Glad to see I'm not the only one out here using the dust masks to protect my forehead while sanding.
Happy Birthday Jordan!
😂😂😂 this made us laugh, thanks Rocky!
Yessss! That made me laugh out loud. 😂😂😂 Happy Thirty Jordan!
Too funny! 😅
Just yesterday (installing GoBoard) I realized my mask was on my forehead & my safety glasses were sitting above it… in my hair! 😂🤣
@@mattwilliamson1714love the GoBoard!
Didn’t finish the skirting board (baseboard),I was waiting all video to see it guys
Me too
Why didn't they show the baseboard install? What a waste of time..smh. the title of the video should be changed
All in personal prefrence. I admire the skill and patience it takes to pull off, but I much prefer traditional baseboard
Ditto here, I'm a traditional type of guy LOL. Not only that but I think it'd be a pia to keep clean
@@mikemilburn7823Yep!
Have you seen them in person?? I thought the same way till i saw them in a finished house. They are definitely clean looking if done the right way!
@@sstelect Not seen them in person, and I agree they do look good when pulled off well! It's more that I just enjoy historical building details like the stuff Brent Hull talks about on his channel!
@@sstelect No I haven't. I've never even heard of that style until I saw it here.
The best solution for bucket drywall is to cut a piece of Saran wrap on the bucket lid and smooth remaining mud flat , place Saran wrap on top of mud so all air is locked out.
I did just that, and I've had more than a year between uses, and it was still good!
Great tip. Thanks
That is our method too.
That's what I do.
Wouldn’t the Saran Wrap still cause the same mold issue from time to time. I don’t think this comment really helped at all. If the spores get into the container, they are already there
I like the blond to contrast the all white just a little bit. It feels so close to being done on this end, I can just imagine how close it feels for you guys.
Hats off to you sir! 61 and still working hard surrounded by your kids working along with you. Father’s dream.
Nice work Studpack. I installed a new shower enclosure last year and wanted to use Trimtex. There's a different version than you used with a wider perforated flange... that's the correct shit to use. Tried to source it...nope...gotta buy lifetime supply. Even though I live a couple miles from Trimtex ...no can do. I ended up using the stuff you guys used for around windows that one place in all of SoCal had. Another: great product nobody fukn has! Next shower I'll call Trimtex again and tell them that I'm doing a re-clit shower and a bundle will get delivered as a sample for crying out loud.
I did a shadow on a knee wall shadow line between the top of the knee and an oak shelf at the top. I recommend that you paint the recessed shadow area flat black. It enhances the shadow effect and will match the black trim of the windows. Just paint it black before you install the baseboard. Man! That is going to be one awesome garage!
Great tip
I LOVE Paul's comment about a clean jobsite being a morale booster. 18:20 It is 100% true. My brother-in-law is redoing his master bath, but it's taking forever, and there's tools and materials all crusted with dried thinset everywhere! All I did was tidy up a bit and his wife thinks I'm the bee's knees. (My pleasure, sis, you're the best)! Oh--I also did the plumbing 😅
I get a bit overwhelmed/depressed on a diy project when the job site has tools, crap, , materials, debris everywhere. But Once I clean and organize it, I'm motivated to keep going and get it done, as the job then seems more manageable.
2 things. First, I say go with the Vanilla floor. Has a bit more of a modern feel which matches the vibe of the space. 2.) If you knew you were doing Reglet from the getgo, wouldn't it have been easier to install spacer blocks at the floor and hang your drywall on that. Then just remove the spacer blocks and you would have had the height and reveal ready to go?
I really like the modernist touches. But I can't say I have the patience to do all the extra measuring and mudding along the base like that.
Kind of feel like this may have been an after the fact decision. Would have been simpler to rip a piece of wood the size they needed for the reveal and tack it to the wall when hanging drywall, then install the reglet before having the dyrwall joints finished. There was a lot of extra work the way they did it...but modern details like this are still extra work even when you do it efficiently. It's why so many homes just stick with the traditional way of doing things.
