“Near anatomical….fracture at tip of lateral malleolus” . Due to finances, I have only been wrapping securely and carefully walking with a supportive sneaker during working hours. Can you guesstimate what prognosis for healing??

I’m going through this right now. Broke my fibula and ankle about 7 weeks ago, surgery 5 weeks ago. Started physical therapy and in an ankle brace. So far everything he has said is spot on for me. Great video, thanks
Had my surgery Monday. I have multiple autoimmune issues. High risk for blood clots. They gave me nothing to prevent clots. I'm concerned. I take the vitamins. I have Voltaren for arthritis but it causes such heart burn ugh. I wonder if I should take aspirin?
How do you know if you need surgery I went to the ER like a week ago and they just gave me a splint and told me I had a broken ankle but didn’t mention surgery or anything
@rumpio5505 the Emergency reduced fracture and splinted but sent me to an orthopedic the next day. He said I had 3 fractures in fibula and ankle with torn ligaments and it would never heal properly nor be stable without surgery.
You are the VERY BEST on UA-cam! I just broke my ankle and I've been looking up ALL your videos regarding this. You explain everything so well and easy to understand. I now know better ways to care for myself, down to the sneakers I will be getting once healed. I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU!!!
Bimalleolar ankle fracture on 9/28/22, and I'm finally starting to walk with partial weight and crutches after 7 weeks post-op. I'm fortunate to already have had a trusted PT who gave me more info on what to expect at this stage of recovery. My surgeon never mentioned issues with the nerve pain I had within the first week and potentially developing temporary plantar fasciitis as I start walking. This is all a long-winded way of saying I'm really glad I also came across this video (never thought to put an insole in the boot) and I'll be sharing it with her. Thank you!
I had same bimalleolar fracture 7 weeks ago ,May 2023. I am home , litterally bedridden, foot highly elevated, no weight bearing at all. I have 2 plates and 4 clips. In August I was supposed to travel to USA/ I live in Australia / .I knew I can't travel but didn't have idea how long it takes to heal and what to expect. The surgeon who operated my ankle told me openly that its impossible, as the foot won't be ready for it. In August the foot will be slowly adjusting for short walks involving lots of swelling which is part of healing and again require lots of rest. I was told to reconsider trip after 12-14 mnts. Those fractures takes aproximately 12-18 mnths even 2 years to heal . Is slow process. All those 7 weeks I also wasn't allowed to do any physio beside moving toes gently. I have great very thorough physio who wrote letter to surgeon to see how my healing is progressing and see if we can begin with foot rehab and ankle. Im going for review next week and hopefully I will be able to start proper physio. I thought the physio will start straight away but my physio said we can't do much at all until surgeon confirms the ankle is ready for exercise . He was right! I have been going through so much pain some days without moving leg at all. Its true GP couldn't give me any advice.
@@BeeBee-tb2it 12-14 months seems excessive. I would think as long as you're fully weight-bearing that you would travel relatively fine. I traveled by plane in February (~4 months post-op) and wore compression socks to reduce any swelling. Granted, my flight was a *lot* shorter than what yours would be. The only thing I regretted was forgetting my cane at home because it was a lot of walking on my departure dates since I had a layover. I went to a pharmacy near my hotel to get a second one and did just fine. But yeah, other than what your surgeon said regarding travel I had the same restrictions. Honestly my PT and one of my coaches at my gym were way more helpful than the surgeon. My PT told me to start going back to the gym to do upper body until I was out of the boot, and otherwise practice my home exercises while I'm there too. It was more for my mental health than anything and I'm glad she gave me that clearance and that the gym owner was very accommodating. I was discharged from PT last month since she was going on maternity leave but told me to keep doing what I was already doing (strength training and yoga). Now I'm back to my pre-injury activity level as far as frequency per week, but still building that strength and mobility back up. No kidding when they say it takes a long time, but it will get there, as frustrating as it may be.
I had trimalleolar fracture June 28, 2023, and just getting real about expectations. It will be a lot longer than I thought I’d ever getting normal ROM. Doing PT and exercise, this video helped!
@@pamheward8819 Tell me about it. I'm close to a year out now and literally counting the days to get this metal removed. The nerve sensitivity is what gets to me, plus I've developed plantar fasciitis in both of my feet. I do my stretches from PT and I've gone back to my workout routine, but it is really stubborn. I only just got back to doing full squats with a barbell about 2 months ago because I could not control my foot to stay flat. It has been such a struggle and I've even broken into tears in the gym a few times because I get so frustrated.
You have given me so much useful information! My surgeon may be young and gifted, but he can’t light a candle next to you! Thank you so much. Your patients are blessed to have you
I broke my ankle about 4 weeks ago and went to a world renown institution. I did not receive this detailed information, was not asked to FU with my podiatrist, and PT was not recommended. THANK YOU so much for this valuable info!
Hi. I am over in the UK and in week 14 after left ankle fusion. Before and after fusion I have tried to do a bit of research, but there are not many quality videos out there. I just wanted to say that your video presentation is very informative and the best source I have come across.

