  • Hey guys!
This is a video I've been waiting to make for a while and it's finally here! I actually have to go out for dinner in like 2 minutes so I can't type as long a description as usual but I hope you enjoy the video because it was pretty cathartic to make for me 😂💗
Have a wonderful rest of the week :)

I HATE the written element of drama. I recently sat a year 10 mock exam in the last few weeks and I ran out of time half way through my 20 mark question. Also the 32 mark question hadn't been planned very well because we'd only ever seen a pretty terrible live adaptation of Frozen that was near impossible to talk about. I'm really hoping that the real thing isn't as bad but I'm not looking forward to it, especially considering that this element is worth 60% of your grade

This review is scaring me because I chose drama and I've just started Year 10. I thought it would be interesting and fun and engaging - even the theory and writing part because we've done it before and I enjoy going in-depth into the technical elements of a performance. But this sounds nothing like what I thought. I really thought it would be a "any answer is correct it just needs to be justified well" but this sounds like a nightmare. I hope it isn't this bad for me :/
edit: i did my drama exam months ago, got my results and had an a* if anyone is reading this, don't be discouraged! I was so scared but it ended up being my favourite class. It was really fun (especially divising and creating our group piece) and the lessons on theory were also laid-back, collaborative and interesting. Any answer is correct as long as you can justify it. Just goes to show everyone's experience is different. I think this person's issue was they didn't learn the proper dramatic vocabulary and phrasing and they also just had an awful teacher😭

I’m doing Edexcel GCSE Drama, I’m in Year 11 and I’m ngl I cannot remember what we did in Year 10 😭, I think all we did was go through our text (Blue Stockings). I got a 9 in Year 10 writing mock but a 6 in the Year 11 mock, it’s so difficult and idek how I got a 9 in Year 10looking back. Luckily the exam board has been generous and they told us which scenes from the play are coming up plus we didn’t have to do scripted piece, instead a monologue/duologue which we recently just finished, hands down my favourite part of Drama. Devising Project took a while to create but it was fun ngl cuz people in my group acc wanted good grades, just like the rest of my class. Devising Log was such a pain, took forever to edit, so difficult to answer each question specifically and I didn’t even know how to properly write it (structure wise). Idk when I’m gonna get my result for it but I rlly want a 9 either way. Overall GCSE Drama has so much waffle, it could have been a lot better but covid last year affected it cuz of blended learning. I’m considering it for A Levels but I’m still unsure cuz even though I love Drama, I wanna go into medicine and idk if med schools would be fond of Drama. We’ll see… good video

i remember watching this video in year 9 right before i chose gcse drama 😭 here i am watching it again after I have completed the whole thing. don’t think i did very well despite getting an 8 in mocks. we took over a year (yikes) to complete devising because noone took it seriously so i did all the work. my scripted piece group was horrible, i had to whisper their lines to them from across the stage, it was a complete joke. the paper was alright, but i think i did horrible on the review because it was a bad question and also the 8 marker and 12 marker because we got an uneventful extract 💀 hopefully i haven’t done as badly as i thought
don’t get me wrong, drama can be completely fun but please only take it if you’re willing to put the work in because otherwise, you’ll sacrifice the grades of the others in your group who work hard

@@Laayba hello there! But I just want to give you a few tips from another student who is currently in year 11 studying drama.
Drama is a really fun subject but requires lots of motivation and hard work and there are many different aspects which allow you to create different pieces of drama in a group with your peers as well as a choice to perform a scripted piece from a play of your choice on your own or with others. These practical elements is around 30% of your final grade.
Drama however is very essay based and links well into aspects of English literature. Depending on your exam board, I had to do a minimum 21 page portfolio documenting a devised piece we chose from a range of starting points which essentially included a lot of analysising ( what, how, why).
And then you have your written exam which requires you to answer questions involving social, historical and cultural context, advantages of staging, setting out a scene from you studied text, costume, character development and lots of other things.
      Hope this helps your decision!!

@@aliciaviolet422 hi it was the only A Level I was certain on and now I hate it. Firstly, you’ll probably go from a large group at GCSE (because so many people for fun or just to fill their options) to a really small group at A level (because people either think it’s pointless or do the practical side at college or do a Btec) so you’ll probably be stuck with small amount of people and if you don’t really click with them then devising pieces is really hard. Also, so much of it is writing and because people see it as an easy A-level so much of the writing is so pernickety so it’s really hard to get good marks. In GCSE scripted it’s marked on your performance but in A level You do three scripted pieces all of marked on your writing and only one is marked on the performance so theoretically you don’t have to do two of them. And just put that into perspective I have two friends that both got into very Prestigious drama schools and they both got Cs and DS is at a level. Hope that helps, What I’ve written this seems very negative and remember that’s the AQA course^ but there was times where I had a teacher for a while that I really liked and I really enjoyed it but there’s also other times I had teachers that I don’t really get along with and that’s probably a big factor and why I disliked it. Teachers other students in drama make such big difference because if you feel self-conscious at any point it will affect your experience so much and you’re acting!