You guys are seriously killing it! I adore seeing the genuine praise & encouragement between you… I was so tickled when Andrea Bocelli started playing on Paul’s phone… “You can’t go wrong with Bocelli!” I agree! 🤭
"I thought someone really important was calling you." Uh... that was Matt Risinger on line one... ;-)
I was just thinking earlier that it would be great if Stud Pack uploaded
Gotta say I appreciate that you guys are doing a mix of old school building techniques and new things that I've never heard of or seen before. It's awesome that you're willing to try new things and then post it here for other people to see the outcome.
RE: oscillating tool blades, I got some very cheap blades on Amazon; like 50 blades for $30. I want to be clear - they're hot garbage, but they're fine for drywall and soft wood. (Construction/framing lumber, deck material, etc.) Would have been perfect for some of this.
I do the same. Usually you aren’t doing finish work so the blades don’t really matter.
Great tip, thanks. Because those blades are priced like there is a black market for them.
Project farm did a review on a bunch of blades. I forget the name of them, but you can find his video pretty easily. Best titanium blades for the money.
They are all trash. By the Amazon 50ish bundle. Use them every day. Work the same.
Use a grinder with a cutoff blade to grind new teeth into the old blade.
Happy Birthday Jordan 🎉. Turning 30 is great! You'll start to realize "Happy Hour" is a nap.
Vanilla, but only my opinion, i had those waterfall faucets in my house and have installed thousands of them. i personally, personally, hate that they hit the drain and then splatter all over the counter. Love you guys
I know you read all these, so I just wanted to tell you thanks.
I got sucked into "oh it's just a few deck boards" into rebuilding teh entire deck. And it was really annoying having to switch bits all the time. and I remembered that you had the little magnetic wrist wrap and liked it. So i bought one. THING IS A MASSIVE GAME CHANGER. heck it pays for itself in not losing bits every 22 seconds.
so thanks for that and all the great content you guys put out.
I would smash the like button right away, but I think in the theme of this video, I should wait until "it's the next day" 🤣🤣🤣
It's nice to see hidden lighting returning to the ceiling. It was standard in homes through the 1940s, and it's a great feature. I love your attention to detail when building. It truly marks the difference between a general contractor and an artisan craftsman.
Vanilla flooring!! This place is looking great so far!!
20:08 So Paul said he was going to stain the boards while the young ones cut in and roll the gable ends. In the next scene, he is cutting in and rolling not staining. 😂
Vanilla is my choice, but i am not sure what the trim looks like nor the rest of Ikea kitchen fixtures.
I say this come out 41 seconds after you uploaded!
But then had to go eat dinner before I could finish the video and the comments.
Happy Birthday Jordan!!
Loved you calling out Matt R.!
And of course we want to see you weld/merge/connect the led!
I have said before that if there was a 24/7 cam that I could watch of everything going on there that I would even love that!
Still wish you were somehow able to upload 3 or more times per week, but I understand LOL!
Almost 15K views in just the first 2 hours since posting.
GO STUD PACK!!!
I'll be curious about what the final product looks like, but I kinda like the idea of flush baseboard. Sometimes normal baseboard can be kind of annoying when you want a piece of furniture to be pushed against the wall.
I say don't stop saying "It's the next day" because it helps to set my expectations for how long something takes for when I do something similar.
Blonde flooring looks so much better than the vanilla
NEED to go with the vanilla b-c of the many-colored party/late-teen/LED lights.. the blonde will look off when those crazy lights on.
As a tone I like the more traditional oak look of blonde, but with the other color choices and light source color contribution I think vanilla will work out better. Either way I'm sure Paul and Jordan will have it looking great.
Like the way you had the mask on your head when you were sanding there Paul…. lol
Love watching your videos and look forward to them every week!!
By Jordan’s answer to the base not having LED’s it sounds like maybe there’s been some comments about all the lighting but I think the Studpack LED Garondo looks great. You guys had the opportunity to buy a house and build your own from scratch starting with the Garondo and I’m glad you added all these extras and brought us along step by step. You’ve always showed mistakes and ways to remedy which is more realistic and informative. Great channel and glad I found it in the beginning.