Up to 1 year for recovery? What a relief. I wish my surgeon told me that. I’m a parkour athlete and had my surgery August 19, 2022. Dorsiflexion is limited/painful even with doing PT everyday. My doctor said I’d be 100% and back to competing after 3 months but there’s NO WAY😂 Thanks for the video, I’ll give myself 6 more months.
If you broke your ankle and had surgery for ligaments repairs most likely 8months to a year or more recovery period but it still defends on severity of injury and your therapy. Don’t rely on GP or doctors too much, physiotherapists and surgeons know more when it comes to recovery. I had ankle surgery 3months ago with multiple ligaments and tendon repairs. I can stand and walk now without crutches and the flexibility of my ankle is improving. I have exercises everyday prescribed by my therapist and a monthly schedule to my gp. I learned a lot from different videos like this. I had my injury Nov 2022.

Watched many of your vids when accident happened. Had at least partial tears on both interior and exterior sides. Only had an xray done. Started installing countertop after 3 days of happenings. In a bootie onlyn fabricated in shop for 12-14hr days. 210lbs, 6'3" soccer doodoo happened. Even my toes were purple for days. Watching these vids are crucial for a proper recovery. I'm about 4months out, can jog over 4miles in 45mins and try to do at least half of it on grass(around a big golf course with 90yrs old grandpa in a tricycle). Thanks for all your work and knowledge!!!
So glad I found this video. I was in a cast and non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. Now I'm in my last week (of 4) of the air boot. The exercises for my ankle have been uncomfortable but I realize I have to focus on the other muscles also to loosen them up. Will be trying to walk with a cane once out of the boot. It's a very long recovery 😳
How you going? Im similar to you. Im in 7th week after fracture, still not doing physio. I was told physio start after ankle heals ,at the moment i have boot on24/7 and moving only toes which are bit painful
@@BeeBee-tb2itmy accident was in April, so not much before yours. At this stage I also wasn't doing physio, and moving my toes hurt. I didn't wear the boot 24/7 though, only for getting about. It feels good to take the boot off, and sit your foot elevated on a pillow after being encased for so long. You need to be careful when you first sleep without it, but that first time feels fantastic.
I only wish ik had this knowledge when I hurt my ankle it was badly damaged and I received little to no information on what to expect 😕 thanks for your video I hope it helps alot of people
Thanks for the advice I found it very useful. I had my op.(6 screws, 2 plates) and half way through being in cast. I can't wait to get back my mobility and start my rehab. As I miss walking/hiking. Regards from Hungary

Thanks so much for the info you presented! I am recovering from a trimalleolar fracture and surgical correction with plates, screws, bolts, etc. You offered a great deal of reassurance that I'm doing much of my recovery right! I am worried I didn't wear my boot enough however considering I have literally been sitting on my butt for 6 weeks, I don't know if if matters. Headed to first PT tomorrow and I'll definitely be watching your other videos!
Big thanks for all this free & valuable help Dr. Tom! I did not like the fit of the air cast at all. Elevated, heavy, cuts into the leg. Going to get my podiatrist on board with the orthopedist & PT. Hey folks, my prayers for all of you recovering. Love your injured foot! Wash, massage, wiggle your toes.

love all your videos on fractured ankle recovery and i am trying to follow your suggestions from the exercises to the shoe type and compression socks. i am from the Philippines and you have been a big help to me .. Hi! I had an accident and broke my ankle too and was operated last Nov6. Just curious how’s your recovery atm as we’re on the same page as far as date of op. Thanks
Here with a fractured left ankle, sprained right ankle, sprained left elbow. Crutches were painful due to having to put weight on my other injuries; luckily my roommate has a knee scooter. Just fell off the thing (the seat rotated due to a missing bolt that I just reordered today, and I fell sideways onto my fractured left ankle which is in a cast) it led to severe pain/swelling/numbness.. I'm currently elevating it and took half of a pain pill (which I haven't taken in days). I'm praying I did not re-injure it or delay my healing... I have another appt in 6 days so I hope all will be well and I'm progressing in a good direction. Having a hard time being cooped up inside, but trying to do sedentary crafts & reading and staying grateful. Will be following recovery tips to do all that's in my power. Thank you for the video!!

In 4 weeks he'll release me to go back to no restrictions at work and i cant even stand for more than 30 minutes at a time
So very helpful. Thank you, doc. I will pay close attention to your recommendations in order to get back to walking my dogs (who unfortunately knocked me down & broke my ankle) and playing tennis. Keep up the great work.

His video is great thank you. I'm 16 weeks post op from talus surgery with 2 screws. My pt went well but seems to be better from home thanks to this video. I've been back to work part time in a boot. I do physical labor. My ankle seems like it's getting better however my foot when walking has alot of pain. Almost like my ft is broken. Is this normal healing after this long post op?
Good tips. I am in a cast for a month (10 more days to go!), then will transition to the CAM boot. Physical therapy will start two weeks after that. I bought an elevated toilet seat, a knee scooter, and an iWalk crutch. I use the knee scooter to get around the house and while out shopping once a week. I use the iWalk crutch in conjunction with my regular crutches to be able to get up and down our outdoor deck stairs. The iWalk gives me a base for my injured leg so my casted leg isn’t swinging in the wind. I suck at just using regular crutches. Also bought a cover for my toes on my casted leg and a cushioned pad for the knee scooter. Paying attention to nutrition- have been taking the vit D, B1, B6, B12, and a multi with iron. Drinking a protein drink with 30 gm of protein. Doing non-weight bearing exercises every day (in bed leg raises front, inner, rear, and outer) and chair cardio a couple of times a week. Out of work on FMLA and waiting on short term disability. Thanks for all the info. Tells me I’m on the right track.

Generally we see best results with a Laceup ankle brace combined with a good supportive shoe. A boot can help but it is generally very bulky and can cause back, knee and hip issues. Always check with your doctor!

Went to the ER with torn ligaments in my ankle. They gave me crutches. Within 2 days one of the crutches slipped out and I broke my arm and my heel. 😱 I should have searched for this video on day one. Great info!!!!
This is the best video and very informative and helpful. I was riding mountain bike, my left foot landed on an quite uneven ground surface when I tried to come off the bike with almost no speed. I was diagnosed with minimally displaced fractures of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal bases. Luckily I don’t have lots pain although I had severe pain right away on the scene. But I do have lots of swelling and blue bruises a couple days after the injury. I have been using the boot you mentioned. For precaution, my doctor has ordered mri to rule out of lisfranc ligament injuries (I did have quite bit of bruises in the middle of sole maybe that is why I needed a mri?) Have you had an experience where you may treat lisfranc ligament injuries without surgeries?