I'm voting Vanilla flooring. I think it would pick up the led lighting colors. Either floor is beautiful anyway.
I miss the videos where it was one task being done and it got finished in the whole video 😭 I feel like we need a recap on the unfinished railing on the balcony, a recap on the unfinished cedar colour (stained still or did you go white), recap on the kitchen (can't remember where you got up to or what happened). I feel so lost but I watch every video! 😫
Agreed. Not to mention, a recap on the baseboards. That was the whole point of the video and we never got to see them.
@@Geronimo2Fly they weren't even installed from what I saw!
Vanilla Flooring will keep it timeless. Then let all the furniture, pillows etc accent the colors for pop. Nice build!
GOOD points.
I agree Vanilla is the way to go!
That reglit base is interesting. I'd never want to worry about dusting in that groove but I bet it'll look cool when finished.
Happy birthday, Jordan! Pro-tip: If you fall down today, it'll hurt significantly more than when you were 29. Ask Paul. Great job as usual, gents!
Definitely the more neutral colored wood so it picks up the cool light of the LEDs. Great progress! Sometimes progress is ecclectic😅
3:30 Paul is an old skhool graffiti artist! The man is a master of the spray can!! LOL!
Blond for warm and texture; it will compliment the wood on the exterior, too.
I prefer that as well.
Blonde looks more premium. The vanilla looks bleached out.
agree, except the blonde will look funny when the multi-colored LED lights on..
@@LadyReallyLady they can turn the brightness down and change the color to something more complimentary. But the floor color you see all day so gotta go with one that's 👍
@@davidshumway9639 thx.
First Happy Birthday Jordan. Also first time I seen this style of base. Should look really cool. I vote for the blond flooring. Great job all of you guys.
Anyone ever paint an already ultra white wall to super white? The amount of eye sore trying to figure out if its painted or trying to focus to cut in 😂
Also I love yall, please wear safety glasses while shooting nails, it saved my eyes a couple of times now, maybe I just suck at using them lol
You know your getting close when you're working all over the place and different phases at the same time
Definitely like that Blonde hue a lot more!
Vanilla flooring! Perfect for the modern look you Jordan’s got going 🤙
16:05 SHOTS FIRED
Woke up to a small kitchen fire and this is exactly the distraction I need from the stress 😅
What??! The title was about flush baseboards and yet you didn't show the finished product! That's not honest, guys.
Personally not into the led stuff but that baseboard looks pretty epic. Can’t wait to see the finished result on that.
“Nice dad!” Meaning you’re doing so good, you should do it all!
Paul, protect your knees! Let those limber young studs do that low stuff. My 66 year old knees hurt just by watching you.
Nothing wrong with a little morale boost!🤠
The Tom Sawyer gambit!
Just turned 60 , 7 months ago and I do the same type of remodeling and I always wear knee pads or use a pad and my knees are still shot
Thanks for all you guys, enjoy all your videos
@@plumbbuild6517 Back in my days, wearing knee pads would get you ribbing with comments like, well since you’re on your knees anyway!
I have the same taste as this guy. The windows are exactly what I would do and the flush mount baseboards are just awesome, so much stronger aesthetically than normal trim. Normal trim always looks so cheap like it was just slapped on there. Flush mount is more built in, like an integrated wall system.
The attention to detail always blows my mind.
Flush baseboard looks great
If you set that piece of wood before drywall then you just rest the drywall on top of it and done great job guys
Jordan missed his calling and should have been a salesman. To be able to talk Paul and Rad in to all the work while he films is brilliant.
Lol no doubt. On his own house no less lol😂
Love the video, but would also like to see the finished wall/trim.
Related to this project, I'd offer an alternative and easier technique (but with a small variation) to achieve the 'no trim' look :
1. Cut or hang Sheetrock to leave a 6-7 inch (or similar) gap above unfinished floor.
Simply install a 1/2" 'U-Channel' ('face up' of course) onto the bottom of the Sheetrock.
Apply minimal compound needed and sand to blend the channel into the wall. The U Channel will give the wall a smooth, straight and protected edge.