I'm recovering from a broken ankle, cast has been off for one week now, 7 weeks after injury. Thanks for the video, very informing. About the crutches, I strongly disagree. I used forearm crutches from the hospital, first few days was hell and my hands and shoulders ached. But after struggling around (no weight bearing on the ankle) for 2-3 weeks, I began to enjoy moving around easily on the crutches and found it a great cardio workout to go for a 1km walk each day. I'm living in an attick, so had to use the stairs at least 5 times per day, at the start it was a mission, but I got good at managing them. I summary, I highly advise anyone to use crutches (not underarm but forearm) bear through the pain of the first week and trust me you will enjoy them more and more. So much more convenient than wheel chairs or knee wheelers imo.
Thank you for your video, it was quite helpful. I fell in on a pothole 8 weeks ago. Each foot was fractured but in different places. One is healing, and the other is the 5th metatarsal that has not healed. My goal is not to have surgery. I had no idea of the different items to help in my recovery other than the boots prescribed. ☺

lol when I went to investigate if a knee scooter would work for me all I got was lots of pain on my shin. Turned out I have a broken fibula (about 15cm up from the ankle) as well and none of my doctors decided to tell me or show me my X-rays :') Ended up gaining more strength for crutches and interchangeable with a wheelchair for longer travel.
So helpfull, thanks! Currently started running after 3 months of initial recovery and still experience some pain. Was very worried about this however now i know that i have some more months to go. Will definitively continue the massage and agree with you: Hoka shoes are the best!

I'm coming up on week 7 after fibula repair surgery. I live in a remote town in lower Baja, Mexico. These are great tips, however, I don't have many of these options at the ready and boy, lots of $.

Hi.. i am from Nigeria. Thank you for the video.. am super glad to see this video hoping it will be helpful to me in time to come.. please i had an ankle injury on my right leg one month ago and the big bone (Tibia) came out of my flesh causing a big wound, while the small bone (fibula) got broken. But after the surgery the (fibula) have been fixed with some irons to keep it strong while it heals which was stitched with no visible wound but the (Tibia) was fixed back to it usual position and was stitched a little which closed only 10 percent of the wound leaving 90 percent of it opened. Because the doctor said is not good to stitch it all closed because the flesh that the bone popped out from was already dead before the surgery so he cut them off meaning i have to wait for the flesh to grow again.. please my QUESTION IS: can i do these exercise while the wound is still open and not yet totally healed or should i wait till the flesh wound is totally healed before i start this exercise? Please a Quick reply will be so HELPFUL 🙏. i am in need of the help. Thank you.
I broke my ankle in July, then 6 wks later tore my achilles tendon (same foot). I am going to a physio but only once a week. Trying to put weight on my foot but the pain is excruciating. I am still using a moon boot and using crutches. I am trying to find out if other people find it so flipin' painful or if there's something really wrong.😢