2. Next, install desired flooring to within 3/8" (or less) up to the wall studs. By installing the flooring BEFORE the baseboard, the baseboard will cover the edge of the flooring such that no quarter round or any other trim is needed at the floor.
3. Lastly, install lumber baseboard (thickness to match Sheetrock) that is smooth and plain, with the height to fit nicely between bottom of U channel and the FINISHED floor. The lumber gets screwed or nailed directly against the wall studs.
The top of baseboard lumber should have only a minimal gap (if any) where it meets the bottom of the U Channel. Lightly fill any such gap with painters caulk.
Use more caulk to minimize or even eliminate any such gap, or less caulk if a small valley (such as 1/8" ) is desired.
Keep in mind, the larger the gap, the more dirt will collect here, so I prefer minimal or no gap.
The baseboard lumber can be painted in the same finish as the wall to achieve a unified, "no trim" clean and modern look.
Tip: Pre-paint the baseboard lumber so as to avoid paint on the finished flooring.
While this technique does not create the 'shadow' effect like the product used in the video, it would create a very clean, seamless (or nearly seamless), transition between wall and baseboard. Better yet, very little, if any, dirt/insects/etc. will collect where the wall meets the baseboard. "No trim" means eliminating the chore of vacuuming your baseboards, and makes the room look a bit larger.
Makes me happy to know Pop's forehead was protected while sanding that drywall.
Looking good guys. I'm more of a minimalist so I probably woundn"t do all the leds but the techniques and methods are very useful and I relly appreciate your efforts to educate all of us on how to do things. Really great to see the woopsies and how to adjust as the project goes forward. I look forward to your posts. Thanks!!!
Happy birthday. If you hurry up you might get that place done before your 35th.
Just finished putting new chair rail and base trim in my home after installing new flooring, Managed to get almost all of it installed without nails - caulk only. Changed out the old 2" 70s trim with new 3 1/2" base trim and man what a difference it makes. Transformed my home's 1970s duck l'orange look to the 21st Century. I used Benjamin Moore's Aura interior paints and wow, what a quality paint job that stuff produces!
Personally not a fan of all the led or rgb lighting but it’s not my place. I just like your guys work!
Vanilla. Waste of time or not, Stud Pack shows us how it's done 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
This house is going to be a great 40th birthday present for the kid.
Lol. For sure. I get it
Lmao! I think this is just a set at this point! 😂 it looks great, but I'll stick to my 6" wide sticks that hide my mistakes😂😂
Jordan reminds me of me! Details, Details, DETAILS!! So many people lack the importance of DETAILS!! Not sure about that shower light though? LOL???
Happy Birthday, Jordan You've accomplished so much in your 30-years. Keep it going.🎂🎂🥳🥳🎈🎈
You can get sharpeners for multi-tool blades, it's a grinding wheel you chuck it in your drill and then hold the blade to it, and it grinds new teeth into the blade. I've never used it but I've heard good things about it
When cutting any vinyl corner beads on a mitre saw, put the blade in backwards. It will cutting through like butter and never chip.
It's looking great. Starting to see what the finished result will be like. For the flooring my preference would be the blond for contrast, rather than being neutral. It would kind of tie in with the cedar decking outside too.
Absolutely! Let’s see those solder skills!
7:00 You can use the mud, the odor goes away when it dries, done it plenty of times in my house and never had an issue with the odor coming back or the mud not sticking or anything. Also use distilled water when mixing and covering the top with water for storage. Works amazing.
I don't understand why the adhesive is required at all. I'd think the staples, and the expected mud, would hold that just fine. Oh, on edit, Blonde, no doubt. Anyone that wants a light floor like the Vanilla doesn't have to clean it. And calling out the Build show was a good laugh.
I dont even use staples, no issues.
It mostly just makes it much faster and easier to put up. Trying to get it level using staples is fairly difficult and takes way more time. With the adhesive a single person can put it up using the level very quickly.
It's plastic trim, not metal. Good luck getting mud to stick to it. The adhesive keeps it from moving on the drywall and helps the mud stick.