7:12 That's me, woman on crutches at bottom of stairs looking up and then head slumps! LOL, crutches are not for sissies for sure. Heal up everyone. This is tough going but we will prevail!
Great info doc. Thank you so much. I have an ankle fracture (lateral malleolus). I said no to cast. My doc put me on ankle brace and asks me to wear boot on top of braces during day time. Its been a month & fracture didn't heal yet. When I wear boot on top of brace, its hurting & feels like that's probably causing delay in my healing. But when I am just wearing brace, no pain when I am just resting. I am not walking & using knee rover. Any suggestions doc?
I’ve mainly been in bed since spraining both of my ankles at the same time last Thursday. The doctor put me in a boot. She said I need an MRI in two weeks. She mentioned possible surgery with little context. Am I supposed to sleep in the boot ? I haven’t been. Thank you.
Thanks for the great response MrStubbs! Generally the boot is for walking, but there s always a risk of damage from bedsheets or position. It is difficult to know without the diagnosis or evaluation, thus it might be more beneficial to be safe rather than place oneself in danger. Thanks! If possible, we would appreciate a quick & easy rating from you, and a good rating makes a BIG difference for us! g.page/r/CaxJ9b-O6o27EAg/review Thanks again for watching!
Would you suggest an ankle brace after your cast has been removed? My foot is still half way swollen after a total of 8 weeks. I have pretty good movement .
I fractured my ankle a few months ago. I was using the boot, but I stopped using it. I felt better for a few days but now I have pain in my metatarsals, and it turns red every now and then
I broke both bones in my right leg, Tibula and Fibula. I have an External Fixator (pins) in it. Its been 8months and now i am feeling more pain than previously. Why is this so?
Do you take out the insole of a shoe and then add the orthodic? And if I have orthotics made for me many years ago, are they still good or do I need new ones?
To visit my orthopedic surgeon was nearly $1,500 per visit. That was only to have him tell me that the x-rays look good, and to come back in 4 weeks for more x-rays. He never actually looked at my leg. I had a lateral malleolus fracture. Not having insurance, I had to stop going in, and cancelled my last appt. He didn't tell me that breaking an ankle you usually sprain ligaments, too, but I've basically had to learn anatomy myself and now I believe I probably did some good damage to 1 or 2 tendons, plus of course some ligaments. Apparently you can't see ligaments on x-rays, so why isn't it just normal procedure to do am MRI in the first place? I've read several studies which concluded that MRIs should be standard with ankle/lower bone breaks. I had an area on my foot which kept releasing blood, but when addressing this, that's when the Doc said it's just because of the sprain. He didn't clue me into what a sprain was, but I educated myself. Anyway, I'm grateful for UA-cam. I can't afford any of those shoes or anything, but I see the value in them. I'm having continued pain on the top center of my foot. That has hurt all along. It looks like tendons and ligaments are there, and I'm hoping there isn't an issue that can only be resolved with surgery, because that's not going to happen. I consume protein shakes with collagen powder every day, and just started the carnivore diet. Have long been doing The Root Cause Protocol, which is basically about getting nutrients balanced, especially so the body can heal itself. I'm also getting in the sun as much as possible. No longer taking D, because of a not-great liver. Ty for your videos.
Can be really frustrating when Dr doesn't have time you. Strangers on the street have given me more information than my Dr's. Do you swim? I'm finding the pool very helpful last 2 weeks
@@bradwilliams3278 I don't have anywhere to swim, but good idea. I got a good ankle brace myself, and have been doing exercises and now I'm finally walking with out crutches. Still taking it easy, though.
Hope you’re feeling better. I was told I had a bad sprain and went for physical therapy for a month standing on that foot alone. Asked Dr. a couple of times for MRI. Finally he approved it and it’s fractured. Now i wonder if that caused more damage 😢 it’s been 8 weeks since the injury
I’ve broken my fibila (weberB) and complete tear of all my ankle ligaments 2 1/2 months ago. Now I’m currently on moon boot and at 75% weight bearing with single crutch help when walking. Your videos are extremely helpful to my recovery from operation to cast to moon boot. Godbless you!
@@erikaballou8068 I had surgery again for the removal of the diastasis screw last 25th of Jan. A week ago my physio started weaning me from one crutch and now I’m already walking without any help. Daily exercises with stretch band help my ligaments gain strength again and every after exercise (including standing if advised by physio) I do the RICE. I have vitamins for joints (MSM , Dimethyl sulfone). If you’re still in post surgery slab or cast, do some light leg exercise it will keep the nerves going but don’t overwork your injured leg. Always keep it elevated whenever you’re not doing anything.
@@erikaballou8068 Get as much help from your GP or accident insurance if you have. You need someone to help you with your everyday needs. Have a waterproof cast protector whenever you’re going to shower. If you can also access a shower stool with back rest this is very helpful.
Fractured my ankle 4 weeks ago and now my doc wants to do orif surgery and I’m kinda lost to do it or not, because my ankle is getting better and he just gave me this advice weather recently to do operation or non operation
Hi please help dr. Had my operation 3 weeks ago. Fractured rite ankle . Small plate n 3 pins put. Dr removed hard plaster n gave me moon boots. Ankle is extremely painful. Side of moon boot touches directly on wound. Wat other moon boot u suggest t ease da pain. Tx