Excited to see the final reget install. I'm so over traditional molding.
Paul is an inspiration
0:03 8:19pm 7-22-24 EST...I was looking but couldn't find Stud Pack.
I said a short prayer & manifested this video that came out 19 minutes ago.
LOVE IT!
Yeah I am not a fan of those recessed baseboards most of the time. I think if you do everything in a similar style it works but what happens is it tends to clash with the window and door trims. It also is very annoying to clean as well.
Excellent points and a must to consider before the build starts.
You are a great father. Jordan is lucky to have you
It’s a great new look. Now you may need a special tool to vacuum the dust and stuff that accumulates when Jordan moves in.
Never seen the Reglet base before and it was cool to see a new technique. Personally I prefer a common white kicker board, but I hope Jordan really likes it.
there was no baseboard installed WTF!!!!!
Vanilla looks like it fits very well
Yep I would like to see you solder LED strips together
REM (rapid eye movement) sleep is characterized by body paralysis but the most brain activity of all the sleep cycle stages and occurs right when people are falling asleep and just before they wake (naturally). N3 sleep is the "deepest" stage (and very important to the regulation of the immune system).
JOINT COMPOUND does not stick to plastic. That is why i spray the glue on top of the trim also.
For cutting outside and inside corners, I used a block under the trim on the miter saw. 3M 77 works well also, and after all was said and done, I used no levels to apply it and it came out straight as an arrow. Also tiled the floor before cutting the drywall to 6" so the very last step was securing the baseboard to a completely finished wall/floor...
I started using Big Stretch 20 yrs ago. There is still nothing that beats it today!
Jordan, Calm down with the tacky LED's man.
😂
Vanilla's going to look a lot better with the modern aesthetic. More neutral.
Soffet: I would add some weep holes at the lowest end of the cavity to keep the condensate out and silicone the lowest end to prevent water damage.
Blondes are ALWAYS better than vanilla…I vote BLONDE OAK FLOORS
I cover the leftover mud in the pail with a piece of 3 mil poly .. no odor and 6 months (or more) later a quick mix and ready to rock n roll.
Happy Birthday Jordan!! LEDs are you looking good, great way to celebrate!
Hey Paul .. ya made me look! Andrea Bocelli .. what a voice! OK I live a sheltered live ... thanks for adding this to my life!
Matt Risinger doesn’t have anything on you Paul! Great work and as always great attention to detail!
Next time just set that piece of wood before and just rest drywall on top of it
Think ahead and everything is easy
Great job as always studpack
Respect for the patience and labor to do it, but it’s clearly not worth it. You might as well put LEDs in it while you’re at it. It’s a f you feature and the LEDs will let it be known!
I first saw this detail in 2000. It's been around a while. Looks great in the right house.
In isolation, I like the blonde colour, but against the cabinets, it looks better with the vanilla.
Vanilla! The other one looks like 1990 orange oak in every manufactured house from that era
If it was my floor, I would choose Vanilla over Blonde.
Flush base is a definite yes. I specify reveals in lots of situations…they add a ton of character for a small material cost (though they’re not cheap labor wise), and they make transitions beautiful. Great job!
What??? Where the heck are the finished baseboards? What a waste of time.
Ack! You're mudding over your recently finished, primed, and painted walls. Did ya all forget you wanted to do these special baseboards? Good luck with it all, hate to see redoos.
Edit: my bad, was positive you already did the final coat of paint.
Baseboard too tall. All the LEDs, looks like pimp crib.
Baseboard height traditionally would be considered based on height of wall and importance of room. Personal preference plays a factor.
The ceilings are tall.. so the reglet baseboard is more than fine - and syncs with the modern look of the studio-apt..
but yeah, the overboard amount LEDs look like a pimp crib - or a strip club as another poster said.
Happy 30th birthday Jordan! May you have many more years of building and learning with your dad! The flush baseboard is new to me, and will be interestig to see when all is finished. Currently helping my daughter & Son in Law redo their kitchen and they also bought Ikea cabinets. Ikea directions are the WORST. 😮