After seeing these videos I was searching for a podiatrist in my neighborhood for the residual problems that my fractured foot still has. It turns out that where I am podiatrists are limited to only soft tissue surgery. That sucks! I was hoping a podiatrist can order me a CT scan and do something about my Lisfranc joint issue.
Want to stop swelling instantly i looked up lymphatic drainage and it works so much better than anything the drs told me..broke my fibula at the ankle oct 5th had surgery oct 13th they put in a plate and 7 screws didnt set my cast right was not 90° and was pointed inward and was told on my post op appt (2 wks and 4 days after surgery) to start walking..ummmm no thanks!!! I waited til the 6 wk mark and the best solution to heal fast was to ice behind my knee it ices the veins and nerves 1st before it hits your ankle/foot and was more effective!!! ALSOOOO massage behind your knee while your leg is lifted in the air it will instantly drain your lower leg ankle and foot it was awesome to get blood flowing better!!! Which is the best way to heal a bone is blood flow so the bones gets nutrients!!!! I promise it'll speed up your recovery and make PT easier if you need it later and I will add I did all this with no pain meds at all and had very minimal pain bc it healed so fast!!!

I was walking down the stairs & I tripped missed a few steps I have a distal fibula fracture on my left leg. I have to get a ct scan done for the orthopedic doctor to determine if I need surgery. It’s agonizing to not know wether I need it or not I’m so scared of surgery.😭 I love being outdoors it’s so hard for me to stay inside I wanna get back out there already
I , too, have a distal fibula fracture and also love being in the outdoors. Hang in there! I try to focus on the things I am grateful for. I can’t change what happened; I can change my outlook as I recover.
Same as me I injured my ankle terribly I didn’t go to hospital and have tried to heal it myself just over one month now being in doors missing my walks in nature with my dog I’m getting increasingly depressed
How are you doing with Jones fracture? I'm on week 12. I also sprained my ankle and a chipped bone in ankle. Still hurts a lot, mostly first thing in the morning.
I've broken my right ankle twice in 2 years. Second time required surgery. I've used two different scooters & this time around I used a SwivelMate & it is head & shoulders above the other one because of how tight a turn it can make. It folds up. It's hugely expensive to buy but I rented one for about what I would have paid for a cheap one & have been really happy with it. I don't really want a scooter after this is all over so happy to ship it back. Shipping was free both ways. You just pay by the week & then you pay 12 bucks for a UPS pickup. What a deal. I'd do it again exactly the same way. It's the Mercedes Benz of scooters. If you have a boot with an air pump, unfortunately because it's in the front it will press into the pad of the scooter which is not great. I didn't realize that when I got my boot. I would have asked for a different one. Too bad they didn't put it on the side.
3weeks after breaking my ankle and arm and 2 weeks after surgery my breaks haven’t even begun to heal because of soft bones . My ankle is numb but has sharp shooting pain on the sides . My ankle has several plates and screws . My doctor said not to bear any weight for another month maybe longer . I’m currently in a boot. Would compression stocking help with the pain ? All staples are out . I’m 62 years old
Am I ok doing calf stretches 2 weeks after injury. I suffer plantar Fasciitis as well and not doing them is flaring it up as well. If anyone can help?? Thanks. X
COULD YOU ANSWER MY QUESTION PLEASE WILL CLICKING OF ANKLE AFTER SURGERY .. STOP? AND JOW LONG IT TAKES TO STOP ITS 7 MONTHS PLUS SINCE I HAD ANKLE SURGERY.. For BROKEN FIBULA & MEDIAL TIBIA .. 8 screws WITH PLATE inserted.. THANKS FOR YOUR PENDING ANSWER😅
Usuallly the clicing is due to the subtalar joint moving because the muscle and ligaments are still stiff (think hamstring, glutes, lower back and behind the knees, putting more pressure on foot & ankle to bend more.
Stood on a sofa hanging up a painting. Fell, extremely painful. Called ambulance at 4 am. The doctor said that I deserved morphine. Must have been IV - don't remember swallowing any pills. After that, I had zero pain. At one point they decreased my morphine. I suggested coming off the Tyenol- said I probably would not be able to move. I was in bed 7 days. Not allowed out of bed. 8th day was the surgery. I told the doctor that I spent most of the time sleeping. He explained that it was a major injury. So I got discharged because I had homecare. If homecare had not been available, I would have been in hospital a lot longer, or transferred to Rehab. They gave me excellent pain control - for which I am so grateful. No pain at all after the first morphine dose. I broke my tibia and fibula - both sides
I have a compound fracture. I was in a motorcycle accident a month ago. I had 2 surgeries. I’m in a boot now and I can’t put weight on my left leg. Is it okay that I take off my boot when I’m resting to relieve pain?
sir its my first week and there is swell and a little little pan but i can walk while walking i don't feel pain and i can move my ankle up and down so in my country we can't get advice or better medical about this and got tackle from football the swell for the first 2 days and now is little bit down swelling sir what do you recommend if i sat on chair then put the leg on the floor i feel pain also if stand it minutes but walking is normal
Steel plates on. Both sides of my ankle. Will I ever be able to d o 200 lb calf raised again .Ca i do leg extensions and hamstring curls on the machines at gym ?( week 4). Also boot aggravates nerves-in arch, heel, and side.,okay to remove when laying in bed which is more of the time?

I’m going through this right now. Broke my fibula and ankle about 7 weeks ago, surgery 5 weeks ago. Started physical therapy and in an ankle brace. So far everything he has said is spot on for me. Great video, thanks
me too!
When did they tell you tht you could put pressure on your foot?
Thank you!
E
Your patients are blessed to have you
absolutely the best video I have watched for my broken ankle! So much useful information!
Just beginning this journey. Thank you so much for all the information. Super helpful.
I broke my ankle about 4 weeks ago and went to a world renown institution. I did not receive this detailed information, was not asked to FU with my podiatrist, and PT was not recommended. THANK YOU so
much for this valuable info!
What did you break, what bone in the ankle?

No at all likely in that period of time. Think Healed in a year
What about .. 2 broken bones fibula & tibia.. 8 screws and one plate .. how long

Broken right leg fibula.. & ankle fracture.. had surgery yesterday.. ohh the pain !! Nerve block wore off 😮💨😮💨.. thx doc for the share
I'm 3 weeks out from surgery. Broke all the bones in My ankle, My heel, and spiral fracture up the tibia and fibula. How is Your feeling going?
You don’t know how much this helps me. Thank you so much.
How u going now?
How you going? Im similar to you. Im in 7th week after fracture, still not doing physio. I was told physio start after ankle heals ,at the moment i have boot on24/7 and moving only toes which are bit painful
@@BeeBee-tb2itmy accident was in April, so not much before yours. At this stage I also wasn't doing physio, and moving my toes hurt. I didn't wear the boot 24/7 though, only for getting about. It feels good to take the boot off, and sit your foot elevated on a pillow after being encased for so long. You need to be careful when you first sleep without it, but that first time feels fantastic.
amazing video, so helpful. all needed information in one video. thank you for doing this
I only wish ik had this knowledge when I hurt my ankle it was badly damaged and I received little to no information on what to expect 😕 thanks for your video I hope it helps alot of people
Thanks for the advice I found it very useful. I had my op.(6 screws, 2 plates) and half way through being in cast. I can't wait to get back my mobility and start my rehab. As I miss walking/hiking.

Thank you so much.
Just now trimalleolar fracture & shatter. Screws, plates, chain, fish hook actually holding my ankle bone in place. Ouch!

Thank you. Very informative.

I fell too, injured foot more and arm.

Nice
Thank you for your video, it was quite helpful. I fell in on a pothole 8 weeks ago. Each foot was fractured but in different places. One is healing, and the other is the 5th metatarsal that has not healed. My goal is not to have surgery. I had no idea of the different items to help in my recovery other than the boots prescribed. ☺

What is the brace name so I can order it on Amazon
Hi.. i am from Nigeria. Thank you.

Thanks!

Do I need to raise my other shoe when in a walking boot?
Would you suggest an ankle brace after your cast has been removed? My foot is still half way swollen after a total of 8 weeks. I have pretty good movement .
Absolutely, I would do an ankle brace for everyone of my patients for around 6 weeks if they need it. I like mcdavid or zenith 3 level ankle braces
Thanks so much.
@@bradwilliams3278
I don't have anywhere to swim, but good idea.
@6:35 those knee scooters are great IF you don't have bad knees.
One more thing is there anything you can do with pain in the front of your ankle where it bends. Just asking
I have that pain too after my ankle injury especially if I walk too much my son who injured his ankle said it’s normal and will eventually go away
I have it too
I’ve broken my fibila (weberB) and complete tear of all my ankle ligaments 2 1/2 months ago. Now I’m currently on moon boot and at 75% weight bearing with single crutch help when walking. Your videos are extremely helpful to my recovery from operation to cast to moon boot. Godbless you!
Same surgeryvI had 5 days ago... How is your recovery now? Any recommendations?
I SPRAIND MY ANKLE TODAY ON MY WAY TO FAST FOOD TRIPPED OVER THE SIDEWALK WEARING TIGHT SANDALS, THIS MADE IT VERY PAINFUL DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS
Where do I find the show notes so I can easily see your recommended products?
Thoughts on at-home TENS unit use for broken ankle 12weeks post op?? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Generally TENS unit is just for pain. I'm not really aware of any other benefit that has been proven.
Fractured my ankle 4 weeks ago and now my doc wants to do orif surgery and I’m kinda lost to do it or not, because my ankle is getting better and he just gave me this advice weather recently to do operation or non operation
What did you decide?
@@cricketycrickets3141 non op, doc went on vacay
@@jujutec lol that's an important factor in your decision making process

How about a Bunny On the toe. How long do you recover from the Bunny surger.
I have a left ankle injury and my doctor did a xray and mri and it’s been a year since my injury
Wow, we appreciate the kind words and your watching.

We wish you the best and hope you can heal FAST!
Hi, can you make some videos on recovery from Jone’s fracture?
How are you doing with Jones fracture? I'm on week 12. I also sprained my ankle and a chipped bone in ankle. Still hurts a lot, mostly first thing in the morning.
Hello doctor, I have a bone marrow edema in my ankle 3 months ago.
ua-cam.com/video/M-ibqxyqEtM/v-deo.html This might help!
Thanks. X
COULD YOU ANSWER MY QUESTION PLEASE
WILL CLICKING OF ANKLE AFTER SURGERY .. STOP? AND JOW LONG IT TAKES TO STOP
ITS 7 MONTHS PLUS SINCE I HAD ANKLE SURGERY..
@@DrTomBiernacki thank you. How do I prevent it.
Strengthening of the glutes and hamstring.. and lower back muscles ? 🤔
I THINK IT IS THE PERONEAL NRVE SLIPPING OVER THE BONE.. Yes??

Hi doctor, i had a fracture in my ankle can i go to the gym after 8 weeks ?
Wish I lived in Michigan, Dr. Are steroid shots advisable. I have been given a lace boot. Buying the amazon walkimg boot.
